I love that you can find KJK Publishing’s long list of books on KU, and not only do they have tons of horror collections, there are themed anthologies as well (monsters, scifi, Christmas, vampire, etc).

These books have introduced me to many new authors, helped me find tales from writers I already enjoy reading, and generally lift me out of any reading slump I may find myself in. The variety and quality of stories are excellent.

The werewolf collection has a great group of writers that have contributed. Some of them actually have werewolf/creature books of their own (Candace Nola, Tim Curran, Graeme Reynolds) so they know the genre well 😆

These twisted tales are pretty extreme at some points, so be prepared for lots of viscera being flung about.

Bibliophilia Templum Review
https://bibliophiliatemplum.wordpress.com/2024/04/08/werewolves/

Werewolves, Book 2 of the Classic Monsters series from KJK Publishing, is an anthology of 8 werewolf stories from some of horror’s most impressive authors. These tales are very different from one another, exploring and depicting a variety of facets and perspectives of the classic legend of the werewolf.

“Elena” by Kevin J Kennedy is a wicked and nasty extreme horror werewolf story that Tarantino himself would be impressed with. Beware of explicit sex, violence, characters, and a great story.

“Last Dance” by Tom Deady is a more serious tale dealing with the struggles of adolescence, bullying, and knowing oneself; it’s an intense and impactful story that is among my favorites herein.

“Inherent” by Candace Nola is a vivid and flowing story of nightmares and family secrets and blood.

“Beware the Moon,” a High Moor Story from Graeme Reynolds, is a riveting and suspenseful tale of terror about a woman trapped on a mountain in Italy and being stalked by a mysterious howling creature.

“Rug” by Graham Masterson is a dark and disturbing story of the German legend of the Wolfshaut, told only as Masterson can.

“Harry’s Inevitable Extinction” by Glenn Rolfe is a thriller about a private detective hired to investigate a gruesome murder and the horrors he uncovers.

“Wetware” by Tim Curran is a grisly and relentless story of violence and death in the wake of a military project gone bad; this is an excellent werewolf take on a fun horror trope.

“Almost Never” by the legendary Edward Lee himself is an evocative and compelling tale of human monsters and a sweet little girl, told in a pseudo fairytale meter and style; but in true Ed Lee fashion, the story takes a horrifying twist.

I really enjoyed this anthology. Werewolves is a highly recommended must-read for not only werewolf aficionados but all horror fans who love dark suspense and terror.

“Frustration. Fear. Anxiety. Tension,” These four words sum up this collection perfectly. Werewolves is another great classic monster collection by KJK Publishing. The lineup in this book was great and the authors each put their own unique touch on their story. From something as harmless as a rug all the way to some creepy stalker guys getting what they deserve. Werewolf lovers are bound to find something in this book that they enjoy. The standouts for me were Last Dance by Tom Deady, Inherent by Candace Nola, Rug by Graham Masterton, Wetware by Tim Curran, and Almost Never by Edward Lee.

If you’re a fan of werewolves and want a quick and bloody read, add this to your list. KJK Publishing never disappoints in their story collections and I hope there will be more classic monsters in the future.

Werewolves (Classic Monsters Book 2) presented by KJK Publishing is an anthology that brings dark and fresh takes on the good ol’ werewolf that readers will want to sink their teeth into right away!

My favorites from the collection include:
Rug by Graham Masterton
“Harry’s Inevitable Extinction” by Glenn Rolfe
Almost Never by Edward Lee

I had such a blast reading these tales! I love werewolves. The whole idea of the monster itself absolutely terrifies me… the lack of control, the body horror, the speed, the teeth! And phew, this collection only added to that fear!

I'm telling you right now folks this book is an awesome read. Each story has it's own epic scene which sticks with you after reading. This book has it all, Anything from Late night love to Bone tearing revenge. I enjoyed this book so much that I'm reading again while typing this review. This is the type of book you can't put down. This book is fun and at moments makes your hair stand up. Thanks again Kevin J Kennedy and all other writers for this epic book you have made.

“Elena” by Kevin Kennedy - this opening story was so poorly done (it felt like a 13 yr old telling his friends a randy drug-infused werewolf story ‘round the fire, but poorly). Bad enough that I investigated trying to return the book.

“Last Dance” by Tom Deady - great story. Adolescent kid, bullied regularly, discovers he’s a loup garou, but the change can be controlled. Invites his dream girl to a dance, and things go…awry.

“Inherent” by Candace Nola - nightmares lead to a young woman on a trek of self-discovery, and reveals a family history she’d rather be ignorant to…

“Beware The Moon (A High Moor story)” by Graeme Reynolds - the origin story of Connie from the High Moor trilogy. Brief but exciting in its execution.

“Rug” by Graham Masterton - a story involving a young boy discovering secrets in the town of his hosts and the in the fur pelt of an old wolf rug. My first Masterton, and I hope not my last.

“Harry’s Inevitable Extinction” by Glenn Rolfe - a man returns to the scene of the murder of his client’s daughter and things go south quickly.

“Wetware” by Tim Curran - a squad of soldiers run across an enemy they have no experience with and it goes Whiskey Tango Foxtrot quickly. Years later hunter and hunted will share the other’s role.

“Almost Never” by Edward Lee - a couple of gangsters looking to kidnap and traffick a young girl for their mafia boss. But in that backwoods cabin, it’s not Grandma that’s got the big teeth.

The standouts were Wetware and Rug. The others, barring the intro tale were good as well. A good read for werewolf fans.

I love wolves and when it comes to folklore, I love werewolves, so when I saw the lineup of authors for this collection, I can’t deny my tail was wagging so wildly!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Rain Corbyn and it was a great experience, I was especially impressed by the different accents!

Each story is brutal and it doesn’t hold back on violence showing the true nature of werewolves, with their killing instincts! This is a solid collection from very talented authors, and I was glad to find all the elements of old school werewolves, topped up by entertaining storytelling.

If you want to experience some true bloodthirsty werewolves that don’t look twice when a prey is on offer, this collection is a good one!

Thanks to the author for the audiobook and this is my honest opinion.

Full moon horror at its best

Kevin J. Kennedy will have you howl at the moon when reading the eight terrifying takes in this werewolf collection.  Joined by some of the greatest authors in horror, you will experience lycanthropy as never before.

What would you do if you found out that you were a werewolf? You've  never been bitten or cursed, so how can this be?
In the stories Last Dance and Inherent, you will see how these protagonists deal with it.

Looking for sex? Be careful that your partner isn't a werewolf in Elena.

When confronted by a werewolf, your savior just might be another werewolf, in Beware the Moon: A High Moor Story.

A wolf rug is more than meets the eye in Rug.

When on the trail of a killer, make sure he is human in Harry's Inevitable Extinction.

The government creates werewolves, and it is up to a species ops team to hunt them down in Wetware.

When two human traffickers attempt to abduct a young girl from her invalid grandfather, a night of terror follows, in Almost Never.

Freaky without a doubt

Definitely no happy endings for anyone except for the wolves. They were short and gruesome stories and no silver bullets available.

This is an excellent selection of werewolf tales. I listened to this on Audible, and the narrator, Rain Corbyn, does a great job of bringing these tales to life in a different way. Kevin J. Kennedy gave me a code for an honest review. It opens with a bang with a story by Kevin J. Kennedy. It is filled with sex, gore, and feminist werewolves. Werewolves have been used many times as coming-of-age tales.

I really enjoyed Last Dance by Tom Deady because it used a different type of werewolf, the Lougarou. These beasts originate from Cajun and Creole myths. He touches on all of the things and emotions that teens go through and is very relatable. I also liked that he created a unique world and rules for the Lougarou transformation process.

They’ve also been used as symbols for familial secrets and guilt. Inherent by Candace Nola does this beautifully and viscerally.

It ends with Almost Never by Edward Lee. It begins as a crime against a young girl and her grandfather but soon evolves into something else. The twist was pretty good. There are so many great stories in here, with many different takes on werewolves. Many of them feature werewolves from other cultures and countries, which makes it interesting. I highly recommend this anthology in both audio and physical forms.

These were good solid werewolf stories. They were gross and terrible in a way that sometimes you really just need to feel in a were story, not all fun puppies and cute transitions.

My top pick was proably Almost Never.
I like the whole home invasion set up and this one was fucked up. I have a huge thing for the evil in humans, expecially when it revolves around actual supernatual shit going on , and the humans are still the fucked up ones, so this hit well for me.

My second pick was probably Elena, it was extreme right out of the gate for me, and I knew this whole line up, was not going to dissapoint.

All of these were well worth the read, and if you want some bad ass werewolf action, this is the ticket for you.

Wow

Okay the second one was straight up crazy talking about wolves that were people that were experimented on a special ops and turned into wolf like creatures and then the last one they were going to take this little girl and give her to a p*** company and found out that her and her grandfather werewolves I'm going to tell you what I was impressed

Great short stories. Each one better than the last. Hard to put down till you finish. Usually not a fan of short stories. Very little character development or story line. But, each of these is well written and delivers a great story

'Werewolves' is the second entry in Kevin Kennedy's Classic Monsters anthology series, after the excellent and recently published 'Vampires.' Eight stories of varying in quality and theme, all around the werewolf. None too gory, none too extreme. I confess, however, I did not enjoy 'Werewolves' as much as 'Vampires,' mostly becuase I felt nothing new was added to the mythology of the werewolf: the greatest number of stories by far rely on established lore and utilize familiar ideas. However, three of the stories are worth the price of the book alone, and I wholeheartedly recommend them: above all, Ed Lee's story, "Almost Never," a home invasion story with a nice twist, then Kevin Kennedy's "Elena," a sex-fuelled nasty short with terrific pace and a great ending, a story I'd read before in the author's awesome solo collection "A to Z of Horror," and Tim Curran's "Wetware," a sharp, bloody, horrific, breath of fresh air.

Kevin J. Kennedy is an author/editor I've never heard of before. I have noticed he's brought together a lot of horror authors throughout the years to help write horror anthologies, however, which is really cool. Werewolves intrigued me immediately, not just because one of the stories was written by Edward Lee, but also because the idea of a whole short story collection being about werewolves is a fun idea.

Elena:
Elena and her husband are touring the highlands and having a great time. However, after a little makeout session, they discover a mysterious pub nearby that they swear hadn't been there before. Hoping for a good time they have a couple of pints, but on their way out they take a young barmaid with them. But something is off about Isla and Elena is about to discover what secret she's hiding.

I'm sad to admit this but I didn't much care for this story. On paper, it's an okay idea with an interesting enough mystery, but the interesting elements are put aside for some pretty dull sex scenes and poorly written-characters. I didn't enjoy this one and it most certainly didn't unnerve me by any stretch of the imagination. The ending could have worked if the story had been expanded upon and improved, but it didn't click for me. 2/10

Last Dance:
Arnold has always had his struggles, just like any other normal kid, but for some reason, his parents have been worried about him recently and he doesn't know why. After getting in a fight with a school bully called Derek it doesn't take long for Arnold to learn the truth behind his ancestors and the curse passed down to him. Now with the school dance coming up and Arnold having fallen in love with a girl, it seems things might be shaping up for the better, but Derek is out for revenge

Tom Deady has written a fun coming-of-age werewolf story that deals with the common struggles of a teenager's life and the changes that come with puberty. It's a tense little story with romance, bullying, loving parents, and a gruesome but satisfying finale. 8/10

Inherent:
Anya has been having terrible nightmares of a creature attacking her, she wakes up each night finding she's clawed her neck to the point of shredding it. Wendy is getting worried about her, it seems to find the solution to their problem they'll have to visit Anya's grandmother. But Nana has a terrifying truth to reveal to her granddaughter which will change her life forever.

Candace Nola has written a very atmospheric and haunting story of a woman in her 30s who's slowly becoming a creature of the night. It's a creepy and suspenseful tale with a truly horrifying ending. 10/10

Beware The Moon:
Connie and her boyfriend Steve have gone into the mountains for a holiday in Italy, however, when she hurts her ankle Steve hurries off to find help. But he's been gone for hours and it's getting dark. Connie is alone but as the mountain falls silent, a howling can be heard in the distance. She has to fight for her life.

Graeme Reynolds has written an atmospheric, intense, and tragic werewolf story that ends on a rather depressing note. It is a creepy, violent, and sad short story that will make your heart ache for the protagonist. 8/10

Rug:
After his parents have split up, John has to stay with another family for the time being, however, when he discovers the rug of what appears to be a large wolf in the attic, it isn't long before he uncovers a dark history behind the house he's living in.

Graham Masterton is an author I've heard a lot about, but admittedly haven't read from before, so this is a first for me. He's written an incredible werewolf story that looks at their mythology in a very different light with gruesome violent imagery and a very tragic conclusion. 10/10

Harry's Inevitable Extinction:
Harry has been hired to find and slay a serial killer who might be a werewolf. Harry doubts that but takes the job anyway, but he might soon regret it.

Glenn Rolfe has written an atmospheric and nasty werewolf story about a particularly violent and evil werewolf that gets a sick thrill out of killing people and taking away their innocence. It's a story with some particularly sick imagery and a bleak finale. 9/10

Wetware:
Wolf-13 is a scientific project that should never have happened and now the remaining scientifically produced werewolves are being hunted down one by one by the CIA. But the most dangerous one still lurks and it'll take everything to take it down.

Tim Curran has written an incredible short story about a werewolf's genes being taken and reproduced to turn people into potential soldiers. It's a dark story with a nice blend of science and the supernatural. It's a very gruesome and violent tale with plenty of bodies being torn apart and lives destroyed. It's the longest short story in this collection but funnily enough, it went by like a breeze, brilliant stuff! 10/10

Almost Never:
Katie is a young girl who makes daily trips to the shops for her granddad, however, two very suspicious men have started to follow her. Rocco hates working for the Vinchetti Family who produce some of the most disgusting child pornography in the underground market and he wants out. But he has one more job to do before he can truly escape, unfortunately for him and his 'friend' there's a surprise waiting for them.

Edward Lee has written a brilliant short story that concludes this anthology with a bang. In one way it's a sweet story of a young girl and her grandfather who look after each other, but on the other hand, it's a terrifying story about child kidnapping and molestation. It's a horrifying tale with a terrific twist and a satisfying finale. 10/10

Overall: It's a fantastic short story collection, I wasn't too keen on the first story, unfortunately, but the rest were solid. I want to try and read another one of Kevin J. Kennedy's anthologies now because this was a lot of fun. 67/80

This is a great selection of werewolf stories. The variety of authors brings different levels of horror and angst. All of the stories are unique with each of the authors voices.

There isn't a favorite for me, as I enjoyed every single story. Lots of gore, sex, blood, and not so happy endings.

I listened to the audio of this book, narrated by Rain Corbyn. I had not listened to any of Corbyn's narration before and I was surprised. I enjoyed the way he could give enough emotion to the story to pull you in. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more of his narrations.

Kevin J. Kennedy always publishes amazing anthologies. You gotta check out the big assortment of books he has.

I am always on the lookout for great werewolf tales and this collection really fit the bill! From the very first story to the last, you will encounter plenty of gore and gruesome werewolf encounters. A few of the stories involve great scenes of revenge against a villainous character, which always makes for a great tale. These creatures aren't your cartoon variety but are truly horrific and will live in your nightmares.

The narrator was perfect for this collection and really brought these stories to life. If you enjoy a good werewolf tale, you will love this collection!

If you love werewolves, most definitely pick this book up...there are so many good werewolf short stories packed in this book. I love that there are many different "versions" of werewolves included, as there are many different types of werewolf "legends" out there. I also loved that the baddies were victorious in a lot of these stories, no silver to be found when digesting these wolf tales.
