❛❛“In terms of a lifetime, it’s hardly any time at all.”
Until then, I love you.
Yours always, Theo.❜❜

'How to (not) hate the Duke' is a fast-paced, addictive, and entertaining read. the author managed to blend different arcs and curves together in a harmonic manner :

❥ historical romance
❥ happily ever after
❥ ennemis to lovers
❥ forced proximity
❥ family secrets
❥ virgin heroine
❥ secret affair
❥ Love Letters
❥ family feud

the female main character, Georgiana Milford, daughter of a wealthy businessman, longed to elope her hectic and aristocratic Londonien life for a couple of weeks, prior to being reunited with her elder sister who has been in Nova Scotia for a decade and a half. therefore when her dear-friend, Charlotte, invited her to Merrick's house party in the country, she considered it the perfect excuse for a retreat and, moreover, to avoid fortune hunters. her quest for serenity and amusement was tarnished by the impromptu presence of her archenemy, Theodorus St. Clair. who had recently acquired from his late father alias the Duke of Despots the seventh title of 'Duke of Desborough', a dilapidated domain and a plethora of enemies. one of his fervent foes being the Milford family, his nearest neighbors. i absolutely loved how the ennemis to lovers romance was drawn throughout the storytelling, it was brilliantly enhanced with some fun and diversified actives that the protagonists had to attend and participate to with their friends. the way their relationship evolved into a sort of friends exploring intimately each other and flourished quickly after that into inseparable lovers.

many thanks to NetGalley and Entangled publishing for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review

Should I read in order?
You can read this alone! I believe it’s a stand alone...

Basic plot:
Georgiana is used to fighting off fortune hunters, but when her family’s worst enemy shows up at the 2 week house party she’s attending, she’s not sure she can make it through...

Give this a try if you want:
- Regency
- country estate setting
- house party!
- enemies to lovers (on the heroine’s side)
- rival families
- forbidden love vibes
- class difference – duke hero and merchant’s daughter heroine
- fashion loving/creating heroine
- interesting facts woven in – like lawn bowling licenses!
- a bit of a possessive hero – he gets a bit jealous for the heroine
- some euphemism banter in the bedroom
- very light epistolary (some letters written)
- medium steam – 3-ish full scenes

Ages:
- I don’t think they are mentioned, but both hero and heroine have a 27 year old sibling – so I’d guess heroine is around 23-ish and hero is around 30

First line:
Georgiana hid a yawn behind her gloved hand.

My thoughts:
Oh my gawd. I adored this book so SO much. This is my second by Haymore, and I very much liked the other book I read by her. So I will officially be stalking all her other releases!

This book is so dang sweet. And just all the things I adore in romance. The entire middle of this story is like Haymore poured romance catnip all over me. I was smiling and swooning and kicking my feet in the air.

I did find Georgiana’s blind following of her parents a bit annoying in the beginning of this book. But she’s been respected and loved by them (maybe a bit oppressively) and it’s understandable. It took me about half the book to REALLY warm up to her and then I loved her. I loved how she was able to vocalize her boundaries (even to her parents eventually) and maneuver society situations with fortune hunters. I loved her fall for Theo.

But Theo. Theo! Theo stole my heart. I adore heroes like him. Heroes that have deep feelings they keep hidden inside. Heroes that maybe aren’t running around being manwhores and who harbor a romantic heart. Heroes that when they fall, they fall with EVERYTHING in them. I loved him so, so much.

There were so many adorable scenes in this story. I highlighted like half the book (you can see in my quotes section hahaha). The scenes where he starts to fall for her, and gets playful and a bit flirty at the house party. (And my gosh I have been loving house party games lately in HR! So, so fun!) And the way he starts to fall, and gets all obsessed, a bit jealous and basically loses his mind for her.

The way he hears her moaning in her room and busts in to remove the threat.

The way he whispers that he’s filled with lust in her ears in a crowd of people.

The way he catches her eyes while he holds her quim and whisper orders her to send her maid away from her room.

Just fucking melting this whole book….

I ended up really loving the ending too. Theo is just such a GOOD person. I enjoyed the way it worked out. The way he was wanting to give her everything and worked so hard to do that. He really is the best. Love love love.

As a devoted Historical Romance enthusiast, I crave the perfect combination of tension, passion, and a dash of intrigue. "How (Not) to Hate a Duke" by Jennifer Haymore not only met but exceeded my expectations.

One of the highlights for me was the impeccable execution of the enemies-to-lovers storyline. Jennifer Haymore skillfully navigated the complex dance between Georgiana Milford and Theo St. Clair, the Duke of Desborough. The palpable tension between them kept me eagerly turning the pages, craving to witness the sparks fly as they moved from sworn enemies to something much more.

Georgiana Milford's character resonated with me on a profound level. Tired of suitors with ulterior motives, she seeks solace at a country house party, only to find herself face to face with Theo, the Duke of Desborough – her family's sworn enemy. This sets the stage for a riveting tale of love, conflict, and societal expectations.
Theo's struggles with inheriting his father's title, along with the accompanying gossip and feuds, added depth to the narrative. I found myself empathizing with his journey to alter the ton's opinion of him, proving that love can indeed blossom amidst the shadows of prejudice and judgment.

Jennifer Haymore masterfully crafts a world that is both enchanting and authentic. What I appreciated the most was her portrayal of a progressive woman in Georgiana, paired with a swoon-worthy gentleman in Theo. The dynamic between them, coupled with meaningful conflicts and a touch of spice, created a rich tapestry that Historical Romance fans will undoubtedly savor.

The characters are nothing short of wonderful. Their growth, vulnerabilities, and the evolution of their relationship kept me engrossed from beginning to end. The polite smiles concealing a brewing storm of emotions between Georgiana and Theo made for a compelling and memorable read.

"How (Not) to Hate a Duke" is a must-read for fans of Historical Romance. Jennifer Haymore has crafted a captivating tale that seamlessly weaves together love, conflict, and a touch of spice. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone seeking a well-rounded and enchanting historical romance experience.

How (Not) to Hate a Duke was an excellent read featuring an enemies to lovers romance.

Georgiana Milford may not come from a titled family but her status as a wealthy heiress has her being courted by every unattached man in need of funds. To escape the fortune hunters, Georgiana attends a two-week party at a lord's country estate but upon arrival she finds herself in an even worse situation as one of the guests is her father's greatest enemy: Theo St. Clair, the Duke of Desborough. Forced into each other's company, Georgiana and Theo trade barbs as they try to ignore the growing tension between them.

How (Not) to Hate a Duke immediately caught my eye for two reasons: the house party setting and the romance between rival families. Both of these are things I enjoy immensely in historical romances so I was excited to see the author's take on these. The house party was a ton of fun and I enjoyed the various games the characters played as well as the fact Georgiana and Theo found themselves paired up a few times. I liked that Georgiana's competitive nature wouldn't allow her to back out of the games when she found herself paired with Theo and that she was determined for them to win. The rivalry between the pair's family was primarily between the two's fathers but now that Theo's father has died, he inherits the rivalry along with his title.

The romance between Georgiana and Theo was delightful from the start. I loved how clear it was that they were attracted to each other despite the discord between their families. Theo is happy to follow through on that attraction while Georgiana is more inclined to hold to the grudge against him. It was fun watching him change her mind and I enjoyed the progression of their romance. The one thing I didn't really like was around three-quarters into the book something happens to separate the two and they remained that way for pretty much the rest of the book until right before the end. That felt like way too long of a separation but I was happy with how things were resolved.

Overall How (Not) to Hate a Duke was an enjoyable read and I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a fun historical romance.

Notes:
-More “telling” than “showing” so it made for a boring story and I ended up skimming a lot. I was tempted to DNF but I thought it would probably get better later. It didn’t, in my opinion.

-I’m not convinced that they fell in love with each other. It felt forced. More of that “telling” rather than “showing.”

-Heroine’s passion/love for fashion seems like an afterthought. It’s only ever mentioned at the beginning and end of the book. I don’t think the author truly explains why she’s into fashion. I certainly don’t understand why it was important to bring it up in the epilogue when it was never a big part of her character or important to the story.

-Heroine is an heiress, a daughter of a merchant? But I don’t think the author mentioned what kind of business he had. Very vague descriptions.

-The family feud. I didn’t like the animosity towards the hero for things his father did. He didn’t deserve any of that. It was frustrating to read those scenes. It took the heroine too long to alter her viewpoint, that maybe he is trying to right the wrongs of his father. Her parents accuse him of horrible things without any evidence. 😡

-Some modern behaviors/dialogue.

-Bath scene. Heroine is kind of bold for an innocent.

⭐💫
1½ stars.

➕ What I liked :

Country estate setting.

House party.

OK hero.

➖ What I disliked:

Too much telling and not enough showing.

Unlikable and annoying heroine.
(The heroine is immature, a shrew, ridiculous, rude, obnoxious)

Emotionally immature heroine.

Too anachronistic/modern.
(It is more a contemporary romance disguised as a historical romance.)

The heroines horrible parents.

Vague and underdeveloped main characters.

How both the heroine and her parents treated the hero… blamed him for what his father did.
The resentment and the animosity towards the hero was horrible and he did not deserve that at all.

The heroine did not think for herself or want to see things for what they were… just followed along with what her parents said and did.

No chemistry.

The romantic build up/romance was very unconvincing/lacking.

Boring.

Not a believable couple.
(The hero deserved someone better…someone that was not immature and horrible.)

Lacking depth.

Jumbled.

Loved this fun enemies to lovers historical romance! It was cute, and the banter was perfect. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because it felt rushed in parts.

Theo was a fantastic MMC, and I adored Georgiana. The romance was sweet with just the right amount of angst and tension. I also always enjoy a house party romance. All that sneaking around is delicious.

This book was great, and it seemed like the sister would be the focus of a future book. I can't wait for what looks to be a wonderful second chance romance!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This is my 23rd book by Jennifer Haymore. I read a couple of her books in 2018 and then devoured 17 books of hers from Jan-Apr 2019. I loved them. I love her writing and her stories. She gets great depth and the sex scenes are well written. She went almost a year and half and only wrote 1 book but in May 2023 she started writing more and I’m so glad she did.

I loved Georgiana and Theo. I loved their story, their personalities and their chemistry. Ever book I read is a HEA and that’s a given but sometimes I’m reading thinking OMG what is going to happen. Sex scenes were really good. Just a great overall read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced copy from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've read several books written by Jennifer Haymore and her historical romances are always pleasant. I prefer her Scottish lairds over her English gentry, but they all feature her signature sweetness. How (Not) to Hate a Duke was a complex story that had me feeling a multitude of emotions regarding the heroine. She was very aggressive and bratty towards the hero despite never meeting him before this event. She based all her misconceptions on her family's rivalry with his and his horrible father, not the duke himself. She kept repeating her dad's opinion rather than forming one of her own. I thought she was being so unfair towards him despite Theo trying over and above to change her bratty mind. It took nearly 60% of the novel for her to come to her senses. I swear she was Angelica Pickles incarnate.

I was really bummed out by Georgiana's behavior until we came to the parlor games. Ooh boy! That was my favorite part of the book. Nothing riles me up like some games helping restrained Victorians blow off steam. I nearly lost my mind when all the partygoers were blindfolded and had to guess their partners. Georgiana sat on Theo's lap and knew immediately who it was with nary a touch. The second juiciest part of the game was whenever a guest was incorrect, they owed another player a kiss as a punishment. It was a delicious double feature. That helped bring me out of my own bratty attitude and Georgiana eventually reeled in her disdain. There was also an unfortunate family meddling that soured my mood further into the novel as well. I liked the chemistry and Theo's earnestness, but Georgiana was the common denominator in all conflicts.

I have enjoyed every Jennifer Haymore book I've read to varying degrees. Theo was a wonderful hero who deserved far better than he received from the heroine. Nothing like a little parlor game to help lift the spirits. It certainly made me feel better. I liked the cameo of the couple from a previous novel and they relayed the most helpful relationship advice to our protagonists. If only Georgiana had heeded them earlier and she would have learned How (Not) to Hate a Duke far earlier.

In this follow up to Earls Rush In, Georgiana is tired of being pursued for her fortune and Theo is tired of being judged for his father’s actions.

Georgiana takes a while to warm up to and there are anachronisms and historical setting-related things that it took me out of the story. But none of that would have bothered me if the third act breakup had made sense.

This sudden new phase of Theo’s arc took place off page for the last %15 of the book. It was unsatisfying to be told he made this improvement and improved people’s opinion of him without us seeing it. Why couldn’t they have gotten married and struggled together to make those changes? A rushed ending with too much telling ruined what might’ve been a four star read. YMMV

A wealthy heiress entirely aware that men want her for her money, Georgiana travels to a house party as the guest of her dearest friends. When she arrives, she notices, to her dismay, that her neighbor and enemy is there. Georgiana's family and Theo's family have been feuding for longer than either can remember, but Theo can't help but be drawn to Georgiana. However, Georgiana wants nothing to do with the man society dubbed the "Duke of Despots" just like his father. Theo has no idea how to convince Georgiana he isn't the dastardly villain everyone thinks he is, but he sure tries.

I always enjoy historical romances that take place at a house party. There's something romantic and fun about the country setting, the variety of games and activities planned, and the forced proximity nature of the party. That's certainly the case for this book. The lush grounds, underground waterways and caves, sprawling lawns, and more all sound like a beautiful place to spend time, especially for someone stressed and needing an escape, like Georgiana. Too bad her nemesis is also there.

Theo has been trying to fix the damage his father did as Duke, but it feels like for every two steps forward, he has to take three steps back. Georgiana has heard a lot about the terrible actions of Theo's father, and Theo is considered guilty by association. At first, she is unwilling to compromise in her feelings about Theo, but the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes he's nothing like his father. It's interesting to see her come to these revelations and then try to convince others. She experiences firsthand all the prejudices and preconceptions Theo has suffered through, that's for sure, and I think it makes her way more empathetic to his struggles.

Georgiana and Theo have a wonderful love story with tons of chemistry and sexual tension, and I adored their enemies-to-lovers romance. There's one scene where the couple shares a boat to a cave that is especially swoon-worthy. But even when it seems like things are going in the right direction for this couple, they still must overcome her parents' hatred and earn their acceptance. I didn't love Georgiana's parents, though I understood their concern. It was good to see growth in all of the characters, and they begin to see past their prejudices and preconceived notions. Other characters, like the other house party guests and Theo's brother Sebastian, are intriguing, too, as are the family secrets uncovered.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing m e with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Tropes: enemies to lovers; family feud; house party; MMC's redemption; independent MFC
Steam level: 3
Standalone

4.5 stars rounded up. This is one of the better enemies-to-lovers HR's I've read in a while. The dialog is sharp and the storyline engaged me throughout. The author does an excellent job of world building, and Georgiana and Theo have strong chemistry. Theo is especially easy to sympathize with, as he is trying to separate his reputation from that of his deceased monster of a father and feels as if he's constantly failing. His character shows a deprecating sense of humor that's endearing, and the lighthearted scenes work as well as the more pensive and emotional scenes.

One of the aspects I liked best was how the 3rd act angst was resolved. Both Georgiana and Theo have thorough character arcs and grow as people, instead of becoming simply mired in lust and emotion. The HEA is well earned and believable, setting up the plot for the next book without making the reader feel as if everything was wrapped up too easily.

There are a few nitpicks: a couple of anachronisms stood out, and a character who is kind of the OM at the house party abruptly disappears from the plot. Also, I have to admit it took me until around the 50% mark to fully warm up to Georgiana. While Theo is supposed to be the one who hides behind a mask of disdain, she seemed fairly snobbish at times and overly dismissive of him. I felt that Finn and Charlotte, who are their best friends, could have helped smooth the way a bit more at the beginning.

However, as mentioned, the main focus is really on how Georgiana and Theo mature by the end, finding each other while finding themselves. It's a nice change of pace from the "enemies falling in lust, but where's the love?" issue I've had with some books using this trope.

I read an advanced reader copy of this book, and this is my voluntary review. Opinions are my own.

Georgina Milford has a large dowry but no title. After avoiding fortune hunters for the season she gladly accepts her friend Charlotte’s invitation to a friend’s house party. Her parents want her to marry well but they have one mortal enemy the Duke of Desborough who would not be welcomed on the list. Of course at the house party the Duke is in attendance at the invitation of Charlotte’s husband Finn. But it is the new Duke, Theo St. Clair, who is trying to improve his family's name after his father spent a lifetime causing ruin. The house party is fun with picnics, hunts, games and flirting. And Theo St. Clair and Georgiana seem to be running into each other everywhere.

This is delightfully fun. Theo comes off haughty but he is very frustrated that he can’t be seen for himself and not his father’s reputation. Georgiana’s father is quick to complain and proclaim every slight of his family as they live on neighboring properties. I love when Georgiana realizes she has judged him unfairly. And giving him a chance means stolen kisses and getting a bit steamy. The setting at a house party relaxes some of the rules of chaperones giving them more time together. They are playful and fun and I like that though she is inexperienced she is bold and independent. I didn’t love the predictable breakup moment but of course love is going to win.

This is not listed as a sequel but Charlotte and Finn were the main characters of Earl’s Rush In (May 2023). I enjoyed that book as well and liked them being part of this story.

Georgiana Milford may not have a title but as an heiress she is caught in the cross hares of the fortune hunting men of the ton. Needing a reprieve from London she goes to a two week house party only to come face-to-face with the man her family has sworn to despise.

Theo St. Claire, The Duke of Despots (correction: Duke of Desborough), has spent the majority of his life avoiding his father. Now taking on the mantle of the dukedom he finds that no one will give him the chance to prove he is nothing like this father. And the one person who he wishes to see the true him is the daughter of his neighbour and the sworn enemy of Theo’s father.

Yet as the two are forced into each other’s company during the house party, their stinging barbs turn into something more scintillating as they find they can’t keep their hands and mouths to themselves. 😏

As always, Jennifer Haymore writes a MMC that I adore. Oh Theo, how he created a haughty demeanour to protect himself because he just wanted to prove himself. To show that he was a better man than his father, but how frustrated he was because Georgiana’s father and the rest of the village wouldn’t give him even the sliver of a chance.

I really enjoyed the strength of Georgiana’s character. How when Theo mentions wanting to be judged on his one merits, she realizes that she has been treating him unjustly and gives him a chance. And later on in the novel when confronted by her parents at the house party she stands up for the person she knows Theo to be and doesn’t waver.

This being said the third act breakup kind of broke me while reading it. Leading up to it I was so proud of Georgiana for her choice. And then with the further revelation by her parents and how Theo too was confronted, how his response had Georgiana making a decision I wish hadn’t have had to happen. I get that it necessitated Theo to action, but I wish it wouldn’t have hurt so much to read it. (Was I too invested in the story, yes. Am I always with Jennifer Haymore’s writing? Also, yes.)

I also loved seeing Charlotte and Finn from the previous story and how, having both known Theo they were supporters of him and staunch allies. It just made me love them even more. (And now I want to reread their book!)

Thank you to the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

While I did enjoy this book and the writing style, there were a couple of things that just prevented me from loving it. First off the games they played during the house party seemed a little silly. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t know. Then the two main characters, I loved that they were forced together and had this eye opening experience with one another, but at the same time, it almost felt like their relationship was more attraction based rather than love based. The family rivalry was a nice touch and added good drama, but I still found it a little silly at times. Also the entire last 25% the couple wasn’t even together. This blew my mind that I read so much of the book where they were not together. I just wanted to see more from them and I didn’t get that. That being sad, I still enjoyed the book and found it to be an easy historical romance read. I would definitely read more books by this author after reading this one.

The only problem with this book was the pacing. The characters were fine, the plot was a little light, but fine, but the whole thing just felt incredibly long and drawn out.

It's an OK read, but I liked the last book I read by this author better, so I will definitely try others.

I am definitely going to be reading more of their work.

He left because his father was a crazy fucker who everyone hated and rightfully so.

She is the daughter of his neighbours who really hate his family and by extension him. But he is duke now and he plans to make changes, but her father won’t allow that.

They find themselves on an estate party away from the ton and love blooms.

I liked it - BUT, he made his money SHIPPING - we all know what that means

Enthralling levels of tension, passion, and intrigue.

“You’re so warm,” she observed. “Burning,” he said quietly. “For you.”

A short and swoony romance with plenty of angst, a bit of steam, and a touch of spice. I like that the FMC was progressive for her time period and knew her own mind the redemption arc of the MMCs character was perfect. He was a good character to start but he was determined to make the world better for his people and his lady which is why I fell madly in love with him. There wasn’t a lot of spice but the chemistry was hot and clandestine affairs hotter so I have no complaints.

I can still remember the first Historical Romance book I read, it was Kathleen Woodiwiss's Shanna. Anyone remember her? Back in the day of the ripped notice covers? Showing my age I am sure! I worked in Washington DC at the time and rode the train, the line ( orange ) that I rode seemed to have readers on it and many times when they finished a book they would leave it on the seat for the next reader to pick up ...that is where I found Shanna. I thought what a great way to pass the time while I set there. I found that I enjoyed a bit of romance mixed in with my thrillers and I began sprinkling it into my reading...when I needed a break from what I was reading or I just needed something different. They were, and still are fun, and entertaining, and for the most part light.

How ( Not ) To Hate A Duke, the newest book by Jennifer Haymore was my recovering from surgery book. I wanted something that would keep me entertained, but also something that would not tax my steroid and pain meds brain. I didn't want to have to think about what was going on, or try to figure out a puzzle, and this book was absolutely perfection for that.

The Milford's and The St. Clairs live on adjoining estates, Daughter Georgina ( Milford ) and the new Duke Desborough have grown up hating each other due to a feud between the family. They are thrown together at a country house get away, where they get a chance to know each other.

I loved the characters in How ( Not ) To Hate A Duke, Georgina was sweet but she was also a strong woman. I loved the way that Haymore made her progressive, not a weak whiny lady of the time. Theo was of course a swoon worthy Duke, he was moody and had a quiet demeanor that could come off as aloof or even at times, sad. Haymore knew how to make the sparks fly between the two, you often felt the tension between them, but you could also feel the thaw as it unfolded.

The story was well written and entertaining. It was easy to read and quick paced. It also had everything I needed and want in a Historical Romance ...enemies to lovers, probably one of my favorite romance tropes. The men in waistcoats, tight britches, and tall riding boots, women in fanciful gowns, parlor games...oh could they get steamy, and of course family secrets and drama.

Was How ( Not ) To Hate A Duke predictable? Yep, most, if not all romance books are. I think it is why I love them, they give me some sense of comfort, 90 percent of them give me a happy ending and the rest will rip the soul and heart out of my chest. Even at that, I love them.

So for my romance readers out there..pick up How ( Not ) To Hate A Duke, it is a fun, heartfelt, lightly steamy read, and if you are not a romance reader, it would make a great palette cleanser between your regular reads if needed. I can't wait to go on a search for more Jennifer Haymore books!

How (Not) to Hate a Duke

Georgiana Milford is a wealthy heiress without a title. She is well aware that because of this she is highly sought after for her money. She manages to stay clear of being compromised by these men. But she is polite when the situation calls for it.

Theo St. Clair is the seventh Duke of Desborough, also known as his father before him the Duke of Despots. The horrible title was accurate for his father, but nothing could be farther from the truth regarding Theo. When Georgiana meets her family's sworn enemy, she sees what she has been told to expect. Theo is very good at hiding his feelings, so he doesn't let on when her barbs strike a nerve.

Georgiana sees her friend Charlotte and they begin to chat about a house party Charlotte and her husband have been invited to attend. She invites Georgiana to join them at the two-week event. She gets permission from her parents to attend after they scour the guest list to be sure no one unworthy will be attending.

Unbeknownst to Georgiana, Charlotte's husband has also invited Theo to come to the house party as well. Once they settle themselves after arriving, they meet, and both are not pleased and consider leaving. But each of them would prefer to stay and enjoy the weekend and try to stay away from each other. As the week's events unfold, they are thrown together and are soon drawn to each other. Besides the danger of being ruined, a family secret is about to be revealed and will threaten their future happiness together.

This was a fun and steamy romance. Georgiana comes off as a touch arrogant in her dealings with Theo until she gets to know the real person not the despot her family has ranted and raved about. I think we finally see who she really is once she lets her guard down and sees Theo for the man he is and strives to be.

I enjoy the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers storylines. This one is no exception, it was done to perfection. I kept waiting for Hawkins to do something dastardly. But Jennifer Haymore new best and took this story into a direction I did not see coming. The ending was perfectly suited for these characters with just enough steamy scenes to feel the love they have for one another.

I always enjoy Jennifer Haymore’s books so began this one expecting to be right royally entertained. I was not disappointed! Taking a page from The Taming Of The Shrew, this is very definitely an enemies to lovers story in which poor Theo St Clair, Duke of Desborough, is pitted against the daughter of his next door neighbour, who passionately loathes his family. Son of a cruel, debauched profligate, Theo has vowed to repair the damage done by his father and return his estate to a profitable venture for both his family and his tenants. He’s stunningly good looking—of course—and witty and generally just the sort of duke any girl would fall for at once. Sadly for Theo, who is attracted to Georgiana Milford from the start, she is not just any girl. Georgiana is an heiress, who has spent season after season fighting off fortune hunters while working in her father’s office when not attending balls and the like. She has also formed a strong dislike for Theo. To be honest, I wasn’t taken with her at first. She came across as a rude, spoiled and a somewhat childish brat in both her early conversations with her best friend Charlotte and her exchanges with Theo. Thankfully, she mellowed and as the story unfolded I found myself cheering for her and Theo, who face a pretty bumpy ride to true love. Overall, I thought the characters were well drawn, the setting was charming and the story entertaining. This has been a perfect piece of regency escapism and I enjoyed reading it.

Georgiana Milford may be a wealthy heiress without title. It’s vexing enough to be courted by every fortune-hunting noble during the Season. Because during a merry two-week party at a lord’s country home, she’s forced to endure her father’s greatest enemy and the most wretched duke in all of England: the Duke of Despots. Theo St. Clair has hardly been the Seventh Duke of Desborough long enough to straighten his cravat, yet the ton are already nipping at his bootstraps. Starting with the Milford family who are convinced he’s exactly like his father.
A well written book, which I struggled with at the beginning as I disliked both Theo & Georgianna but I stuck with it & I’m glad I did as I gradually came to like the couple. I loved the verbal banter – enemies to lovers often has the best banter. I also loved the chemistry between them & how it became hotter & hotter. A very well written romance which I thoroughly enjoyed once I got into the story
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Georgiana is a wealthy heiress who is just done with all the suitors who want to be with her. Theo is newly the 7th Duke of Desborough dubbed the "Duke of Despots" (inherited by his late father) but he’s trying to change his image around. While at a 2 week party at a Lord’s country’s estate, they both end up meeting but their families are also feuding. This sadly didn’t live up to my expectations. The characters especially Georgiana and the way she childishly reacted with Theo. I just weren’t liking it much, they just didn’t fit well for me. I had no idea this story stemmed from Earls Rush In. I still plan on reading more of Jennifer’s books though.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I am over the moon about this book. The characters were fantastic. Hands down to Theo and Georgiana for carrying this book to the highest form of respect under the historical romance category. The plot was truly brilliant. The creative ideas and characters are simply marvelous.
When the father rushed into the house and Shook Georgina by the shoulders. I literally could feel his rage through the dialogue and the characters actions. Ladies Theo was flawless. The man carried is personality with the highest regard of grace. After reading the story I think that Theo is the one who has grown the most.
I loved that Georgianna carried herself like a lady should during her time. Her willingness to not give up on the thing that is true to her was the highlight of the book. The stolen moments of romance and that blossoms is so beautiful. I can only say the writing is outstanding and very talented. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Cute little story. Is it part of a series? Unclear but keen to find out Charlotte and her husband’s story - seems there’s a lot more to find out about them.

As for the FMC and MMC in this book - what were their names again? - I didn’t think there was as much tension as I would expect in an enemies-to-lovers. #nospoilers but the reason for the family feud was also predictable. Over all a cute story but I was more interested in the side characters …

I think the title should be how to love a dastardly duke who makes a reader’s mouth water.
Theo hadn’t been able to distance himself from his father’s horrible reputation but suddenly it becomes important when gorgeous Georgina appears on his radar.
I love that he fell first.
The steamy scenes are intensely sensual and are vividly described.
I snickered when they were swapping names for male body parts.
It’s also heart stopping romantic and made me feel all sappy inside.
I’ll take a duke 😁
Thanks to Entangled and NetGalley for the early read.
