Contains the first three books of the Nate Temple series as well as the prequel Fairy Tale
OBSIDIAN SON (Book 1) A city that doesn't believe in magic. A weredragon invasion. Good thing this reckless playboy is a wizard...
It’s been said that monsters cry when a good man goes to war. But they should run screaming like little school girls when that man is secretly a wizard, and maybe not necessarily good…
Nate Temple’s all-consuming quest to avenge his parents is temporarily put on hold when shape-shifting dragons invade St. Louis. And perhaps cow-tipping the Minotaur for answers might not have been Nate’s smartest opening move, because now every flavor of supernatural thug from our childhood nightmares is gunning for him. Nate learns that the only way to save his city from these creatures is to murder his best friend…
BLOOD DEBTS (Book 2) A Wizard, an Angel, and a Horseman of the Apocalypse walk into a bar...
The ancient pact between mankind, Heaven, and Hell has been broken. And this upstart wizard’s quest for vengeance may have just kicked off Armageddon. So, time for a drink... or maybe two.
Already plagued with sinister night terrors that could qualify him as a card-carrying psychopathic insomniac, Nate can barely even manage to put his pants on in the morning, let alone pick teams for the Apocalypse.
But when he’s framed as a demon sympathizer, condemned by the Armies of Heaven, and hunted down by both his allies and the Four Horsemen, this wizard doesn’t think it can get any worse…
Then they take away his magic. And a wizard without magic stands no chance against the forces of Heaven and Hell…
GRIMM (Book 3) The Brothers Grimm - legendary supernatural assassins - have escaped their prison, and their first day in St. Louis could be Nate Temple's last...
Sharing a beer with Death – one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse – really put a few things into perspective for this foul-mouthed, billionaire wizard. Like finally strapping on the boots to propose to his girlfriend.
But assassination contracts have a way of putting wedding plans on hold. Perhaps permanently. And with the entire wedding party on the bloodthirsty Grimm’s hit-list, and his family fortune in jeopardy, Nate realizes they can’t run and they can’t hide. So, time to do magic and stuff…
When magic, claws, and teeth dance to the song of war, the only thing left to learn is who lives and who dies. And if Nate can live with the consequences.
No wonder a guy is terrified to propose…
FAIRY TALE (Bonus Novella) A psychotic ginger vampire. A demonic rooster horse. The Brothers Grimm. A young wizard just trying to buy an old book...
Grimm's Fairy Tales is not the collection of innocent bedtime stories Nate assumed, but is instead the keys to a veritable prison housing the most dangerous, bloodthirsty hit men of the supernatural community. And now the gates are open.
This young wizard must find a way to lock them back up and hide the book forever before the supernatural community at large gets annihilated...

Now, let's talk about this specimen of a man named Shayne...
Shayne Silvers writes the "Nate Temple Series" which features a foul-mouthed, flawed, young wizard with a chip on his shoulder attempting to protect St. Louis from the various nasties we all know and fear from our childhood bedtime stories.
Nate's been known to suckerpunch an Angel, cow-tip the Minotaur, and steal Death's horse in order to prove his point. His utter disregard for consequences and self-preservation will have you laughing and cringing on the edge of your seat.
But he has a lot to learn. Namely, how not to be so big of an A-Hole.
Shayne holds two high-ranking black belts, and enjoys conversing about anything Marvel, Magical, or Mythological. You might find him writing in a coffee shop near you, cackling madly into his computer screen while pounding shots of espresso.
The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series: Books 1-3 (The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series Boxset) by Shayne Silvers is the best box set I have bought in a long time.
Obsidian Son (The Temple Chronicles #1) by Shayne Silvers is truly a super awesome book and I stopped midway through the book and bought the rest of the books, yes, it is that good! Plus it is all happening near my home town so of course I will enjoy it more. There is sooo much action, fantasy/magic/shifters/creatures of all kinds that any respecting fantasy lover will adore this book! The wit and smart dialogue will keep you on your toes, there is a mystery or two, a romance or two, and more dragons then you can count. A super woman, a werewolf cop, and a wizard billionaire. Gargoyles, unicorns, and Minotaurs and in the book too. Can't forget them. There is so much and it is soooo fun. LOVED IT!!! Too bad 5 stars is all you can give. Great plot, exciting characters, and never, ever boring!
Blood Debts (The Temple Chronicles #2) by Shayne Silvers is sooo awesome. Nate is some real trouble this time. The wizards take away his powers when he needs it most. Not only the normal crazy creatures of the night are after him but the super crazies are. The angels are after him because they think he killed one of their own. The wizards think this is a good time to off him and he is SOL, until .... well, this isn't a book report. So much action, suspense, snarky come backs, humor, and crazy situations keeps this book going out of control till the reader is giggling and having to much fun to want to see the end. But all good things do come to the end, unfortunely. Awesome.
Grimm: A Novel In The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series (The Temple Chronicles #3) by Shayne Silvers is such an awesome book! So were the others but this one had me worried there for a bit in the book, DON'T DO THAT TO YOUR READERS, SOME HAVE WEAK HEARTS!!! Man, I love these books. On to read the next one...they are soooo freaking addictive. Weres, vamps, Death, Angels, a Minotaur, and fairies, and .... you get the picture. I don't think you really do unless you read the books because they are NOT what you imagine. Not in the least. Come, join the Nate Temple team, we are all strange here but boy do we love it!!!!!
Fairy Tale: A Novella in The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series (The Temple Chronicles) by Shayne Silvers is a great addition to the series. I read it out of order and it was still great. It is really the prequel to the series. It comes in the box set so read this first. It explains how Nate gets the book store and all the craziness that went along with it. Super exciting story there! Wow! I have read all of Jim Butcher's books and love them but I love these better. Wonderful books!
The character does so many contradictory things. He wants to keep the police out of things, then baits them for fun. He also seems to be a prodigy at nearly everything. He’d be a male Mary Sue except for the fact that he does occasionally suffer the consequences of his actions. There are demons who leave Nate alive pretty much ‘just because’ which is the biggest “uh, I dunno” a writer can use. Someone grabs him by his bloody jacket just after he threw it away. There are a lot of mistakes like this throughout the series.
In book two, there are finally a few good quotes, although overall the dialogue was pretty terrible. Also, I think that when your new girlfriend threatens to chase you down and beat you up if you don’t tell her every last one of your secrets in three days, then maybe you shouldn’t go out with her. I also find it difficult to believe that the author has ever met a woman, given how he depicts them.
Anyway, it probably now seems as though I should have given an even lower score given how I feel about all of the above. But the truth is, there’s an awful lot of creativity in here. There’s plenty of exciting adventure. The author clearly has a lot of talent to work with, and I very much hope he’ll put some effort into acquiring the kind of skill that will hone that talent to a fantastic shine. I also hope he’ll learn that women are just people too, but we’ll see.
Enjoy purple prose and weird narrative? Cool, march right ahead. Can’t take how the author approaches women and can’t enjoy the weirdness? Slide on past.
I don't like leaving bad reviews on books, but ... I just can't get into Nate Temple. He's like Batman with magic, if Batman was a conceited arrogant jerk who was Too Stupid To Live. I have other urban fantasy to read. Did not finish.
Just finished reading “Fairy Tale: A Novella in the Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series” by Shayne Silvers. A short prequel to “Obsidian Son” available in the box set or if like myself you are a subscriber to Shayne’s readers group. This gives some background on how and why the bookstore (Plato’s Cove) started. “Hey, folks. Magic is dangerous. It plays for keeps.” I’m really enjoying this Supernatural Thriller series and have already started reading “Blood Debt” Book 2 in this series.
Synopsis: “A psychotic ginger vampire. A demonic rooster horse. The Brothers Grimm. One wizard with authority issues. Grimm's Fairy Tales is not the collection of innocent bedtime stories Nate assumed, but is instead the keys to a veritable prison housing the most dangerous, bloodthirsty hit men of the supernatural community. And now the gates are open. Nate must find a way to lock them back up and hide the book forever before the supernatural community at large gets annihilated.”
By far the best series I've had the occasion to start lately. I was not expecting much out of it, having picked it randomly. Oh boy, can Shayne Silvers deliver! His approach to "urban fantasy", and more specifically the world of wizardry (with your lot of werewolves, vampires and other classics) is superb. I grew impressed after each volume at how Shayne can renew the genre with subtle borrowing from Greek mythology or even the Genesis. Simply masterful, and a riveting story where Nate Temple grows into a character I was not expecting. I can safely say the next volumes are gonna be purchased very quickly :-)
Loved it. This is the first book i have read from this author. I picked up this book because I read a blurb about Nate Temple being as good as Jim Butcher's ... Dresden Files.. It wasn't an exaggeration. WOW
I am hooked.
This is definitely a fairy tale for adults. I am glad there are Wizards about to handle the monsters.
I recieved this book as a gift. Thank you
Merged review:
What a great bargain. All of Nate Temple's adventures in ine set. To include one not available yet.
Nate Temple is a billionaire wizard with all kinds of crazy friends and scary enemies. He lives in St Louis and protects the citizens as best as he can.
I loved this series and I'm looking forward to more of his adventures. I'm sure there will be more fairy tale creatures will show up to keep him from being bored.
What I like about this series: The smart-ass Tony-Stark-esque hero, Nate Temple. All his friends. The relationships among them. The very broad range of fantasy characters. The creative ways Nate evades certain death.
What I dislike about this series: Not enough time for Nate to learn his powers, catch his breath, or develop relationships between the action. It's 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds, every book. When the reader has trouble with a fantasy plot line being believable, the author has gone too far, too fast. I have a feeling all the books are going to be this way, which is annoying, because the characters are very interesting.
I liked the stories, imaginative and plenty of action with a healthy dose of humor. I liked the supporting cast. I can see the lead character, Nate Temple being arrogant, growing up the sole heir of a billionaire business and being a powerful wizard could do that to you. He is supposed to have a genius level IQ and have an eidetic memory so the frequent immature , very juvenile (think pre-teen boy here) antics of his just don’t work (for me. Please let Nate grow up a little and the stories will be even better!
A young smarmy Wizard finds out he doesn't know it all, follow his adventures....
An excellent start for this author in the wizardry world, if you love Harry Dresden ( and the other Harry too) you will love Nate Temple and his attitude towards authority and everyone else, because he just wants to live his life how he wants and won't be bullied by anyone to change or will he? A must-read can't wait for next book next month.
So I needed these books.. I started with the Feathers and fire series and they were really good but I felt like I was missing some of the inside jokes.... So these ticked all the boxes for me. I recommend starting with Nate's story. Fascinating story line. Great snark. I Laughed hard at Kharon's joke! I'm already on to 4-6
This is supposed to be like Dresden Files, but I haven't read those so I don't know about that. The main character is a wizard, and a billionaire, but a lot of the time he just seemed to throw money at problems, which got irritating. I also didn't like how he was mean to his friends at times. I've read all four books and I'm still not sure I'd want to be his friend.
I really enjoyed these and as a former Dresdon fan, these kept me up late too. Great mix of myth and magic. I am waiting with baited breath for the next. Thanks for the heros, laughs and tears and keep writing.
I have to admire the ambition with which an author sets out to write a genius-IQ'd, witty millionaire wizard from a first person perspective. Unfortunately, nothing the MC did, or said, convinced me that he was funny or intelligent in any particular way, despite the frequent outbursts of atmosphere-destroying uproarious laughter his friends - and occasionally enemies - were apparently inspired to. It's quite possible that he's an entirely unreliable narrator, and his 'friends' are all either into his money or his power and are simply buttering him up.
He's quite frequently outwitted and prevails by luck and the goodwill of others, and falls into such obvious traps I felt as if I was sitting in a pantomime audience shouting "Look behind you!", while the actors mug and caper off in the wrong direction.
It also suffered from typos and inconsistences in detail that a proof reader should have spotted (such as picking someone up by a jacket they had just previously dropped, and a sleeping character opening one eye and winking). The MC does a lot of things off-screen to the reader - we miss out on what could be great character development, such as him interacting with his parents after they return.
I wasn't left with a sense that I gained anything from reading these books; no interesting vocabulary or sound bites, no new perspectives on life and death, heaven or hell to consider as the MC cackhandedly bumbles through all of the above, smirking and flirting and getting his arse handed to him until the universe takes pity.
I did rather want to like these. I do admire the ambition behind them and the plot is outrageously creative but the execution falls short. Perhaps they were written too fast. I'm fairly sure the author attempts to write strong female characters, but they still come across as entirely defined by their attractiveness and sexual relationships. As with the MC, any intelligence is abstractly described rather than demonstrated through action or dialogue.
I hope these early books represent the start of a learning curve for the author, as they show potential, but I don't think I will be picking up the rest.

Shayne Silvers continues to prove why he’s a powerhouse in urban fantasy with his latest books, delivering a wild emotional roller coaster across every installment. Each book is a perfect blend of heart-pounding action, razor-sharp wit, and emotional depth that keeps readers completely hooked.
From the very first page, the action kicks into high gear and never slows down. Silvers masterfully crafts unexpected twist after twist, ensuring that just when you think you’ve figured it out, another surprise turns the story on its head. His storytelling keeps you on edge, making each book impossible to put down.
The characters are as sharp and engaging as ever. Whether it’s Nate Temple’s signature sarcasm or other fan-favorite characters stepping into the spotlight, their development and interactions add layers of depth to the chaos. The humor is always on point, keeping things light even in the darkest moments, but the emotional weight is never lost.
And then there are the endings—deeply satisfying yet leaving just enough unanswered questions to make you crave the next book. Silvers knows exactly how to wrap up key plotlines while setting the stage for even bigger things to come.
If you're a fan of action-packed urban fantasy filled with magic, mayhem, and larger-than-life characters, these books are absolute must-reads. Silvers delivers every time, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
In the prequel novella to the Nate Temple series we find out why Nate owns a bookstore. In typical Nate fashion it's not just because he likes books. The whole thing starts innocently enough with Nate attending an auction to obtain an original copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales.
I got this e book because I signed up for Shayne Silvers news letter and received a free copy of this novella to introduce me to his work. No strings attached, no requirements of any kind not even a promise for a review. But I am happy to give one. I was brought into a world of a young wizard, well early twenties, very powerful, from a long line of wizards. He owns a bookstore dealing in ancient books that just so happen to be linked in one way or another with magic, or magical beings. But only those beings know that. He finds special books for his special clientele and is in the middle of getting such a book for one of them at an auction when things go terribly wrong. The story is so intriguing, it just grabs you. I could not put the book down. It was so well written. You are introduced to other magical beings, werewolves, dragons, and also some " regulars ". I don't want to spoil all your fun. But believe me when I tell you, this book is very much worth the read and a very nice introduction to this character and the series.
Having not read any books by Shayne Silvers, I wasn't sure what to expect. Shayne's style is quite different from the usual fantasy books I read. Nate Temple is an obnoxious, hard drinking, sarcastic magical who swears often, as do his friends and girlfriend (anyone who dates Nate would end up swearing) and has a knack of doing things the hard way! Angel's, nephilim and demons are as sneaky and violent as each other. I often found myself unable to put the book down even though it being long past midnight. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series, discovering what troubles Nate manages to attract this time. A good gritty read! Ten out of ten!
I am a big fan of another wizard in a very popular series which to date spans 15 novels and several short stories and novellas as well as graphic novels so I am a little hard to please when it comes to other similar magic wielding characters in urban settings. Too many of those other characters I have tried to read about are pathetic attempts to create a similar but unique wizard character in a similar but unique urban setting. Many of those attempts are huge failures.
Having been disappointed many times after trying a story by a new or unfamiliar writer of urban fantasy wizards, I have become cautious about those book purchases, and I only bought the 3 book Nate Temple set with the added short story because it was on sale at a fantastic couldn't-pass-up price.
With the first book, I was impressed that the Nate Temple character was unique with his magic, mannerisms and back story. There are some glitches in the editing and some places in the story where I wondered "why" or "what" or "how" but the overall plot kept me interested in what was happening to Nate and the fast pace carried my interest from page to page and book to book.
I enjoyed this set enough to want to keep reading about Nate. I purchased book 4, Silver Tongue.
Loved the series can't put it down but as a Christian felt guilty because of the cursing so I mentally blank out the bad words because the storyline is awesome. Would have given 5 star's if I didn't run into frustrating incidents where one minute he had this power to do something and in the very next book he doesn't have the power to do it or conveniently forgets like all the times he was in trouble and could have jumped to someplace else and just didn't kind of hard to understand that one but the rest of the story line was awesome and I will keep reading
Plenty of action, very good dialogue & while Nate Temple is a bit of a douche sometimes, he is a likable one & you get to see that he is not as brash & confident as he acts.
There is a bit of OP'ness, but it is balanced nicely with seriously powerful baddies. If the power levels get much higher, this will be hitting Dragonball Z levels of destruction, but with better dialogue & less chatting when they should be fighting, lol.
This is what Dresden could be if he was born to wealth, though I think Dresden wins in the witty department, but Temple definitely wins in the pop culture reference department.
A whole heck of a lot happens in this book. Some good, some bad, some happy, some sad. I love Nate and the gang. However, part of me feels like there was almost too much going on in this book. The other part thinks everything was tidied up by the end.... be happy. I think I’m going to have to check out the next book and see what the fallout is.
Having said all of that, reading this while having Covid and finishing it up after Covid went away may have been the issue with being overwhelmed by all the happenings. One thing is for certain, Nate would definitely be a guy to have on your side.
The moves of this guy would make any of his friends wary and proud. Sometimes danger is part of the job description when you're connected with Temple....other times I think he looks for it and goes seeking adventures to test his mettle. Chicken meet egg! Nate Temple, I see you and am ready for more. Even....if I worry whether actions taken may darken who you are beyond repair. Right, some things just shouldn't be done by a hero. Right?

NO SPOILERS
The Nate Temple Series: Boxset Book 1 was a welcomed surprise. It was witty, snarky, and action packed. All thanks to our rogue Nate Temple. Each book contained a great cast of characters, settings, and pantheon of deities.
Everything one might want in an Urban fantasy story, can be found in this series. And some. Great setup and delivery in the 3 books and novella.
First thing, I cared about the characters, and liked the world they lived in. I wanted to go back there often. Putting all three books together just made it that much easier for me to find, thus more likely to continue reading. Fun reading, exciting story enough twists to make it suspenseful. Big plus, I appreciated the lack of raunchy scenes. If the story and characters are strong enough, you don’t really need it. Love and attraction are enough to whet the imagination. Overall a fun read.
I took a chance with this one and am very pleased that I did. Nate Temple is a wizard, from a long line of wizards and he lives in St Louis where he owns a bookstore. Join him in this excellent series as he and his friends - werewolves, vampires, sprites, dragons, unicorns and the Minotaur ... and even Death himself take on the Brothers Grimm who are attempting to eradicate magical folk of all kind from existence. Well done and well worth a look.
An excellent set of stories! Meet Nate Temple, Gunnar, Indy, Dean, Mallory and so many more as you follow the action packed stories with romance and humor. There are plenty of plot twists and the stories just flow. Nate goes through so many changes as you read the books and he manages at times with a great sense of humor. Way too much to say which would spoil the books but you will enjoy reading them!
I have got this through Amazon Kindle and it's different. I first found shayne silvers through reading the fire and ice series and Nate Templeton appears in these books.
The book I have are books 1-3. So far I have read this first one. Where he gets involved dragons, something I ever imagined I would be reading. I like the fact it is varied, never quite sure what is going to happen next. I find myself finishing one book and immediatley wanting to read the next in the series.
The beginnings of a series that will exercise all of your emotions. You never know what to expect next. Mr. Silvers has a very twisted mind (😉) and a whole Facebook group of "freaks". There are 3 different series that all tie together and if you haven't already started the series, I suggest you read them in Templeverse order, not in series order.
Shayne Silvers is a very nice person and is active in his Facebook Group.
