When a tragic accident leaves Jessica comatose, her spirit escapes her body. Navigating a supernatural realm is tough, but being half dead has its advantages.
Like getting into people’s thoughts.
Like taking over someone’s body.
Like experiencing romance on a whole new plane - literally.
Jessica learns an amazing truth as she struggles to return to her body before the doctors pull the plug, only she can’t do it alone. Now the only two people willing to help Jessica’s splintered soul are the two she’s hurt the most. They must find a way to guide her soul back to her body ... before it’s too late.

I received an ARC of A Soul's Kiss to review and I read it in one day. I really enjoyed A Soul's Kiss. It was interesting and had a good plot. It took a few pages for me to be hooked but once I was I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen! It is written from several different perspectives. Each chapter is from a different character's point of view. This made it even more interesting and intriguing. It was a cute storyline and I think it ended really well. The book was clean which is very important to me when reading a YA book. BUT there is some mention of partying, drugs and sex. . . not descriptive but just a mention. I would have liked it better without that but it wasn't terrible and still clean. The mentions didn't make me uncomfortable like some books I have read. I hope you read A Soul's Kiss. I loved how seeing things from different points of view helps change Jessica's perspective and helps her improve and grow. It was a really cute story!!
DNF @ 29%. The POV jumps so frequently that I am so confused trying to keep everyone straight. I have no idea what’s going on and tbh I don’t care enough to stick around and find out.
I received A Soul’s Kiss in return for an honest review from the author. Jessica is in love with Michael but he doesn’t really notice her. When she finally takes the chance in hopes of getting his attention fate knocks her down literally. After being knocked down accidentally she’s loaded into the car with Michael his girlfriend Hannah and Keith. While taking her home there is an accident leaving Jessica in a coma and having out of body experiences. While Jessica is in the worst shape she isn’t the only one who leaves her body. Michael and Hanna escaped free with no injuries but Jessica feels connected to them.
Jessica learns that she can get into her friends dreams but she leaves traces of herself. She also learns that she can jump into Hannah and control her. The more time she spends outside her body the more she learns about herself as well as her friends. That maybe Hannah’s life isn’t perfect or that Michael isn’t the great guy he appears to be. What about Tyler who’s been in love with her forever? Will Jessica make it back to her body or be lost forever? Will she make it back before the doctors pull the plug?
I like Jessica she reminds me a lot of a typical teenager wanting to have it all. I like that she has grown as a character throughout the book. Jessica has a best friend who stays her rock even though she’s been hurt by Jessica but she does what she can to help save her. She reminds me a lot of myself as a teenager. Well I didn’t want to be homecoming queen and our drum major was cute in a nice guy kind of way.
A Soul’s Kiss is a unique novel filled with engaging characters that captivate our heart as well as the imagination. An emotional ride loaded with intrigue, secrets, romance, and the paranormal that hooks the reader till the very last page. The author has created a story that gives us the point of view from all the major characters which is still a new idea for me but the way the book flows it works really well. I always wonder what the other people are thinking but this time I knew what was up. I like the way the author has given us a insight into the other characters it made it harder for me to hate Hannah but I ended up feeling sorry for her. The story is a quick paced book for me it was hard to put down because I wanted to know more about this secret as well as if Jessica would wake up. It’s a clean novel so teens as well as adults will enjoy the complex story. I look forward to seeing what the author comes up with next.
When a high school prank goes awry, a severely injured Jessica is plunged into a state between life and death. Through a series of out-of-body experiences, she struggles to find love and understand friendship.
Right away I was reminded of If I Stay by Gayle Forman, as both comatose girls must come to terms with what happened in their accidents and why, and must decide how and when to come back to life--a life forever altered. Unlike the protagonist of If I Stay, Jessica of A Soul's Kiss has the ability to interact with (and even, at one point, take over) key people in her life. In this way, she discovers what her friends really think of her, which is both disconcerting and heart-warming. And all of this work that she does sans body helps Jessica make sense of the life she once led.
A Soul's Kiss is more than Jessica's story. It's also the story of Jessica's friends Rashanda and Tyler, Jessica's love interest Michael, and Michael's love interest Hannah. Of all the characters in A Soul's Kiss, Rashanda is my favorite. She is the voice of moral authority. She observes everything and reserves judgment, willing to sacrifice her needs to help those she cares for. Rashanda is the kind of friend you wish you had, and part of Jessica's journey is to recognize Rashanda's special nature and unique gifts.
A more important part of Jessica's journey is to understand herself. Whom does she love, Tyler or Michael? Who loves her? Jessica believes things that are not true and knows things that she denies, particularly evident when she inhabits the body of someone in her circle. It's fun to step into a mind and watch it war with itself, and author Chapoton raises questions about where body and soul begin and end. For me, this was the most intriguing section of the book. You know that Atticus from To Kill a Mockingbird says you can't know a person until you "stand in his shoes and walk around." The irony is Jessica does that literally, and only then finds herself.
The middle of the novel dragged a bit (it's a very interior read), and I would have liked more voice distinction among the five narrators, but A Soul's Kiss is a thought-provoking book about love and friendship teens will enjoy. Recommended for readers of Forman's If I Stay and Zhang's What's Left of Me.
I started this book thinking that it was a simple love story between a couple of teenagers with the usual high school drama. Boy was I wrong, this book took some very unexpected turns and I’m glad it did.
Jessica experiences an in between-state, she’s in a coma but her spirit is free to do what it wants. She finds out that she has the ability to get into people’s heads and look into their thoughts and emotions. This way she’s able to uncover some secrets that involve both her and her friends.
Jessica’s mind travelling ability crept me out sometimes. The idea that someone can really get in your head is a little disturbing. I wouldn’t want it to happen to me! But at the same time it’s a nice idea that when you are in a coma you are still able to see what’s going on around you.
I really liked that every chapter had a different point of view. We got to know the story from the different characters. The different point of views were very interesting since all the characters were so different from each other, some I liked some I hated.
There were times I got a little frustrated with some of the characters. Jessica for instance was a bit to ignorant at times. Something was laid out right in front of her but she still ignores it, it’s like she doesn’t want to see the reality. And some others well they definitely have some serious mental health problem. They behavior and most of all there lack of emotion was very disturbing.
Overall I enjoyed reading A Soul’s Kiss but it’s not a book that I would reread again in the near future. This book is perfect who want to read a contemporary YA book with a paranormal twist.
*Note the author provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
This book is totally different from what I normally read. But my husband always tell me I need to read something different. It was nice to change up my normal style and dive into something else. I gave this story 5 stars. It has the suspense, romance, and friendship that my inner goddess yearns for.
Jessica is a junior in high school and has a crush on a senior in her drama class. He is the quarterback of the football team and the drum major in the marching band. Michael Hoffman, her crush, already has a girlfriend Hannah, who is definitely not Jessica's favorite person.
Rashanda is Jessica's best friend. She has her own illness and is in and out of the hospital herself.
Jessica is in a car accident with fellow students: Michael, Hannah, and another senior Keith. Keith is the stepbrother to Tyler. Tyler is one of Jessica and Rashanda's friends. No one ever knew Tyler and Keith were related until the accident. Jessica's spirit seems to be lost. She is able to visit her friends and family as her spirit.
Jessica discovers things about Michael, Hannah, Tyler and Rashanda that her human body self never knew about any of them. Jessica is able to decide who she can really trust and who she can't. Does she find out if she will still want her crush Michael in the end or is Tyler the right one for her?
I highly recommend this book. It is more on the lighter side to what I normally read. It's one of those books that at the end, you are happy with the ending, but you wish there was more to elaborate with. It's not a cliff hanger, but you will wish you had a little bit more to elaborate on the "happy ending." I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

3.5 stars I haven’t ever read a book quite like this one before. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect going into this book but I was pleasantly surprised.
Jessica finds herself in an in between state- her body is in a coma, unresponsive, but her spirit is full on and active. Jessica finds she has the ability to get into people’s heads and know their thoughts and see their memories. By doing this, she is able to uncover the truth about some events involving her friends and herself.
I’ll admit I was a little bit creeped out by Jessica’s mind traveling ability. Can you imagine? Someone else in your head? Then she gets stuck inside someone’s mind and can’t get out. Yikers!
What I liked about the book was that each chapter was written from different points of view. All the characters, including Jessica, had their moment. I liked gaining information that way and I thought it added a lot to the book.
When Jessica entered someone’s head, she always came away with a part of them and left some part of her or other’s she had touched behind. So, that means that eventually, everyone that had Jessica in their mind also had bits of the other people too. Memories, mostly, that weren’t their own. Wow. It all sounds so strange, right? But, kinda cool too.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was interesting and kept my attention the whole way through.
Content: There was some mention of teenage sex although nothing is described in detail. But, you do know it happened. There is also a group of teenagers who deliberately set out to hurt other teenagers. They are mean and do things that are against the law.
When I started this book, I really thought it was going to be a simple love story between a couple of teenagers. I wasn't expecting the story to take the turns that it did and I'm glad it did.
There are so many different characters we get to meet in this story and all of them play a very important part in the story as a whole. Jessica is our main character, and she was a genuinely great YA character. This story takes place in the minds and lives of a lot of different teenagers but Jessica, the main character is the one person experiencing almost all of these other characters emotions and thoughts. She is in a half conscious state because of an accident and while she is in this state she interacts with a few of her classmates even without them really knowing it.
I gave this story 3.5 stars because there were times where I was slightly confused with the POV I was reading and the characters started to get mixed up. This was a personal problem on my half and I'm sure not everyone will feel this way. I guess I'm just one of those that can't handle a lot of different POV.
I would recommend this story to those that would like to read something light, clean and fun. It has a different twist to it and I don't want to give everything away. Overall I liked it and I enjoyed reading it but I'm not sure it was something that I would read again anytime soon or something that I would gravitate towards when choosing a YA book.
I was given a copy of this story by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I received a review copy from the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review. Reading A Soul's Kiss takes you through different characters' POVs all revolving around Jessica and her subsequent accident. However, what remained unknown to her was truth to what happened that led to the accident and probably what happened to some of her schoolmates.
It's amazing to be able to read about multiple characters' thoughts throughout the story that gives the reader a more in-depth view of the situation. What fascinated me the most was the idea of Jessica's spirit being able to escape from her body and let her do things that were just so... unimaginable. It's actually a unique experience reading A Soul's Kiss. I also like how each characters tried to solve the mystery of Jessica's spirit and how they tried to resolve the situation.
A Soul's Kiss is definitely an enjoyable read which really captures my attention from page 1. The story just pulls me in and made me keep on turning the pages on my e-reader to find out what would happen to our poor Jessica and if she will return back to her body before it's too late. The only downside of the book is overlapping of scenario but from multiple characters. I know this is inherent in books with multiple POVs but still, I felt it was kind of repeating the scene. Nevertheless, A Soul's Kiss is still a good read which I'll recommend to others.
I really liked this book. It was an interesting, easy read.
Story: The story was very fascinating. The spirit-out-of-body plot was dealt with very well so it was not that complicated and I really enjoyed reading it! The suspense was well-written and there were times when I was reading fast, eager to know what would happen next.
Characters: I liked how different chapters were told from different character's point of views. Michael was a scary character! But he was also very fascinating! Surprisingly, I really enjoyed Hannah's chapters. I felt sorry for her and I liked reading about her. Rashanda was probably my least favorite character. It's not that I didn't like her, I just liked her the least out of all the characters. I liked Jessica. She was nice and optimistic. But most of all, she was very real and relatable. Tyler was adorable! He was a sweetheart. I also really liked Keith, though he was only a minor character. He was cool!
Overall: A Soul's Kiss was a really good book! It was a nice, quick and easy read and I really enjoyed reading it. If you like supernatural romances then you should definitely read this book!
Why I picked up? I received this book from the author for an honest review. My Thought’s: Ok so I am gonna keep this simple and sweet. My initial thoughts going into this book was that it would be a simple love story with a bit of paranormal, but it really took me by surprise with all it’s twists and multiple views.
A Soul’s Kiss is told from multiple different views, so we get a grasp on many characters and their part in the story. I think this was a unique touch, the only problem I could have with it is it’s difficulty to flop back and forth between characters. Sometimes I found it confusing because I would forget I changed characters and have to go back and see who I was on. I almost think this would have been better told in third person rather then multiple first person’s.
Overall I thought A Soul’s Kiss was a cute fun paranormal romance stand-alone, that I would recommend to someone who likes clean PR with twists to keep you engaged.
Worth Buying?
Eh I honestly don’t plan on buying. I enjoyed it but it’s not something I plan on reading again or loved so much I just had to own regardless if I ever read again.
Did I enjoy this book: It was cute. Ms. Chapoton isn’t going to be accused of writing the next epic work of literature, but she’s a great storyteller. The prose was cleanly written, the characters were multidimensional, and the supernatural elements straddled the line of believability perfectly. Ms. Chapoton manages to convey the dark issues modern high school students face without offensive language or imagery, and she tosses in just the right amount of levity to keep her story afloat. Her years as a high school teacher have paid off — Ms. Chapoton captures the undulating, hormonal emotions of teenagers with expert accuracy and tells a romantic little tale in the process.
Would I recommend it: Yes. It’s a great addition to the Young Adult genre.

I received this book as a first reader goodreads giveaway. The book was hard to get into at first. Each chapter was about a different character. That character would tell their part of the story so it was hard to remember which character was "talking" without looking back. As the story progressed, I got into it more and was able to differentiate each character. The story was quite good. I'm glad I didn't give up on it. The paranormal elements were believable and would leave the reader hoping it was real. Though the ending was predictable, it was a good refreshing read. I would recommend it as a light read.
Debra Chapoton masterfully works the plot through the eyes of each character in her story, all the while allowing the reader's imagination to be captivated. In other words: I could not put it down! Please do yourself a favor, and purchase this book!

An entertaining ya novel that's suitable for adults too. It was a paranormal romance that also tackled the topic of bullying in an effective way. I enjoyed reading it.
