Extremely upset when her parents give her a stuffed dog named Harry instead of a real dog, little Lulu throws a fit, until Harry informs her that he is a real dog from France, and together they embark on a rollicking adventure of friendship.

His most recent picture book is Presto and Zesto in Limboland, illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Arthur Yorinks lives in Cambridge, New York.
One of my favorite books as a kid. I am now buying it for all of my older cousins kids. I love that Lulu isn't happy with a gift that will make her so happy later in the book. Also who doesn't love a good adventure with a dog.
This is one of those off-kilter stories that most of us don't get, and, if we're parents, we might not want to share with the kids. But kids do have temper tantrums, and dogs are loyal.... I'd like it better with a different illustrator, though. I wonder why Yorinks' most frequent collaborator, Egielski, didn't do this one.
I enjoyed the archived copy on openlibrary.org. Reading all they have, hoping to find something approaching the magic of Hey, Al.
Lulu wants a dog, but her parents say “No!” When they give her a stuffed animal, Lulu is not very appreciative. Little does she know that this is a very special stuffed dog who takes her on a trip to France.
