Very interesting read, interesting from the perspective of the time when it was published, with some interesting analysis of the connections between freedom, democracy, religion and the overall history of development of political systems.

Lord Acton is famous for one phrase: "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely." He deserves more and better attention. Here is the place to start.
