The flock of swearing crows is normal. The earthquakes and murder spree are not. To graduate, will she have to fend off a devilish destiny?
Devil’s Point, New York. Mettie Eastey loved coming from a long line of evildoers. But the senior year student is left reeling when she learns she doesn’t share her tiny Satanic town’s bloodline, destroying her relationship with her grandmother. And she can’t help thinking something’s a bit off when she chases off bullies… and the next day the taunting boys show up stone cold dead.
Skeptical of the supernatural after an attempt to make a pact with the Lord of Darkness fails spectacularly, Mettie tries to convince herself that the macabre series of slayings that follow are the work of a simple serial killer. Yet with all Hell threatening to break loose, understanding the motive behind the morbid massacre could be the only way to keep her body and soul in one piece.
Will her stubborn determination to deny Satan end in fire and brimstone?

In my high school English class I was caught with a book behind the book I was supposed to be reading. Detention gave me a chance to finish them both in peace. Eventually I read so many books that they started to come back out.
By way of most of the coasts, I reside in the major metropolis of Sayre, PA with my husband and our cat that sees dead people.
I'm docking a star bc this reads like a YA novel. I typically stay clear of YA. I looked and it didn't say it was but then when I asked AI it said it was soooo.... 🤷♀️ I thought this would be a little darker. It started out cute and by "cute" I mean the whole priest and nuns dressed in black and red. The gothic description of the church. Worshiping Lucifer. I was for it. But then it kind of fell off for me bc the MC doesn't believe in Lucifer...... *crickets*.... ooook. 👀 That pulled me out of the story a little bit. I wanted to be completely immersed in this book. Learn about the girls at a Luciferian school, learn about this religion and the whole town that is dedicated and committed to it. Some of it does get talked about and explained but it was a downer that it was so little bc the MC doesn't believe in it.
But then you do learn of the towns dark history as the story progresses and the murders start happening. The deaths are interesting tho not graphic. One towards the end really sticks out to me that I did not see coming. There's some pages found that may or may not be the historically lost last few pages of Lucifers Bible that he personally wrote and drew himself. It has some killer art work. And could possibly be linked to the murders in town.
The family drama and betrayel was kind of messed up. I was for it tho. Backstabbing. Secrets. Lies. Multiple deaths. There is a scene where transphobia and an attack takes place. So there is dark themes in this story. Also, Some good plot twists.
If you're thinking about reading this book, I say go for it.
Everything starts with Shelby arriving at Devil's Point to study in St. Lucifer school for girls. And let's say her parents aren't exactly welcoming her coming out as transgender girl. There aren't many new people in town, there aren't much stuff happening around so Shelby immediately attracts attention. Mettie doesn't have an anchor. She recently discovered she's been adopted and it turned her world upside down. She has no idea what she'll do when she grows up. She doesn't believe in the supernatural despite all the evidence to the contrary which is somewhat frustrating. Soon after Shelbie's arrival the boys who tormented her are found dead (yay) but there's now killer at large (not yay). It's cheesy but I didn't mind it. You can figure out who the murderer is and why they are doing it pretty much right away. I don't read thrillers normally but I wanted to pick it up based on title alone. I've had a good time with it.
Such a great book! It’s quick and easy to read, I finished it in an afternoon. The characters are super young but they aren’t annoying, Mettie is smart and has her petty moments but I guess all teenage girl has them… Shelby is a beautiful soul!!! Highly recommend!
I’ve been reading this 290 page book for 9 days and I still only made it to 60% I tried so hard but I’m DNFing. This books was just dragging on and on.
Devil's Point, New York is special. It's a strange, jutted, outcropping peninsula where the Eastley family and all their descendants have created a haven perfect for their Satanist way of life. But for Baphomet "Mettie" Eastley, everything is a little upside down-ever since she found out that she was adopted and things got a little...weird. Mettie's not even sure if she believes in the supernatural aspects of her faith system that everyone else seems to cling to, especially at St. Lucifer's where she attends school.
But when the new girl gets attacked by a pack of transphobic bullies and they do a fake "spell" to ward them off...and then boys end up dead the following day...Mettie starts to realize there may be more secrets in her bloodline than she ever anticipated. And as the bodies start dropping around her, there may be more darkness than even the followers of the Dark Lord are willing to tolerate.
This was a romp that delighted me-a gory, spooky, lovely, refreshing take on a horror story. It's like Sabrina meets Gossip Girl meets Gilmore Girls and I mean that with the highest praise. This book was fun, dark, twisted-never taking itself too seriously but never being disrespectful or trite either. This was a great read, perfect for Summerween!
St. Lucifer's School for Girls by indie-author AM Caplan, is a must read for anyone who feels like an outsider even in their own family... or if your vibe is Halloween witches, devil worship, and/or you're looking for LGBTQ positive horror mysteries.
Comparable movies/shows: Riverdale meets Chilling Adventures of Sabrina meets Seven.
It's Mettie's senior year of high school and being the last female descendant of the town's founder - who escaped the Salem Witch Trials and for whom Satan literally created the land the Halloween-themed town rests on - popularity and privilege are a given because of her heritage. Only she (and everyone else in town) just found out she was secretly adopted as a baby. It seems everything changed overnight, and now it feels like her life has been a lie and she no longer fits in, especially with her beloved grandmother who is obsessed with the bloodline.
Enter Shelby, who just transferred to St. Lucifer's due to death threats and being disowned by her family for being transgender. The two girls hit it off, especially after bullies from Shelby's old school track her down and the two girls are assaulted, but Mettie manages to scare them off by pretending to cast a curse.
Thus starts a series of ritualistic murders to bring forth an ancient prophesy... starting with the bullies who were killed that same night in the same park. And as the killings continue, everything leads back to Mettie and Shelby and a school project that is far too close to the truth than they realize.
I really enjoyed this book for it clever dialogue, creepy atmosphere, and plot that kept twisting and evolving. And I'm pleased to say that I was dead wrong about who the killer was and deeply appreciated the ironic twist at the end.
St. Lucifer’s School for Girls by A.M. Caplan is a spellbinding journey into the eerie world of dark academia. From the moment the protagonist steps through the iron gates of this hauntingly beautiful boarding school, readers are plunged into an atmosphere thick with secrets and supernatural intrigue. Caplan’s writing is vivid and immersive, bringing the school’s shadowy corridors and hidden chambers to life.
The characters are richly developed, each harboring secrets that gradually unravel as the mystery deepens. The protagonist is relatable and strong-willed, navigating the treacherous social hierarchies and sinister forces that lurk beneath the school’s polished exterior. The supporting cast is equally compelling, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.
The plot is masterfully crafted, with twists that keep you guessing until the very end. Caplan balances suspense and emotion perfectly, ensuring the story is as heartfelt as it is thrilling. However, there are moments when the pacing slows, and a few questions remain unanswered, leaving room for potential sequels or further exploration.
Despite these minor issues, St. Lucifer’s School for Girls is an engrossing tale that blends mystery, magic, and coming-of-age drama in a uniquely haunting setting. Fans of dark academia and supernatural thrillers will find it impossible to put down.
An interesting take on reverse "catholic school" life with some family drama. Though I liked the characters, there was never really any growth or change for them. They were a bit flat, even after telling their past or hardships they just kind of remained the same. The plot was pretty obvious who the villian would be. Near the end I was almost hoping to be wrong, so it wasn't so obvious, but oh well. There were moments where there seemed to be more to it, like the parents knew more then they let on about Mettie's lineage but nothing was ever explained then they just left it at 'the parents knew nothing'. A bit boring but it is what it is. Would I read it again? No, but it was an OK read overall.

I really enjoyed this book! Not only was the twist pretty good, but I really just enjoyed the entire book from beginning to end. I was never bored. The religious aspect was cool because you don’t see that in a lot of books, and I also appreciated the trans representation! I listened to the audiobook while reading the e-book and the narration was really good! This was my first book by this author, and most definitely won’t be my last. I already have their others marked on my TBR!
This was an interesting read, but I figured out the killer immediately. The story is about two friends who attend a school where everyone worships the devil. After discovering a mysterious book people begin dying off. I did like the main character who starts off as queen bee at her school but is knocked off her pedestal by not only the new student but a family secret that shattered a close relationship she once had with a family member.
I went in to this thinking I was going to be reading a little more about the going ons at a private girls satanic school, but it never dives in passed the very surface of the school and a few of the other students. The synopsis says the mc comes from a long line of evil doers, but she doesn’t even believe in the devil and her and her parents are quite nice. This book wasn’t nothing like I was expecting, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad book, I still enjoyed it well enough.
Paranormal YA meets cozy mystery...in a Satanic high school? YES. Think "The Trouble With Angels" meets Agatha Christie in Halloweentown. Caplan does a remarkable job fleshing out her characters; I loved the friendship between Mettie and Shelby, it felt like a real, complicated, friendship between two girls. I'd love to read more about these two!
This book is well written and I liked the characters, but this is definitely YA. Transphobia, murder, and betrayal are the "dark" themes, but there is nothing graphic. I, honestly, expected a much darker tale from an all girls' school in a Lucifer worshipping town. Good book, but just not what I was expecting or looking for.
This book is well written and holds your attention. I think it might be geared more toward a YA group. However is written in such a way that adult readers don’t lose interest.
I wasn't sure about this when I started it, but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Mettie and Shelby where interesting characters that I cared about. I did figure out who done it, but not until close to the end. I will look for more books by this author.
Dark and disturbing… and yet also heartwarming. Some cool Salem, MA Easter eggs but still brilliant even if you miss them. Running off to find Caplan’s other books!
Did not see the ending! And don't let the title fool you. It's not about worshipping the devil. Friends and family can be more than they seem and worth less than they deserve.
I was expecting more.. I wanted to love and be obsessed with the book, but I had to force myself to finish "maybe it'll get better in the next chapter." But nope..
This was a fun read. It follows the escapades of Mettie, Shelby and the rest at St. Lucifer's. Throw in some murders, twists and turns and you have St. Lucifer's School for Girls!
A very interesting read with a solid storyline and well written characters. Unfortunately, I don't do spoilers so I will end in saying get your own copy you won't regret it . Highly recommended .
