Lynda's books can be classified as urban fantasy/dark fantasy with romance, suspense/mystery, satire, horror, humor and sex.

Lynda Hilburn writes paranormal fiction. More specifically, she writes vampire books. After a childhood filled with invisible friends, sightings of dead relatives and a fascination with the occult, turning to the paranormal was a no-brainer. In her other reality, she makes her living as a psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, professional psychic/tarot reader, university instructor and workshop presenter. Her series, Kismet Knight, Vampire Psychologist is being rewritten and will be republished by Quercus Books in the UK and Europe, and by Sterling Publishing/Silver Oak in North America. The UK version of the first book in the series, "The Vampire Shrink" will be published September, 2011. The North American version a few months later. Book #2 (tentatively titled "Blood Therapy"), which is a new book, will be published a year later, and book #3 (the book that used to be called "Dark Harvest") will follow a year later. She also has a short story in the anthology, "Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance," called "Blood Song." "Diary of a Narcissistic Bloodsucker" and "Undead in the City" are available through Amazon.com and Smashwords.

I have read and enjoyed the first two books in the Dr. Kismet Knight series. This book is a rewrite of the story titled "Dark Harvest." I started to read Dark Harvest but put it aside to read this version.

Honestly, I liked the story. Kismet is a likeable character, and I really enjoyed getting to know Victoria. I had rather guessed about Maxie, and thought she was being influenced as well. And of course, what is there not to love about Devereux? (sigh)

I will say that while the story was good, I was thoroughly disappointed with the final chapter. I was so excited that Devereux had finally taken Kismet to his "daytime" place. It really showed how much he is trusting her. Then out of the blue, he becomes Mr. Dom, and is asking Kismet to be his Sub? I mean, what the heck?? The whole scene seemed so utterly out of place in this story! It was too "50 Shades of Grey" for me - with Devereux "schooling" Kismet of the role of Dom and Submissive. UGH! It does not seem like the characters to me. It would have been more interesting had Devereux given up control to Kismet and allowed her to explore her passionate nature. Again, I liked the story, but the last chapter threw me for a loop.

#3 Kismet Knight, Vampire Psychologist

Very good third book featuring Kismet, her human or vampire clients and her 800 year old uber-hunk vampire lover, Devereux.

Kismet struggles with her need for independence, against Devereux's insistence that she follows his advice. She knows it's a different game, with the vampire curtain pulled back, but she fights to control her own destiny, while maintaining her relationship.

Kismet is dragged into a friendship with Maxie, a woman who is a tabloid reporter. Maxie insists her friendship with Kismet is just friendship, but soon "are vampires real?" questions come up. Kismet must tiptoe through her answers, not only to protect her vampire lover, but also to protect her clients, including the fragile humans who long to be vampires.

Victoria, a witch and the building's receptionist, becomes better friends with Kismet. *No spoilers* Strange happenings turn out to be a vampire much older and much more powerful than the 800 year old Devereux and his coven of vampires.

Maxie, Victoria, Kismet, Devereux and his vampires get into an extended fight for their lives against the demonic, ageless vampire.

I always enjoy Kismet's client sessions, whether their issues are funny, touching, sad, or a combination of those. I wish there were more sessions with other clients. I was getting tired of Kismet's inner struggles trying to claim her independence when Devereux wanted her to stay at his protected home when there was a threat. If it's a dangerous, blood thirsty vampire coming to town to fight her lover, what's she angsting about?

Author Lynda Hilburn did name a new to me paranormal - a "pyromancer", someone who can read the future by interpreting flames.

This book was the best of the three, in my opinion. The action was nonstop, the romance was fantastic and suspense will keep you on the edge of your chair. Sexy as Hell Devereux is even better than before!

A powerful demon has set his sights on Kismet. An intriguing cast of characters come to her defense or some not so much, but the twists will keep you turning pages until the very satisfying end.

Another must read. And Lynda, is there another book? I'm hooked.

An awesome book.

A thoroughly entertaining book...thrilling at times, funny as Hell others. A very good read that dips into the world of Vampires, the occult, magic and sensuality. A lot of great options for future books. Definitely worth the little money these books cost.

This is the 3rd of a series and I have not read the previous books although it looks almost like a stand-alone with only brief references to other problems. The gist of the book is Kismet is a psychologist to real vampires although this must be kept secret to the human world as she also treats humans during the day. Most people think she is treating mentally ill folks who think they are vampires. Kismet is also involved with the vampire who is similar to a king of Denver, Devereaux.

In this book, Kismet appears on a shock jock radio show and immediately regrets it since the guy is so rude. Afterwards, she meets a platinum haired media person, Maxie. These are connected events which I will not spoil.

The villain in the book is a centuries old daywalker vampire who gets into Kismet’s head and turns it all around metaphorically speaking. Enjoyed the book and I might have to check out the rest of the series. This is not the ooh so sweet type of vamp that is featured in juvenile series. These are hard core bad asses and I love it!

I am sorry that so much timed passed since the last time I read about Kismet but ok, it was a good read even if I didn't remember all the characters involved. I had really hoped that the author would have wrote something more in the mean time, but no....

Vampire and psychologist

I enjoyed the books. This is the third as of this writing, and as far I know, the last one of the series. I have an education in psychology, and I found much of the book having to do with actual practice. Also there is a lot of similarity to the True Blood series on HBO. Eric North from True Blood certainly fits the description as the lead male protagonist in the series. The stories are funny, scary and very entertaining. If you like vampires and certain aspects of psychology, you will love reading these books.

Quite a read.

I really like the humor in this story. Of course there was danger, some blood, & even couple of deaths that all blended together quite well. Can't wait to read more about the psychologist & her vampire.

Alan?

Why no Alan? Why did Kismet do Alan wrong? They were perfect together. So disappointed in this series. They couldn't even get one hookup? Devereux was everything she didn't need and yet feel for. I felt sick this whole book.

I wasn't sure about this series when I read the first book but then I became totally enthralled with the stories. I really want to know what happens next.

Interesting idea a therapist to the monster. She does a good job on the characters. I enjoyed how she shifted gears as the characters encountered drama.

I love Lynda Hilburns Books and her Book Series that follows Kismet Knight, the Vampire Psychologist. This one was more about Kismet and less with snippets about the sessions with clients, which I also like. They are fun and also very interesting. But I can live with it, that they were not as present in this book as in the other ones, I feel.

The main story is the same as it was already portrayed in the original second book "dark harvest". Kismet has a lot to endure and has a lot to deal with. I think any other person would go crazy, but it makes the book so much more interesting and gets you thinking.

I couldn't stop reading and every chapter basically took it a step further. There were no parts that I found boring, as I find in other books. Every scene and every next chapter showed another piece of the puzzle.

Since I already knew the main story, a lot of things were not as surprising as I discover in other books, but the writing is still very good. When I read the book I felt for Kismet a lot. It was heartbreaking to see that Kismet couldn't really decide for herself what she was doing, but it also showed her that her life could be different and she could also not be this reserved person all the time and simply enjoy herself from time to time. This is only healthy and I hope to see more of that in the next books.

I liked the aspects about the split psyche. It got me thinking that in life we always show different parts of ourselves, when we are at work, meet with friends, or how we are with a partner or what we are doing when we are alone. It showed Kismet in the end that she shouldn't always be the good girl, but sometimes stand up for herself and be angry.

Tom, I found very annoying, a little bit too annoying. But that is his character. He decided he wanted to be a vampire, because he was getting older. I cannot understand why Kismet lets him be a part of her life. Perhaps he represents the part of her former life, as a professional and the early stages of her love life. The first love is always very hard to get over. I hope he will be less annoying in the next books, in which we will see him as a vampire or not, since he is not allowed to go near Kismet now, until he can be around humans.

I am also eager to see, how Kismet is dealing with her experiences with Hallow and how she will learn more about herself, when she joins Victorias Coven. I hope Deveraux and Kismet will finally discuss the "mate" issue, as it was mentioned so often now, but they never really talk about it. It is a touchy subject, that I can see, but it should be resolved in a way that they can both live with.

I would like to see Luna again, but I don't think she will appear very often from now on. It would be interesting to see how she feels and how she was as a human or how she experienced her time with Hollow.

Maybe Lynda Hilburn writes these books as 2-book segments now, since there is so much to tell and all that stuff cannot be contained within one book.
I really love Lynda Hilburns writing style. Every time I read her books I feel like I am within the story, in that world, because the emotions that Kismet is feeling are transported through the book so well.

But some parts of the book I was not such a fan of. This is why I rated it only 4-stars. But it is still one of the books that are so worth reading and it is so worth the time.

So I had a hard time figuring out how to rate this book. This is a fun series, and this book was the same... until the last chapter when it turned into Fifty Shades of Vampire. It just didn't make sense. Some background (SPOILERS):

Book One: Kismet is a psychologist in Denver. One of her clients, Midnight, is a young woman who dresses and acts like a Vampire. Kismet decides that she should counsel some of Midnight's friends and then write a book about vampire wannabes and how personality traits and mental health issues could draw people to alternative lifestyles. So she goes to a goth nightclub in a converted church in Denver where Midnight says all the vampires hang out. She meets the owner, a hottie mchotterson named Devereux who claims to be a vampire as well. She thinks he's delusional, but he's a sexy beast so they make out for a bit. Lots of shit goes down, and then Kismet is like, "Oh fuck, vampires are real!" She's of course freaked out, but then she realizes that vampires probably need therapy too and becomes the vampire shrink. Meanwhile she is having amazing sex with Devereux, and he's all, "you're my mate and we're destined to be together forever." Kismet's like, "Whoa whoa whoa! I am a strong independent professional woman. I will not be tied down to one person. If I wanna hook up with this hot FBI guy or my asshole of an ex bf I will. Deal with it."

Book Two: Kismet in mortal danger. Crazy vampires stalking her. Dracula. APA conference. Ghosts. Devereux frustrated that Kismet won't acknowledge that they are destined. Lots of hot sex.

Book Three: Kismet in mortal danger. Under control by oldest vampire on Earth as he tries to make her his slave. Her mind actually fractures, and she has no control over what is happening to her. Devereux keeps pushing the mate thing, and Kismet's like, "you need to stop." Fast forward to the end and Kismet nearly lost her mind, she's emotionally and physically beat up and people she care about died (including one by her own hand). She then has a bath, sleeps and has breakfast. That's the extent of her time to heal and process the trauma. Devereux sweeps her off to his secret batcave where he's like. "Listen. I know you don't remember, but we had violent sex when you were under other guy's control. I liked it, and want start a dom/sub relationship with you." Kismet replies, "Wow that sounds scary but kind of hot. I hope my new existence as a sub doesn't affect my work as a psychologist." Then Devereux pulls out his portable red room of pain... in his batcave... where he claims no one has ever been in it but him.

Psychologically it just makes no sense to me that Kismet would opt to being dominated after being so out of control of everything throughout this book. And this whole "I'm a dom" thing came out of nowhere. She's fought for her independence in all three books, and she was just starting to feel empowered. I know that bdsm is trendy, but it was just an awkward point to introduce it with these characters. I'm just not sure where the series will go from here, but I'm allergic to red rooms of pain.

Last chapter aside, this book was a fun read. Hence the four starts.

I would definitely call this a psychological drama, but it’s too far out for me.

Yes I know it’s about a vampire psychic but for some reason this didn’t sit well with me. Partly because Kismet’s character’s not professional enough, she’s too silly, a little too involved with the drama and her clients are too over-the-top. She’s supposed to have all these special safeguards and abilities and people looking out for her, yet the bad guy just takes over like she’s a helpless babe. I would have like to see Hallow have to struggle a bit more. She’s a psychologist for heaven’s sake. Can’t she help herself?

And also because of the way the psychological possession was done. Felt just a little too eerie. Too many strange people (Carson, Maxie, Tom and Luna) and gross situations. I love Victoria. She seems to be able to keep control. In fact she’s my favorite person through this whole thing. But the rest needed some light, safe or normal places for us to rest a bit.

Halfway through I was wondering if I was up to finish reading it. Only continued since I like the main story and main characters. What I liked most about this is that the strange people are gone and that Kismet starting to have some questions answered.

And I didn’t care for the end epilogue. I like that he finally shared a special secret with her, but after all the fighting Kismet’s been doing over his domineering ways it doesn’t feel right that she’d just give in since he declares she can stop if she wants? I don’t mind dominating men in stories (though I prefer having strong women with passionate men) this just didn’t feel right. I’d feel the connection more with this couple if they kept it more passionate than dominate. Feels like the author’s just jumping on the BDSM band wagon rather than being part of the story.

Footnote: 1) What’s with all these towns having abandoned amusement parks? The parks have switched from family fun to crime locations, at least in books.

Fave scenes: sneaking into the abandoned amusement park, the confrontation in the Crypt’s bathroom, Ankh returning with Tom and the shower massage.

Growth of the Doctor

I really enjoyed this book. I have not read the 2 previous books. I received this book for free and when reading the epilogue it said that it could be read as a stand alone. I am not sorry that I read it without reading the others first however, I will being reading the others because you get a deeper insight to the characters. Kismet is involved with the most powerful vampire. She has a special knack for working with the undead. I love Victoria. She is a good friend, a good witch, funny and loyal. There is a lot of evil and blood throughout this book but it is well placed to make the story come together. Kismet is growing throughout this book and I am sure she will continue to grow as a person and with her abilities. I am not looking forward to evil returning but if compared to life there is evil all around us.

Psychology at its best

This is definitely more mental than physical. We get the villains (Hallow!!?!) and then the heroine (Knight). She is unexpected and is to much introverted even when she tries not to be. I wish she would get over herself already and move on. She is making the same mistakes over and over. She is a psychologist and yet doesn't do anything in her personal life it's just stagnant. She uses fear to push any help away. Hallow preys on her ignorance in the supernatural lifestyle. He manipulates her and I think that is hysterical because again she is a psychologist. I wonder what will happen next.

I downloaded Crimson Psyche as a free book from Amazon. I loved this author's writing style, and the Kismet character was excellent. I've not read any books from the series, but I was able to follow the action and storyline easily. It started to break down for me as I got deeper into the book, without any real character development )or common sense in some cases). The villains were pretty obvious, so I spent part of the book thinking Kismet was a dope. I'm glad I bypassed the other books in the series- this was a good read, but one was enough for me.

Crimson Psyche Review

Very good book with all the scary bad guys and sexy vampires you could ask for. And with its strong female lead it reminded me of a cross between the Anita Blake and Night Huntress series which happen to be a few of my favorites. I was also very pleasantly surprised that I was able to jump into this book and follow along without any confusion or feeling like I was missing something from the first two books in the series. I am definitely interested in checking out more from this author and in my opinion Crimson Psyche is recommended.

Psychology AND vampires? Yes please.

I'm going to review this book as soon as possible, but, I loved the concept so much that I'm choosing to read the first two books... first! I hope you don't mind, Lynda, but I'm very excited for this series and didn't want spoilers by reading this book before the others.

This was even better than book 2 - very interesting to watch the MC fall apart mentally. It seemed very realistic, actually. A new big bad guy, and lots more delving into the character's metaphysical side. I was glad to see her stop cringing away from exploring what she can really do. Admittedly the BD thing was a little predictable, lol.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I read these books for the lols. In fact I'm not sure why anyone would read it for any other reason. Opening chapter and Lynda, you have not let me down. It's just plain fun, in that trashy kind of way.
