No more slinging drinks for bad tips, no more swatting old men’s hands away while making small talk for small dollars. From this day forward Paige will be the acting manager of The Carlisle. She just has to politely exit the swanky apartment she spent last night in, and hope the gorgeous man who rents it isn’t insulted by her hasty retreat.
All's well that ends well, until that is, her one night stand walks into the morning staff meeting.
Now instead of promotion plans she has promotion problems.
1. He’s the owner’s nephew 2. He’s holding keys to the manager’s office 3. She slept with the enemy
A lesser woman would lick her wounds and accept her fate, but Paige isn’t known for standing down. By the end of the day she’s earned herself another shot at manager. All she has to do is take down the hunk.
Wow , I am absolutely in awe after finishing this book . This book is one of the best things I have ever read, and I don’t care who you are, if you have feelings, you need to give this book a shot.
I don’t think I will ever get over this amazing book or the flood of emotions sweeping me away right now. I absolutely love ml , he is sweet caring responsible and dashing ,broody young man. And our fl is littery witty cunning and awesome with her strategies and comeback. Tension between both of them is really entertaining , love their fights to win manager position. Over an all I love this novel is set and fast paced.
My fav quotes 🌼“You’re my best friend, and therefore legally obligated to take my side no matter what. Though, in this case, I would like it noted that I am one hundred percent in the right.” 🌼“People change their minds all the time.”
Much thanks to and Boom Tours for sending me a copy for review and for inviting me to be a part of this tour. This review is voluntary and opinions are fully my own. Also, all quotes are taken from the ARC and may or may not appear in the final published copy.
This is one of those wake up with a stranger who turns out to be your boss tropes
At the beginning of the story, Paige was childish & Wes was mean, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue, but thankfully, the characters do begin to develop & grow.
I liked the way the story highlights the value of a degree AND the value of experience - they each bring something worthwhile
My gripe is I hate when the love interest says they have realized they have no interest in X, but the protagonist decides they didn't mean it, & so makes some kind of sacrifice rather than holding the love interest back from doing X despite what they were told. I also hate when there's something they should talk about but they don't. Communication conflicts need to be real not contrived or they get too frustrating.
The wrap up is satisfying, though, and overall it was an enjoyable read
*Romance level: passionate kisses, off screen intimacy, nothing graphic (PG-13 level) *A higher number than average of missed edits
🍹Lovers to Enemies to Lovers ⠀ After years of hard work Paige will soon be the manager of the bar she loves. She’s out celebrating when she meets Wes who’s also out celebrating a new job. Then consequently has a tipsy one night stand with him. ⠀ This 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 romance was enchanting. The competition was fire and hilarious and everything I wanted. Wes falls in love with the Carlisle and discovers he wants to run it just as much as Paige does, and that’s not all he falls in love with. ⠀ The 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 were charming, flawed, and wonderful. I fell in love with them instantly, and just couldn’t decide who to root for in their competition. ⠀ This was an easy 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 read you won’t want to miss. Such a fun clean adult romance.
This is the first book that I've read by this author, and I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! WOW! I can't wait to read more by this awesome author, so I'm going to HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND Hotshots to everyone! Happy reading everyone
Such an easy and lighthearted read. If you like competitive characters and a slow burn romance you’ll want to take a look at this one
Set in a dive bar in Nashville, Paige and Wes are battling it out to prove to the bars owner that they are what’s needed to bring the place up to scratch and put The Carlisle on the map following a one night stand. With different backgrounds and experiences the two quickly become rivals for the managing role and battle it put to claim victory, only to discover that they may want to win more than just the job.
A great story line that never dwelled or lingered too much, the pacing was consistent and it had a nice plot wrap up. It made me giggle and smile throughout and I found myself flying through the story.
Wes is completely adorable, a lovely character. Honestly, I would have loved to have seen a little more of his background merging with his present circumstances, more involvement with Madeline and perhaps a little more conflict for him but he prevailed as the upstanding gentleman I wanted, a male character written by a woman and I loved him.
Paige is a little more complex for me, she makes some choices I don’t fully agree with and never really claims responsibility for how those choices make others feel, I’m not sure she is worthy of Wes personally but I love that the writing made me feel that way and reflected a more juvenile side to her. I felt like it really bought her character to life and her though processes had a lot to do with that.
Overall it’s a really pleasant and easy going read, it’s defiantly helped confirm my decision to read more romance. I’m delighted to have received a copy from the author via @Bookofmatchesmedia
You know the drill by now. You wake up in some dude's apartment after a one-night-stand, you say goodbye, you go to work, you find out that some dude is your new boss. Sorry girls, I know it sucks but I don't make the rules, that's just how it works.
So, anyway, what makes it worse for Paige is that some dude, whose name is Wes, is getting the job she thought was hers. (It is never too clear why she thought that she was a shoo-in.) In a bit of flighty management, her boss Kathy announces to the staff that she hired Wesley as the new manager for the bar Paige works at but promptly takes it back and lets Wesley and Paige compete for the position, trying to figure out what kind of theme nights would bring in the most money. Wesley doesn't know the first thing about running a bar but he has a business background and is determined to make it work because this is far better than working for his snotty family. Paige knows the bar clientele and has creative ideas but she doesn't really understand the money side of everything. In the end it might be best if they could work together but there is no need for two bar managers and Wes has more options, both career-wise and women-wise, as the publicity for the bar has generated some Wes groupies and he has a sleek, elegant ex who appears to be regretting the end of their relationship.
This was an entertaining, easy read. Steam level: Sex is implied but never observed. I received a booksprout copy and this is a voluntary review.
It starts with a wonderfully awkward morning after the "mistake-making." I thought it would start with them meeting at the bar but this was fantastic 😂 Such a great story! Loved the couple's chemistry and their one-night-stand-turned-boss-and-employee-enemies-to-lovers. Fun drama, tension, she takes care of him while he's sick. Paige almost makes an extremely bad decision, which I didn't find realistic or fitting to her character even if she is blinded by her ambition. Overall it was a totally fun wild ride.
💕 RCRS: 4 (Fade to black)
🍻 SOME QUOTES Whether Wes knew it or not, they were in competition against each other. She wanted the manager job. He had the manager job. Therefore, Paige was going to have to take it by any means necessary. If that meant she had to tear him apart limb by limb—metaphorically, of course—so be it. .... Every time they crossed paths he’d been giving her strange looks, though. She was still trying to determine whether they were “I’m going to drag you into the supply closet and kiss you until you don’t remember your name,” or “I can’t wait until I’m the boss and I get to fire you” looks. .... "You can’t work at the Carlisle forever. Pretty soon you’ll be old and no one will tip you for your looks anymore. You’ll have to rely on your personality, and that concerns me.”
Trope: Enemies to lovers, competitive lead characters
Review
This book was a book that had me immediately immediately rushing to Instagram to st@lk the author on Instagram after reading the first few chapters! I loved the author's writing style, the plot developed steadily and the elements of humour were added in the right moment and made this book a perfect weekend read! It's a two sitting kind of book I mean you can finish it in one sitting if you're single and two if you're a mom (pet Or human both suck away your time XD )
The book starts off with a face off with the consequence of a drunken night they part amicably so there would be no issue you might think, but BAM he had to be the owner's nephew of the dive bar she's worked on for so long! What she thought was a sure thing is now slipping away from her fingers because of Wes! She has to compete to show that she can do it I mean she has tons of experience where Wes only has a college degree and the privilege of being the owner's nephew while she's fuming she's also attracted to him and things do tend to steam up when the friction is high ain't it ;)
Perfect weekend read if you're in the mood for a light yet competitive read with romance on top!!
Paige is a bartender who has been putting in her dues, and now she's up for a promotion to manager. Or so she thought. When she goes home with a guy -- a one night stand with a pretty sweet apartment -- she doesn't expect to see him at her job that next day. Especially not at the morning staff meeting. Where she learns that not only is he the owner's nephew, but that he's also going to be the new manager. So she speaks to the owner about giving her a fair chance, and thus begins the battle. The prize? Winner gets to be the new manager.
Okay, this was fun and quick and I had a great time reading it. Paige and Wes go back and forth with themed nights at the bar in order to bring in customers and I knew I was going to love this book when she makes him wear a red shirt for Star Trek night. There's a lot of sweet moments between them as time goes on, and serious moments where we see some of the problems bartenders face on a daily basis. But overall I loved the dynamic between them, and I honestly would love to read more by this author.
It started in a very dramatic way and took an intense turn of events in mere 24hrs. Having a competitive spirit between the characters and the slow burn romance just made the story pretty good and smooth to read. It’s from Paige and Wes' POV, both have different family backgrounds, and different life struggles but they come together under a dive bar where both want to be the BOSS. The fun started when innovative ideas come sailing into Paige’s mind and strengthens the challenges. The ending joins all the pieces together to make a picture. I missed having an epilogue, I’m a big fan of them and wanted one here too. After the Madeliene fiasco(when you will read it, you will know what I’m saying), the epilogue seems needed just to clear the air more profusely.
I enjoyed almost everything wacky and zany about this book!
Paige is such a strong female character that I enjoyed immensely and she really made me laugh. I also really enjoyed all of her crazy antics and her hustle puts me at a sloth’s pace for sure! I loved the relationship between her and Larry so much. (Also Larry has to be my favorite character. )
The only thing I did NOT enjoy about this book was Paige’s leading man... Wes... He just REALLY bugged me. He rubbed me wrong in the beginning and I just never really got over it. He had all the elements to be a wonderful enemies to lovers love interest, but I was just not that into him and I don’t know why.
Overall, this rom com was a fast paced and fun read.
Hot Shots was a quick, fun, and lighthearted read I enjoyed. This is a one-night stand turned office romance where Paige wakes up in someone's apartment, says goodbye, and then finds out not only is he a new employee in her office, but he got the job she was aiming for. This hilarious competition, slow-burn romance, and development of tension made this an entertaining read.
This story was easy to follow along with and I was intrigued by the plot. This book made me smile and while I loved reading how things came together at the end, I also would have loved an epilogue.
Overall, a quick, easy, and entertaining read guaranteed to make you laugh. This isn’t the spiciest of books as there is not on-page description of sex.
I read this book a while ago. I liked it up until one particular scene where the female lead (a white woman) darkens the appearance of her skin for a costume.
Context: The scene is a star wars themed night and the female lead decides to go as Jabba The Hutt.
"She used a deep brown bronzer to match her face to the mummy bag and foregone all other makeup."
As a brown woman, this instantly made me extremely uncomfortable. I know that this wasn't the author's intention - but there were so many other ways that this costume could have been executed...and unfortunately the one that they went with chose the character darkening her skin.
I did go on to read the rest of the book, but this one instance really cast a shadow on the whole book and ruined it for me.
Paige is convinced that she is getting a promotion to become the acting manager of “The Carlisle”, and she ends up having a one-night stand, only to discover that the man she left behind is none other than Wes, the owner’s nephew, and now new boss. Wes and Paige are both competitive, and become rivals for the management position, and they may be total opposites, but they complement each other perfectly. This is a well written well-paced storyline, with humor, witty banter, emotions, intrigue, and in an entertaining and light-hearted page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
While Hotshots was a cute, slow-burn romance that will make you smile, it kind of missed the mark for me.
The story was consistent throughout and was easy to get through. However, I don’t think there was enough angst in it for me. It just felt like there could have been more meat to the story. I wanted to know more about Wes’ background. I also had a hard time like Paige. I felt like she didn’t take responsibility for anything and was just a meh character to me.
I thought the storyline was intriguing and the writing was good, the author is definitely talented, this book just kind of missed the mark for me. But if slow-burn office romances are your trope, give it a read. ❤
What a fun and delightful read! I enjoyed reading this book and the author did a great job with world building and allowing you to connect to the characters. I adored both Wes and Paige and seeing their interactions! If you are looking for a book that will make your heart happy and leave you with a smile on your face, this is definitely one for you to check out! I will be checking out more by the author!
PS: Thank you to MF Lorson and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!
What a great read! If you loved The Hating Game, then definitely check this one out! The banter and back and forth is fantastic! Paige and Wes are both competing to be the manager of a dive bar called The Carlisle (totally just did the dance 😂). Paige suggests doing a theme night to get some new people into the bar and then the owner decides that Paige and Wes will take turns creating a new theme every Friday night. May the best manager win! Loved the ending too 💕
A fun, quick, slow burn, office type romance to pass the time. The story was easy to get through but I felt the characters could've had more to them. I really didn't take to the FMC, she seemed a little childish for me, spitting her dummy out because she didn't get what she thought she deserved. Think it needed a little more back story to both lead characters 3 🌟
All in competition It's a good romantic comedy, tender and cute even in the competition between Wes and Paige who find themselves competing for the same position. Between Wes' oppressive family and Paige's extreme involvement in the bar, their conflict, their attraction remains important but still intense. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Paige and Wes both think they are the new manager for The Carlise. They only find this out after spending the night together. They are pitted against each other to see who can make the most money in the bar - who will win the challenge and what will it mean for them outside of work?.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a feel good kind of romance book. It felt super easy reading it and I love how the mmc isn't just another typical bad boy who wants to destroy the fmc. They've already been attratced to one another since the beginning, way before they had to 'hate' each other.
Definitely going to try picking up another book from this author.
So much fun ! This story had lots of fun twists and turns. I could not get enough. Loved the theme nights and the final outcome. I highly recommend this story to others
This was a super cute read, I’d say 3.5 stars. It just was short and the ending wrapped up super fast, but I did enjoy it! It kept me engaged the whole time!
Absolutely not. I got one sentence in before I realized it’s a third person narrative. Are we really still publishing those? Maybe the writing is good but I wouldn’t know because I cannot suffer through third person.
A fun simple easy read - was perfect as a book to fill a couple of hours with some humour, no real drama and easy characters. I used it to break up series when some lightheartedness was needed!
