This enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance follows a strong-willed, sword-wielding heroine who takes control of her own destiny.
Prince Kenneth has ordered Anna Halmich—his hostage— to fall in love with him, declaring his intention to marry her instead of Iris Eclipse! If Iris's father were to catch on, however, Anna's life could be in danger. So when Kenneth suddenly departs, he assigns his most trusted knights to Anna's protection... in other words, stalking her around the academy! Their presence proves worthwhile, however, when Anna and Claire venture into town and find themselves on the brink of a full-blown political riot. Anna's plans to avenge her father and upturn Albion's aristocracy could be dangerously derailed by Theo Eclipse, so what will she do when she receives an invitation to visit his home...?
"He may be this country's prime minister... but there's no telling what he may do to you."
The opening chapter of this was SOOOO good! Absolutely loved it!
But why did our leads separate AGAIN?! 😭😭😭
No, I don't mean they are broken up because it's definitely established that they are FAR from it, but I feel like with how epic the end of volume two was, I was slightly disappointed with this volume? I agree with a friend who read it at the same time that this volume feels like it's setting up things to come, but I feel slightly impatient because the best parts of this series are when the leads are together.
I liked the new knights, though, that arrived on page and think they are fun. I also liked that this volume DID establish how strong Anna is as a character and that she knows how to fight her own battles. She continues to surprise those around her and I LOVE that!
I just don't know if I want to continue buying the volumes for my personal collection and instead can check them out from the library because Anna is still an incredible character, but dang it, I NEED the leads to stay together for an entire volume, please!
Anna, the titular Margrave's daughter, is the odd one out in her family. She takes after her father and is more interested in weapons and warfare than she is in being a lady. When things go wrong on the battlefield against the enemy kingdom, Anna is given over to the enemy kingdom's general as peace offering. Anna has no intention of going quietly and when she finds herself in a violent situation with the general, non other than the enemy prince comes to her aid. The pince, however, has his own plans for her.
The art is absolutely beautiful and this is a promising start to the series. Anna is so far quite the typical arch type character of noble lady who would rather swing a sword, but I definitely like her so far. There is a good balance between humour and dark scenes that make the stakes feel reasonably high. The prince's motives are hard to read so I think this series will offer interesting romance dynamics.
The political aspect is getting deeper but I am not really sure about it at this point. I don’t get the it to a certain degree. There seem to be open opposition taking place.
Anna is slowly learning more about this new kingdom and exactly what Prince Kenneth envisions her role as in all of this, including why he seems to be going along with the Eclipse family and their control over the kingdom. Waves start to form when Kenneth's personal bodyguards show up at the school, but they're there for Anna, not his supposed fiancé, Iris. Anna even manages to pull some surprising moves that help out the knights and gain her some favor with the citizens in Prince Kenneth's stead. Unfortunately, that may have brought even more attention to her from the Eclipse patriarch, who seems keen on pulling her into his own control and orbit as soon as possible.

Here enters the true villains in the intrigue of politics and love rivalries. The more I see the prince reveal some of his inner viewpoints and such The more I seem to warm up to him. The main character is still my favorite, she's a very strong respectable woman. It's always nice to see strong-willed women done right and I feel like they're doing right by her so far.
The story is not terribly original well not being completely scripted. They're a little bit of freshness to some of the deliveries and I also really like the character designs being more diverse. Every time I see the evil prime minister I feel like I'm looking at Rasputin lol.
