Sometimes you just need to stay alive to fight another day.
Six months ago Ari moved in with the vampire prince Andreas. They defied the vampire elders in Europe, killed their enforcer, and have waited for retaliation that never came.
Until now.
On a trip to Italy, Andreas is captured by the vampire rulers, the notorious O-Seven, and taken in chains to their stronghold in Germany. Ari goes after him, even though it’s against the orders of her Magic Council. She is fired for her actions, losing her special Guardian powers at a time she needs them most.
But the vampire rulers are not through with her or with those who attempt to help her. They launch attacks in Europe and at home in Riverdale. Ari is forced to fight them on several fronts, and victory grows increasingly uncertain.
Her last chance to rescue Andreas is a daring plan that places her in the hands of the O-Seven and relies on untested witch magic, the final hope for their survival.

Ari is the Guardian, a sort of supernatural police officer, in Riverdale. Her boyfriend Andreas, a vampire prince, is abducted by enemies in Europe and held captive in their castle. Ari leaves right away to rescue him. Even being fired from her job and losing her magical Guardian abilities won't stop her from finding Andreas and bringing him back home. There are going to be some very minor spoilers in this review. You have been warned.
What I liked: The story is engrossing and action-packed. It describes one battle in the war between the American and the European vampires. Andreas and Ari are on the defensive - both their home in Riverdale and their allies in Europe are under attack. On top of that, they have a traitor in their midst. I liked that the identity of the traitor kept me guessing. There are two suspects, but (s)he isn’t revealed until the very end. Also, Ari’s rescue of Andreas is plausible. She somehow has to find a way into a seemingly impenetrable castle. I really like that she doesn’t use a previously unknown, super-secret tunnel or is suddenly able to perform miraculous but unlikely feats of magic. Her solution to the problem is certainly dangerous, but it makes sense in the circumstances. Plus, notice that it’s Ari who rescues Andreas. It’s a nice change to have a book where it’s the hero who has to be rescued. Ari is strong and capable and makes for a wonderful heroine. Her relationship with Andreas is a joy to read. There is a nice amount of romance, but it doesn’t dominate the storyline. We find out a little more about Andreas‘ past and his family. This poses some interesting questions for future books.
What I didn’t like: I’m not a big fan of coincidences. There are one or two scenes in the book that were just a little too coincidental. For example, Ari has to find a troll to obtain some information. She just so happens to save his niece from falling off a cliff minutes before meeting him. Naturally he’s very eager to help her after that. It’s not a big issue in the overall scheme of things, but it was enough to take me out of the story (and have me rolling my eyes) for a little while.
Conclusion: An exciting and entertaining read. I’m already impatient for the next book in the series. The author now has a firm place on my list of auto-buys. I would recommend reading the previous four books before this one. It makes for a much better understanding of the overall storyline.
DNF at 12%. MC is now a stupid twit, suffering from PTW. Can't even bring myself to re-read the first part to list all of the stupid she does, like concealing the supernatural witness to a the slaughter of a bunch of humans by other supernaturals, and bemoaning that the supernaturals responsible went and got themselves killed on her turf. Or encouraging her equally idiotic honey to walk into a trap anyone could see coming, even if they hadn't read the book's description.
She's supposed to be a kick ass supernatual cop. And was, for 4 books. I feel like I am reading poorly written fanfic with only superficial similarities to the first several books in this series.
This is by far the best Guardian Witch book yet! Everyone is tested in this book, and aside from setting the book down to wipe some tears (warning: we say goodbye to someone), I literally didn't put this book down until I finished it! Without giving away anything, I'll say there is a surprise about a certain someone at the end of this book, and I'll also say it's a fantastic ending. I am very excited to see what happens in the next book!
I think after book 4, I sort of lost track of this series and only decided to get back into it since I really want to hit my book goals for the year. :) I didn't re-read the previous book to refresh my memory, and I don't think it took away any enjoyment by just going into book 5.
It was nice getting back to the gang, although I forgot who plays what role. The plot was interesting, and I loved Ari's focus on getting Andreas back. I vaguely recall in previous books that she didn't seem as invested in their relationship as he was, and that irked me. But it looks like she is all in and very much has faith in him.
And b/c I'm a spoilery kind of gal, here are some random spoilers for those of you who like to know what they're getting into like me:
Fire storm is an amazing addition to the Guardian Witch series. It covers love, friendship, loyalty, heartbreak and so much more. Ally had me hooked from the very beginning and, just when I thought things couldn't get any more intense, she kicked it up a notch! It was one hell of a journey and I loved every moment of it.
Characters & Storyline: 5/5 Ally truly creates well-rounded, strong characters that are so easy to connect with and care for. The story line was gripping and the adventure was rough - emotionally and physically.
Ari & Andreas: Together this is one of my favourite paranormal couples. I really am enjoying Ari & Andreas's romance. It has ups, downs and more challenges than any normal couple would be able to handle, yet they get through it and are always stronger for it. I think this was the most challenging journey for Ari so far, emotionally, and I wasn't always sure she was going to make it. Initially I was a bit frustrated with Ari and her progress with her powers but I am happy to say that Ally gave us some answers with regards to her magic, as well as her bond with Andreas. I am left wanting more, though!!! Ari's friendship with Claris is beautiful and my heart literally broke at one important part of the story. I couldn't believe what these two were going through and how they stuck with each other. Andreas: Even though the story involved him, he was mostly in the background. I was so irritated that he was blocking Ari out and not helping her find him! I did get some answers at the end of the book, but it's not to say that I wasn't annoyed with him for most part of the story, especially when I was questioning his actions!!!
Steffan: I was so happy to see some more of Steffan in Fire Storm. I have a little inkling-hope he might end up with someone else in the story - but I can't tell you who without giving away a huge spoiler!! *hint hint Ally*
Mangi - Mangi is a minor character in the story but I just adore him! He is a great, misunderstood, reformable side character. When you meet him - he makes you cringe just a bit but before you know it he will crawl into your heart!
Rebekah - Grrrr she annoys me. No more needs to be said.
Plot, Pace, Writing style: 5/5 Ally really kicks up the action, suspense & drama in Fire storm. I love how Ally weaves the main and sub plots together so perfectly, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Ally has grown beautifully as a writer and just gets better and better with every book! The pacing was perfect and she really knows how to tug at your heart strings.
Cover talk: 5/5 I loved this cover - It is the best out of the entire series so far!!!
Final Thoughts: I loved Fire Storm. It is a perfect mixture of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a kick-ass heroine and a good adventure that involves challenges, love and friendship
*I received this book free from Red Moon Book Tours in exchange for an honest review*
Unlikely bonds are formed, traitors step forward to revel in their treachery, and life for Andreas and Ari will change forever.
Ari and Andreas are officially living together, but with the threat of the O-Seven still pushing in around them things are more tense than happy. When Andreas is taken captive Ari will stop at nothing to get him back...not even his resistance or stories of betrayal will keep her from following her heart.
"Are you all right? My God, Arianna. I wanted to tear out their evil hearts."
There's a lot that happens in Fire Storm, and yet at the same time it seemed to drag on as if nothing was happening. For the overall series storyline I know there were important things that light was shed on, but at the same time this was definitely not my favorite book. Many of the characters I have grown to love only had minor parts and many new characters were introduced that I didn't feel connected to. However, I loved the ending!
My Favorite Moment: I always enjoy when Ari has gotten fed up and goes barging in somewhere. Warlock or not she'll set Riverdale free with her fiery vengeance and when push comes to shove she'll take back what's hers.

Ally Shields has done it again, delivering quite possibly the best in this series to date. It may be because at this point I am fully invested in the characters, and she has had five books to develop the world and characters, but I was amazed. One page in and I was already back into the world of my favorite witch cop and vampire hunk ;)
I also appreciated that this book broke the formula that the other books followed to this point. We got the same characters and feelings, but different scenarios... and without giving away any spoilers, I loved the interaction with the witch's coven.
And the ending... wow... the ending for book 4 got me... and this one got me even more. I cannot wait for the next in the series.
I love Andreas, Ari and the gang. This addition to the series was good, but it had a little too much of Ari running around like a chicken with her head cut off. She had a lot going on and everything was in different places/countries.
There wasn't enough Andreas, but it was interesting learning more about the witches in Europe. I really like Sophie and some of her coven.
The fifth installment of this series shows new developments in Ari and Andreas' relationship as well as new friends. There are new problems by the O-seven of course and many other issues. An outstanding read that keeps you reading till the end.
