In this fun rhyming story, a family celebrates Passover with lots of matzah–with lox, as stuffing, matzah pizza, and matzah candy. Get it from a box or make it yourself.
Information about Passover and matzah, as well as matzah recipes are included at the back of the book.

It's Matzah Day! How will you celebrate? Crispy, cheesy, covered in Jam, DIY pizza, or even as dessert?
Help your grown-up bake, help your siblings decorate, no matter the size or shape, and then eat your fill on Matzah Day!
A cute rhyming picture book showcasing all of the various ways you can enjoy Matzah (just kindly don't do so in bed).
Simplistic text by Charlotte Offsay and illustrations by Jason Kirschner provide recipes and details about Passover at the back of the book to help. How will you eat your Matzah!
As someone who only knew a tiny bit about Passover from the Jewish perspective, this book wasn't particularly helpful if you wanted to know more about that topic or Passover traditions. However, if you were aware of Matzah Day before reading this book, it is simply a cute family-friendly story about Matzah.
Whether you were already a fan of author Charlotte Offsay's "Challah Day!" (2023), or are a newcomer to her delightful books about the joy of traditional Jewish carbs, LOL, I think you're going to love her new follow-up, "Matzah Day!"
Just in time for Passover, this playful ode to all the ways one can enjoy this flatbread that plays such a big role in the holiday is a great read-aloud, sure to have your kids bouncing along and suggesting ideas of their own, both serious and comical.
I enjoyed this one tremendously, from the thoughtful textual reference to "Pesach" in Hebrew (rather than the English "Passover"), to multiple recipes in the back!
From the fantastic team that brought us CHALLAH DAY, comes a joyous tribute to one of the most iconic traditional Passover foods: matzah! Once again, Ms. Offsay has created a rollicking rhyming story full of fun, celebrating all the ways to enjoy this festival food with family and friends. The adorable illustrations by Mr. Kirschner elevate the joy even more. Back matter includes information about the Jewish holiday and why matzah is eaten, as well as a few recipes to try at home. Highly recommend!
The creators of the equally energetic Challah Day! are at it again, celebrating Jewish Passover and baking matzah. The rhyming lines and kid-friendly artwork, created with an iPad tablet and Procreate software, show that everyone in the family is involved in some way, gathering ingredients, offering encouraging words, looking on eagerly, and even sitting together with warm, full tummies. For those who are hungry after finishing the book, there are recipes and brief information about Passover and matzah.
If you loved CHALLAH DAY by Charlotte Offsay and Jason Kirshner (and who didn't?) you'll love the follow-up, MATZAH DAY! This is such a cute rhyming story about all the different ways you can eat matzah and even a warning not to eat it in bed! The rhymes are snappy and fun, and the illustrations are adorable. The backmatter includes background on Pesach (Passover) as well as some recipes to make your own matzah. This is such a fun read-aloud. I highly recommend it.
An absolutely delightful follow-up to Challah Day from the dynamic author-illustrator duo Charlotte Offsay and Jason Kirshner! With a fun rhyming text that demands repeat readlouds, backmatter that explains the Pesach (Passover) traditions, and matzah recipes, this is a wonderful addition to any home or school library.
This book is an absolute delight and will certainly get children to come up with imaginative, tasty ways to use matzah during Passover. The writing and illustrations are joyful and playful, lyrical and fun. Make sure to check out "Challah Day!" too, which celebrates making challah for Shabbat! Note: Kosher for Passover matzah is made from flour and water.
The short, funny picture book “Matzah Day” by Charlotte Offsay with illustrations by Jason Kirschner (Holiday House) is the perfect way to introduce young children to matzah. The family featured loves matzah, no matter its shape or size. See the rest of my review at https://www.thereportergroup.org/feat...
The ending of "eight full days of matzah fun makes our tummies scream, 'All done!'" felt very real (with maybe a slight bit of sarcasm on the "fun" though this book has been very earnest about it).
This is very much a book about matzah, not so much about Passover, though there is a seder on page, and the backmatter is solid.
MATZAH DAY! is a fun rhyming story about all the different ways you can eat matzah! The perfect rhymes and the adorable illustrations complement each other nicely. The backmatter includes the origin of Passover and some recipes to make your own matzah. Highly recommended.
With a sing-song rhyme scheme, a family tells how to make matzah and enjoy it through Pesach. Cartoonish illustrations seem canned. End pages include more information about matzah, Passover, and Pesach, plus some matzah recipes.
Great rhyming cadence! Short phrases on each page, the pictures steal the show with a cute dog and cat! Also gives good information on Passover. Backmatter gives many details on Passover and matzah.
This is a fun and bouncy homage to Matza that is a joy to read aloud. I was so glad to see pages on my two favorite Passover treats, Matzah toffee and Matza pizza, with recipes included in the back! Perfect for Passover storytimes. Highly recommended for preK & up.
What a wonderful follow up to Challah Day by the same pair who brought us that delightful book of Jewish joy and family cooking. Not a flat note to be found. Who could pass over this new Pesach book! Such a treat to add this to my holiday bookshelf.
Once again Charlotte Offsay has teamed up with Jason Kirschner to create an adorable picture book. Last year they wrote Challah Day!, a cute story where a family teams up to make challah for Shabbat. In "Matzah Day!", everyone is happy to make and eat matzah. The cute illustrations and clever rhymes show a variety of ways to enjoy Matzah, The afterward includes background on Passover and several recipes, including instructions for making your own matzah from scratch. This sweet picture book is ideal for story time, and the recipes will entertain older readers. I can't wait to try my hand at them.
