tbh i have barely any thoughts on this. it was just boring and I really don’t know why this one was made into a graphic novel when it was basically the same story as one of the other graphic novel collections before. could’ve gone without it.

Honestly pretty disappointing. It still looks great but it feels so abridged. There's 3 different short stories here, but we really only get snap-shots of each. Probably better as a companion to the stories than a stand-alone book.

"I will never be human... I will never know peace... I am nothing but an empty vessel on the seas of fate... and I leave in my wake nothing but blood and howling souls." - Elric

Elric may seem at a depressing standstill but he has much on his plate, from obtaining Peace from the Dead God's Book to a haunting reminder of the souls that scream from beyond the edge of his sword, manifested in the form of a vampiric daughter of chaos. Peace never seemed so fleeting. On top of that, a new companion talks a lot, and the Queen of Jharkor wants Elric back in Dhakos, just as a shifting citadel looms in a dooming manner. Yet, the law of Chaos must never be thrown into a chaotic state by those who are unworthy of such confusion.

Blondel's Elric series has been a good run for me, and the art has been great. This volume didn't go much into necromancy but you could definitely gather the macabre utilage of the blood-lusting sword as well as the implication that Elric is a sorcerer desired.

Final score 3.5

Despite having a new primary artist, the general aesthetic and quality of the art remains great as ever in this adaptation.

I have to admit I didn’t fully realize this volume pulls from three different stories until I was looking at reviews after reading, as it’s been a couple years since I read these stories now, and not everything in Moorcock’s stories is super memorable. I do think this volume would have been improved by including a few more issues to cover some of what’s here, as it’s a volume comprised of only two comic books, but at the same time, I remember Sailor on the Seas of Fate feeling somewhat unadaptable, as are a number of the Elric stories.

Because it is so short, it’s a very quick read and I can’t help wishing there was a bit more here. Also not really sure if I loved the new addition of Stormbringer appearing to Elric as a hot woman. If this was the original version of things I would be fine with it, but I honestly think a living/possessed sword is a more interesting and unique concept even all these years after Moorcock originally wrote this stuff. The book didn’t really need an extra sexy lady as it already has him journeying to answer a call for help from Queen Yishana.

All in all, I think this is probably the weakest volume of these adaptations, but I did still enjoy my brief time with it. Would be interested in seeing more of these, but I suspect the creators may have realized they were running out of adaptable Elric stories by the time they did this oddly abridged story.

Following the destruction of Imrryr, the Dreaming City of the Melnibonéan empire, in the previous volume of this French comics adaptation written by Julien Blondel and (since the second album) co-written by Jean-Luc Cano, Elric now finds himself in the young kingdoms, dealing with the loss of Cymoril and his empire, and with his dependency on Stormbringer, the black runesword that here manifests itself to Elric as a beautiful if bloodthirsty woman attempting to seduce him. The art duties have now fallen on newcomer (at least to this series), Valentin Sécher, who does an excellent job continuing the dark visual paradigm that the series has established.

The volume adapts Moorcock's story "The Singing Citadel", in which Queen Yishana of Jharkor seeks out Elric to ask his aid in handling a mysterious tower, a manifestation of Chaos in her land. It also introduces Elric's nemesis, Theleb-K'aarna, as well as his steadfast companion, Moonglum of Elwher. The volume also hints at the continuing narrative dealing with Tanelorn (with a brief glimpse of Rackhir the Red Archer).

All in all, I am still very entertained by this adaptation and look forward to reading further volumes still by Blondel and his compatriots.

Beautiful new volume in Titan Comics series.

Elric is struggling with his dependence on the Stormbringer - weapon he cannot live without but also weapon that takes life from everything and everyone Elric cherishes. Only way forward for him is way of the White Wolf, solitary mercenary, trying to find some peace on this world.

His wanderings will earn him a new friend, Moonglum, and find him in strange kingdom where Arioch's machinations have brought terrible wandering tower that needs to be stopped.

I have to admit I do not remember Pan Tangian sorcerer from this story, he seems destined to play greater part in future volumes, acting very like Conan's arch-enemies Thulsa Doom or Thoth Amon.

Art is gorgeous - starting from cover to fantastic Chaos infused tower and beautiful point of view panoramas (just look at the last page and mysterious horseman following our hero). Coloring, lines ....... gorgeous! I will never get enough of this series!

Highly recommended.

I really do enjoy these, for what they are. They kind of boil down the very essential story points from the novels into a brief burst of art, storytelling and character traits, well, about what you can achieve in 62 pages, lol. This one brings in three of the big characters that appear in many of the tales: Moonglum of Elwher, the vile Theleb K'aarna, sorceror of Pan Tang and seemingly eternal nemesis of Elric, and Queen Yishana of Jharkor. It's really just neat to see the artist's interpretation of the characters I came to know over the course of 8 books. The only problem now is that I believe I've caught up with what's published and now have to wait and see if they ever publish more *sad face*. OH WELL.

I'm so glad I finished The Weird of the White Wolf before finally getting rhis in the mail (I had to order it twice, the first got lost in the mail... thanks, USPS). While the adaptation leaves a bit of it out, it still would have spoiled major beats had I not.

Blondel and Co. do an amazing job of bringing the albino emperor into vivid and brutal colour like no one else. This comic adaptation more than most others makes me pine for a film or TV adaptation. If done correctly, this would be a proper heir to the hole that GoT left (when it was good anyway) and perhaps surpass it in some regards, seeing as it has an ending to the original saga at least. If you can get a hold of the previous 4, this is a good place to start your Elric journey before hopping into the novels.

This is the usual beautiful production and hints at a lot more to come as Elric wanders among the humans having adventures. It’s an adaptation that is darker and sexier than the novels, which is good, but also condenses them, which is not so good. It is undoubtedly my favourite graphic version and I hope there’s many more.
