Miranda (Miranda Hart) is an unconventional woman. She’s six feet tall, self-conscious, and posh. And she is frequently mistaken for a man. She’s also invested her inheritance in a joke shop that she runs with her friend Stevie (Sarah Hadland) while trying to deal with her outrageously embarrassing mother (Patricia Hodge). Though surrounded by chocolate willies, Miranda is determined to suss out what it takes to be a girly girl and to not look a complete idiot every time she meets the gorgeous Gary (Tom Ellis). Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop —first broadcast on BBC Radio 2—is written by Miranda Hart ( Hyperdrive, Absolutely Fabulous, Lead Balloon ), with James Carey ( My Family, Think the Unthinkable ) and Simon Dean ( Not Going Out ). 2 CDs. 2 hrs.
I have to admit I love the sitcom! Therefore it was interesting to see how much it has developed from these first sketches and how the characters too had progressed. While a lot of the material is the same or similar there are some extra scenes that make this worth visiting if you’re a fan.
I heart Hart's (see what I did there? That's why Miranda is a comedian and I'm not!) sense of humour and posh delivery. I can think of nothing better to conclude my 2019 reading challenge.
I really enjoyed the show that was adapted from this radio show, so I was quite excited to listen to this. It was interesting to see how things changed between the two, though a lot of it remained the same. My major problem with it is that is felt really rushed.
Brilliant! I LOVE the sitcom Miranda so I was thrilled when I discovered it was originally a radio series. There's enough new material here to be entertaining even if you've just watched the show recently, but honestly even if it was all the same I'd still love it. They did a great job writing rather physical jokes in a way that come across well with no visual, and it was such a blast to visit with the old gang again. I just wish it was more than four episodes!
No one's funnier than Miranda! I was happy to get some extra material from this book that wasn't on the her sitcom, which is undoubtedly the funniest sitcom in the 21st century!
Where it all started: the original radio series of Miranda Hart's Joke Shop, which became the BBC's Miranda, beloved by young and old alike for its general silliness. Such fun!
Love u Miranda. Always a delight, although pretty much the same jokes as the TV show (and you can tell the TV script benefited from a rewrite for a necessary “update” of some of the jokes). Overall, such fun.

While I had never seen the TV series, or even heard of it, I enjoyed the radio series, in all its radio-ness. Well done, and the kind of humor that works well on radio.
