Emperor Wray Vasteri is the ruler of the Tornian Empire, his House has ruled the Empire ever since the great infection struck over five hundred years ago and he fears he will be the last. The number of compatible females is dwindling faster than anyone knows and if compatible females aren’t found soon their entire civilization will cease to exist. It’s the reason he agreed to meet with Liron the Emperor of the Kaliszian Empire in Kaliszian space. The only reason they crossed paths with a Ganglian ship leaving Tornian space. The only reason the small female was discovered. Could she be what they’ve been searching for?

Kim Teel has had a hard life, at least she thought she had until her parents were suddenly killed and her sister disappears. At nineteen she realizes she’s been protected from all of life’s hardships, been taken care of her entire life, expecting and accepting it, she’d been terribly spoiled. Determined to change her ways, Kim goes looking for her sister only to be captured by the Ganglians and it is then that she learns what happens to the ‘unprotected’ females of the universe.

Wray finds himself drawn to the small female he finds beaten and abused on the Ganglian ship. She resembles a Tornian female but is much smaller. Could she be what he’s been searching for? Wray and Kim are both doing the same thing, trying to survive. But what they find is that there are more important things then just survival. And once they learn that the universe changes forever.

So in the first book we kept hearing about the first Earth girl who had arrived in the Skittle-alien's world, Kim, and how she overcame a lot of crap to become the Empress of this universe. I kept feeling like I was missing a pretty big piece of the puzzle because the references to Kim were like something we were supposed to know, but didn't. Like your parent's anniversary, your dog's birthday, or your friend's phone numbers (without our phones saving them - face it - we are all helpless and would never be heard from again). Sure, it would be nice if we knew those things, and maybe we should, but we don't.

and advanced math. Once you are an adult your brain dumps all of your higher math skills to make room for remembering where random things are left in your house.
"Honey, where are my car keys?"
"Under the bath mat in the kids' bathroom."
"Why?"
"Because the 2 yr old was playing horsey and used the car keys to start the horse and fell in mud and needed a bath and I had to pry them out of her hands while simultaneously refereeing a fight between the 5 & 6 yr olds. So, they ended up under the bath mat." *duh!*

So, this book gave us the history of the emperor, Wray, and his wife, Kim. She went through a big old crap-fest before she met him, then he saves her life. And, then she goes through a big old crap-fest to try and keep him. Poor Kim! Everyone wanted to rape her and kill her. It's like someone put a sticky note on her back or something. She was a walking target.

That's right, she's the George McFly of the Tornian universe. Ouch!

But, Kim is strong and she does a lot of ass-kicking herself. She won't put up with a bunch of misogynistic colorful aliens trying to push her around. And, really, how seriously can you take a guy who is pink? Yeah, he's going to need to be a pretty good fighter to compensate for that. Or, have a sports-car or something. Cuz, guys with giant trucks and sports cars - we all know there is something they are trying to cover for, right girls?

You know we are all thinking it...

This book has a lot of action, fighting, and devious plots along with the alien-smutromance. It is also edited better than the first book which seemed to have been edited by a dyslexic 7 year old with a crayon. So, all in all, it was an enjoyable read in a pretty complex world. I'm looking forward to a lot more of the story.

Full cast narration, including background sounds!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙❤️💚
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍
Character development: 😊😅😟🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Duet Narration

The heroine: Kim - when her sister and her sister’s husband disappear with a group of people, Kim goes looking for them and ends up getting kidnapped by aliens. The alien’s that grab her are Ganglians, a vicious race of aliens that can only get off with a woman when they are inflicting pain. Kim is brutally raped many times by a hairy Ganglian she calls Stinky Bastard. when a group of Tornians find the Ganglian ship in their territory and rescue Kim, who is near death.

The Hero: Wray - he is the Emporer and he immediately feels something for the tiny human who was so mistreated. His race is dwindling since the great plague which killed many of their species. They are cursed by the goddess since an Emporer long ago raped his daughters and ever since then most births result in only males. Now males outnumber females by a huge amount. So much that Tornian females are demanding and only get with males to have a few babies then leave them for another. They need to be given lots of gifts and jewels, which they take with them when they move on, and they are very demanding.

The Story: the goddess appears to Kim and tells her she is the start of something new for the Tornians. Wray immediately starts having feelings for Kim after saving her and taking care of her. They crash landed on a desert planet with a dust storm where they have to hide in a cave for days. Wray immediately sees many differences in Kim from the women of his race, not only in her looks but in her demeanor and her actions.

The story was good. I liked the romance between Kim and Wray, and I really liked the fact that much of it was about the differences in their races and how females are treated in his society. How they are protected so much so that they don’t really speak to men much and they can’t come and go as they please. So, Kim seemed very different since she spoke her mind and looked men in the eyes. She actually cared, which females in Tornian society didn’t do. They were just out for what they could get from males. Though I did think that much of the story and the conversations were overly simplistic and there wasn’t a ton of complexity to the plot.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Bennett Cousins, Commodore James, Laura Jennings, Robert Coltrane, Matt Weight, and Rachel Bieber. This is a full cast narration including background noises and it was done very well. I wish all books would be done like this, I will definitely be listening to more from this series.

Prequel to Grim by the same author.

2.5 stars.
I'm fairly disappointed with this book. Mainly because I so very much adored her first book in this series. Grim

I have to say this book had much better editing than Grim did, but the plot was not holding my attention well. If there is a choice to be made, I have to say I'll take editing issues with a great story any day over good editing and a so-so plot.

I don't want to make excuses for the author, but I do know after Grim's popularity exploded - people were clamoring for MK Eidem to write Wray's story. So I wonder if this book was an author trying to please the masses instead of following her own muse & inspiration. I can't point fingers, as I was one of the crowd who wrote her begging for Wray's story.

This book felt fairly preachy to me. There were multiple veins of preachy. One was racism/elitism. The Tornian's thinking they were above reproach, and no one should sully the genetics by breeding outside of the race. Another preachy avenue was the abuse of women.
Also, there was quite a bit of the "I'm not a (spoiled/rotten) Tornian Female so stop expecting me to behave that way" drama re-hashed.

More of the Goddess's curse is explained, as well as how other races & planets are effected by it. The Goddess makes a more in-person appearance to Kim via her dreams on several occasions.

*** SPOILERS ***

The book seemed to be in two parts:

* Part one was Kim's abduction, abuse by the Ganglian's (which was actually a very short portion of the book) and Wray's rescue of her. Followed by (red shirt) pilot, Wray and Kim crashing on an uninhabited planet. Pilot dies, of course.
There is some kind of massive storm on the planet keeping any shuttles from landing - thus giving Kim and Wray a week alone in their cave to get to know each other.
Wray refrains from telling Kim that he is the Emperor as well as hiding the fact that he washed her while she was still unconscious (kind of a skeevy scene with him fingering the unconscious near-death rape victim he has just rescued).
Kim reflects on her poor past behavior in adolescence and finds her way to forgive and understand Wray's washing her.

* Part two is Wray & Kim's rescue from the uninhabited planet after the storm finally stops. Wray and Kim are separated when the Emperor's warrior's arrive. Two warriors try to rape Kim seeing her as 'available' since she is not a Tornian woman and scenting of Ganglian sex. Wray rescues her but refrains from killing the warriors because the law is on their side. Kim realizes Wray is actually the Emperor and her trust in him is temporarily destroyed. He explains how he wanted her to know the man, not the title. She understand & forgives.
Wray has business on planet Vesta with Lord Reeve. (Co-Conspirator to Lord Bertos from Grim) Drama ensues with Wray's only living son, the two bad warriors and the bad doctor.
Nothing politically gets worked out with the law allowing non-Tornian women to be abused by anyone, but Wray clearly has his eyes opened to the situation. Kim finds out she is pregnant and they decide to keep it to themselves.

Queue present day with baby Destiny nursing and Kim remembering all that's occurred.

** Spoilers **

I knew that reading and enjoying the first book would be too good too be true.
The second book started off in a manner that made me uncomfortable,
very Uncomfortable.
Wray finds Kim and saves her from Slave Traders, ok, we knew that from book one
and in my opinion that was enough background needed on the couple.

Wray knows that Kim has been beaten, abused and raped,
and yet,
the FIRST thing that he does when he gets her alone is to...
bathe her,
fondle her,
feel her up, and
Probe her while she is unconscious.
WTF? Creepy Much!!
What happened to all of his so called Honor ??
The Wray in book 2 was NOT the Wray in book 1.

Kim was too young and annoying for the kind of woman Wray would need, an Empress.
And, Wray was too old and creepy in the beginning of book two for my comfort.
Both characters did a total personailty change from book one.
It is almost as though a different writer wrote the first book ??

Kim was almost the same age as Wray's son,
it would seem that she would have done better mating with his son.

I'm tired of reading novels where the Male Leads are way older than the females,
have had a wife with kids
and
the Female Leads are barely legal.
Why couldn't Kim have been at least 21, 25 years-old, or Older?
Kim could have been older and still had an argument with her sister.

I also had questions about the timeline between Grim's book and Wray's.
Wray saved Kim when she was 19, she became pregnant and in Grim's book
she is about 8 months pregnant, I think...

I did not like the fact that the author went back and wrote Wray and Kim's story.
It made the story line confusing and feel disjointed.
If she really wanted to tell Wray's and Kim story, their story should have been book one,
and Grim's story, book two.
In book one, Wray and Kim had already met and mated, as well as Lord Oryon and Lady Isis.
Ynyr and Abby met in book one and mated,
which makes their story being told after the fact as awkward as Wray and Kim's story.

I don't see why the author would not write books about charcters who have not mated,
like Ynyr's oldest brother Ull, especially since his mother was worried about him finding a good woman.
The author could have also written about Callen and Rebecca
or Tora, Wray's son or..
any of the remaining unmated females on Luda instead of characters who were already mated.

The scenes with the warriors Fala and Gyula also got on my nerves.
Yes, I understand that their behavior led to change,
but for warriors who claimed to have so much Honor, they didn't practice it.

I was very disappointed with this book.

Also, the author does not cover the life expectancy of a Tornian.
Do they have long lives, longer than humans? If so, how much longer?
Will the earth women's lives be extended when they mate with a Tornian?

Callen and Rebecca should have had their story told but it seems that the author has moved on to a new series.

** If I were the author, I would have written
1.)
Wray's book first(it did not have to be a long book, just enough to explain the Tornian Empire, add a little maturity to Kim, and delete the Wray perverted scene in the beginning).
2.)
Grim second,
3.)
Ynyr third (And I would have skipped his mating at the end of Grim's book and start off his book with the ceremony. Lord Oryon and Lady Isis's short story would have been apart of their son's book), and
4.)
the last book would have been Callen and Rebecca's story ending the series and ensuring a way for more earth females to travel to the Tornian Empire.
I can't stand when authors start a new series and leave the first one hanging open indefinitely.

I repeat, this book does not feel as though it was written by the same author who wrote Grim.
- Extremely Disappointed

Re read via audible - increasing rating....

Prior comments:

I am giving this 3 stars because I really like the overarching story of this series and I believe the author is a good storyteller. I admired the heroine. But I had some big issues with Wray in the beginning that clouded my overall enjoyment of the book. But for one of these issues, it would probably have been 4 stars.

Kim had to withstand unspeakable horrors at the hands of her abductors. Wray and his men saved her. They became very attached. I appreciated that they did not jump in the sack in a day. For a rape victim it would be so shocking. Even so it was still quick, but at least they had bonded. I did not like that Wray withheld information, but I understood his reasons and I was totally ok with her forgiving quickly. It did not seem an unforgivable offense. I hated how he handled her attack by his own men, but I got it. He was in a tough spot. I probably would not have forgiven as quickly as her, but I can be a mean bitch that holds a grudge, so I am happy she is better than me.

Clearly it was an uphill battle for Kim to join their society. One that Wray completely underestimated and one she was probably not equipt to really take on. It is clear to me that until Lisa (who IS totally able to handle the battle) comes on the scene in Grim a few months later, not a lot of progress is made. I liked the interplay of the Goddess and Warrior. The dead ex did not bother me as much as in Grim, but I still wish there were fewer references and comparisons.

I am glad I did not read this before Grim because I may not have continued the series. The men are total assholes. The women are worse, but we do not see a lot of them. But having read and loved Grim, I was willing to push through this book.

My biggest issue may not bother most people so I am not making a big deal of it. But for those who have to know, here it is...

And another reread....one of my favorite of all time. I'm sure I will continue to reread it.

Original review 2015
This was a re-read for me. Not sure if it's the 3rd or 4th time but I still love it. I love the romance and how Kim grows from a selfish, spoiled brat to an amazing, strong woman. Wray is one of my all time favorite heros. He is so patient and loving. He is just what Kim needs and she is just what he needs. I love M.K. Eidem and I love this series.

A quick note in lieu of a review. To everyone that read the first one, this one is vastly improved in editing, grammatical errors etc. It's also thoroughly enjoyable as well as a great addition to the alien romance category.

I have raged and cracked myself up in equal parts writing this looonnng review because the book was soooo bad. I feel like the author cheated me out of a good book.
description

My bubble just burst. When I read Grim, I was happy that I had found a book that was part of a series I could grow to like/love. While it wasn't perfect, Grim had potential. It had characters I loved and it was written at an acceptable pace.

My fault for thinking that Wray would be at least as good if not better than Grim. The book started well enough and was Ok-ish till Wray and Kim left the cave. They should have never left the damn cave. Never. Because after that the book was just nonsensical to the point of madness. I ll list my grievances in a little while.

The one thing that was running through my mind after finishing this book was WHY? WHY DID WE NEED THIS BOOK? It did not reveal anything that was not already in Grim. Seriously, not a single new thing. Nope.
description

Ok, here comes my list. (CONTAINS SPOILERS) duh

1. I was probably wearing my rose tinted glasses while I was reading Grim. But even if I hadn't been, I would have accepted it. But in Wray, all bets were off from the beginning. Because Kim decided to say "I love you". Why, you ask, this irritated me to no end? Because she had just been rescued from an alien ship, where she was raped for more than a week and then having woken up, finds another huge alien with her. A couple of days and then kaboooooom she loves him. I think she was either disturbed or the FRICK-UP fairy was strong with that one. Am i being too harsh here? Ok I am letting this one slide.

2. Another thing I couldn't stand was the idiotic dialogues -_- Oh my god!. Here is an example. Your love of the life and son are drowning, how do you react?

Tora!His First Male!
Kim!! His Love!!

This was actually how it was written. For real. It was a part of Wray's inner monologue.
I am going to try this the next time something happens,

Rose! My tenth goldfish!!
description

3. Wray is the Emperor of all Civilized Planets. If it wasn't mentioned, I wouldn't know because no on gives a Shit or Respects his orders. Again for example,

Wray:She is Kim, the Empress
Anyone other than Wray or Kim: No she is not.

This is repeated with every single person in the book. Every single one. Sometimes twice. Or thrice. You get my point.

4. The crap about respecting females? No one seems to do that other than the Main character and his sidekick. I don't want to waste my time on pointing out the 1008 times where this happens.

Also all Tornian females are stuck up bishes, so much so it has become the norm for males to assume the same without thought. So if you happen to visit the Tornian World and ask a male "How are you?" he would probably genuflect and gaze at you in wonder for-fricking-ever and build you a temple or something.

5. There is no need for a Frick-Up Fairy(FUF) for this book, because the Goddess plays it perfectly. I
can't help but say it again, The Frick-up Fairy is strong with this one. Again here is an example. This was said by the Goddess/FUF right after Kim goes through a deadly drowning and escaping by a hairs breadth.

Goddess/FUF: What about your warrior?
Kim:What warrior?
Goddess/FUF: Have you forgotten him so easily? Perhaps you aren't the right female for my new beginning.

New beginning?I mean seriously? Someone commits a crime, so instead of punishing the concerned ones, she damns three planets. For 500 fricking years. She even admits that cursing them was a mistake. There will be no need for a new beginning if not for her idiocy. But how does she act? Like a FU.

I am pretty sure I can go even further, but these are the main thingies that made me rate this book 1 star.

One may ask why I did not add this to my Dnf death bed and move on, but I wanted to see how much suckier this book could get and in doing so I have become an unwilling masochist.

Phew. I am done with this.

Wray is book two in the Tornians series by M.K. Eidem.

In the first book in the series, we meet Grim and Lisa. In this book we jump back in time a few months to see how Emperor Wray, meet Kim, the human woman, who changed everything. What happens here leads us to the events in the first book in the Tornians series.

I wasn't sure if I would read Wray's story; because I had read Grim's and then once I finished realized that Wray, at least in my mind, should have been the first book in the series. Now, I can say that both books Grim and Wray can stand on their own and you can read them in any order.

These aren’t the greatest books, but they give me my sexy protective alien fix. Their are grammar and spelling errors, plus plot holes and the world doesn’t entirely make sense. But, its alien science fiction and not everything will make sense or work, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoy the books. What I love about this series is the romance. There is just something about these sexy alien warriors adoring their females that keeps me coming back for more.

I had a lovely time meeting Emperor Wray and Kim's story. There are forces trying to keep them apart, but in the end they get their HEA and a special surprise.

Wray was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading on in the Tornians series and seeing what befalls other Tornians and human women that have ended up in this universe.

Wray is the second book in the Tornian series and was the last book of the series that I read (which doesn't count the novellas) and I have to say that even though I adored this couple in so many ways especially in the ways that we see them in book one Wray. I will say that this is probably my least favorite book of the series. Not saying I didn't enjoy this book because I truly loved it, but it didn't have the thrill or chemistry that I felt in the other books but there are some unique dynamics in this story that the others books don't have.

Wray begins with our heroine, Kim, while searching for her missing sister and her brother in law is kidnapped by Ganglians, where she is raped and beaten and when Wray comes across the Ganglian ship and rescue the slaves on the ship, he finds Kim barely alive. He heals most of her injuries until they are attacked and their shuttle is forced to set down on a planet. This is where the relationship between Wray and Kim really develops and some real intense feelings form between them. Once Wray's men find him and Kim, this is where Wray tells Kim the truth about who he really is....an emperor and that he wants Kim as his empress. And we see that Kim doesn't take Wray not telling her the truth very well. But I did like the way that this hero grovels when he is in the wrong. Wray and Kim work through the delicate politics and treachery of enemies.

This story takes place right before Grim (the first book in the series) so we get some great background information on a couple that makes an impression on the reader through the books. I did enjoy seeing this story develop in many ways, and seeing Kim (normal human being) work through her new life and responsibilities and showing the Tornian's that there is another and better way to live. We see some more in-depth knowledge of the Tornian culture and history and why they were cursed by the "goddess". Another aspect I enjoyed seeing was Tora. Tora is Wray's son, who is full grown and I just love the way that Kim wins him over, which isn't easy. Kim is so different from the females they know and I had a blast seeing her strength come through and stand on her own and strive for a different and better way for them to live.

Overall I found Wray to be an enjoyable read that takes us deeper into this Tornian world and story of immense character growth and a love story you can delve into!!

Aaaaand here we have the 2nd installment of the Tornians where it's still just like the #1 Grim for it is: "your average everyday space aliens rurrrrmance where the chick gets stolen from Earth (because of course there aren't enough breedable women for alien dudes) (don't remember the reason this one got stolen, but whatevs) and of course the humongous alien dude turns all soft and gooey for her while being still a badass badasser of a space hunk. And let's not forget he's all kinds of important, no average Joe for the main lead, oh noes. Meh."

However, in Tornians #2 we've got no kids, oh noes. We've got an upgrade and thus our hero is a true hero for he saves the chick from evil aliens who kidnapped her first and of course then ensues the rurrrrmance.

The h&h of this book we met in #1 and since that was such an epic & beloved story, of course the masses demanded we get another book for the brother & his human empress. YAY. Meh.

So Wray is actually #1's prologue chronologically. This happened before that. lolz.

All the meh's and jokes aside, Wray actually starts off rather...grim (ROOOOOFL) *ahem* but seriously, the girl gets raped by evil alien and it's not quite overlooked and just breezed over all that fast at the beginning. But of course once rurrrmance starts, all's forgotten, so if someone's trigger-y towards the aforementioned...it might not even trigger this time.

Also, the girl's only 19 yo. Well, at least it's not 17 but for some reason this time that 19 felt kind of too young for me. Just felt like mentioning it.

And the Verse's mystery of -just why one would read it yet read it it does- continues :D

P.S.
In case you came upon this book/review first, to understand it read this one first: Tornians #1: Grim...my review ;D

DNF, I can only take so much of these tedious Tornian books about their insufferable Tornian women, their annoying deity and their boring history on the repetitive loop.
To sum up the beginning, she's in a cave getting a history lesson about a distant galaxy and she is mostly exhausted. She reminisces and talks about her dog warrior more than she does about her own family.

I don't like to get too technical with these books but what I don't get is if their technology is so good how they haven't genetically modified their babies (designer babies) to be able to choose the gender of the baby.

I tried giving this series another shot but it's seriously annoying and the theme doesn't change. I'm fed up with Tornian women and everyone acting shocked whenever the human girl does ANYTHING.

Unfortunately I didn't like this book as much as Grim. It was so disappointed as I really loved Grim. I liked that it told Kim and Wray's story, but Kim really just seemed like a weak heroine with all the crying and being scared. I kept thinking that she was going to be the empress? She really didn't impress me and didn't show me how she could possibly grow to be the empress she needs to be for Wray.

I loved getting to read the story of how Wray and Kim met. I wish we could have seen more from Kim's side of things when the other women from Earth were brought to the planet. So, I wanted a little more but really enjoyed what I did get.

In the first book in the series, we meet Grim and Lisa, in this book we jump back in time a few months and see how the Emperor, Wray, met Kim the human woman who changed everything, leading to the events in the first book.

Kim is barely hanging on to life, she doesn't know how long it has been to the ugly, smelly, hairy aliens have taken her, but all she can feel is the cold and the pain. That is until Wray saves her and starts to take care of her. Despite all she has endured she can't help but fall for the big tough warrior, who shows her only care and gentleness. But, his world is vastly different to hers, females are in short supply and are segregated from the men, only interacting with males when they "Join" and hopefully produce offspring. Lisa refuses to be treated like a cold and uncaring Tornian female much to Wray's delight and dismay... how will his people react when he brings the beautiful yet completely different Kim back to Torino?

I'm reviewing this after having a reread of the series, I was really missing my over-protection, unbearably sweet, yet clueless Tornian males so I decided to get my fix by read the series again whilst I wait for another book to be brought out. Does this book make me wish I could get abducted and be used as a Tornian brides? Why yes, yes it does.

So, I admit, these aren't the greatest books in the world, aside from the occasional spelling or grammar error, some of the story has plot holes miles wild and the world doesn't entirely make sense. Does that stop me from enjoying this book? Not one tiny bit. What I love about this series is the romance, as over the top sweet as it is, there is something about my sexy alien warriors adoring their females that tugs me back for more.

This will definitely not be for everyone, but this series is a not-so-guilty pleasure for me, and I will continue waiting with baited breath for the next book to come out!

I love audiobooks but the sound effects that they put in this series are distracting. It was nice to finally have Kim and Wray's story but I might get the rest of this series in ebook editions. I liked the first book in the series more than this one. I thought we would get to see Kim address the House of Lords, as referenced in the first book. It also bugged me that they talked about more than one universe. I understand that Wray is the Emperor of the "known universe" so Kim is from an unknown part. But when they talk about plural universes I would think that it should be galaxies in one universe. From my understanding, if there is another universe it would be in another dimension. I'm just being nitpicky but there you go.

Well that was another different read for me!

I read this because I was amazed with the first book, Grim. This one is just as interesting! The plot isn't that hard to figure out. A human woman gets into the hands of bad aliens and is rescued by another alien who's honorable and good. They figure out their differences and fall for each other. But wait... There are so many obstacles when you love a person different from you. That is what readers should look forward to in this book. How does a couple disregard the difference in their culture and build a life together in the middle of it all?

Let's talk about the characters...

Wray is definitely different from Grim. While Grim was totally intense, Wray was is sweeter and more charming than his brother. He's strong, brave, smart and very bossy. He's an emperor, so I guess he does have the right to order people around. ;) Anyway, just like his brother, Wray values women more than himself or any other male. It's ingrained in him to be caring for women... Kim got the advantage and disadvantage of that fact. He's protective of Kim and that's a good thing. However, sometimes, he's also OVERPROTECTIVE, and that could be bad. What I love about his character though, is that he never doubted Kim. Kim was always GOOD in his eyes. I love that about him.

Kim on the other hand is a FIGHTER. She most definitely is a fighter. She's also a survivor. I love how she handled things and how she didn't dwell on the bad ones. She's someone who has been through something horrifying, but still managed to be who she is and not change that just because of the things she's been through. I love how she constantly reminds Wray that he too, is important. In a world wherein women rule, women should be revered, women are always right... Kim chose to be just herself. She didn't want to be above everybody else. She remained humble and that's a very good thing.

This book made me feel happy, sad, envious because I also want a WRAY OF MY OWN, angry of all the bad elements surrounding them and ultimately contented with how the book ended.

This was an awesome read. I had fun. :)

Stars: 5++

Overall: Kim lost her parents at a young age and her older sister stepped up to take the role on, but Kim didn't make the task easy and when she turned 18, Kim said some nasty things to her. After six months of being on her own, Kim realizes the mistakes he made and tries to fix them, but finds out that he sister has been missing. After another six months Kim finally goes out to where her sister was and gets kidnapped by some cruel aliens herself. She is than rescued by Wray and his fellow warriors. Wray has lost his wife and son and has told everyone that he will never take another female, but the second he takes a look at Kim, he knows she is the one for him. He starts to take her back to his big ship the Searcher, when his smaller ship is attacked and Kim and Wray are stranded on a barren planet called Pontus. They spend the next week trying to survive and start to fall in love with each other. After this point there is a lot of love being made and a new beginning in the works. Wray starts the presentment on how things are going to be on Torian now.

Pros: I really liked the relationship between Kim and Wray right from the beginning of the book. There was just something special and real about it. I really loved this book just as much as I loved Grimm's book. I liked that it gave us a look at where it all started and i truly can't wait for the next book to come out and who it is going to be about.

Cons: I didn't like that Wray wasn't about to see Reeve for the coward that he was. It seemed like the evidence was right in front of him and he just didn't put the clues together.

Characters: Wray & Kim

Page Turner: Yes

Series Cont: I really hope so! This is one of my favorites!

Recommend: YES!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Well obviously I couldn't wait for the book to come out.
I loved the story. As usual MK did not disappoint me with her writing skills. She brought together Kim and Wray in such a nice way. There was enough story and action to show the development of their feelings for each other.
It was nice to see the Emperor falling for little Earthling and have his sweet side coming out.
Can I say I wished for more? I loved the fact that Kim and Wray have spent time together getting to know each other and emerge as a couple but I wanted to see them at the palace. A bit more action with the palace intrigue before the introduction of Grim.
I hope MK will continue the Tornian story and will bring more and more details about the changing society and new couples, maybe some more details about Wray and Kim and their children as well as Grim and Lisa :)

Great follow-up to Grim...although it's kind of a prequel as well.

It's starts off with Kim daydreaming about how she met Wray. In Grim, we only got snippets of this story so it was nice to get all of the details. We go through Kim's kidnapping and abuse by the Ganglions, her rescue and subsequent crash on a desolate planet, but the best part is that we see how Kim and Wray fall in love. It's super hot and really touching as well.

The only part I didn't like was the first time Kim meets Wray's son Tora. The whole encounter felt unnatural to me and the dialogue was so preachy. Also not sure how I feel about the whole "Goddess" thing but at least it blends well with the story.

Other than that it was wonderful and can't wait for more.

With the way this series has been written, some would feel the story unresolved if they have not read the first installment. It felt a little backwards and odd. But, I still liked the story. This one still needed an editor but it wasn't too distracting like the first book.

Spoilers ahead, 2.5*

This actually should've been book 1

Wray is the brother of Grim from book 1, he's also the Emperor. On a return trip Wray encounters a transport of Ganglian males, on boarding the vessel he finds captured males and an abused female the lies of which he'd never seen before
Kim is kidnapped and repeatedly raped by the alien captain of the vessel, she's at het breaking point when a warrior storms in and saves her. On their way back to his home however their transport crashes leaving them stranded for days. Time together However helps Kim recover from her past horror and fall in love with Wray. With the blessing of the goddess a new beginning is being delivered to the people who're suffering without the blessing of the goddess

*******
This was much better written and edited than book 1, still some issues with the switching of tenses but compared to book 1 it's a masterpiece
I didn't like Wray....surprising to me because I loved Grim, but from the beginning Wray rubbed me the wrong way. Him touching Kim while she was unconscious and recovering after her horrific ordeal just rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't like his handling of the lords either... A blind man could've seen they were up to no good
An ok story but I didn't enjoy it as I did book 1 even with all the grammar issues

No cheating
H was a widower (kinda because aliens 🤷🏽‍♀️)
h was raped repeatedly by the monsters who kidnapped her

If you already read Grim in the Tornians Series, you know the ending to this book. What the author has done here is to fill in the blanks as to how Emperor Wray Vasteri and Kim Teel came to be.....

* * * *

I have been waiting for another installmant in the Tornians series ever since i read Grim so to say my excitement was high is probably an understatement (even though I had issues with Grim).

That being said. The ending of this book is already known as Wray & Kim were featured as secondary characters in "Grim". Personally, I question if it was a good decision to do a prequel sort of thing at this stage in the series but did appreciate getting more in the world building and mystery/suspense department. The overall premise is that Kim, in the present day, is reflecting on all that's happened to her. If you haven't read this series and are looking to, I would highly suggest reading this installment BEFORE you read "Grim"......

The chemistry between Wray and Kim does click but has a fairy tale sort of feel. It was a stretch to fall in with Kim agreeing to have any sort of relationship with Wray after she's rescued but maybe I'm being a little too critical. It never gets old that Earth women have the ability and duty to bring even the most fearless of alien warriors to their knees. Nope. Not for me. hehehe. I do want to add that while the adult content scenes did have some hot action, it wasn't to the degree that I was looking to stick my e reader in the freezer to cool off or take any ice cold showers.

The actual story line does fill in needed information on who/what/when/where/how the Tornians are where they're at and what potential 'evil' element threat is brewing. There's a bit of action and a bit of suspense to give some punch to things. Yet. The different scenes are so compartmentalized and wrapped up in such a way that I was left wanting more. The fun part is that the author HAS included several open ended subplots to work off for future installments.

The cast of secondary characters. It was disappointing that Grim and others from Book 1 weren't featured more than they were. I'm not a fan of series that feature characters and then drop them. By the time the story line got to parallel time frames from the first book I expected those characters to drop by. **sigh

I am totally enjoying this series in that the premise, plot, and characters have a lot going on that I am a fan of. Some may feel it's just another version of alien warriors in desperate need of women to populate their planet. I say it's a different take on men who piss off a Goddess and seek redemption that can only be found on the primitive planet, Earth, where us super savy women live. :D
