Alexia Lindale #2

Life Everlasting

Rate this book
Darkness loomed, but the music—and the flickering light—persisted. Then grew stronger.

The music stopped, the room emptied, and Baxter Richardson opened his eyes for the first time in months. He should have died from his involuntary plunge off a cliff. But he’s alive, and mortal danger remains. Familiar enemies stalk him. New ones hover close at hand.

Meanwhile, haunted by accusing apparitions and the tightening dragnet of criminal investigation, Baxter’s wife, Rena, is losing her patience. And quite possibly her mind.

Caught in the middle of it all is Alexia Lindale, a lawyer forced to find her way through deceptive alliances, uncertain romances, and courtroom intrigue. It’s a struggle of life and death…and life everlasting.

I'm not the target audience for this book. It is schmaltzy in the music-healing parts and not very realistic in the death-drama parts. Everything is just so very convenient, which is a common experience in inspirational fiction. Why write a solid plot line if God's divine plan overrides normal human interaction? God can be a very convenient presence for a writer.

It is the continuation of the story started in Life Support by the same author. I skimmed through it to find out how everything ended up.

The first book was better but this one picks up right where the other one finishes so you kind of have to read both.
I really liked the presence of music and piano in both these books. It was so near to hear people talking about all this classical music.
The problem with this book is that it started talking way more miraculously/charismaticly.
It was really interesting to read this book while I’m counseling through biblical counseling certification. It gives you a much different perspective of the attitudes and issues.
Also, the proposal at the end was super sweet 😉

I struggle with rating books at times. This one is a bit difficult for me. A strong 4 star ⭐️ but really close to a 4.5. I thought this was a good conclusion to this story. Book one left off with a cliffhanger and this wrapped everything up nicely. I’m happy to have read this and I do enjoy the faith centered message that was written.

'Life Support' should be read first in order to get the full effect of 'Life Everlasting'. 'Life Support' is a picture of the natural man who lives without God. 'Life Everlasting' is a picture of the spiritual man who has trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation. I really enjoyed reading volume 2 better than volume 1.

Life Everlasting continues the story from Life Support (Santee #1). Once again it is filled with suspense, twists and turns, lies, romance, and Christian faith. Alexia is still defending Rena Richardson as her lawyer ; but with every day, things get more complicated and more twisted. Now Alexia is finding herself in court and needing her own representation. Ted, the assistant pastor and pianist at her church, now becomes the strength she relies upon in the mess that continues to pile up around her.

I found this book much slower paced than the first and felt that some of the material was just added in to make the book longer. It felt like it would never end; and then when it did, it seemed like a very abrupt ending. I thoroughly enjoyed the section where Ted and Nurse Sarah played music and sang in order to encourage brain response in Baxter. I am sure Whitlow did some research on this, and it was amazing that this could be used to stimulate a comatose person's brain.

Enjoyed this book, but not as much as the first.

I enjoyed listening to Rob Lamont's narration. I especially liked how he voiced Rena's dialog. The character view points changed often. I had to repeat the first 8 tracks on cd 1 to understand what was going on. Other than that, I kept up with the story.

I listened to this without reading book 1 and was able to keep up without feeling lost.

Sean Pruitt was my favorite character. He had a way of getting to the heart of the issue.

Rena was a mess. I also liked her, mainly because she was the only round character. At times the author seemed to hint at demonic issues with her - voice changes and sudden unusual strength. I don't think that was necessary. It was a bit confusing on what the author was trying to say.

Alex was very naive at times, especially when it came to Rena.

The music portion was more focused on Ted and his abilities than it was on worshiping God. It was all about what Ted was trying to achieve. Some parts of the music ministry I did not care for.

The book was slow in the middle. I was satisfied with the ending.

Not a fan of the way it ended. The story with Baxter seemed like it jumped and we missed seeing a portion of his story. I was left with so many questions, what happened, when did they realize it and were there any consequences also what happened with Baxter's father and brother. I did enjoy the last scene between Ted and Alex though. Overall I found this story to be slower paced than the first book and there seemed to be scenes inserted that didn't really add to the story. I was intrigued with the premise of music ministry that Ted and Sara were doing with Baxter. I felt these scenes were well done. As this is book two I can't share much about what happens but know that you really need to read book one first as so much carries over from that book into this one.

One LESS on the paperback TBR shelf.📚

this series was different from my beloved tides of truth series by the same author.
* In the Tides of Truth each book was a different case.
* I loved the characters immediately.
*it flowed fast and I want more of that series.
~
this series...
* I didn't bond with the main character
* both books in this series are the same situation.
* the lying on and on was so hard to read..
* this book drug on and on.. I was tired of this book, tired of this lying woman so I skipped a lot toward the end. skimmed it.
~so glad I'm done with it.

Now I'm hesitant to read any of his other books. Maybe in time.

Fact-based Christian Fiction

I have read most of Robert Whitlow's books and am always ready to read those I have not yet read. His "formula" for his writing is about the same in all of his works and even though you anticipate a "happy ending" for all of them, at least for the principal characters, there is enough uncertainty and intrigue to keep the reader eager to continue to purchase this author's books. I would put Robert Whitlow on the same level as John Grisham when it relates to writing engaging legal fiction novels.

3 1/2 stars. I liked the continuing story of the main character, Alexia, and Ted. But I have to say that the day after I finished the book, I kept thinking I needed to finish the book, but I already had. That's because the ending wrapped up so fast and without filling in the details that I'm still waiting to know how certain things happened just before the end arrived. That was disappointing for me. As with the first book, there was an element of fantastical intervention that I found hard to embrace. It could have happened, but I never heard of such a thing happening.

Baxter knows the truth but...

Will everyone else ever know what really happened as Baxter clings onto life one breath away from dying. Rena's web of deceit grows bigger and bigger, but will good triumph over evil...Be prepared for a lot of suspense and some tears, so don't forget the tissues.
Make sure to read Life Support first to get the impact of what happens as the story continues...

Very underwhelmed with this story. It was a continuation of Life Support... which ended mid story... so I had to read to see how the story ended. With that being said... there were many times I just wanted to flip to the last couple of chapters and be done. It was an easy read... and a good storyline... but unbelievable in parts. Amazingly, I can accept the music therapy more than I can the speeding ticket incident.

These two books -- Life Support and the sequel Life Everlasting were two of the best legal thrillers I have read. Robert Whitlow has a real gift for detail, and for fusing art, literature, music, and spiritual themes into a drama that doesn't need nasty language or nasty anything to prop it up. The characters are very well-developed and you can identify enough to feel like friends with a first reading. These books are pure pleasure to read. I will be reading all his books.

It is Robert Whitlow- what do you expect? This is an interesting read. The story is about Alexia Lindale, a single attorney who is trying to establish her own practice. The storyline kept me interested and the characters could live down the street from me. Robert Whitlow is such a great storyteller that I always look forward to reading one of his books and meeting the new friends he brings to us. This is a part of a series but it also stands alone. Great book.

Part 2

Amazing finale of the 2-part Alexia Lindale series. Plausible twists and turns galore kept me guessing and in suspense. Tragedy, mercy, justice, moral and ethical quandaries, life and death, faithful pets, and other true to life episodes make these two books an engaging and inspiring read. Be sure to tread them in correct order.

Whitlow has crafted an exquisite masterpiece! I was immediately immersed into the drama. Twists and turns kept me turning the pages. Strong spiritual truths are woven throughout the pages. These characters will linger long after turning the final page.

Recommend to readers who enjoy legal drama.

I borrowed a copy from the library. I have expressed my honest view.

Good read.

Didn’t like this book as well as the first, but still a very good read. Moved quickly and held my interest. Just felt everything tried to end at the very end and so was rushed and rather cramped in.

Great Music

Love Love Love this series. Wish there was a 3rd, as some things went unanswered. Love the Spiritual overtone, finding God in unusual places.

The ending of book one was enough to interest me in this book. Both books have moments of plots that i liked, but overall it was less than captivating. Had it on the plane to Ireland and was tired of it within an hour.

Different than his usual style

At times the book was confusing about whether the main character would ever tell the truth , but some of the characters were not thoroughly wound up as to their purpose. In the plot and there needed to be more details in the wind up of the story.

I read both books and this review covers both. I previously read two other of his books. Since I am originally from South Carolina and Georgia and also studied law at Emory University this Christian author caught my attention. Reading his books was like going back to law school as he is extremely detailed and precise in all legal matters and courtroom descriptions. It also brought back many memories of the early years of my life.
The tale told innovative and interesting though at times very involved.
It is a pleasure to be able to read interesting books without profanity and sex and I will read more of Robert Winslow's books.

I didn’t want this book to end! Hope there’s a third book as there are some loose ends that need to be tied😊 Robert Whitlow’s characters are deep and his love for wanting to reach people with the gospel is obvious. Such a gift!!

good mystery

This was a good mystery that kept me thinking. I didn’t read the first book in this series so I struggled initially to follow the book, once I was half way, I couldn’t wait to finish.

Whitlow never disappoints

With multiple twists and turns throughout the plot, Whitlow pulls the reader in from the very beginning. He is a master at "showing, not telling." Recommended!
