She has a fox, cat, dog, cow skull, goat, a boar skull, a deer skull, (that is, unfortunately, falling apart) and the jawbone of an ass. Her prize skull is a mountain lion (legally purchased from a US tannery) hit by a car in the wild.
Her latest love is Japanese maples, and she has managed to collect over thirty.
She and her husband RV, traveling to whitewater rivers to kayak all over the Southeast. Whitewater Kayaking is her very favorite sport, discovered when she was researching her (Gwen Hunter) mystery book, Rapid Descent. She took a lesson and—after a bout of panic attacks from fear of being upside down trapped in a boat—discovered she loved the sport.
Under other pen names, notably, Gwen Hunter, she writes action adventure, mysteries, and thrillers. As Gwen, she is a winner of the WH Smith Literary Award for Fresh Talent in 1995 in the UK, and won a Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award in 2008. As Faith, her books have been on the New York Times and USA Today Bestseller lists, been nominated for various awards and won an Audie Award with Khristine Hvam, among other awards. While Rick is not my favourite person in that world (what an understatement) it was nice to see what PsyLED training is like. Especially now that I'm reading Faith Hunter's other series set in this world Soulwood. <---spoiler for the Soulwood series. Between Pea, Soul, Brute and the case that landed on their laps I could almost forget that Rick is the MC of this one!

Even though I love Jane Yellowrock stories, this one featured the Frenchy cheater at Spook school, and I'm not a fan of Ricky.
One thing though; when did Brute drop out of spook school? In the new book, he's living with Edmund - not working cases with Rick and his team.

I’m not a huge Rick fan, however I did like this story. I loved Pea, Brute is growing on me, and Soul-Rick’s trainer-was a hoot..in a scary kind of way, lol. And Rick himself was actually a bit likeable!

Rick's life has changed so he's being trained for the new phase in his life. At the training, he helps to solve a mystery there. 3-1/2 stars.

Golden Delicious is an audio short story from the Jane Yellowrock series written by Faith Hunter and read by Khristine Hvam. It takes place after the events of the fourth novel, Raven Cursed, and centers on Rick LaFleur, who was bitten by a were-leopard two months prior, and in the midst of training to be an agent for PsyLED. It is first written and collected in An Apple for the Creature anthology.
Golden Delicious is told from the perspective of Rick LaFleur as he is training at the PsyLED academy to become a special agent of the government. When he discovers that students have gone missing, he and his team go on the hunt to find out the reason behind them.
Golden Delicious is written and narrated rather well. It is interesting to see the sort of training that Rick LaFleur went through to became an agent and how he leads his team in an investigation. Although I am not a fan of Rick LaFleur, it is rather interesting reading from his perspective.
All in all, Golden Delicious is a well written, but more importantly, it expanded the wonderful world that is the Jane Yellowrock universe.

Idk about this one; I have a complicated relationship with Rick. I liked his interactions with Pea and Brute (those two were the highlights of this story tbh) but the rest is just- hmmm
Why does he have to have this weird almost sexual tension with all females around him? I'm not really into it. He keeps saying "he's gonna focus on himself etc", he's not acting like it however.
Anywhosies looking forward to Death's Rival and more of Pea💜

Rick (almost were-cat, ex-cop); Soul (mentor/trainer, fae?); Pea (grindylow - to kill Rick or Brute if they give into animal instinct); Brute (werewolf, permanently changed to wolf by angel)… they are training together to prove themselves an effective team to investigate/deal with paranormal... and maintain control over their animal sides)

I'm not the biggest fan of Rick. He's an OK character, but not one I'm invested in, and not one I think is a good MC.
This story, while it could be interesting, fell a little flat for me. A lot of it was focused on Rick being sad or angry about how his life changed, and repeating that comment multiple times.
I have to admit I was a tad bored.

So, this short story is a little different. It is a glimpse of where Rick is at in his journey and some of the choices he is making for the future. From this story, which is about Rick's time at PSYLED training, I could see a spin off series for him or for him and Soul. Possibilities abound and I'd read either of those.

Was a good short story with Rick, Brute and Soul characters. It made me more interested in these characters and what they could do. I could imagine this story being expanded or imagine side stories featuring them doing investigations together.

As my experience proved to be, Rick is not my favorite, but short stories in JY universe told from his pov are the ones I like and enjoy the most.
This covers Rick's training on his new job in PsyLED Spook School for the trainees. He ended up with two furry companions after the events of Raven Cursed - baby grindylow called Pea, and werewolf stuck in his wolf form named Brute by Jane. That's half of cuteness there already. :)

This story was lacking just a little bit of spunk we are used to with Jane. Also no beast. It was interesting to see inside of Rick's mind and what he is feeling and how he views everything that has transpired. Still curious about Soul.(less)
