Emotional Damage: I can’t even right now like holy freaking spaceballs this was so damn good. I am so happy I happened across this. The morally grey mmc, the angst, the ReyLo vibes. True enemies to lovers (back to enemies👀) I was on edge from beginning to end. I couldn’t sleep and it’s 2 in the morning. I had to finish this. The cliffhanger?? Omygosh I need book two immediately. I am not only emotionally damaged I am emotionally wrecked 😩 how does one sleep after this?

Queue my next obsession. I need book 2 stat!!! This was immaculate. I would love a whole bookcase of books that remind me of ReyLo and this would be the staple. Milo was a Kylo. Hot as hell and greyyyy as well. We go through such a seemingly sweet story from the beginning and we our utterly ripped from it towards the end. As someone who saw some parallels to the ReyLo dynamic I foresaw some things coming but it only made me even more excited for it. But even the end still had me oh so shocked. Milo’s mother was not who I thought she was going to be.
I am too tired to make this review not sound insane and the butterflies in my tummy are going crazy. I will need to update this when I am of sound mind 😂

I picked this from my kindle at random and I'm so glad I did. I'm usually reading my physical books, either from my library or ones that I own, and I realized that I'm drowning in kindle ebooks, so I picked this up.
This was fast and fun. While amnesia stories aren't usually my jam, this was really well done and well written. I liked the characters. I liked the plot. I liked the tension. Best of all the slow burn romance.
Further review to come as I gather my thoughts, but this was excellent! 5 ⭐!

So. That was an interesting read. Never would've I guessed that this book has an element of darkness into it. As in, I can definitely say this is a dark sci-fi romance. Without spoiling too much, I would say someone who enjoyed Laura Thalassa's brand of antiheroes and antiheroines would enjoy this one.
And it surprised me to realise this is an old book (as in it was firstly published in 2022). Heard nothing of it and I'm glad that by giving ARCs out, it kinda give this book a second breath, and giving me a chance to discover this hidden gem!
What else can I say? Much of it is too spoilery and I can't ruin it for you guys.
One little critic though, I need more world building. Of the two planets. Heck, history of how things to become as it was wouldn't be wrong. I love world building and I demand them every time I started a new fantasy book.

I devoured this in a day (hours literally) this was incredibly well done and the TWISTS had me gasping like seriously still reeling from this and feeling weak in the knees ! This could be a favourite read ever! Without spoiling anything you can expect.. drama, tension, love, hate, betrayals *of epic proportions*, magic, heatttt, war and many more themes this truly has it all and was breathtakingly good!

I was sucked into the story of Lost Crows and Fallen Stars pretty quickly. Amnesia stories bring intrigue from the questions immediately thrust upon the character and the reader. Margot wakes up from what appears to have been an attack where she was tortured for information. She doesn't know who she is, but her lady's maid is brought to the hospital to help her figure out who she is. We learn that she's the Colum's wife (Colum = King).
Let's pause here and discuss this world. This is a science fiction story. The Colum, Milo, is the ruler over two plants, Lavenai & Ashtanabo. His home is on a space station, type of ship, or something that hovers near both planets. His father was Colum before him and conquered Lavenai. From what he shares with Margot, it seems like Lavenai just wants its independence back and is causing problems for Milo and his rule. He paints the picture that he's just trying to help Lavenai get back on its feet after the war, but they are rejecting all his attempts to aid them.
Milo has a group of special, military type of soldiers that he keeps close called proditors. They have superhuman abilities that deal with the mind when they touch other people. I got the impression that each one has a little uniqueness to their abilities, but only one was discussed in detail as to what that proditor could do. These people are stronger than the Colum but are his most trusted warriors, I guess. I'm struggling to find the right description for aspects of this book. There are five of these proditors that live on the Imnicus (the ship/space station where the Colum lives) that are the strongest and closest to Milo. I'll come back to them in a bit.
There was so much about this book that didn't make sense to me or didn't feel fully fleshed out. Margot wakes up from her amnesia and only remembers her first name. She gets immediately annoyed when she learns she's married and her husband hasn't come to visit her. It felt like she wrote him off immediately based on that. The two have a combative beginning. She's told they fell in love, but she's annoyed by the smallest things that he does. At one point, he even tells her that he hated her even before the amnesia. So how did they have this whirlwind love affair that resulted in their marriage while simultaneously hating each other? Aside from that, Margot makes several assumptions about life and other people in a way that doesn't seem to make sense given her amnesia. Granted, I don't fully understand how amnesia works, but I felt she was too opinionated over things she didn't know anything about.
Margot takes down a proditor that snuck up on her. They explain that her body has this muscle memory that her brain might not realize is associated with past memories. She's told she was a soldier who quickly worked up the ranks to become a spy. Apparently, she was extremely good at this. Later, we find out that Margot wasn't all that athletic when it came to physical fights, so how she had the muscle memory to take down a proditor doesn't make sense. The muscle memory thing is not over yet as far as not making sense. She opens a locked tablet with a passcode that her brain doesn't remember, but her fingers apparently do. She's ultimately sent on a spy mission for Milo. Before the mission, no one is particularly concerned about her amnesia because "don't worry, her muscle memory will take over." I feel confident that spies probably use their brains and training just as much as any muscle memory. The goal of a good spy would be to never need to be in a combat situation, right? Anyway, the only opportunity the reader has to see Margot spying is that she once follows Milo around for a week, trying to sneak up on him. He tells her almost immediately that he knew she was following him. And then we learn he even knew where she was so she didn't catch him off guard. This could be explained away with some spoilers, but I don't think the explanation makes any more sense than anything else about this book. Not to mention that we do learn that Margot wasn't all that capable of a spy in the first place.
Margot and Milo supposedly fall in love. I say "supposedly" because there are no events that happen that should create any deep connection between these two. Sure, they have several surface-level interactions. But there's no depth of feeling involved. There's no analysis of the other person's character that inspires any emotion. It's just like we're told they fall in love, and so we're supposed to believe it. Perhaps this is a telling versus showing problem. If anything, I believe there was some attraction and lust, but I didn't experience anything that would lead me to believe these two were in love at all.
Back to the proditors. The term crows is used about the proditors and their abilities. Someone's crows are sick. Someone else's aren't powerful enough to give them full proditor abilities. These guys are so confusing. There are 5 of them on the Imnicus. Two Margot has an immediate liking to. They feel like old friends in a way. One of them, she doesn't meet until her spy mission, and then he is only mentioned in passing. This HAS to be set up for some piece in the future of the series because otherwise, he was entirely unnecessary. One appears to hate her for no reason she can determine. One keeps getting her drunk and seems like he just wants to hang out with her. How their abilities work, how they work for Milo, nearly everything about them is just confusing. What in the world do crows have anything to do with anything? How many crows are there?
There's a giant twist that should make things make more sense. In some ways, the twist does, but in other ways, I just ended up with more questions.
I read Lost Crows and Fallen Stars really quickly. I was driven forward to keep reading because I wanted the answers to Margot's memories. Who was she before all of this happened to her? But so much of this world and the events of this story didn't make any logical sense. I had more questions after the book than I did to start with. And I can't fully say that I loved any of the characters. Margot was made out to be some top-level spy with an epic love story with her husband that she doesn't remember yet falls in love with again. Milo seemed like a good enough leader with perhaps a short temper, yet I couldn't find anything in his character to draw Margot to him. And I couldn't see why he came to love her either, except perhaps she showed a little spunk. There are plenty of spoilers I can't talk about, but I have to say that I'm not sure if I'll continue this series or not. I'm curious about what might happen next, but with so much not making sense logically and with characters that I don't really care about, I am not sure I'll find the desire to continue the series all that strong when the time comes. The Enemy Asks Her To Be His Wife. Marrying Him For The First Time ... Again.
Milo Arris is the cruel and young ruler of two planets. The enemy makes Margo his Columess after invaders wipe out all of the main character's memories. People who work in the castle are failing to hide mysterious burns into their skin. During an evening ball a castle maid is violently killed, a murder most foul.
Why did Margo lose her memories, no, why were her memories stolen from her? Why are people hiding burnt lacerations on their skin? Who is murdering innocent people? Who is not to be trusted aboard the Imnicus?
I would label this read to be a romantasy, sci-fi, dark space murder-mystery.
The romance was very enemies-to-lovers and an amnesiac trope. A very heavy read.
Margot, our main character, is definitely morally grey. There are major angsty vibes. Except, with the enemies-top-lovers, they almost instantly go back to enemies *spoilers*. This book is for people who tend to root for Disney's villains rather than the heroines and heros, the knight in shining armour.
Antiheros are a major component of this one. Antiheroes, yuppers, no shortage of them. I felt as though I was watching an origin story of a villainess slowly coming into her own confident, dynamic self. The only bad part of this dark murder space thriller would be to do a bit more world-building.
I loved the creepy/interesting/hot characters, but the setting could be elaborated on immensely. I need to be immersed in a tale, in its people, in its place and home. I want to imagine myself there with the cast of the book. The idea of the Two Planets is very interesting, and would love more background on that bit of the story. Besides that, cannot wait for the next read! 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Stars!

Okay, I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. It's like a sci-fi, forbidden romance with high stakes and some wild twists. I found it on one of the free "stuff you kindle" days and immediately I was hooked. Looking forward to the next one.

3⭐️this was fairly average, it kept my attention mostly. I kind of started to catch on to what was about to happen but it was still well written.
Would have liked a bit more from the romance, felt like something was missing- tbh I thought the author was pulling a Sarah J Mass and this wasn’t the actual love interest but I was wrong.
It’s on kindle unlimited and is a pretty short read, if anyone’s interested💫

This was an incredibly fun read that I finished in less than a day - I could not put it down!
Lost Crows and Fallen Stars follows our MFC, Margot as Lady of the Colum. She wakes up in a medical ward, unable to access any of her memories. While she tries to remember events during the book, she grows close to the Colum, Knox, and Lleu.
Things start to go awry when maids have mysterious burns, and a maid is found dead during a ball. Who is doing this and why? Is it someone who is against the Colum?
I knew this was going to be a good book when this quote was in the very first chapter: “The water turns into an endless ocean. In the distance, sitting on the ocean floor is Death, tipping his hat to me, then reaching out a hand.”
You guys - I cannot. I SCREAMED when I read the plot twist; I was literally in shock. I 100% did not see it coming, and I was absolutely heartbroken. I grew to love seeing Margot happy with the Colum.

The genius of how early in the book Margot gave them the code to the tablet!? I could not believe it.
This book ends in a way that it will be able to go on to a second book, which is very exciting! I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley (thank you!), but I will definitely be buying a physical copy of this book to support the author. If Star Wars and Throne of Glass had a baby, you would get Lost Crows and Fallen Stars. And if you're anything like me, you'll be obsessed to the point of bouncing up and down in anticipation of book two because WHAT 😭😫😵💫
Abelia Sumpter has transported me to a world of epic space fantasy, and now I can’t escape– and I don’t want to leave! From the very first page I was captivated by the story wanting more and more answers that were sprinkled throughout. It kept me guessing all while I was having fun.
Margot wakes up to realize the only thing she remembers is her name. She’s been tortured to the point of forgetting everything, including her husband Milo who rules the empire. In this space fantasy, you follow Margot as she searches for answers to her capture and the mysterious burns all the servants are getting. But, just when she feels like she’s safe, everything crumbles.
***What I Loved***
Okay, here we go.
The number one thing I loved about this book is how it keeps you guessing from beginning to end. What was Margot’s role before losing her memory? Why won’t Milo talk to her? Why does everyone hate her? What are the mysterious burns everyone keeps receiving? Most of all, WHY DID MARGOT LOSE HER MEMORY?
The questions KEPT coming. I couldn’t put the book down because I needed answers. And I was hooked until the very end which left EVEN MORE QUESTIONS. I’ll be ever so patiently waiting for book two and try to ignore the suspense that’s building inside me.
***Characters***
Margot is the lead, and what I appreciated about her was how relatable she is. She’s not the typical fantasy FMC that is super tough and has all these super valuable skills (which I also love, don’t get me wrong). Margot’s biggest strength is her ability to push through. While reading, I felt like “this could be me if I were in this situation”. She’s likable and interesting and a great protagonist.
Milo gets a lot more action time towards the end, but I honestly wish he were in it more in the beginning. There’s still so many questions I have about him… but there are some hints that book two might give us more insight into the mysterious Colum. You find out he’s got a dark side and man oh man I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this plays out.
The proditors are really fun characters because each one has such a unique personality. There are five of them, and they’re basically super soldiers with magical abilities– mostly mind control. I loved this little tease of magic in the story. It really made the fantasy come to life.
***The Setting***
Have you ever dreamed of a spaceship palace that rules over planets? Well, it's here and, no, it's not the Death Star. You’re introduced to the history behind the planets and wars and terrorists and rebellions. There’s a lot going on. But luckily, you’re learning along with Margot since she lost her memory. It makes the fantasy elements easy to digest.
There were some parts of the novel that I wished there were more of, like more build up between Milo and Margot in the beginning– however, it won’t knock any stars because I have my suspicions that book two will give me everything I’m hoping for.
I did want to see a little bit more of the spy skills that Margot had because I did question her abilities a bit, but again, it makes sense for how it plays out in this novel, and I’ll be interested to see what happens in the next one.
So, to summarize, I loved everything about this book, I couldn’t put it down, and I am extremely excited for book two.

Abelia Sumpter has transported me to a world of epic space fantasy, and now I can’t escape– and I don’t want to leave! From the very first page I was captivated by the story wanting more and more answers that were sprinkled throughout. It kept me guessing all while I was having fun.
Margot wakes up to realize the only thing she remembers is her name. She’s been tortured to the point of forgetting everything, including her husband Milo who rules the empire. In this space fantasy, you follow Margot as she searches for answers to her capture and the mysterious burns all the servants are getting. But, just when she feels like she’s safe, everything crumbles.
***What I Loved***
Okay, here we go.
The number one thing I loved about this book is how it keeps you guessing from beginning to end. What was Margot’s role before losing her memory? Why won’t Milo talk to her? Why does everyone hate her? What are the mysterious burns everyone keeps receiving? Most of all, WHY DID MARGOT LOSE HER MEMORY?
The questions KEPT coming. I couldn’t put the book down because I needed answers. And I was hooked until the very end which left EVEN MORE QUESTIONS. I’ll be ever so patiently waiting for book two and try to ignore the suspense that’s building inside me.
***Characters***
Margot is the lead, and what I appreciated about her was how relatable she is. She’s not the typical fantasy FMC that is super tough and has all these super valuable skills (which I also love, don’t get me wrong). Margot’s biggest strength is her ability to push through. While reading, I felt like “this could be me if I were in this situation”. She’s likable and interesting and a great protagonist.
Milo gets a lot more action time towards the end, but I honestly wish he were in it more in the beginning. There’s still so many questions I have about him… but there are some hints that book two might give us more insight into the mysterious Colum. You find out he’s got a dark side and man oh man I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see how this plays out.

I got the chance to become an ARC reader for Abelia, and I am so glad I did. I applied solely off of one description of this book, and y'all, this book is so good.
We meet Margot after she has been attacked and completely lost her memory. We learn about her world right along with her. It's clear to her and the reader that something is off in her world, but it's nowhere near obvious what that is.
When I tell you I spent the entire time with this book thinking I knew what was going on to very quickly realize I actually didn't. The twists and turns are so good. This book had me engaged from start to finish trying to figure it out. I LOVED this book, and I CAN NOT wait for the second part.
I will be recommending this book to literally everyone I know. I love being able to support indie authors, and the bonus is Abelia is an Ohio girl just like me!

4⭐+++, one + for the settings, one + for the characters, and one + for the story turning onto itself!
Not sure why it's labelled as fantasy/romantasy because it's definitely sci-fi. I'd say the romantic plot takes up a good part of the book, but it's not the main thing.
I LOVED the settings, and I'm normally not a sci-fi reader. The Proditors were so intriguing, both as a concept and as characters. I wish more was explained about them, because I still feel confused about what it takes to be one... But it's something that didn't annoy me, it makes me look forward to the next book more.
For half the book I had some doubts and confusion, but around half way, something happens that made me say a big "ahhhh." And since I grew invested in the main characters and their love story, the big twist had me bite my nails! I have to say, the way the book ended made me grin and left me super intrigued.
I can't wait to see how it continues!

Wow, this was a WILD ride. I am stunned. It’s not what I expected at all.. We have memory loss, a huge ship in space, and nothing is as it seems. There’s mystery, political scheming, lies, and more. It was also quite dark. There are no “good guys” here and I’m as shocked as the main character is. The twist had my jaw on the floor!! I loved this. I don’t think I would consider it a full blown romance yet?? But that’s just me. I’ll tag it as such anyway. I’m very curious as to where this is headed and I find it all very exciting and intriguing!! 4.5 stars!! 🐦⬛🖤

A really good integration of sci-fi into the fantasy genre. I personally wouldn't call this a romantasy, but a sci-fi fantasy with a touch of romance. The mystery plot was what kept me hooked, but the romance plot wasn't for me unfortunately. I found the story sometimes dragged but was interesting enough to keep me reading.

I really wanted to love this book. It has all the right bits to make a truly compelling and interesting romance with a great subplot, but it just falls flat. The writing is stilted as we jump from plot point of plot point. The first close encounter with Milo feels forced as until this point he’s been generally non-existent, which I can forgive if only he didn’t disappear immediately after. Margot spends more time with the supporting characters and seems to have a secondary love interest in one of them that feels more compelling than the main one. However, none of that matters once, out of nowhere, Milo pours his heart out to Margot. The romance is really the subplot in this identity crisis of a book.
The supposed actual subplot of the book changes genre so many times that I got whiplash. As Margot is starting to uncover details about herself, the mystery is completely dropped in favor for an action story. Funnily enough, I much prefer this part. The vision and writing in the second half of the book is much more cohesive and compelling. I found myself zooming through these chapters wanting to know what was coming next.
Unfortunately, as much as I liked the second half of the book, it was not enough to change my initial impression. The stilted writing, the lukewarm romance, and the uneven pacing leaves me wishing I could have the vision that was clear through this book.

Wow. WOW. I went into this book with zero expectations and only the NetGalley description and I was not left disappointed. I’d classify this as a dark sci fi romantasy with some murder-mystery & thriller vibes. Say that ten times fast! This is a great read for romantasy readers to dip their toes into the sci-fi world:: aliens not included.
This book has everything!!!! Enemies to lovers, a dash of spice, murder, politics, tech, lies and deception, a dystopian world, some touch her and die vibes, thrills, chills, and plot twists that will have you sitting there thinking “WTF JUST HAPPENED” all neatly packaged within its pages. Every time I thought to myself “yeah, I know where this is going” BAM - @abeliasumpter threw a curve ball or kicked whatever thought I had up 10 degrees. The cliffhangers (yes, there are many) on which this book ends have had my brain trying to discern how this story is going to wrap up when it ends. So many possibilities!
Margot wakes up aboard a ship with no memories other than her name and many injuries due to being kidnapped and tortured. She quickly learns that she’s not only a former soldier/spy but also the wife of the Colum, the leader of two planets. As she re-acclimates to her life, her friendships, and her marriage she quickly learns that something is not right - but what that is & the how are just out of reach in her head. When a servant is found murdered and others around her are popping up with mysterious burns Margot sets out on a mission to find out exactly what’s going on and prevent what happened to her from happening to others.
The only negative I have is the romance development. The enemies-to-lovers is very much there but how it evolves into lovers left me needing more for it's development. In my opinion Milo is too calculated and guarded and Margot is too self aware despite everything she's dealing with for that dynamic shift to have come as quickly as it did. It had me wishing for more build up, especially after the big reveal of what is really going on. I hope this is explored more in the next book!

2 Stars – Predictable Plot, Unlikable Protagonist, but an Interesting Setting
Normally, this would have been a DNF for me—especially since I was able to predict the ending by around chapter six. The story itself didn’t offer many surprises, and much of the plot followed a familiar formula that made it difficult to stay fully engaged. What ultimately kept me reading was sheer curiosity about how it would all unfold, even if the outcome felt inevitable from early on.
One of my biggest struggles was with Margot’s character. Her attitude often rubbed me the wrong way, and I found it hard to connect with her or sympathize with her choices. She came off as abrasive in a way that didn’t feel nuanced or intentional—just grating.
That said, the setting was the book’s saving grace. The blend of sci-fi and fantasy was intriguing, and the world-building was surprisingly solid. I wouldn’t categorize this as a Romantasy, personally, but the atmosphere and lore did a lot of heavy lifting in keeping my interest. The world itself felt vivid and well-thought-out, and that alone bumped my rating up from a 1.5 to a 2.
Overall, Lost Crows and Fallen Stars had potential, but a predictable plot and frustrating main character held it back for me.

I loved this book a lot more than I thought I would. Honestly, out of the 46 books I have read so far in 2024, I think it is in my top 3. I am not a science fiction reader, so I was a little skeptical at first, but I am so glad I picked this up. The author describes it as a dark romantasy in space, so it's like dipping your toes into scifi. This story kept me absolutely enthralled from beginning to end. It is a little bit of scifi and a little bit of fantasy, but in a super palatable and easy to understand world. You will love the mystery of the storyline, the romance and spice is good, and the plot twist is so great! I would highly recommend this to romantasy lovers, especially those who like morally gray love interests. I cannot wait to read more!

After Margot wakes up in a med bay with no memories, she learns she has recently married the Colum of Imnicus, Milo, and is now the Columess of Imnicus. Milo explains she was kidnapped and tortured by Lavenai rebels, and this has caused her memory loss and injuries. In order to attempt to regain her memories, Margot trains with the four proditors of Imnicus in attempt to tap into her muscle memory. This eventually leads to Margot unlocking a rebel tablet that is found behind after the attack. Eventually, Margot's memories are recovered, and she realizes what she thought was true is far from it.
This is the first book I have read in a while that I couldn't put down. I stayed up far too late on a work night to finish this book because the story was so interesting! As someone who reads a lot of romantasy, I wasn't sure how I would take to a sci-fi romance, but it was excellent. The spice was well written and didn't feel unnecessary or random, and the enemies to lovers romance was perfect. I cannot wait to continue reading this story!

Wow I was impressed with this one! This was a dark sci fi romance with a super unique prose and unpredictable plot. This was heavier on the fantasy though, despite the setting being in space the plot relied much more on things like magic rather than technology. So, if you are a more of a romantasy fan then this is definitely heavier on the fantasy in my opinion and you should check this out.
I loved the plot and genuinely had no idea where the story was going. I couldn’t have predicted the plot twist at the end! I was very invested from start to finish!
My only complaint is I wasn’t a huge fan of the MMC, overall a lot of the characters felt immature despite being a bit older. Despite this I still had a great time reading and look forward to future installments in the series.

This author deserves a kiss on the head. This book kept me sane through a very long travel day. The plot was interesting and well executed, the pacing was fantastic, and I even love-hate the characters (a thin and difficult line to push readers to). I immediately am starting the next book in the series! I absolutely recommend everyone giving this book a try!

I’m very grateful to have received an ARC of this book to review.
The first half of the book was a real struggle to get on board with. We meet Margot as she wakes up from a coma and her memories are completely erased. From the off, of course, the reader is pulled into a journey of Margot trying to recover her memories but there seems to be something more to the story that we are yet to uncover. I honestly couldn’t believe the twist when it happened, despite the fact I felt there was something amiss with how the book was playing out. I did struggle to get on board with the Margot/Milo hype, I feel they were so distant and wrong for each other at first that when they did begin to explore their relationship. The plot was brilliantly written, although I did find myself getting a little lost at times with the writing and descriptions. Very much looking forward to the second instalment in the series to delve deeper into the upcoming story and how it is going to unravel!

The first half of this book felt off to me. It seemed like the characters were being so weird with each other, and I couldn't put my finger on why. When I got to the second part, it absolutely made sense why everything felt so off. I saw part of the twist at the end coming. I'll be interested to see how Margot and Milo's relationship plays out in the next book. Would recommend.

Come aboard the Imnicus on an out of the world mystery as we follow Margo as she wakes with amnesia and learns that she is married to the Colum who is the leader of two planets, and he is anything but nice and Margo hates him. As the story progresses, Margo learns that that there is a rebellion going on, she becomes trained, learns the power of the crow and finds herself tasked with a mission(without giving too much away).
It has the all the good stuff: touch her and die, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and you can’t forget the spice. Some of the story was a little predictable, but Abelia’s writing kept me engaged throughout the entire book and the twists sprinkled throughout the book left me wanting more.

Not for me sadly. I was confused about Margot as a character and felt like she wasn't actually good as a spy. She also made comments about other female characters a lot and their looks which was off putting. The romance aspect was pretty weird for me.

I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised by this book! As someone who is a big fan of romanticy books, I am really excited to see where this series goes! I think it was quite a fast read as well which only proves to me that it is a book anyone could read and enjoy. I’ll get into my thoughts a bit more shortly, but here’s your little summary…
A girl wakes up from a coma not knowing anything besides her name, Margot, and the fact that she was a strong soldier and spy, but also the wife to the Colum, a royal leader. She knows this only because it’s what she’s been told. Her memory is completely wiped. As she wanders the palace halls (on a space ship), she is faced wondering what happened before and how she can gain her memories back. But as weeks go by and an enemy rebellion looms, she will need to try to recall what happened before and who she really is beyond the Columess.
Firstly, I want to say that I actually quite liked Margot. Sometimes in these books, you find yourself disliking or even hating the protagonist female character. Cue Isla from Lightlark… I digress… but Margot, though she is described as weak, wasn’t bad! I hope in the next book she continues to grow and we can understand more of her backstory as a spy. I think she might end up like Juliette from Shatter Me (sorry for all the book references!) and will end up becoming a badass warrior princess. I think her character growth is already significant. Speaking of characters, I think each is quite different and has their own defining qualities. I mainly am speaking of Onyx, Crux, Knox, and Alarik. Milo as a male protagonist was not terrible, I think he had some good moments. But I wish I saw more growth between him and Margot. Like the time jumps each chapter didn’t show how their feelings grew towards each other. I want to know what was the turning point from being basically “strangers” to star crossed lovers. Otherwise, I think he too had some nice development!
I am going to keep this spoiler free (go read this book!!!), but I’ll allude to some later events. The plot twist or peak in this book was slightly predictable! I think as a reader who gasps at any plot twist, I was shook to the core, but if we are looking at this practically, it was evident what was going to happen when Margot finally gets her memory back. I think there were little things I wasn’t expecting, but for the most part, I think a reader can understand the whole “enemies to lovers” trope has some more meaning behind it. Nonetheless, I was still impressed and found this to be the big turning point for the book. I went from wanting to read it to wanting to read it AND continue reading it until the end. Speaking of the end? Shook!!
Let’s talk about the pace of this book. Where this book went from a 4 to a 5 mainly came from the pace. I wanted there to be a bit more world building and description about the ship. The whole book takes place on a ship (I think?) and we are in this dystopian scify realm. I wanted to envision it better and I struggled visualizing the realm and world. I think it would’ve taken up more pages and might’ve not been as action heavy, but it would’ve done wonders. Secondly, there were big jumps. It would be a month later in just a chapter and I wished there was more building. The ball came out of nowhere! But in that in between time, it would’ve been nice to see some more interaction between characters. Or something? I don’t know, maybe I’m overreacting, but I wanted this longer (maybe I’m selfish and just wanted to keep reading more but…).
Overall, I quite enjoyed this book. I know it is only online, but I hope this can be turned into a hardcover and be brought to bookstores. It has the ability to become a bestselling book honestly. The makings of a perfect YA book (I know it says it’s meant for people over 18, but the sex scenes are quite tame so I’m calling it YA). I think in the second book, there will be so much more excitement and I honestly think I would read it when it came out! I mean, genuinely it was fun and these are the type of books that get me out of my reading funks. Can’t wait to see more from this author!
I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised by this book! As someone who is a big fan of romanticy books, I am really excited to see where this series goes! I think it was quite a fast read as well which only proves to me that it is a book anyone could read and enjoy. I’ll get into my thoughts a bit more shortly, but here’s your little summary…
A girl wakes up from a coma not knowing anything besides her name, Margot, and the fact that she was a strong soldier and spy, but also the wife to the Colum, a royal leader. She knows this only because it’s what she’s been told. Her memory is completely wiped. As she wanders the palace halls (on a space ship), she is faced wondering what happened before and how she can gain her memories back. But as weeks go by and an enemy rebellion looms, she will need to try to recall what happened before and who she really is beyond the Columess.
Firstly, I want to say that I actually quite liked Margot. Sometimes in these books, you find yourself disliking or even hating the protagonist female character. Cue Isla from Lightlark… I digress… but Margot, though she is described as weak, wasn’t bad! I hope in the next book she continues to grow and we can understand more of her backstory as a spy. I think she might end up like Juliette from Shatter Me (sorry for all the book references!) and will end up becoming a badass warrior princess. I think her character growth is already significant. Speaking of characters, I think each is quite different and has their own defining qualities. I mainly am speaking of Onyx, Crux, Knox, and Alarik. Milo as a male protagonist was not terrible, I think he had some good moments. But I wish I saw more growth between him and Margot. Like the time jumps each chapter didn’t show how their feelings grew towards each other. I want to know what was the turning point from being basically “strangers” to star crossed lovers. Otherwise, I think he too had some nice development!

Being a KU reader sci fi, especially sci fi with magic and/or romance isnt a genre that is common. If you like films like Total Recall, Dune or Star Wars then this might just tickle your fancy.
Margot wakes up from a coma with amnesia and injuries she cant explain, she knows her name but very little else. She is told she is a victim of a terrorist plot and was captured and tortured before they wiped her mind. She is also told she is the wife of Milo Arris, the Colum or ruler of two planets, Lavenai and Ashtanabo, making Margot the Columess. And she isnt on either planet but on a huge space ship, the Imnicus.
When she eventually meets Milo its hate at first sight, they have mutual loathing for each other, yet she is still drawn to this charismatic, powerful man. She finds out that Lavenai is a poor, occupied planet, whose atmosphere is heavily polluted and people subjugated by the Ashtanabo people. And they are responsible for her torture and amnesia.
As she tries to adjust to life as Columess she starts noticing odd things, something isnt quite right with both the ship and the staff, and she comes up against the 5 proditors, elite warriors with magic mind bending abilities, and some seem strangely hostile to her. She also starts noticing some of the staff have strange blue burns on them and a murdered servant girl only adds to the mysteries.
Can Margot unearth what is really going on and uncover the truth about what is happening on board the Imnicus in time? There a great plot twist about 70% of the way in which explains a lot.
There are some graphic torture scenes in this book so be mindful if that is a trigger for you. I liked Margot, she was spirited and you can only sympathise with her memory loss and confusion. There is some spice but not too much and characters you'll love to hate.
As someone who reads a lot of fantasy/ romantasy the setting of this one was a welcome change but I liked the fact it still had magic. It has a great cliffie ending and I look forward to reading the next book.
