A seductive tale of romance and intrigue from the bestselling author of The Golden Barbarian. Elizabeth Ramsey is trapped in a game of eroticism and deceit, when she becomes involved with Jon Sandell. For Jon possesses the power to read a woman's mind, to touch her soul, to know her every desire . . .

She lives in Georgia and is married. Her son, Roy Johansen, is an Edgar Award-winning screenwriter and novelist. Her daughter, Tamara, serves as her research assistant.

"Last Bridge Home" is the story of Jon and Beth. Basically the story is this: Jon goes to his dead brother's pregnant wife to save her from their mutual enemy Bardot- and ends up falling for her. Now ofcourse there are hurdles as the hero is in love with a pregnant heroine and a villian is on the loose, but.. -The h seemed genuinely in love with her dead husband for the first half -It was sad to see the H repeatedly confessing his love and desires -The whole back story of secret and mystery behind Mark was mind boggling The book lost me in the second 1/2 with the whole sci fi/science voodoo stuff, but I was glad Elizabeth EVENTUALLY fell for Jon. Safe 2/5
I read Iris Johansen in the past--more recently her romantic suspense novels, so I'd forgotten she had this series which is more sci-fi/fantasy romance with a smaller amount of thriller/suspense woven in. I remember some of the characteristics of the Clanad so I'm guessing I've read something from this series previously.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD ***
Elizabeth Ramsey is a pregnant widow when her late husband's "cousin" calls on her. Elizabeth considers her Mill House home and even has a name for the final bridge--something she came up with as a child when she and her father traveled with her concert pianist mother. She calls it the "last bridge home".
The cousin, Jon, comes bearing news that the NIB is interested in Elizabeth and her child because of Mark. Over the course of the story, we find out why this is so and watch Elizabeth and Jon spar as well as fall in love.
It seems Andrew has some of Mark's Garvanian talents and may have been contacting his mother even while in the womb--or at least been sensitive to her mental states and moods. I am not sure if we'll get to see him grow up in the series or if we'll get to see what kind of man he becomes.
This was the most confusing book. I had trouble figuring out what was happening and why, and, more, why was the heroine reacting the way she was? What was happening was finally described about half way through the book. Most of the time my reactions were frustration, bewilderment, and disbelief. Not my kind of book, although I will say I had no moment when I wanted to stop reading. Curiosity was definitely keeping me going.
I had skipped ahead in the Sedikhan series a few books because it was difficult getting my hands on a few to read. Therefore, I had already been introduced to the Clanad in subsequent books, but it was nice to look at a previous generation. The storyline does shine a light on humanity and the fear of those who are different.
read it more than 20 years ago. Was really taken with the Clanad / Sedikhan series. So wanted to re-read to find out if held the same appeal as it did all those years ago. It was thrilling to read then and I'm glad to say that it was still thrilling to read now!!!
Elizabeth meets Jon, the mysterious friend of her late husband, and her whole world turns upside down. Her unborn child, Andrew, is part of an elite group of people whose special powers make them a target. Now they are on the run with only 1 goal: keep Andrew safe.
