I cannot count how long I have looked for a decent merman romance (not merMAID, please) and here it is. Damaraion was an absolutely adorable merman thrust into the human world (I loved watching him do things like walk on legs for the first time). I appreciate how the hero wasn't some alpha hero with a caveman complex but instead this huggable, sweet guy who develops an adoration for Cassie, our heroine, as she shows him the human world. The plot wasn't half-bad, for a romance novel, and my only complaint is that while Cassie and Damarion were cute together, I felt like their romance developed way too fast. They went from being friends to I-can't-live-without-you love practically overnight. I'm hoping that in future novels (and their will be more, thankfully!) we can see their romance grow and deepen.

i loved the concept. he’s a merman, she’s a human. as a fellow appreciator of monster romances i found it intriguing, bc there could be so much potential. but. this book was written like a wattpad story where the girl is just too young to make actual life decisions but she thinks she knows it all. i needed more maturity, everyone annoyed me with how naive and stupid they acted.

h2o vibes omg.

something wasn’t right about cassie. maybe she was too young. mad at her parents for no reason. wanting a boyfriend. full of teenager insecurities. fantasizing about living together with a guy who belongs to the ocean.
“I want to push him away, yell at him, accuse him of playing me, for making me fall for him.”

cassie and her best friend are both 18 fresh out of high school and they are talking about settling down. what settling down? go to college first? grow up a bit.

cassie was so young and naive.
“I don’t know if I could have survived another day. [without him]”

weren’t she and kyle best friends first? if they broke up civilly how they didn’t stay friends? couldn’t they talk it out?

she wanted him to trust her and tell about his world but she’d already betrayed his trust by telling leah about him. i really didn’t like the fmc.

what texts……she had literally one friend.
“I take care of some personal things, like answering emails and texts”

“the pony holder” is now what we call a hair tie.

This was for sure a guilty pleasure read. The only reason I bought it in the first place was because of a reading challenge I was participating in that required reading a book with mermaids. I ended up getting really into this story even though it was a bit cheesy at times. I thought, what the heck, I'm bored and this will be a quick read. Little did I know that it's the first book in a 6 book series...

This book kinda infuriated me so here's a bullet point list of things that bugged me.

-The plot of this book is absolutely an afterthought to all of the cuddling (and mind you I enjoy cuddling, but Jesus, so much!)
-Absent Parent Syndrome all over the place. Dad is a dirty cheater who irrevocably Scarred (tm) his daughter with his wanton ways and mom is finally living her life or something. Selling cosmetics apparently?
-ON TOP OF THAT, Cassie's mom comes home and literally finds her daughter i n b e d with a boy, and is like, 'cool, stay young girlfriend'. What? I don't care how cool your mom is, that doesn't happen.
-This book also glosses over any fallout of the few events therein. Something big or interesting will happen and then it's like 'and once we dealt with that, we were cuddling on the couch again'. Like any challenging emotions and events are just sort of... not covered.
-I had some issues with the emotional maturity on display in this book in a multitude of ways.
-Cassie is all, 'I'm a grown-up, I'm eighteen, I can make decisions".
-I'm nineteen and I know that's bullshit.
-Damarian at points seems emotionally stunted, which makes me feel awkward
about all the horndog moments that he periodically has.
-The friends make no impact on the story whatsoever.
-There's a random subplot with another merman in this book that is so last second and barely dealt with.
- HER MOM LITERALLY CATCHES THEM IN BED AND IS COOL WITH IT I CANNOT GET OVER IT

The cuddly bits were fun and swoon-worthy but that's about all there was, between scenes of getting Damarian in and out of the pool over and over and over again.

One thing about me is that I’m a sucker for mermaid related things, whether they be books, tv shows, you name it. That’s why I was very excited to read this book, seeing as it was a mermaid story, but with a twist.

Instead of the main character being a mermaid, she’s actually a human. You may ask, where does the mermaid aspect come in? Well that’s where it becomes interesting. In this book, the second main character, Damarian, is a merman. Yes, you read that correctly. This book focuses on a merman, not a mermaid.

Of course, being the fangirl that I am, I was extremely excited to meet a mysterious merman. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed. From the very beginning, I loved how Damarian was kind, sweet, and considerate. He had all the qualities that you would want in a friend. I also really appreciated the fact that he was slightly naive in that he didn’t know a lot about the human world. After all, living in the ocean and living on land are two completely different life styles.

I was really hoping to like this book more. It's ok. Was a quick read, but was really disappointing. I felt the characters was boring and didn't really do anything except get him in and out of the water.

Not going to lie, I was a little disappointed in this one. This is a series that is pure instalove, which I hate. They knew each other for like a couple weeks at most before confessing their undying love for each other, and the fact that I felt Iike there was no real foundation for the relationship because of the instalove made me not care about the characters really at all. All of the characters felt very flat to me with no growth, and the entire book was really rushed in my opinion. It was too short, relationship just wasn’t believable, and I just am so disappointed because I think it could have actually been done really well, but instead we are left with this. Just such a disappointment to me.

Mrs. Cassie's Mom, we need to talk.

Now, I understand that Cassie is 18 and is capable of making her own decisions, but you took finding her in bed with someone reaaaaaally well. Like, weirdly well.

[image error]
"Oh wow hey guys I'm making breakfast! Ah to be young and having guys live with me while my mom is away working again..."

I didn't want her to be mad, but a little shock would have been nice.

I was a bit miffed that she left so soon, but who could blame her? Cassie: "Wow mom I'm so angsty that you left for work again." Mom: "Surprise! I'm home because I love you!" Cassie: "Oh. Actually I'd prefer to hang out with my new boyfriend."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overall I thought the plot was kind of boring and didn't really give that mermaid novel thrill, but I'm gonna go on to the second novel and give it a shot.
For some reason boring is the one word that never enters my mind when I start a new mermaid book. It kind of hit me out of blue -- the boring-ness of the story, which 'Merman's Kiss' is. The characters all sound same, there's no plot (unless you love reading about a characters' boring routine) and the writing style is the most dull.
This is was so cute! One thing I will say is that I hate both of their parents! Her dad is a pos that abandoned her because he didn’t want to be with her mom. He never once tried to contact her and the only reason they have a relationship is because the mom pressured her to call her dad first😡 speaking of them mom she’s almost as bad as him! She basically abandoned her kid to go live the life she really wanted but she got pregnant young. This poor girl was basically alone for half of her life and the mom had the nerve to tell her she should forgive her dad even though he abandoned her. Both of them are irritating and I don’t like them but I really love the fml and ml.
PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH! right off the bat the writing is not good and this story is by no means groundbreaking. BUT! I ate this shit up! If you are looking for an intellectual meaningful read this probably isn’t the book for you. ENTERTAINMENT WISE YOU HAVE TO READ THIS! If you go into this book just for a fun read you will not be disappointed. I thoroughly plan on reading this entire series. !ALSO SIDE NOTE! i am just giving my honest take and trying to help this book reach its target audience!
The Amazon kindle version of it was a cheap price ($3), so I figured why not. I do like magical teen romance stories, but this one I'd give 3 out of 5 stars. I loved the magical part, and learning about the male lead's world, but I felt that he and Cassie (female lead) fell in love too quickly. Very swoon-worthy. I'm still lost on what they liked about each other (not saying the characters were bad, but it was too much in a rush).
The male version of The Little Mermaid, has a plot twist towards the end.
Cassie finds a washed up merman on the beach after he rescues her from a surfboard wipeout. Together they learn that parents and exlovers suck, no matter what the species.
So much of the tedious details could be edited out.
entertaining, but oh my god did I not care about any of these characters. MC sucked, best friend sucked, love interest was just like hmm?? Any book that starts with two girls going to good colleges and ends with one going to community college to stay with her mermaid boyfriend and the other taking a gap year to work at a JUICE BAR is not one i like
Love the storyline, the chemistry between the two protagonists. Only complaint is that the mother was...the most unmotherly? Who in their right mind would behave the way she did upon walking into their daughter being in bed with some guy? Such an unrealistic reaction. But overall, I love the feeling this book gave me, the fairy tale-like yet contemporary vibe it exuded. So 4 stars it is.
Great Romantic Book
It is short, but very interesting. The author doesn't stall or move at a slow boring pace with her books. I love mermaids in general and this was a great book, I would definitely read it again.
This is by far my FAVORITE mermaid/merman series! Can we just accept the fact that all men need to speak like Damarian? The love between him and Cassie is so pure.
I couldn’t with the writing. I’m sorry. It was plain and the characters felt kind of bland. Also, it was Insta-Love which is a trope I’m not a fan of.
