Just stop writing unnecessary books and give us the next two actual books and fucking end the series?? How much more are you gonna milk it *sighs* I just want to know how it ends and she ends each book on such bad cliffhangers that you have to read the next one.

Two cash grabs in a row

Either she doesn’t know what comes next in the main plot and she’s stalling or she’s really milking it at this point

Regardless it’s overdone, a lot of people are ready for the main plot to come back now

Update: The more I think about it and talk about it (Hi Nat ❤️) the more issues I have with this book.

I’ll add another one of my issues that plagues me since reading this: Willa herself. Her act of voyeurism bordered concerning and I do not think certain characters would appreciate knowing they were being watched especially considering their past about consent.

Original review:

This is basically a nice way to recap everything that has happened in the FBAA and/or F&F books. It gives you a nice rundown of everything you need to know in case you do not want to reread the series before a new book comes out or you are just in the mood.

We got a nice comprehensive breakdown of things and some of them I had even forgotten about so it helped remind me of some important moments.

You will also get a few Willa entries from her journals and it's about her dalliances with some people we have heard about or know from the books.

Besides that, we get two bonus scenes, one from FBAA and one from F&F.

The one from F&F is a Nyktos POV from book 2 when Sera and him are in the pools under the castle and she submits to him. Such a great scene and I loved seeing his POV during this important moment.

Now, despite the things I liked and enjoyed there were things that I was either disappointed about or confused.

1) We did not get any character descriptions of section on either Malec or Ires which seemed so odd to me? We could have gotten the bare minimum info like we had for SO many other characters, but it just seemed like a weird thing to leave out as these two are so important to the story and the world so far.

2) The art could have been better. There were a few that were amazing but in reality I expected better? I have seen so many beautiful fanart pieces that would have worked wonderfully but it felt like a missed opportunity? I know I will get hate for this but I just had a different idea BUT I will say most of the characters look like how I imagined them, and they stayed true to what we all have known but it just felt not too polished?

3) Willa being creepy and watching so many characters in her visions have sex was a bit too much? Especially when you find out who she has been with in the past. It felt odd during some moments. Though I will give her a pass when she talks about Nyktos and admits he is perfect and how Sera is lucky to have him...because I feel the same.

4) I think this book would have been perfect AFTER both series were finished. It would have made so much more sense since we would have so much more information come to light in the final books that will be missing from this compendium. It just makes little sense to have released it when it’s still not over. It will be incomplete at the end of the series which seems like another missed opportunity for a great true ''bible''.

This book, however, does not move the storylines along so do not expect anything revealed here about the future. Willa lets us know over and over again that she is only writing what she has seen or happened SO FAR.

With one final scandalous lick, he raised his head, a knowing smirk on his face, and then told me I was delicious as he took my lips in a searing kiss so I could taste for myself.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐,5

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I don't have much to say about this one really. It is an exceptionally thorough companion to both the Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire series as told by everyone's favorite horny lady, Willa Collins. It's basically a fictional history book with a bunch of sex. It ain't half bad, to be honest.

I admit that it's a bit dull at times. Willa gives a complete synopsis of all the books in both the OG series with Poppy and Casteel and the prequels with Sera and Nyktos. Not only that but each synopsis is based on each individual character (not just the protagonists), meaning she goes through each book again and again. She also provides detailed explanations of all the places, groups, species, and everything else in this world. It gets pretty tiring after a while, although it's an effective way of catching up on all the books if you don't have time to read them all individually. Willa makes some pretty funny commentary too.

In any case, there are plenty of fun aspects in this book as well. Willa's journal entries are even hornier than those Poppy and Casteel have read. I had a blast reading them. They're so good. Some of them were delightfully shocking too. I would honestly tell you to read this for those entries alone. She gets freaky with many interesting characters, some of whom we already know. 👀 Also, she is interested in doing the horizontal tango with some faves. I'm not going to lie, I found that intriguing. Other than living vicariously through Willa, there are a few bonus scenes, both from Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire and some are spicy too. There's also plenty of fanart which, if you have the ebook, you can have it in color as it's not colored in the hard copy. You can even save each piece on your device by clicking their links. Aside from that, this book has some cute lists of all the most notable quotes from the entire series and playlists for each book.

Is this book a necessity in this series? Not really. It hints at a few things coming in the following books. It confirms a few things as well. However, I doubt it's anything that you would need to understand the stories to come. You could just get this for the bonus content, the journal entries, and the like. I hardly think it's any different from buying special editions for just this reason. It's all up to you. Personally, I do not regret buying this. As boring as it was at times, I had a lot of fun reading it too.

I finally did it!

1.5 stars

** My low rating is not because this is a plot-less book, I knew what I was getting into when I picked it up, it is simply because I found it to be very long and it didn't brought much new information on the series or characters, despite being over 800 pages.

I will keep this review short. Here's what you need to know:

- This book is NOT the continuation of the plot.

- Is it a helpful book? Meh. If you remember what happened in the series, this book mostly repeats and synthetized everything that was explained in the FBAA and ASITE series. Honestly, I skimmed a lot of parts.

- Is it worth the price it cost me? I don't think so.

- Is it absolutely necessary to read this book before continuing with this series? No. It is not. Unless you have a few extra hours and have absolutely nothing better to do.

- It can be a used as a recap if you don't feel like rereading the whole series besofre the release of the 6th book, because it presents and describes every important character in the series, what they look like, what they are like, and what happened to them so far in the series.

- It is 800 pages of info-dump on the characters, history of the land, magical creatures and everything else relevant to the series' world building, but it can be pretty repetitive if you've just read the series and remember most of it.

I never thought i will leave only two stars for a Flesh and fire book and yet ....
I was so disappointed because I was expecting to learn a lot of things about the world ...I learned nothing new , other than the two bonus scenes , there was nothing new.
Since I am a huge fan of these series I reread the books at any chance I get, so I know litteraly everything about the world. This book just rephrased the other books, resumed/ repeated some stuff . I am so disappointed 😭😭😭 I want my money back.
I wanted to read Valyn and Eloan's story so bad, like who was Valyn before becoming king? how did he fall in love with Eloana? I wantd to read scenes about CAS and Kieran, stories about their childhood, before everything. Scenes from other character's POV. I wanted to read about Malec and Iris, who were they before the ascendants, what were Malec's motives etc. I was expecting soo many things. I don't even recognise JL's writing in this one. There were so may repeated stuff, it got on my last nerves. There was so man useless chapters. The only this that kep me interested were the bonus scenes and Emil's letter.
Anyway, i am still heartbroken about this book. I really had high hopes about this one.

So we get a Casteel recap book, now a compendium recap from Willa. In a row. What complete bullshit. This was boring and pointless. Only reason I even picked it up is because I preordered it without even really knowing what it was, now I can’t return it. Oh well.

Visions of Flesh and Blood
⭐️⭐️⭐️

The exclusive scenes carried🤝🏼. Apart from that, I wasn’t really interested in this compendium. I know it’s not a continuation of the series and therefore not necessary to read, so I just read the parts that interested me. Overall a solid addition to the series if you’re into a more in-depth explanation of the world-building/characters.

But, after seeing the prices it feels a little bit like a money grab🤏🏼, as it’s basically a rewritten version of her “Bible” where she keeps track of everything for the series.

Pls someone tell me if it’s worth it😀

***4.5/5 Stars***

Visions of Flesh and Blood was a comprehensive guide of the Blood and Ash Series and Fire and Flesh Series so far.  If you’re needing a refresher, or have questions about this series, this is the perfect place to look!  And just know that while this doesn’t further either of the timelines, it does give us beautiful artwork, bonus scenes from both worlds, excerpts from Miss Willa’s Diary, and so much more!
Cue gasps. I mean, I knew this, but can you imagine what it was like for her to discover that little tidbit?

Starting out, one of the things that made me scream was a reference to another series!  A Fire in the Flesh gave us all the hints, and then this book left so many little easter eggs in the pages for Fall of Ruin and Wrath And I’m excited to see how it all plays out!
Loves to hear himself talk. Driven. Takes pleasure in killing when it’s warranted. Loves to read. Feels spousal needs should come before those of the kingdom. Knows how to braid hair. Expert with many weapons.

This book gave us not only the history of the worlds, but details about what each of the characters had gone through up until this point.  It was emotional seeing how much they had endured!  You’ll get to read about all of your favorite Blood and Ash characters, along with Flesh and Fire characters too.  But keep in mind that those moments were written by Rayvn Salvador. There were so many things that I had forgotten, like why the dragon’s eye color changed over time.  Or the different kinds of Ascensions.  It was all spelled out clearly. I also loved how within the characters, there were a few new things we learned.  Like how emotions taste to Poppy.  I loved approval!  Or the amount of times we got to watch Callum die, I couldn’t stop laughing.  We also got info on what their personalities were like.  And you know who my favorite character summary was?  Isbeth.  I am beyond shocked!
I want you. Today. Tonight. Tomorrow. I want to see what the future has in store for us.

The artwork was stunning!  My absolute favorites were The Blood Forrest, Seraphena “Sera” Mierel, Vonetta Contou, and Jasper and Kirha Contou.  I wanted to lick Jasper lol.  And a heads up to ereaders, I read on my Kindle Fire and while the picture was small, there was a ‘click here’ button that allowed us to see the images full-size in a browser.  And they’re all in color!  But just know that for paperback and hardback, they are still gorgeous, but in black and white.
Personality: No one knows if she likes them or is seconds away from setting them on fire.

The bonus scenes that were written by JLA were phenomenal!  We got a new scene of Poppy and Cas, that made my heart so happy!  We got multiple Diary Entries from Miss Willa!  Those were scorching hot!  AND I was shocked, and am still shocked, who two of those entries were with!  The interview with Kieran had me screaming with laughter!  If I had to pick one thing in this book I loved the most, that was it!  But then there was Emil.  And Netta.  And Tawny.  Ash.  And soooo much more!  The extras in this book were astonishing and worth all the stars!
“You are always safe with me, liessa,” I promised.
That was an oath I’d never break.
Because she trusted me.
And that was a gift. One I would cherish and protect.

Included in this Compendium was the Prophecy broken down.  I desperately needed that!  Favorite quotes from every single book.  The playlists were emotional and I loved that some of the songs I was thinking about, when reading, were in the list!  And more!  And I highly recommend that you pick up this book in pieces.  Not to read it from front to back like I did.  I would have read all the bonus scenes, looked at all the pictures, looked at different special content.  And then read the character profiles that I needed refreshers on.  So happy reading!  And I can’t wait to see what happens next in this world!

It has been 2 years since War of Two Queens, and she has released 2 more books.
Both books are retellings of past events without completing Poppy’s story, and I am pretty frustrated.
Book 5 was an annoyance, but book 6 kind of feels like a slap to the face.
It seems ridiculous to have us wait up to 3 years to continue Poppy’s story.
At this point it seems like she is just stringing us along for money purposes.

The main problem I had with VOFAB was the repetition.

Review
Visions of Flesh and Blood gives the reader an in-depth overview of the Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire world, complete with name pronunciations, place names, the different orders of species and their histories, character profiles, their portraits and a plethora of information that will be essential reading for fans of this series. There are also a few bonus scenes that were not included in previous books that the reader can enjoy while we are waiting for the next release.

What I didn't Like

Art Work
I will be honest and say that I was not impressed with the calibre of art work that was included in the book. I found that a lot of the portraits lacked definition in areas other than the face and it made the overall image unfinished and sloppy.

There are plenty of artists out there that have shared some incredible artwork of the characters through the years that would have been better placed in this compendium than what we were given.

This is just my personal opinion of course, but I do think that Vikter was not drawn as described in the books at all, nor were some of the other characters. I understand that this will be subjective to some, but when an artist ignores the author's description of a character, what is the point?

Black and White Artwork
I was also disappointed to find out that the physical copies of this book will be in black and white. Now, I have bought book bibles like this before over the years and they have always been these big, colourful tomes that I have absolutely adored.

I thought we would be getting something similar here, but JLA has stated that the costs associated with this would be astronomical... I think if it couldn't be done right, then it shouldn't have been done at all. JLA could have released something smaller just for fans to refer to like a digital file to download with all the information instead of this semi story like book with poor imitation artwork.

Willa's Narration
I was not a fan of Miss Willa perving on PoppyCas sexy times as it just seemed really fucking invasive. The commentary about wanting to join Cas and Kieran for the joining and then after she witnessed them during the joining, in a private and vulnerable scene, she immediately goes to see one of her "paramours" to slake her hunger. It was too much and really off-putting to read!

But no, the weirdness continues when we find out which "King" Willa slept with. It was none other than King Elian Da'Neer, Casteel's great-grandfather. Willa clearly had no qualms perving on the great-grandson of the man she had a 3 day fling with. It was simply too cringe to read, so I did my best to skim it...

I wasn't interested in reading about Vikter giving Willa a good time tbh... I can't see him as anything other than Poppy's father figure.

Willa really gets around. That's the main take away I got from this book. The fates lead her to significant people throughout history to... fuck, basically. Idk it didn't make sense to me or the overall story that was being weaved in between the facts of the world.

Repetition
The repetition on character profiles throughout the book was not needed and further added to the unnecessary page count. There was an awful lot of regurgitated information for each character in this. Example: For each character profile, you will read the same scenes over and over as they all relate to Poppy, albeit from the character's POV which would lead one to think there would be new information from their side but there is not, it is all from the books we have read already. It was an exercise in page filling, nothing else. If I read Alastair Davenwell's character profile once, I read it at least 4 times in this book!

Verdict: I think the "Compendium" should have been released after the series ended and been given the time and investment it deserved to give the fans something special. Instead, JLA produced a filler-type storybook that focused more on Willa's sexual escapades, her thoughts on events in the world (that did not give us new info) and unnecessarily long and extremely repetitive scenes littered throughout the book. The artwork was of a questionable standard for a book like this and I am glad I didn't pay for the physical copy. This book only garnered 2 stars from me in the end.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I skimmed through about 70% of this, desperately hoping for something worthwhile. All I wanted was more about Malik and Milicent, Malec and Iris’s past, and the stories of Nektas, Reaver, and Jadis. Instead, we got a rehash of old info with three bonus scenes and Emil’s letter as the only highlights. 😩📉

The book is a cash grab—filled with repetitive content and a lot of filler. The artwork was mediocre, and the character profiles just recycled scenes we already knew. I was craving fresh insights and exciting details, but all I got was a frustrating recap. 😖

And just to be clear, this is the last book I’m reading by this author.

DNF. Closed at 32 %.
I knew this will be some summary of previous books, AND we will have Miss Willa diary, and Kieran's interview.
Well, the summary is exactly that. I think I haven't found anything new there. Just a few comments from Miss Willa (not even funny).
If you purchased an ebook, find a magnifying glass, because the interview with Kieran was edited as a newspaper, and it was not possible to make it bigger. If you have even slight problem with your eyesight, you won't be able to read it.
Records from Miss Willa books? Meh. Definitely not what I pictured when it was mentioned througouth the whole series.

I love this series, but this was such a disappointment.
Wanted a refund but Amazon denied it. Probably skipped too far, and now they think I read most of the book.

This honestly just felt like a book to clear up the parts that were not super clear in the previous 5 books...

I honestly would have appreciated this more at the end of both series'.

Was disappointed with the bonus chapters/scenes as well. I thought Willa would be a lot more interesting and this seemed tame. It doesn't have the same impact when you barely know the characters.

Do not read this unless you’re going to do the audiobook. If you are having trouble getting thru visions please pick up the audiobook, it was such a better experience. I am so glad I have the book, to support all the amazing artists that JLA and her team hired to be apart of this. This is an incredible reference to have if needed but also just as a fan of FBAA & F&F.

There are some important break downs that I recommend reading. The prophecy is broken down and literally tell us what means what for what we know at this present time. The bonus chapters for certain scenes were incredible and of course the few Willa journal entrees were delicious and I’m still kicking my feet about a certain one LOLOL I don’t wanna give it away but I see that person in a whole new light hahahaha.

There are also certain things that are confirmed that I wasn’t 100% sure.

I listened to this audiobook mostly when I got ready in the mornings for work or on the drive to work if I wasn’t in the mood for music.

I rated this 5 stars because of my love for these series and if you are a die hard fan and were struggling now you know the best way to consume it 😗😗😗

I enjoyed this book for what it is: a compendium. I think if you go into it hoping for a new addition to the series, it'll be more disappointing and boring. But overall, I'm really happy this exists because, with a series as long as Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire, it's really easy to forget terminology, plot points, character arcs, etc. This book is a perfect refresher and the images and bonus chapters from Willa are a great addition.

The first bit definitely reads like a dictionary because it's defining all of the different terminology. I started to enjoy it more when it moved towards the character breakdowns. Again, I really liked the pictures, and I liked going back and remembering each character's storyline from the first to last book. Honestly, it made me want to do a reread, and I ended up pulling out the books to look at certain favorite chapters again. So, in a way, it kind of reignited my interest and excitement for the two series. It's definitely VERY repetitive, sometimes repeating sentences word for word, but I think this is to be expected from a compendium.

Overall, I think this book was and will be really helpful to have and look back at as the last two books come out.
