Fifth of Blood is Book 3 of the Fate - Fire - Shifter - Dragon Series and immediately follows the events of Book 2, Flux of Skin.

What a brilliant addition to this series. Radcliffe mixes fast action with intricate detail to create a story that you won’t soon forget. It follows directly from the previous novel in the series and ramps up the action to a much higher level. The story is vivid and larger than life, drawing you in. I could barely put his novel down! As a master storyteller Radcliffe merges myth with reality, history with the present, romance with action into a story that one cannot help but love.
Character growth in this novel is astounding. Although we’ve met most of the characters in previous novels, many change in leaps and bounds throughout this one. That said, there is a cause for every change. Nobody ever has an unexplained personality change. Character development, although tied directly to the plot, is phenomenal and you really get to know them throughout this novel. It was really nice to see a cast of characters that didn’t remain stagnant. The new characters introduced are also quite well developed and help to round out the cast as well as further the story.
This novel was emotionally intense and a wild ride. It brought tears to my eyes but also left me laughing. It is definitely a must read instalment to a must read series.
Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love these books. The writing is so good. Pacing is perfect. Characters are sympathetic. This book has it all. Romance, action and excitement. Rysa has lost her talisman and her powers are out of whack. She has to stay away from Ladon and she is suffering because of it. Ladon and Rysa are so hot together and the eroticism of when they are together. Their separation is excruciatingly painful. Rysa is extremely sick and her abilities are tearing at her. The group go on a quest to save Rysa and meet up with some Roman emperors. Things get so exciting and this book was so good that I didn't want to stop reading it but I had stuff to do. Life always getting in my way of reading, grrr. The last 100 pages of this book are so exciting and I was screaming “Noooo!” a lot. Also, I was biting my nails from nervousness a lot too. I am amazed at how good a writer Kris is. I eagerly await the next installment of this series. 5 stars.
“And she’d been right about everyone wanting a piece of her.”
Kris Austen Radcliffe has done it again, another FIVE STAR review for her third novel in a trilogy that I am now such a huge fan of. These books are worth a read. The world she paints is incredibly detailed, easily imagined, and simple to follow. The characters are extremely well built, I swear she must have charts or something because her characters, all of them, grabbed my every attention and I fell in love with them all the moment the series began. Fifth of Blood is no different.
The friction in the beginning of this novel pulls at the reader. Pulls the reader deep into the world that Radcliffe has painted. Rysa and Ladon, the perfect romance between the two begin the novel apart. Your heart aches for them. You keep reading quickly, unable to put the book down, to get to the part where the two lovers get back into each other’s arms again. It captures your attention fully and completely, as you turn through the pages holding on to Radcliffe’s every word in hopes that the next chapter brings the two lovers closer.
Rysa has lost her talisman. Without it, she has lost control of all of her abilities and while apologies for mistakes made in the previous novels are made, Rysa is rightfully angry at the whole situation. She needs her talisman, her man, and her dragon. Just as they start to get close chaos rises and makes everything for them so much more difficult. Truly, nothing is ever that easy, everything has its own problems and the question is, can they rise above? Can they find her talisman before it’s too late? Will Ladon watch another lover perish?
“’Rysa!’ Ladon roared Everything remaining, ever single pin and staple of humanity that held together his mind, snapped.”
It took me a quick three, okay maybe four, days to read this novel. However, the closer I got to the end, the faster I read and the later I would stay up reading. I mean, I finished this novel last night after drinking TWO coffees just to stay awake long enough to finish the novel. Oh boy, was it worth it.
Let me say this too: The first book in the series “Games of Fate” is free on all ereader platforms. You can download an ereader from any smart phone (I have ibooks, kindle, and kobo all on my phone).
Wow. Just wow. The Fate-Fire-Shifter-Dragon series was already fantastic, but somehow Kris Austin Radcliffe managed to raise the bar yet again in this amazing book. Rysa has so much going against her, stolen out-of-control enthralling abilities, pain of separation from Ladon and so much more, but somehow she keeps going. A true heroine in every way and a grand lead for this series. This extremely well-written story has a great plot full of action and thrills, fantastic characters both new and returning, Derek, Trajan, Hadrian, Billy, etc. and a great foe in Vivicus. If you weren't totally addicted before, there's no way to avoid it after this book. Wow indeed.
Brilliant. The saga gets better with each installment. Her control is minimum and her body is now set on a self destruct course. Will she take her lover and dragon down with her? How will she interact with the others they come into contact with. Immortals, dragons, shifters and burners all seem to want a piece of her. Can she come out in one piece? A beautifully imaginative piece of writing that will have you experiencing all her ups and downs. The characters have grown into themselves and now they not only vivid but jumping off the page. I got a free copy for a honest review.
It's so sad that it had to take me reading three books in this strange and wierd series to understand what's going on because honestly speaking this is the most confusing series I've ever been asked to read...sighs.
With that being said, out of all three books I definitely enjoyed this one the most. Some parts still dragged but I just think that's part of the authors writing style. While the reader gets engaged in all the activity going on, all the syspense, here comes the author with dry parts that make the reader just want to skim through to continue reading the funny, juicy bits.
I think this book's saving grace was Billy, the super funny and way to loyal Burner. His parts definitely made each page funny as I just didn't know what would come out of his mouth next. Naming the swords Poke and Stab...hilarious! Ms. Radcliffe definitely needs to keep putting him into these books because he makes the story fun and engaging. There should be some kind of cure for Burners like him and Jasmine.
Overall this third installment was filled with many page turning events, including finally finding out what happened with Sandro Torres, Rysa's father. Though that left many unanswered questions as well, but at least we have a starting point. Hopefully more will be revealed in the next book. Sister and Sister - Dragon actually behaved themselves and were more helpful and less hostile towards Rysa which was great be it that she risked her life to save their human. I think for readers just as confused as me throughout this series, this third book will be sort of an eye opener and some clarity and understanding, with definitely less confusion that the first two books provided.
FYI...author still needs to provide a glossary for readers to understand all the strange terms and names she writes about!
Fifth of Blood is book 3 in Kris Austen Radcliffes Fate-Fire-Shifter-Dragon series.
As Rysas shifter abilities cause her scents to flow overboard, no one can come within 30 feet of them except for the newly dracae-improved Derek.
A new threat emerges and the group must unravel the threads and discover who has now put them at risk and their relationships are pushed to the limit.
This is a great addition to the series as we deal with new emotions and as each character tries to deal with the events of this book and the fallout from previous instalments we get to see them grow as individuals and see he change in the relationships. This instalment follows Radcliffes pattern or emotion, action, intrigue, romance and loyalty.Nn
I was gifted a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Book 3 is the perfect continuation and conclusion of the trilogy. Once again the story and the character development rival each other for the best part of the book. An action packed story with friendship, romance, and enemies this story is a must read for anyone who read the previous installments of the series. For those that enjoy sci-fi, paranormal, romance, and/or fantasy novels you really should check out the entire series.
As Book 3 completes Rysa and Ladon's initial story line, I am hit again by how "real" the characters appear.
I loved this book! This is the 3rd book in the series. I highly recommend reading Games of Fate (book 1) and Flux of Skin (book 2) before you start this one. You won't want to miss any of the characters background for this one! What's not to love with a book about Dragons, Immortals, Shapeshifters, and non-stop action! And that's just to start with. Kris Radcliffe always captures my attention with any book she writes. I can't wait to read more!
Rysa, Ladon and Dragon continue their headlong race to keep away from every faction in the mythological war threatening to tear the world apart.
In the Fifth of Blood new friendships and relationships are forged, Rysa and Ladon deepen their connection, and deadly secrets from Rysa's past are finally revealed.
I really enjoyed the third book of this series. I love that we get to know Derek a little more. Its fast-paced, it's intricate... You can feel the characters' emotions! If you have read Games of Fate (book 1) and Flux of Skin (book 2), you must read Fifth of Blood...
Wow, have Rysa, Ladon and Dragon been through enough already?! Fifth of Blood is one tragedy after another until the tear jerking end full of sacrifices!
Definite must read and I can't wait to continue on with the series!
received this book for free/ARC read am voluntarily reviewing third book of the series continues to be wonderfully interesting with some twists and turns highly recommend reading
Rysa abilities are spiraling out of control and Landon-human and Dragon can't fix it! What is the world to do? Send in the big guns to correct the issue of course. New characters and lots of older ones return to make the book one of the best in the series. From the agony of no touching to the final showdown and fix, you are riding the rollercoaster of emotion with them all. Great continuation of an awesome story.
