The Vampire's Housekeeper #2

The Vampire Hunter Comes To Call

Rate this book
Being a vampire's housekeeper definitely has its downsides. The walls bleed. The ghosts play pranks, and the boss can get murderously angry if his prune juice runs low.

In this hilarious follow-up to Employment Interview With A Vampire, Deidre struggles to keep her sanity and her patience in the face of her boss's many "peculiarities". Nathaniel is unliving proof that tempers don't necessarily sweeten with age; he stubbornly clings to his gramophone, denounces the Internet as witch magic and is still fuming over the passage of the nineteenth amendment.

To Deidre, one thing is clear. Nathaniel needs to get a life...or at least an undead life. When Deidre takes it upon herself to expand her curmudgeon boss's social circle, she has no way of knowing that her efforts will bring a vampire hunter calling.

Armed with a walker, a fanny pack filled with stakes and a 40-year-old quest for vengeance, Silas may just prove Nathaniel's match.

Will the battle between Nathaniel and the vampire hunter be a fight to the death, or will someone break a hip first? And what happens to Deidre if the prune juice runs out? Find out in this satirical short story

This series cracks me up. You would think that a series with a vampire would be dramatic when a vampire hunter is added, but this is the Vampire's Housekeeper Chronicles, thank you very much. Nothing is ever what it seems.

This story includes Facebook, arthritic knees, and a chess tournament to the death. Really, what more could you want in a book? I highly recommend this entire series.

Second adventure of Deirdre and Nathaniel. Housekeeper and vampire. Loved it, it was funny and entertaining, same as the first story. I look forward to read more.

I think this one is part of book 1 in my set but I’m not really sure. If so, I really did love the whole battle of the geezers.

This is the second chapter of the book, “The Vampire’s Housekeeper.” This chapter was, as the first, generously given free by the author. (See my review of the first chapter, “Employment Interview with a Vampire.”) In addition to Diedre, the narrator/housekeeper, and Nathaniel, the 300 year old vampire with anachronistic views on women who has voted for Eisenhower in the last number of elections, we are also introduced to a couple of resident ghosts; Dex, artist and former nuclear-disarmament activist till Nathaniel got to ‘im, and Sloppy Joe, do-rag/Tupac-wife-beater-T-shirt-wearing wannabe White rap star, who provide comment and hi-jinks throughout.

Well, in this story, Nathaniel is visited by Silas, sort of a REAL-senior citizen and self-proclaimed vampire hunter, propelled by his walker and carrying a wooden stake in his fannypack, intending to do away with Nathaniel. Seems he “turned” Silas’s (well, former) girlfriend Hannah some many years ago. Of course, Nathaniel remembers Silas, and they end up resolving their conflict by…well, now, one can’t give away surprises, can one…

Not as hilarious as the first story, but made me smile and chuckle nonetheless. All of these characters, including Diedre, are quite quirky in their own right, and their interactions add to the general quirkiness level. I believe there are three other stories, and the author gives us a preview of the next one, “Duel with the Werefrog,” looks promising. Thanks again to Ms. Bennett for providing this free of charge.

I'm becoming a fan of this series. I loved the first. The second is even funnier. Nathaniel is, by far, the best vampire ever. I hope he never starts to sparkle.
