When Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, plays matchmaker, true love can seem like a curse. . .

Lord Wastrel--the most notorious rake in London--has a child? Clearly he knows how to sire one, but he has no idea how to actually raise one. He has to learn quickly, since he is the little girl's only surviving parent, and he's determined to find a wife who can be a suitable mother. All he needs is someone demure, and biddable, and most importantly, scandal-free.

Lady Felicia Selby is no stranger to scandal, thanks to her numerous failed elopements and Society's insatiable curiosity about her misadventures. She has devoted many years to finding her one true love, desperate to escape the consequences of the family curse if she fails. But she has begun to give up hope.

Then, one evening, a chance encounter with Aphrodite changes everything.

I write humorously-ever-after romance, because I'm a big fan of stories where the hero and heroine banter and laugh and manage to fall in love while doing all kinds of fun (and sometimes crazy) things.

And don't forget the sexy times! Because we all know if someone is trying to make you laugh, they definitely are interested in pleasing you. I promise my stories will have lots of banter, laughter, sexy times, and of course love—everything you need for a guaranteed HEA.

I swear to God, if I ever get lucky enough to meet Donna Cummings, I’m going to pinch her so hard. That’s for making us all (aren’t I considerate to act on all of our behalf?!) wait so long for Hugh, and also for… Well, you’ll just have to read. LOL

I was forced to read this early copy of Lord Wastrel (Lore Rakehell’s BFF). *snickers* no I wasn’t. I jumped at the opportunity for several reasons:

1) I didn’t believe Donna actually finished writing it – needed proof.

2) I realllllly wanted to read this novella – Donna’s writing is funny as hell. Even her smut is funny.

3) Funny smut – do I need to say more?

So I got Wastrel and immediately dived in. It’s everything I thought it would be, and it has Rakehell in it, just for kicks, too. Well, not just for kicks – he actually helps, now that he’s all “experienced” in matters of the heart.

The plot in a nutshell: Wastrel is presented with a surprise that kind of changes his life. Wastrel needs a wife. Wastrel finds a wife. There are pinches involved. And one incredibly adorable girl.

I loved the two characters. Hugh (Wastrel) is charming, easy going and determined to find a mother for his child. He knows what he’s looking for and sets to find it. Felicia is sweet, kindhearted and funny. She’s also potentially abusive. And she’s a minx.

There’s a tiny subplot going for another character, and she’s a hoot. It definitely brings a little something extra to Felicia’s journey. Cryptic, right? Ha!!

I can’t say much more or I’ll ruin all the cute moments, and there are plenty.

Pick up this giggle-inducing afternoon delight. It’s just pure fun.

My rating: 4.5 Stars

** And I knocked it down a 1/2 star b/c I didn’t get the resolution for Aunt Uproar. Yup, I’m petty. lol

Like most of Donna Cummings fans I waited, and waited…and waited a little more for this book to be released. So when the author offered me an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review, I jumped on the chance to get an early peek.

You know all that stuff about anticipation making things sweeter? Well, it’s true. At least in the case of this lighthearted romantic romp set in Regency times.

Lord Wastrel is a delightful read on so many levels. It’s got a rakish hero who suddenly finds himself the father of a daughter he didn’t know he had, a very determined woman who sets her sights on becoming his wife, and a meddlesome goddess who likes to play in the love affairs of mortals.

Hugh (Lord Wastrel) realizes he has to mend his ways and settle down when an adorable little girl shows up claiming to be his daughter. In no time he has his ideal wife chosen, proposes, and she accepts. Smooth sailing, right?

Enter Lady Felicia, a childhood friend, who is a society darling for all the wrong reasons—mainly several failed elopement attempts. Felicia is set on finding her one true love in order to escape a notorious family curse. She’s far from the demur scandal-free wife Hugh is looking for, but when Lady Aphrodite (yes, the Goddess of Love) decides they’re meant for each other, you KNOW flirty romance and comedy will follow—especially given, there’s that trifling problem of Hugh already being engaged.

Felicia is kindhearted and sweet, hardly the type of person to break up an engagement, but her heart is set on Hugh so she’s really in a fix. You’ll have to read the book to learn how it all plays out, but the author did a great job of weaving her plot strings.

As always, Donna Cummings makes it seem easy blending romance and humor, and her grasp of the Regency period is pure escapist fun. Although Hugh and Felicia’s story line is wrapped up with a beautiful bow by the end, there is a secondary character who obviously will be back for her own HEA down the road….along with a few more characters waiting in the wings. I look forward to seeing this series continue, along with more of Donna Cumming’s witty take on love!

Lord Wastrel started out really good then after about half way through for me it just sort of seemed to drag along.

Lord Weyson, is scandalous but now he has found out he is a father. It was enough for him to stop being Lord Wastrel and find himself a wife. Not just any wife but a respectable one, one that will help him make sure that Lucinda won't have a scandal to dill with because of her being on the wrong side of the blanket.

Felicia is still trying to find her one true love and is about to think she will be a spinster when Aphrodite intervenes again and soon Felicia finds him. He is far from the one person she ever wanted her true love to be. It doesn't help that now that she has found him he is engaged to be married.

Hugh had always thought Felicia was pretty but he never would have considered her wife material, not with all of her scandals. So why isn't it now he can't seem to forget about her.

I like Felicia because she never just stood back and waited for love to find her she just went and tried to find it. She always believed she was curse and so she thought it was the only way to find her true love. It resulted in a lot of elopements that never went all the way. The only thing about her I didn't care for was the pinching, it seemed a bit ridiculous.

I love Hugh, I liked him from the first story. He is Simon's friend and he gave him a bit of grief for falling in love and so I loved him getting a bit of a payback in this story. Simon really rubbed somethings in and it was funny. It was also sweet to see him transfer into such a loving father, he was just yummy.

I also enjoy the side characters especially Great Aunt Aurore and I hope she gets her happily ever after!

I think my problem with this one is I am just not a fan of the couples getting married in the middle of the book and then there being things to resolve afterwards. To me once they get married it's over, so I just felt it drug out a little after that.

Overall, I enjoyed this one and if you like historical romance you might give it a try.

Aphrodite and Ares are at it again!

Lord Wastel was even more delightful than Lord Rakehell! Longer in length, the added character development really enhanced the story. And the addition of a strong-willed, cherubic 4-year old was a treat!

We met Felicia and Hugh in book 1, as they are best friends to Georgiana and Simon, respectively. Felicia, known as Flighty Felicia to the ton, has been endeavoring to find her one true love, by eloping every two weeks, to escape a family curse. She is very dismayed to realize Lord Wastel -- Hugh -- is her fated match. Not only because she's known him most of her life, but also because he's engaged to another woman!

Hugh, Lord Weyson, has recently discovered he's a father. In an attempt to provide his daughter a loving home and a strong family unit, he's sought out a staid woman to take as his wife. Things don't go exactly as he'd planned when Felicia begins her undaunted pursuit of him.

Felicia and Hugh are both prone to scandal and are both very strong-willed. This made for an entertaining courtship. The repartee between the two was witty and humorous -- Felicia is not a shrinking violet and never shied away from giving Hugh her opinion or a well-deserved pinch. She knew she loved Hugh but it took awhile for Hugh to realize his feelings.

Seeing both Felicia and Hugh with Lucinda, Hugh's daughter, was an absolute joy. Lucinda is equally as head-strong as her Papa and new Mama. She melted everyone's heart including mine. I could easily envision her using her bright eyes and adorable smiles to win whatever she desired of her parents.

This is a series I adore. I enjoy watching Aphrodite and Are playing at matchmaking -- and the love matches they make are charming, amusing, and a pleasure to watch unfold. I'm eager to see what Aphrodite has in store for Julian, Felicia's brother, and Tony, her cousin. Oh, and Aunt Aurore, too! It's sure to be uproarious fun!

Hugh and Felicia were dynamite together. I really enjoyed their story. Sometimes love is the kid you grew up with, but don't realize your feelings change. I read this story in one sitting. I didn't want to put it down.

Delightful, romantic reading I highly recommend!

Every sense is tentatively inspired by the way the author depicts the development of true love and it's insecurities! This story makes me feel good, I am dying for more such books!

Fanciful read

Interesting twist with the god and goddess. The characters were very likeable, however, boring. Similar to a hero and heroine in a fairytale. Each time the story started to show some depth the problem quickly resolved itself and everyone live happily ever after.
