Aaron Adams is thrust into a world he doesn't understand. As he struggles to find his place in a society that seems to despise him, Aaron sets out on a path of discovery – only to find demons, dangerous hybrids and more secrets; ones that threaten everything Aaron thought he knew.
Amazing book! I loved every little bit of it! It sucked me right in and before I knew it, I was up till 3 in the morning, reading page after page,
I loved Aaron. I got to see him change and develop before my very eyes. I loved the way he defended his friends and how he stood up for them, despite being afraid himself. By the end of the book, when Aaron was standing up for himself, I was cheering like mad,
But the thing that I loved most of all, and the one that kept me up all night reading, wasn't Aaron, it was Kyran. I have no shame in admitting it. I fell for Kyran...hard.
I loved any part that had Kyran and Aaron in it together.
But the ending, oh my gooooddnnesss!!!! I don't know what to say, there's not much I can say without spoiling it! I think a reread this one particular line like three times, just to make sure I was reading it right. I was blown away, completely floored by the twist! Did not see it coming.
I honestly cannot wait for the second book. I don't remember being this excited for any other book.
I just have one last thing to say....but this is more for the author....
OMG! This book.....I don't know what to say! Okay, I have to calm down so I can think straight...Okay. I'm good, I'm good.
Run To Earth is the story of Aaron Adams,
who finds out something about himself on his 14th birthday. He's not what he thinks he is. He has to leave with his parents and two of his best friends to enter a different realm. Once there, Aaron realises there is alot about his past and his family history that he doesn't know. He has to.....oh forget it! The only thing I can think about is Kyran!
I can't think about anything else! OMG, Kyran! He just blew me away! I read for him, I couldn't get enough of him! You have to to read this book. You will fall helplessly in love with Kyran too, just like I did. Oh yeah, and Rose.
Run To Earth is the best book I have read in a long, long time! It had everything - mystery, intrigue, romance, action, kick-ass fights, demons, some really funny and cute scenes and of course the awesome and delicious Kyran!
All in all, it was an amazing ride! Do yourself a favour and get the book today! You won't regret it. And when you get to the end, you'll be doing this:
I really can't do anything else than repeating the other five star reviews! I'm speechless! It's an amazing book and you will have so much fun reading it. I actually had to force myself to put it down. It's not like the typical 'new world' story (where the main character suddenly possesses every ability and can save everyone without doing much), but an incredibly new idea for a YA novel. I absolutely love it!! The idea behind the story and the way everything was described is just amazing! The characters are all perfect. I can't wait for the next one!!
I bought the book last night and finished it within 24 hours. It was so good the only times I put it down were when I had to go to work and class. It was well written, the characters well developed, and the ending was something that I never saw coming. I am eagerly looking forward to the next installment and the wait to know what happens next will feel endless. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventure, action, or good books in general.
In the two minutes between finishing this book and writing this review, the only thing I've done is order the second one.
To say this book is phenomenal would be an insult to the book. I'm not exaggerating, this is the best book I've read in the past couple of years - hell, maybe ever. It had me laughing and screaming and I honestly didn't put it down until I was done.
For someone that loves to read and thinks that the characters can often make or break a book, this didn't disappoint. The characters were funny, sarcastic, brave, powerful, and most importantly - flawed. I, for one, hate the books where everyone runs around being perfect. There's no mistakes or emotional breakdowns - basically it's the world's worst lifetime movie. This was none of that. The characters were upset and showed it like a normal human being (with a little bit more guns and random bursts of epic power, but you get the drift). You find yourself rooting for them and praying to SF Mazhar that they live because damn, if they don't I'm going to have a far different review to write for the second book.
It stands to mention that to do what she's done is next to impossible. She's inspired an amount of love for the characters in this book that, for me, usually takes an entire series. Rowling did it in around three books, Riordan in four, Clare in five and now Mazhar in one.
Kyran is surprisingly charming (not going to lie, I love him to pieces), Rose and Sam made me want to stand up and clap because they represented the human race better than you could have dreamed, the rag-tag gang of mages made me want to scream the words 'group hug' and go kick ass at the same time. And Aaron. Oh, Aaron. Aaron is the little brother I never had, the one that I both want to hug and punch for making me worry about him.
Now, this review would be nothing if I didn't at least tell you about the plot (I'm not going to describe it to you, you can read the summary for that). I think that sometimes a plot can stumble along through plot holes and embarrassing gloss overs if there is a few remarkable characters. So I wasn't exactly banking on the plot being incredible as well. But it was (I don't know why I doubted her). SF Mazhar created a world that was exciting, unpredictable and oddly comforting. There was a tight element of family amongst the mages that made them easy to like, but a ferocity that made you pray they liked you. She's created a world waged by war and a history that's as believable as it is complex. She gives you just enough to understand what's going on, but lets you barrel through the rest guns ablaze. It's entertaining and always surprising. Honestly, most of the plot in this will hit you like a smack in the face and leave you reeling.
There is nothing about this book that screams boring, not a chapter that you could cut or a page you can skim. The whole thing is a rollercoaster, from start to finish. There was more than one time when I lay down on the floor and banged my head on the ground to try and clear it because I got into that squeal-y 'this book is freaking amazing' stage and started to hyperventilate.
I hope she writes this series and then another and another. Because SF Mahzar is a master of her trade. She writes villains as well as she does saviours and depicts assholes so well you almost start to like them. I know that this is a book review, but I think it serves to mention that the author is quickly becoming one of my favourites.
I don't want to spoil anything major, so I'll leave you with this: Buy this book. Paperback, ebook, etched in ten ton blocks of stone, it doesn't matter. I can promise you will not regret it.
One of the best books i have ever read, and thats no exaggeration. there is lots of action and mystery for you to work out with the characters. There is also a brilliant twist tot eh story and i am very happy there will be sequils.
I was hooked on this story after I read the first paragraph and I could barely put it down. I really enjoyed the plot with all it turns and twists and I can only recommend the book! I’ve finished it four days ago and I’m still thinking about it and what’s going to happen next. I’m so excited about the next part! I’m looking forward to it so much!
The characters are all very well written and well developed. Not one of them lacks depth. Their emotions seem so real that you’re just feeling with the characters. I love how they grow so much in such a short period of time but it doesn’t seem forced at all!
I liked that even through it’s a fantasy world there are certain aspects that connect it to our world – you can imagine it really happening that way. I thought the whole “world” was really well introduced with lots of background information which I didn’t find boring at all.
The story includes so many things: war, romance, family, friendship, trust, lots of (really great written) fights, nice and bad guys. All relationships are so unique, not every friendship and family bond feels the same: you can see how different characters feel differently and act differently with each other. I really love that aspect of it!
You just feel how much hard work and passion went into the whole story!
I really enjoyed reading Mazhar's Run To Earth. I felt that the characters and the new world Mazhar described were very well developed. The style of writing was excellent throughout and I didn't think that any sections were too verbose or too succinct - it all flowed really well. The comedic elements always had me laughing and the action-packed battle scenes were terrific!
However, I do agree with what Megan said in her review - that the story suffered slightly because the reader experiences the world through the main character. I was slightly impatient over having to wait for the main character to learn things so the reader could learn more about the new world that Mazhar describes. But as Megan mentioned, this really is a very small criticism, and overall the book was a great read!
For a debut novel, the quality of the writing, plot, and characters is outstandingly high. It's one of the best young adult books that I've read in a long time and I highly recommend it.
It was such an eye-opening, jaw-dropping book with the every sentence of it. In turn, I laughed with Kyrans' way of making fun of Aaron, got angry with Aaron to his no-good parents. I have felt everything with him, got annoyed by Skyler, had fun with Sam in the Orchard. Got bloody worried about the Hunters in Q-Zone, with Scott in the Hub. My heart was truly broken when Rose was sick of being in mage realm in such a sadding position. But Kyran fixed both me and Rose with his sacrifices on them, Rose and Aaron. Swore to Scorcher with the hunters when I saw the damage that he caused... AND THEN, I LEARNED THAT MY BLOODY FAVOURITE CHARACTER WAS THE BLOODY HEAD OF THE DEMONS FROM THE BEGINNING!!! I still can not believe that Kyran would be Scorcher... Kyran.. A vamage.. No...
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed the book. It was gripping, held my attention, made me think up theories of what was going to happen and then blew those theories away with what actually happened. That doesn't happen to me a lot.
I saw everything so vividly in my head that it was as if it were a movie playing, not a book.
I won't give away any spoilers but the main story is about Aaron Adams.
He turns 14 in the first chapter of Run To Earth. Straight away we see how suffocated he is living with his super over protective parents. They don't let him go to school or hang out with his friends, who happen to be his neighbors. Meet the Mason twins.
Sam and Rose Mason are two years older than Aaron but they are his best friends. To celebrate Aaron's birthday, Sam and Rose sneak him out of his house at midnight. But then they almost get run over by a car and Aaron, for the first time ever! displays a rare skill. He splits open the ground to trap the car and saves himself and his friends.
From there, a whole series of events get set in motion and Aaron learns that he is not who he thought he was. He and his best friends are whisked away to another dimension where Aaron meets a whole cast of colorful characters.
Meet the bully that makes Aaron's life hell, Skyler Avira
He is a real piece of work. But here is where I admire the author for her style and skill of writing. Even though I hated Skyler, more often than not, I understood where he was coming from and even half-heartedly agreed with his intentions. He had a crappy attitude and took out his anger on Aaron, but his reasonings were understandable (still made him a dick though)
Then there is the beautiful Ella Afton!
She is hands down, my favorite. She was not mean like Skyler but she wasn't exactly nice either. She was another well put together character that had her moments. I loved her chemistry with Sam. Everytime they crossed paths, I could do nothing to pull away!
Now, we meet the one that made this book hands-down-freaking-awesome for me. Ladies and Gentleman, let me introduce Kyran!
Kyran is, without a doubt, the absolute gem of Run To Earth. From the moment he arrived, which wasn't till chapter 9, it was brutally apparent that he is someone pretty damn special! Every single line that had Kyran and Aaron together was gold! I loved their banter, their charming camaraderie, the way Aaron took to Kyran instantly. Because other than being the only one that was somewhat decent to Aaron and the twins, Kyran is also the boy that Aaron's being dreaming about for the last few months.
Aaron learns that Skyler, Ella and Kyran are a part of a group. The Hunters.
They are the ones that go out to kick some demon ass! The fights scenes in this book are incredible. They are so vividly described, I could see each kick and almost hear every gunshot. The hunts were a favorite part of the book for me.
But Run To Earth does alot more than deliver fantastic fight scenes with badass characters. It tells a story about loyalty, about friendship, both new and old, and the heartbreak left by betrayal. It shows the strain of secrets on relationships that should be solid. It shows that above everything else, our relationship with those around us, either make us strong or weak.
I would recommend everyone, absolutely everyone to pick up a copy of Run To Earth today. You won't regret it, not even for a moment!
What can I say about this book? I was completely floored by it! It took me by surprise, to be honest. I didn't think it was going to be this good! I dragged my feet to write a review because honestly, I can't say much without giving away the mammoth twist!!! But, okay, here it goes.
The story's protagonist is Aaron Adams.
Aaron is refreshingly different to most YA heroes. For a start, he's only 14. He's not all consuming, mega strong, ultra brave, here-to-save-the-day type of guy. He's a somewhat quiet boy who values his friendship with the Mason twins, Sam and Rose, so much so that he goes out of his way to protect them.
I clicked with Aaron right away, seeing in him the same uncertainties we all have at some point in our lives. He's worried about his parents when they disappear. He feels guilty about what happened to his friends. He fears he's not like the rest, not what he's supposed to be like. When have we not felt like this at some point?
Aaron and his family and two best friends have to leave the human world and enter another, when Aaron inadvertently reveals his location to his kinds worst enemies. This new world is not very happy with Aaron, and he doesn't even know why. Something has happened in his past, something to do with his parents but they won't tell Aaron anything. Before Aaron can demand answers, his parents disappear. Stuck in a world that resents him, Aaron and his friends are left to their own devices.
Then comes Kyran.
Kyran.
What can I say about the, dark- haired, vivid green-eyed stranger that's been visiting Aaron's dreams? He's a Hunter, he rides out on his prized motorbike and kills demons, to protect their world and the human one. He's dangerous, gorgeous, can almost take out full valley's of demons on his own, almost!
And to top it all off - this incredible bad boy is inherently sweet! His romance with Rose is like nothing I've read in YA romances!
Kyran and Rose were just perfect together! There was an actual build up, not insta-love! like most books these days. He cared for her, she sought comfort from him. It was all so, so, so perfect!
The kicker? The book isn't even a romance!
Run To Earth has a little of everything which is why I loved it so much. There's action, heart-stopping, mouth dropping action. There's sweet, will-make-you-grin-like-an-idiot romance. There's heartbreak, angst, lol-funny scenes and most of all, it's a book that will leave you thinking for days after you finish it.
I cannot wait for the second book!
Join the madness and get yourself lost in the pages of this incredible book!
Okay, I don't know what to say except for: I loved it! I couldn't put the book down, not even for a second. I was really immersed in the story and you have to consider that I had high expectations - I was wanting to read the book since 2014 and had to import to read the book (because I don't live in the USA), it was really expensive but I don't regret it, not for a moment. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS BELOW (a few, but still): I could talk about the story - that was one of bests I have ever read - but I loved the characters even more. Aaron is the protagonist and one of my favorite characters. He is a normal boy, except for the part the has powers - ops. He is funny and smart, in his own way, and very leal. And he just feels things so deeply (but without getting annoying and dramatic) and always tries to see the best in everyone. He is the type of hero that will sacrifice himself to save his friend and family, but not jump in every damn dangerous thing just to prove he can do it. My other favorite character was Kyran. In the start, he tries to not get himself involved with Aaron and his friends. But more and more he grown found of them - at least of Aaron and Rose. He is very brave, isn't afraid of speaking his mind. He is a little arrogant but, damn, you can't stop yourself from loving him. I fall hard for him. I would turn pages, hoping he would appear. He just takes your breath away. Sam and Rose are twins and friends of Aaron. Because of a tragedy, they end up in a new realm that they don't know about. And since they don't have powers (are just humans), the twins had to suffer a little with prejudice. There were a lot of moments that they could have been angry with Aaron, but they choose to be at this side. Their loyalty made me like them very much. Sam is very funny also and Rose is very intelligent - she gives the bests advice to Aaron. Skyler is an ass, I admit. Most part of the book, you want him to die. Still, there was times that is clear that he has a caring side and I just loved it. It's like, everyday he'll pick on you, but when you really needed, he will be there to save you. His background story is interesting too. I hope one day he and Aaron become friends. I want to read more about him and about Ella too. I just want to stay: If you haven't read the book, what the hell are you doing?! Just read the damn book -- and please, if you know how to drawn, I really want to see a fanart of the book.
I read this book around a year back and I'd told the author that I'd review it and after so much time, I finally got around it. This book was amazing. It's the story of a 14 year old boy who finds out about a whole new world which he didn't know existed. And this premise may sound familiar but it's different. The boy suddenly doesn't develop super powers and saves everybody. No, he doesn't. The world the author created was pretty good. I loved Aaron. His character was very realistic. It's like I can feel the emotions running through the boy. When the boy is frustrated and wants to find out more about this whole world, so do I. There is enough action, mystery and twists to keep you wanting for more. I enjoyed it. Along with Aaron, even I was feeling impatient to know everything. I enjoyed viewing the world from his eyes. Enter Rose and Sam, his best friends. Damn, I feel so sorry for them, especially Rose. I loved Sam's humor and Rose's character too. They're awfully strong for having been ripped apart from their world in the blink of an eye and in a world they have no place in. I have to say, Chris and Kate got on my nerves a lot. To have left, Aaron to deal with everything without giving him any explanation. I have mixed feelings about Skyler. And finally, Kyran. From the moment he was introduced I knew I'd love him. He was badass, sassy and could kick your ass any day. I loved, LOVED the relationship between Aaron and Kyran. Damn, it was awesome. I enjoyed every scene with these two together. Especially, one particular one in which Aaron makes a complete fool of himself. I laughed so hard. My only complaint about the book is the romance- I didn't really feel anything between Kyran and Rose. But it was just the first book, hope it gets better! And that fucking plot twist. I can't lie, Mazhar's fanfic got me to this book and I still DIDN'T SEE that coming. I just sat devising theories trying to explain why what happened, happened. I still can't believe it. I'm in denial (I didn't read Playing with fire). Congratulations, Mazhar you left me speechless again.
Five stars. I definitely rate this book five glorious, golden stars. I have not read something this good in quiet awhile. I got bored with the same basic YA books that kept appearing everywhere. I actually stopped reading for a while, hoping and praying that something new and original could catch my attention. Well, it happened. This book right here. I don’t even remember how I came across Run to Earth, but after reading reviews and seeing how everyone loved it. I thought I’d give it a try.
Two days ago I opened the front cover of this book not knowing what I was going to expect, and yesterday I turned the last page over and with an extremely shocked face I sat stunned for a moment. What. Just. Happened. I seriously did not expect THAT.
S.F. Mazhar did an amazing job creating all the aspects of this story. It was well written and the characters were so believable that they could be real. I found this to be different, original, and a quite refreshing read.
Aaron just turned fourteen years old when the world he knows comes crumbling down around him. With his two best friends, twins Rose and Sam, Aaron is quite literally taken from one world to another. Thrust into a world he never knew and where his family name is well known, Aaron’s family’s reception is not taken to very kindly. Aaron, Rose, Sam, Ella, Skylar, and Kyran are all brilliantly written characters. From the supportive best friends, extremely confused and stressed main character, the jerk, the kind hearted badboy, and the girl who takes nothing from no one, I saw them all grow and change along the way. There were moments where you just wanted to give everyone a hug, moments where you wanted to cry, moments where you wanted to take up arms and run with them to kick some major butt, and of course, moments of complete and utter shock when the plot twists into something you certainly did not expect.
I would definitely recommend this book. I thought it was absolutely amazing. I have already ordered the second book.
All Aaron Adams wants is a fourteenth birthday party. It doesn't even have to be anything major. Just his friends the twins, Sam and Rose, and maybe even the next door neighbor girl, Rebecca. But his parents don't agree, and continue keeping him inside the house. When the opportunity to sneak out for a couple hours is given by Sam and Rose, Aaron doesn't realize that his decision to go will change his life. I had previously fell in love with Mazhar's "Darkness Within" trilogy and felt like I needed to support one of my favorite authors. I knew it'd be a good book, but I didn't realize how amazing of a book it'd be. I loved (and got extremely frustrated) with how in the dark Aaron was kept. The world wasn't suddenly explained in a huge information dump, it was slowly strung out to keep things suspenseful. The main character, Aaron grew throughout the story. It was great to see how he went from barely talking to the girl next door to the ending which I had to just smile at what Kyran put Aaron up to. Kyran and the other Hunters, mostly the Elementals were interesting. Kyran is my favorite. Who couldn't love him? Only downside to this book (it's a great, suspenseful read) was the term vamage. I'm still not sold on that word. Everything else though, go ahead. I promise you'll love it.
Loved the book, was an amazing read. Did not think I would read it all as that was actually the first book I read in years! It was so hard to put the book away every night as I was eager to read more and more. I was so engrossed into the story. Whilst reading it u can imagine it all very easily. The description written by the author allows u to vision it like a movie. I instantly had images in my head of all the characters and even the place. The story is written from a characters view which makes it is easier for us to understand, as Aaron comes from the human world into a different world which is different to ours. It also makes us see it from the 'normal' side where we don't use weapons or forced to but in other places around the world there are youngsters that need to just to get by or something that has always happened. For instance the third world countries.. At that moment in time u do think as a reader that were not used to weapons or fighting but others in other places have no choice. The story is written in a very clever way.. But in the end I was shocked. I can't believe the author wrote it in that way..! It wasn't something that was expected! All in all, I loved it and very much looking forward to the next one!!
Love this book. I couldn't put it down as soon as I started reading it. This book is about Aaron Adams; a 14 year old boy who is thrown into a new world that he didn't know he was supposed to be a part of. I love all of the characters. All of them have depth and are not one-dimensional. I savor it by reading it as slow as I possibly can so I can try to decipher the reasons why each character is the way he/she is and the reasoning behind everything that he/she does. I find that almost every sentence written has a deeper meaning behind it. I love to see Aaron's apprehension in becoming a part of this new world & his growth as a person and as a mage. I can't wait to read the 2nd book. I hope it comes out soon. :)
WOW! Ok, so I picked up this book due to all the wonderful reviews and thought to myself why not I'll give it a go!!
At first it seemed kind of slow moving, there is a lot of details, character building and bonding.. I mean a lot... which don't get me wrong is completely essential to this story, it's necessary!!
HOWEVER THAT FREAKING B.O.M.B. That's dropped!! OMFG, I sat there mouth jaw dropped
I read this book in a day. From the moment I started, to the very end, I was hooked. The characters are engaging, the plot is amazing. There is action and adventure, friends and enemies, a little bit of romance and lots of fighting! I love the developing relationships between Aaron and the residents of his new world. I cannot wait to read the next instalment!!
I loved this book. I am a big fan of YA but have often been disappointed - not this time it kept my attention from start to finish and I can't wait for the next book. I know a lot of books use magic and the elements to tell a story so it is hard to do something new but I think that this is achieved and I didn't see the twist in the end.
Amazing! Run to earth is a great book that keeps you hooked throughout. The description of the mage world and characters were fantastic. I read this as part of a book club and had the chance to sit and talk with the author which was the icing on the cake. What a twist at the end and the cliff hanger has got me desperate to read Playing with Fire.
Amazing book with an interesting universe and attaching characters (Kyran *_*), some chapters were a bit slow paced but my god this ending... I can't wait to read Playing with fire!!!
This book is difficult to rate objectively for me since there are so much similarities to The Dark Prince trilogy that this author wrote as Kurinoone. I wanted to read the Power of Four series as I enjoyed her previous work for the originality of her plot lines and the depth of her characters. Unfortunately, I find myself disappointed because these two elements, that made me follow her previous work, are the same that are holding me back with the Power of Four series.
The plot line of the entire Power of Four series is the same as The Darkness Within, the first tome of The Dark Prince trilogy. Don't get me wrong, this plot line is fantastic, but there a no differences with TDW. The plot line is so similar to TDW that everything that happens regarding that storyline is very predictable. As I write this, the fourth book is not yet published, but I have a pretty strong feeling that it will end the same as TDW did; the first 3 books of the Power of Four are certainly pointing in that direction.
As for the characters, the similarities between Power of Four and The Dark Prince are astounding. I can't get out of my head how Aaron (POF) is the same character as Damien (TDP). Same as Kyrian (POF) with Harry (TDP), or even Skyler (POF) and Blake (TDP). As much as I love Aaron and Kyrian as characters, I was hoping for different ones from the author, not the same as TDP.
Despite these factors, I still enjoyed reading these books. The world created by Mazhar is innovative, there is lots of action and adventure, and, as all her work, it is well written. The series is a page turner and there is a good consistency in the rythm of the action. Beware though, she is quite prone to cliffhangers. I would recommend to anyone who never read The Dark Prince trilogy.
