In a world divided by prejudice and hatred, only love can bridge the chasm. Tensions are rising in the Gladium Province. The boundary between humans and Morgons has begun to blur. While the human aristocracy strives to maintain distance between their daughters and the dragon-hybrid race, fate has other plans. As the daughter of the corporate king, Jessen Cade is duty-bound to honor her arranged marriage to a man she detests. Feeling trapped by family duty and a loveless future, she longs for more, straying to the Morgon side of the city. Lucius Nightwing is the eldest son of the powerful Morgon clan, and the greatest enemy of Jessen’s father. When a bar-room brawl thrusts Jessen into his arms, his dragon roars to the surface, craving to sate his carnal hunger in the brown-eyed beauty. The beast in Lucius recognizes her as his own, even if the man refuses to admit the truth.

This was a re-read of Soulfire. Juliette Cross is re-releasing the series with a few additions to the original version. It’s been four years since I originally read this and to be honest, it felt like I was reading it for the first time. I might even love it more than I did. Not only has Juliette added content to the original story, she has also added a little extra at the end, something you aren’t going to want to miss. I don’t want to change anything of my original review because those were my heart felt words at that time. I do, though, want to re-affirm my love for this world, for the Morgons and the humans they fall in love with, and with the words that Juliette Cross writes. She always manages to sweep me away into these worlds she creates. And I will always be one of her biggest fans for doing so. Here is one additional quote to leave you with before my original review:

“Maybe you are a goddess. A witch more like.”
“Witches aren’t real.”
“No? Then why do I feel like I’m under a spell, as if something is gripping me, and I’m helpless to free myself.”

Soulfire is book one in the Nightwing series by Juliette Cross. Do you ever judge a book by it’s cover? I sort of have a “thing” for book covers. I sometimes will feel a bond to a book just by it’s cover, never having read a word. This was the case with Soulfire. I first saw it in my Goodreads newsfeed and was instantly infatuated. Luckily, once I got ahold of it and began reading, my infatuation turned to love!

 photo winged_zps9128590f.jpg

Lucius Nightwing is a Morgon, sort of a dragon hybrid. He has the body of a man but the beast within. And he has wings, huge beautiful wings. Each family’s wings are unique to that family. When a Morgon finds his true life mate, he can give his soulfire to his mate which bonds them together forever. It is a bond that cannot be broken. Lucius is from one of the oldest and most powerful of the Morgon families.

 photo winged2_zps86b1cc67.jpg

Jessen Cade is a human. She is also from a very powerful family and also, a family that hates Morgons. Her father has betrothed Jessen to a business partner’s son, purely to further his financial interests with no thought to his daughter’s happiness. And the man he has pledged Jessen to is an awful, sadistic, unstable in my opinion, man.

Most humans stay far away from the Morgons but times are changing. The boundaries are blurring. Businesses are blending. So one night when Jessen and her friends sneak out, they go to the other side of town, the Morgon side, and go to one of their clubs. It is here that she first lays her eyes on Lucius Nightwing.

“When he lifted a hand toward my face, I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, wanting his touch in that moment more than I’d wanted anything.”

“He gripped my arms from behind, steadying me, his body a wall of tantalizing heat.” “Don’t worry. I won’t let you fall.”
“Funny, because he just did.”

After that night, Lucian tried to stay away. He tried to get her out of his mind. But it wasn’t working. When fate brought them back together, he knew he couldn’t fight it any longer.

“My beast recognized her as his, wanted her now, yesterday, tomorrow. And always, Yes, the dragon knew, but the man refused to accept it. Like I had any choice. Fate gave her to me. A human. The daughter of the enemy.”

What a fantastic entry into this world of very sexy dragon/men and their fight for a place in the world of humans. Can the two blend together or will there be war? I was instantly catapulted into this new world and my only complaint was that it was much to short of a visit.

Will I continue on with this series? Try and keep me away. The second book, Windburn, is due out next February and I can’t wait. Thank you so much to Juliette Cross, Kensington Publishing and to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

(This review covers all three books in the Nightwing series and with no spoilers.)

Juliette Cross brings us three rather tasty treats in her Nightwing series and as soon as I’d finished Soulfire, I had an inkling we’d be in for quite the ride

description

In a world where dragons are human hybrids, living and working alongside the humans, tensions are fraught and that’s largely down to the prejudice they face. But when best friends Jessen, Sorcha and Ella meet Lucius, Lorian and Paxon Nightwing, the well-told tale of human and dragon becoming heartbound becomes reality, threefold.

description I don’t apologize to anyone. This is me. Love it or leave it.” ~ Windburn

I’ve said it before, Juliette Cross has incredible skills when it comes to breathing life into her fantasy worlds, transporting you deep into their heart and quickly making you fall in love with her characters. And whilst each couple have their own story to tell, they bring passion and fight in every sense.

description ...you are the only woman who will ever share my bathtub.” ~ Nightbloom

If all that appeals, then this series is undoubtedly one to get your claws deep into.

I’m a big fan of UF/PNR with erotic tendencies. When there is the added component of *sexy times* I’m all over it. The great thing about this first installment of the NIghtwing series is that it is not very long. There is just enough to give you a glimpse of this world and a taste of the culture and the idea of the series without committing to 300+ pages. Everything in this novel is self-contained so if you love it great there is another in the series coming out, but if it just wasn’t for you no worries this story wraps up well so no pressing need to continue.

I however liked it a lot and will totally be continuing because DRAGONS. How do you improve on the regular UF/PRN using were-anythings? You go one better and make Dragon/Human hybrids and give them a beautiful lore as a beginning.

Jessen was warned way from Morgon men her entire life. Told tales of how they swept unsuspecting women away and kept them in gilded cages. Her family and the Nightwing family have been advisories on the business front for longer than she can remember. Jessen is also promised to marry a man she can’t stand, the son of her father’s business partner. She escapes out for a night of fun with a few friends and meets LusciousLucius.
I didn’t have tons of experience with guys, but I knew the heady sensations of making out and heavy petting. What happened between us went way beyond any of that, melting me bone-deep.

Both knowing that the other was an enemy to their family they separate and try not to desire the other but LusciousLucius’s dragon knows her to be his mate and will not be satisfied until he is beside her again.

I enjoyed the play on the forbidden love like Romeo and Juliet. I also liked the idea of the dragon’s mating bond knows as Soulfire and how it bonds the Dragon’s Heart forever to his mate. The introduction to this world was interesting too. If your entire culture could fly where would you live, what would be different than those who couldn’t. Also the set-up of the dragon/Morgon families and their wing color and powers was also great little pieces of info sprinkled in.

There was an instant pop and attraction that lead to love but I didn’t care since I knew that is what this would be going in. Jessen was likable and even though her family sucked she isn’t a whiner plus she has some fun friends. Lucius was just alpha enough and I loved the instincts of his Dragon. The set up for the family conflicts and the changing of the current society should be interesting. I’m so in with this series and look forward to the next one

"...are you ready to seal yourself to me…with soulfire?"

I'm in love with the world Juliette Cross created where humans and Morgons have to learn to co-exist. While many have overcome their ingrained bias and the segregation laws are a thing of the past, there are still those who know nothing but hatred and this author didn't shy away from the ugly.

Jessen Cade is a human woman who quickly realizes that her life, her future, her choices aren't her own. Her father has limited her experience, forcing her to rebel (of course). Her rebellion takes her to the Morgon side of town, Morgons being a dragon-human hybrid that are virtually invulnerable and age much slower than humans. At a Morgon club, she immediately finds a connection to Lucius Nightwing, the son of her father's greatest enemy.

Lucius Nightwing can't understand the strange bond he feels to Jessen. Not because she's human. Not because the truce between humankind and Morgons is so fragile. But because she is unlike anyone he's ever met... and she's the enemy's daughter. But their destiny couldn't be denied and no one, not even her father, brother or her intended husband were going to stand in the way of his claiming her... except maybe himself.

5 - "Beware of Morgon men." Stars!

I'll say! The first book in the Nightwing series, introduced me to another permanent addition to the Book-boyfriend folder.

A man with wings, and fire, and all the alpha tendencies that make for slightly addictive reading tendencies, well it does for me anyway, but I am an unashamed PNR junkie.

My beast recognized her as his, wanted her now, yesterday, tomorrow. And always...

Absolutely outstanding, read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down. Beautifully crafted world, filled with a plethora of characters, all with their own story to tell.

"I imagined this moment. When I could touch you....
When you would want me to touch you.
...I never thought it would happen."

I love dragons! And Lucius was the most perfect dragon!

Jessen’s family life is restrictive to say the least. Sneaking out for a night on the wrong side of town, she finds herself caught in the middle of a confrontation between humans and dragons. When a dark dragon removes her from any danger and then promptly flies her home, she knows that she will feel the wrath of her family. With a quick change in plans she soon finds herself alone with Lucius Nightwing. Despite all she has been raised to believe, she is fascinated by everything about him.

Lucius could not tolerate another man’s hands on the woman. His beast urged him to maim, to break, to kill. It is all the man can do to stop his dragon from taking over. After a soul stirring kiss he knows he must put Jessen aside as he cannot claim her for himself. There is a huge divide between them that goes beyond racism. A divide that his loyalty to family must honor.

While this did not have a lot of action or drama, the story was constantly moving forward, the groundwork being laid for not only Jess and Lucius but for, I imagine, the remaining stories as well. However, it was not completely drama free and I actually enjoyed watching things play out and then cheering when the villain received payment for his deeds.

I adored Lucius and his jealous, protective ways. It doesn’t take him long to recognize what’s at stake with Jessen and even while he fears it a bit, he is determined to claim her completely. Jessen is a heroine that yields to what her family wants, despite her moments of rebellion, but throughout the story she grows stronger in her determination to stand up for what she wants in life. And what she doesn’t want as well. Sometimes, that type of heroine is just as compelling as a regular kicka$$ one.

This is a fast paced read with secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more about. I’m especially keeping my eye on Ella as she has the potential to be my perfect heroine. But I’m also watching Moira, oh, and then there’s Sorcha. Yeah, you get the idea. Lots of good stuff coming up in this series I’m sure. The steam level is scorching but perfect for the story. Don’t expect to get to the serious heat until after the 70% mark. Even so, it didn’t feel that long due to the extreme chemistry between the main characters.

Overall, I absolutely loved pretty much everything about this story except that I wanted more. And since I’m pretty sure I’ll be seeing Jessen and Lucius as we move forward, I’m more than happy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Absolutely fantastic!

This book went above and beyond my expectations! Generally the stories about dragons have never been on my radar but after finishing this one, Lucius Nightwing changed my whole perspective.

This is the story of Lucius Nightwing, the eldest son of the most powerful Morgon (half human, half dragon) clan, and Jessen Cade, the daughter of the most affluent human family. Jessen’s father hated the Morgons like poison, so this is where the story begins—a forbidden love between two different races from enemy families!

The moment Lucius and Jessen first kissed, sparks flied! The attraction between them electrified both their souls and it had not diminished over time.

"Let me ask you something, Mr. Nightwing. Have you thought about me even once since we first met? Just once?"
Once? Once? Was she fucking kidding me? I wanted to scream. Daily. Hourly. Every second of every fucking day she saturated my thoughts. Driving me out of my mind! My beast already knew she was his, the man needed to yield and tell her. Show her.

But Jessen’s father forced her to marry the man he chose for her. Lucius knew that she was his mate and he would fight for her.

"Jessen, if you don't know it by now, my heart is already yours. Will you--" he took a deep, jagged breath. "Will you bind your heart to mine? Will you be mine through life's flame and beyond?"

(YES, I WILL!) Lucius, you are so sweet!

The sex scene was beautiful (of course, it was hot, too!) and it filled with real passion. Who would have thought dragon wings could be so sexy?! Especially when Lucius spread his wings to their full breadth during their most intimate moment…Speechless…

I felt sacred. Precious. Protected. Safe.
I felt loved.
"Lucius...our hearts. I can feel...I don't know how to explain it."
He smiled, and I melted.
"Yes, love." A gentle caress of lips on my unbruised cheek. "We are heartbound. I am yours." Now the other cheek, more tenderly. "And you are mine." Now my lips. "Forever."

Oh my heart! I melted, too!

All in all, I loved this book and it was my pleasurable read. This is my first book by this author but it will definitely not be my last. I sure will continue this series!

These are just some of the descriptive words that come to mind when I think of Soulfire by the amazing Juliette Cross.

I quickly found myself falling into this imaginative world of where humans and dragon-hybrids, called Morgons, co-exist, teetering on tensions fuelled by indifference and hate. Yet, against all protocol and proprieties, one young woman, Jessen Cade, challenges it all. Defying years of servitude and boundaries forced upon her by her controlling father, who loathed Morgons, especially those of the Nightwing Clan. Jessen displayed such strength in her resistance to being anything but more than what was expected of her, and to follow her heart. Her heart, which bound itself to Lucius Nightwing, her father's enemy.
One encounter is all it took, when Lucius fought against his dragon, roaring to have Jessen, even though he knew loving his enemy was wrong, he couldn't deny her, his mate.

Soulfire is the first in the Nightwing Novella Series and it definitely has me hooked, talons and all. I can't wait to continue roaming in this fantasy world full of vivid colours captured in a work of art, just like those often incorporated in all of Juliette Cross's work.

Soulfire is my first read by author Juliette Cross. My first impression is that she reminds me a bit of an early Nalini Singh. The storyline and the premise are really good. The characters are well defined and you really are immersed in their world right away.

I am in love with the idea of Lucius Nightwing. He can fly me to the moon and back. Lucius is protective of this human Jessen and is trying to stop the pull he feels toward her. His species really has no control when his mate is decided, but the level of racism is at an all-time high in this world. This will bring about a host of problems for this coupling. The old world and new world ways always do.

Soulfire is off to a great start and I will be sticking with this series in hopes that we will get a bit more emotionally in-depth in the next book. I think the world building has been done now and I want more meat, so to speak. I am sure Cross will deliver!

Sexy n enjoyable PNR novella.

The worldbuilding about dragons and humans is interesting yet never overpowering. The H takes a while to get that the h is his mate but once he does he is gentle, adoring but also passionate and possessive as hell. The sexual chemistry between H/h was really sparking off the pages!! I liked the h too, she was feisty but also smart and loving. Safe romance.

Updated rating: ***5 Stars***

Soulfire was the first book I ever read by the author and the one that turned me all kinds of fangirl because I not only got caught up in the HEA of the characters, but fell in love with the world in which they lived. So, when it was announced that she got the rights back for the book and was going to be doing a little tweaking of the book before re-issuing it, I was both excited and anxious. Excited because I was thrilled for the author and was looking forward to seeing if I could pick out the changes (even though it has been 4 years since I picked it up) but anxious because, what if I didn’t love the book as much as the first time I read it.

Thankfully, the anxiety was washed away as soon as I read the prologue and found that I loved the story more the second time around. I can’t pinpoint exactly what the difference was from the first time I read the book to now. I couldn’t find any obvious changes or anything, and it is more than likely the fact that I have read and devoured all the books in this series and it’s spinoff that I am the one who changed since I have a different perspective on it, but I just found I loved and adored the book and therefore bumped my rating up a notch.

I didn’t read my initial review until after doing the re-read and there are no revisions to be made (though it is weird to read a review I did 4 years and see how things have changed since them in how I put my thoughts out there). My thoughts and feelings are the same, with the exception of enjoying the story more this time around.

So, if you enjoy PNR and have a thing for dragons then this series is an absolute must read!

Original Review

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review

Jessen Cade, daughter of one of Gladium Province’s most prominent human families, has been raised to believe that Morgons, a dragon race, are far beneath her in many ways and even to fear them. But when she decides to break free of the restraints of her station, she finds that those beliefs hold sway when she finds herself in the arms of Morgon, Lucius Nightwing.

It’s rare when I read a novella/short story length book, especially a first in series, where I feel that I’ve gotten not only a good feel for the world, but for the HEA in couple, but SoulFire has given me both as well as has me looking forward to the next installment. Ms. Cross does a wonderful job of intertwining the history of the world she’s created within the story of Jessen and Lucius without taking away from either one of them, while hinting that there is even more going on than what we’ve been shown.

Lucius is hot, sweet, sexy and just a little brooding, especially when dealing with the fact that his dragon craves a human. Jessen is fun and strong and knows that she wants and deserves so much more than what her father has planned for her. While she may put herself into undesirable situations, they tend to be born more out of being who she knows herself to be than trying to prove it to others. The cast of characters that surround Lucius and Jessen were fun to meet, even the ones I wanted to smack, and well written so that they added depth to the story without taking anything away from the main HEA.

*I received an ARC of this book free from NetGalley on behalf of Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review*

The Morgon are half human half dragon and they are all that’s left of their dragon ancestors. Most humans have great prejudice towards them and although they’ll do business with them, they do not want their daughters anywhere near them.

Jessen Cade’s father is a corporate mogul and in order to keep control of his empire he has her future planned out…right down to marrying her off to someone she hates. She has other plans. After sharing a kiss with her first Morgon she cannot get Lucius out of her mind. She longs for him and doesn’t know why.

Lucius Nightwing is the eldest son of the most powerful Morgon clan. He doesn’t interact with humans on a personal level and never wanted to, that is until one encounter with Jessen brings his dragon to the surface and claims her without any say so from his human side.

When Jessen and Lucius realize that no amount of time apart will lessen the desires they have for the other they each have to decide if the repercussions from their mixed union are worth it.

In Soulfire bonds will be forged, boundaries will change, lines will be drawn, and two hearts will merge into one. It’s a fantastic start to a new series and I cannot wait for Windburn (Nightwing #2) to come out. I’m officially hooked!

My Favorite Moment: Every moment spent thinking about or talking about what Jessen saw in the art gallery. I loved how she reacted and then later how she confronted Lucius.

"Jessen, if you don't know it by now, my heart is already yours." - Lucius Nightwing

If someone had told me that it IS possible to have a good, complete story in only a bit more than 100 pages, with no prequel of said story anywhere to grab on, I would have laughed. Loudly. While holding my stomach and rolling on the floor.

Now this doesn't mean I haven't read such books before. I have, but they usually come from authors I have tried before. However, Juliette Cross managed to prove she CAN do it!

Lucius Nightwing and Jessen Cade are two creatures that could and should never be together. Lucius is a Morgon and Jessen is a human, and their families are business rivals. But after a girls-night-out goes wrong in his club after which he saves her, Lucius can't deny his dragon wants this woman more than anything. And once a dragon finds his mate, there's nothing anyone can do to keep them apart....

I do love me some hot romance. I also loooove anything to do with dragons, and strong heroines. And Alphas, duh!
So you can imagine my delight when I realized that this book had them all. It has the passion and the sexual tension - God knows how I managed to survive reading it without screaming, like I was the one needing to get laid instead of the characters. But it was all good, because Cross doesn't disappoint. She gave me sexy scenes that were enough to get my laptop scorched inside-out!

She also gave me two wonderful main characters, full of flaws and deep personalities. Lucius was a delicious hot Alpha male, one that takes no shit from people who try to harm what is his - be it his business, his family, or his woman - and Jess was a strong woman who wasn't afraid to speak her mind and defend equality between the species no matter how others treated her. She even gave Lucius a run for his money when he was being too stubborn!

The story wasn't focused only on romance, though. It gave a strong message against the racism towards people who are different from us - the Morgons were half-dragons, yes, but they were superior to humans despite them not abusing that fact. And yet they were treated like crap from humanity, with lies being spread and parents warning their daughters not to get near them! Plus, there was some serious action in there, mainly because Jess was one unfortunate soul who always found herself in the middle of a fight.

I've already started the next book, and I can't wait to get to the good parts! Lorian is my favorite character - what can I say, I'm addicted to the strong silent type - and I'm seriously anxious to see how his love story will work out!

PS: Call me greedy, but I wouldn't mind if Cross decided to write a book for Slade, or the Rowanflame twins, or even Demetrius (yes, he did attract some of my attention, surprisingly)! In fact, I would welcome it! But that's just me and my fangirling, hahaha!

This was a quick PNR read. I liked the world it was set in and the concept of the soulfire and bondmates. Lucius was hot! I loved how he couldn't get Jess out of his mind and dealt with his frustration through painting. Jess was strong heroine and I was glad she finally stood up to her family.

As readers we all differ in what we are looking for in a book. Different genres, different heat levels, different voice. What we don’t differ in, is what we’re looking for when we give our time to a new book. We want magic and this book delivered ten fold. It’s literally been years since a book swept me up so completely. I fell for Lucius Nightwing and Jessen both. Juliette has created a world I want to go back to again and again. Juliette’s prose is beautiful and her descriptions divine. Yeah, I’m a fan. I’ll be stalking her from now on for more, more, more.

I adored Soulfire. It's forbidden, inter-species goodness wrapped in one story. I loved the chemistry between them and the fact that they defied traditions to be with one another. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series not only because I'm excited to see what happens with this new couple but also to see the fallout from Jessen and Lucius' unconventional union.

First time read from Author Juliette Cross and I was NOT disappointed! Really enjoyed this story. Classical Romeo and Juilet theme, the forbidden love scenario (without the dyeing of course). Story follows Jessen (a Human) and Lucius (from the Morgon race aka dragon people). Its was HOT. Really liked the Authors writing style.

Dragon hybrid? Yes, please! Anyone who knows me knows that I love anything dragons, shifters, Hades, or any combination thereof. I'm sure that's not an exhaustive list, but it's good for the time being. Soulfire, the first book in the Nightwing series, is the story of Jessen and Lucius. Lucius, beautiful, sexy Lucius, being a dragon hybrid. How fabulous is that?

Jessen, human, is the kind of female role I love. She is spirited and lively. Seen more as a commodity than as a daughter to her father, she did not seem to have much say in her own life. However, she takes control and does what makes her happy, despite the consequences.

Lucius, the dragon hybrid (did I mention that awesome tidbit?), tries to stay away from humans, for reasons that become clear within the story. But he meets Jessen and cannot stop thinking about her. He is very protective of her, but tries to fight it. He tries and tries…Between the two of them there was a lot of chemistry, right from the first meet.

There was also a lot of prejudice in this book for the characters to overcome, humans hating the Morgon, the Morgon wanting nothing to do with the humans. It makes it complicated to live in proximity to one another…or to be in love. But sometimes, that love is worth all the troubles.

Of course, having the privilege of being the opening of a new series, this book was also required to give us some backstory. What we got here was a relatively short story (just a little over 100 pages), but the author did a great job creating a believable and well-developed world for her characters. The story was unique and well written. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Soulfire is a different take on dragon shifters, instead of men turning into a giant dragon these guys are hybrids. They're really hot dudes with wings and incredible strength. It also covers an interesting aspect of society which is the segregation between humans and what are called Morgans, these two "species" if you will, only interact when necessary. Each species seems to keep to their own kind, specially when it comes to relationships.

Humans view Morgans as monsters, while Morgans view humans as being below them in most cases. So, there's prejudiced on both sides. They each have their own sides of the city as well with different layouts.

This story revolves around Jessen and Lucius who come from different worlds, but both are extremely privileged. They both feel a desire and passion towards each other even though they shouldn't. They shouldn't indulge in anything more than a few stolen kisses because of their families and society as a whole.

I thought this was an interesting start to a new series and look forward to the next book. I probably would have given this a higher rating if I would have liked the characters more, but they just didn't grip my interest. However, the story itself is very well written and the chemistry between these two is evident from the beginning which weaves a steamy story.

I'm a bit of an OCD gal, so I was kind of worried I'd throw myself for a loop with the Nightwing series since I read the last book (book 3) first. I enjoyed it immensely, so I backed up and bought books 1 and 2 (Soulfire and Windburn) as soon as I was done. I wasn't disappointed. I read both books in one night--much to the disgruntlement of my family who freaks out when I check out of reality with a good book.

Everything about this series is fantastic. It's creative. The romance is beautiful--classic alpha, swoon worthy, and champion modeled heroes. The writing is beautiful. (See aforementioned comment about checking out of reality for an entire night to read two books. Only this kind of writing can do that for me.)

If you want to relax and bury yourself in a fantastic world with heroes that take your breath away, then buy this series. Buy all three at the same time, put the world on notice for awhile, and enjoy. Though you should be forewarned--Juliette has several other books with more on the way. (And yeah, I've read those, too.) You might find yourself needing more than just a day or two to indulge.

Wow, what an exciting read which I loved! I enjoyed both Lucius and Jessen, the chemistry they had together and the forbidden love aspect is what made the book so exciting to me. Lucius was the perfect amount of protective and alpha, and Jessen didn't feel like to me just a damsel in distress needing to be saved.

The secondary characters were also interesting, without taking anything away from our two leads. I hope for more books in the future on these characters.

I loved the world that was created here, it felt well thought out and I found it incredibly interesting. The prejudices that have been instilled within both humans and Morgons are fascinating and leave so much of this world left to explore. There was the undercurrent of hate and perhaps even an oncoming war. I look forward to seeing what happens between everyone in later books.

Well done Juliette, a fantastic read about dragons that is perfect for any paranormal lover who enjoys a bit of heat to their stories!

I really enjoyed this introduction to the Nightwing world. It's a fast paced read with lots of secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more about. There was over the top chemistry between the main characters which makes sense when we find out they were destined to be mates and share Soulfire.

In this world, dragons are human hybrids, living and working alongside humans but they face constant segregation and prejudice that they are trying to overcome. When Jessen Cade and Lucius Nightwing meet, the tale of human and dragon becoming heartbound becomes reality.

I loved everything about this story and hope for more of Jessen and Lucius in the next books. I wanted to start on Sorcha and Lorien's story right away but since it's being updated and re-released later this month, I'll wait (impatiently :) ).

3,5 stars for the first book of this series

this book introduces us to a real interesting world. I liked the world building immensely even, if there could have even been more information on it
I also liked the characters and how they found themselves drawn to each other but I was disappointed with the last quarter of the book ... this could have been really good, but the ending was so rushed that I felt cheated

hope the next book let us enjoy the couple a bit more and gives us also in the last quarter the feelings, we got before

all in all a good read with more potential but nevertheless a good start for a new series

first impression:
Hm ... I really liked three quarter of the book but the ending was rushed

review to come

Another new great series I discovered. This book is the first of the Nightwing series, and it does a good job of putting down a setting as well as characters. I LOVE DRAGONS!!! When I imagine a shape shifting dragon man all I can say is it gets hot in the room. This book was amazing. I love books with a strong heroine who figures out exactly what she wants and isn't afraid to go for it. Add to that the mystique of dragons, a bit of treachery, a dash of deceit and the search for true love and you have this great story. I enjoyed every bit of it.
I have to purchase Windburn (Nightwing, #2). I'm hooked!!!

Loved it.

Such a delightful read! This is my first read from this author but it definitely won't be the last! It was an enjoyable pnr novella with awesome characters and really interesting and creative world-building. I do wish it was longer but it is a novella so I guess I'll just have to read the rest of the series.
