I'm sorry but how difficult is it to put 'ends on cliffhanger' This is becoming a pet hate of mine and I can honestly say that I would not have read this book if I'd know it was just going to end.
But despite the abrupt ending this book wasn't really working for me, to be honest I liked the idea and some of the characters had potential but it seem rushed, almost jumpy at times. If more time had spent and more words written then I believe this could have been a good, interesting read but as it is it's more like rough draft than a finished book, but even though I'm annoyed about how it ended I can admit this book has potential it just hasn't reached it yet.
What do I think, Goodreads? I think I'm glad its over.
(Excuse the language, folks. I'm a bit pissed off here.)
The Eternals has an amazing concept and the two stars I've given the story are for the concept and the concept only. The writing however is a real disappointment. The number of holes the plot line of this story has is not even funny.
A little background on the Eternals: They're vampires, desperate to increase their numbers and after some research, they've come up with a serum to turn humans into Vampires. They send their sons and daughters to the home of humans, play on human insecurities, show them a creeptastic video that would beat the shit out of Cartoon porn anyday (Coz that shit is seriously messed up) and turn humans into Eternals. You with me? Okay.
Main Characters: Rani (who is a despo), Tyler (who has all of ten sentences in the book), Phil (who is just a sad character with so much of unused potential), Kelly (whom the stilted prologue is about)
Tyler is apparently Rani's best friend. He is also in love with her but his love is unrequited. That's okay. But when his parents do something that he can't possibly forgive, he reveals to Rani that he has killed them and disappears. Said best friend thinks about him for the next two days or so and then poof. Introduce new best friend: Kelly. Um, where did she come from? (The prologue, maybe?) I thought Tyler was the best friend. Okay, I'm willing to move on.
Kelly and Rani decide to go snooping around Tyler's house. Did I mention that the two are really not serious/concerned about their absconding friend. Not really. Breezy mentions of his disappearance but nothing concrete. Um, why? A normal person would take this seriously. Anyway.
So they go there and find a lock of Tyler's mother's hair and a tooth inside some "dirt." It's ash. Really, wouldn't you recognize ash for ash? Yet the two girls called it "dirt." I still hadn't lost hope.
Enter: Phil. Phil is, in one word - Confused. Poor bastard doesn't know if he hates his father or not, hates himself or not. Good for him because I'm not sure I hate him or not either.
Then follows a series of events (which I'm not going to bother to repeat for your sanity and mine) and suddenly Rani loses her V card with Phil in two weeks of dating. TWO FRICKIN' WEEKS! (horny, much?)And after sex, they realize they're in love.
Falling in love due to post-coital bliss. In two weeks. With a virtual stranger. While your supposed best friend is on the run. Yay Rani! You go girl.
Tyler is still AWOL at the end of the book and Rani herself has been turned into an Eternal by coffee and McNugget loving , loving boyfriend Phil himself.
Hard luck, Rani. Maybe you should find yourself a sparkle-dick, eh? You're the same species, after all.
Kinda lame. It's like a book that was cut up and I was only given a portion to read. I felt it ended before it really go going and left me hanging with no answers or real explanations. The story in and of itself was lacking and unfortunately if I want to know how all ended up I have to find the sequel. Pondering on that...can't decide if I want to know bad enough or not. I'm afraid it'll be a huge waste of time instead of a sastifaction.
The ETERNALS are taking over the town and not necessarily for power (although maybe) but to live in the open. They are NOT Vampires, however they are undead and do need blood for nourishment...hmmm. So they can live in daylight and they don't have super strong powers basically normal other than undead and blood. Yeah. So one person escapes thus far and the one we think might escape is about to be changed...that's where the book leaves off. Read at your own risk. It's not absolutely horrible, but it's barely ok.
I liked where this novel is headed, the mistakes are hard to forgive though. Just wished there was more to the novel than what there was. The plot and love interest is weak but hopefully it will be made better in further novels. I wish there was not a cliff hanger, or an Epilogue because that made no sense to what was going on in the novel itself. I thought the novel was about the main love interest characters but it turns out that it is Kelly who is a side character it seems.... The epilogue would of been better if it was Rani. Novel needs a complete over haul.
The story was a little slow at the beginning. Once it picked up I wanted to see what was going to happen next. Love the relationship between Rani and Phil through out the book. Wish it did not end where it did.
I was looking for something fun, light, different and maybe a bit sexy. Well, I wasn't at all disappointed (and the price of free doesn't hurt). While not as deep as Anne Rice's work, The Eternals beats Twilight by a mile. it was a quick easy read that held my attention the whole time. The characters were engaging and likable and I enjoyed the shifting perspectives. My only complaint is that the book sacrifices character development in order to keep it short. I know it is common with Kindle books, but not only did the story end too soon, unless I buy the next installment I won't know if the characters are developed more fully.
This was a freebie download. It was ok but it didn't pull me in enough to make me ignore the cliff hanger ending in this and go buy the next book. I wasn't sure if this was a new take on vampires or not, but the main male says they are nothing like vampires, with the exception being they have fangs & drink blood, and that vampires are not real. Whatever. On to the next unread book on my kindle.
***Side/personal note: I don't like the cover. Dude looks like he shaved his chest hair off then skipped shaving for a day or two before the picture. Maintenance people! If you're gonna shave it off, freshen up before the pic. Couldn't photoshop have fixed that?***
This is a fun piece but not regular adult novel length. It reads like a solid beginning to an act I of a book. Good concept and trying to do some interesting things. The ending feels more like a first turning point as opposed to a climax. The price is right at free and a good choice for the author to introduce her style. It's a quick read which I enjoyed, but it lacks some polish found in other authors. I'm not sure why it had mature warnings on it. Pretty tame romantic scenes.
Not great (these YA I think just may not be my speed), but not horrible; the idea is new and has potential, but I think more differences need to be played up because the Eternals still just come off as a variation on vampires. A little more character development would help, perhaps more backstory, but that might be forthcoming if there are more books. And I'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but something about him being "graduated from college" and she's still in high school bothered me.
I like the plot of the book, it's very intriguing and keep my interest to the end, the only think I didn't like was how fast and easy the relationship between th main characters developed towards the story, I felt it was so unrealistic and full of cliches. Still, I'm curious about what will happen next, since the book is to short I didn't feel like reading a book at all but just the beginning of a story
I can say first off that I enjoyed this story so much that after I read it and learned of the SECRET (This book is a SERIES.... ooops I let out the SECRET). I was sad to learn that it was not a free book on amazon too. Although I can say I can NOT wait to read the second book. I want to know what happens between Kyle and her.
Not your average vampire story. The Eternals desperately wanted to increase their population and after numerous science projects, found the perfect drug, which they then injected into humans to change them to vampires. Rani who hates Eternals fell in love with Tyler an Eternal, without knowing that he is one. When she eventually found out, her world was shattered.
This concept was underdeveloped. The characters had some potential to interest me but everything just zoomed along too quickly for me to buy the premise. People think others have been murdered then they eat tuna fish and crush on boys...parents become eternals knowing their children might die Bc of choice. This read more like a pitch for an idea than as a novel.
l gave this book a five star because once I started to read I couldn't put it down. it really nailed down human nature's desire to be immortal.I didn't like the fact that each family member didn't have a choice..it was all the family or none, but maybe in the following books it will seem to make more s sense.
Quick read and actually pretty good as a YA book. The jumping around between character POVs was a bit annoying at first but the thought pattern/voice of each character became distinct after a few chapters.
I liked this book, it was a quick read, but kept me intrigued. The author introduces us to high school characters who are best friends, struggling with everyday life, when each of their parents are given the option to make choices that will change their lives forever.....by becoming "Eternals".
I think I lasted about 20 pages of this book before i just couldn't even go any further.
The eternal's implies to me that it is about angels, or gods etc.. Mythical things, not really strange vampires. The storyline just bored me. I may if I fancy it give it another go... But I doubt it.
It was okay. All of the flashbacks of the characters did throughout the story we're kind of frustrating. I felt like they took away more than added to the story. Some sex stuff, to skip over, scattered throughout, and a little language.
This pissed me off. Full of flash-backs, poorly written too. Characters that fail to act / speak / think appropriate to their age. Horrific world building. Weak plot and no research. Zero descriptions. As a general idea, one of a very few books I'll never finish.
I read this novel some time ago and had to go back to review (before I could write my review) because I just couldn't remember the characters or the storyline. I guess you can tell this YA failed to ignite with me.
