Skye Druids #5

Still of the Night

Rate this book
Forest child they call me. It is within the woods that I find solace and feel the magic of my ancestors. For I am a Druid. One who can trace her roots from the very first to call the Isle of Skye home.

The isle draws many to its magical shores. It drew him. Imposing, bold, and handsome. We fell hard and fast that summer. Then he left with the tide to the city.

I learned to live with the cracks and fissures on my pieced-together heart, the scars only I can feel.

Until the day he walks back into my life asking for a second chance. I yearn to give it to him. How can I not? He’s the only one I’ve ever loved.

The only one I will ever love.

But there is a darkness growing on the isle—a treacherous evil that has targeted him. I’ve lost him once.

I won’t lose him again.

A Druid with a secret past. A man looking for a second chance. Return to Scotland and New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant’s Skye Druids, where magic and danger intertwine and a tale of love, sacrifice, and second chances unfolds.

Donna Grant is back with another installment in the Skye Druids series. As I’ve been enjoying this series a lot, I was looking forward to this book.

Grant successfully captures the romance and tension well with this book. I love the couple’s interaction and the slow burn of their romance. The world also continues to grow and expand. I loved that this book explored new horizons. It was very exciting to read.

The only other book I’ve read from Donna has been Rising Sun and I LOVED it. So going into this book I didn’t realize it was part of a series. I didn’t read the other previous ones but I wasn’t left confused whatsoever which I’m so glad for. I’m definitely going to go back and read them though! This book was so good! The backstory, the plot, the romance, EVERYTHING! My favorite character would have to be sweet Callum and I hope we’ll get more of him in the next story. My jaw dropped at the ending and I CANNOT wait for the next one!

Skye is the mysterious island of the Druids. This community has been under attack and the war is still ongoing. This time the forest child is under attack along with the love of her life. These series are interconnected but this one is my favorite and it’s just keeps getting better and more complex with each new story. Just when you get one answer three more crop up. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in this amazing series.

02/17/2025: Re-read in advance of reading the next novel in this series, Blood Skye. I needed to refresh my memory of how Still of the Night ended and how it sets the stage for Blood Skye.

08/28/2024: Donna Grant keeps upping the ante in this Skye Druids series and the other series in her Dark Universe. There’s romance, action, and lots of Druid magic. With additional story lines and new and ever increasing evil characters and situations, the tension builds in this fast-paced novel. It kept me guessing how this story would end and how many threads would remain open for further exploration in novels to come. I always eagerly look forward to Donna Grant’s new releases!

ARC Review

Still of the Night follows Ariah, Skye’s Tea Shop owner, Druid and Forest Child. Ariah has always been drawn to the forest and its trees but the evil that’s stalking Druids on the island has set its sights on her now and is haunting her dreams.

Killian is an Irishman who visited Skye 9 years ago and fell in love with Ariah but then chose his career at his family’s law firm in Ireland over Ariah who could not and would not leave her beloved Skye to live in the big city. Now he’s back, having left his family and career behind to find the only woman he ever loved and beg her forgiveness.

Killian gets thrown into the danger on Skye one night when he finds Ariah sleep walking and makes friends with Skye’s outcast, Callum. Now the evil is targeting them both. Ariah struggles with forgiving Killian for breaking her heart and trying to keep him safe while not revealing the truth of herself and the island.

I love a second chance romance where the MMC is all in right from the beginning and I love a good grovel. Killian gives a good grovel.

Ariah is a beautiful character who believes in non violence and who has provided her people with delicious teas for a decade.

Killian is kind, patient, generous but also protective of both Ariah and Callum who he develops a strong friendship with. I think Killian’s friendship will be the start to Callum finding the courage to leave his abusive father and finally recognizing he is a valuable member of the community and that he is not cursed.

There are a few side stories with Callum, Carlyle, and Mason but not a lot of headway on the actual villain on Skye who is still a mystery though things are truly starting to unravel for Edie.

Oh, my word!
This is book 5 in the continuing series of Skye Druids, and in a much larger collection of books that Ms. Grant has written in her Dark Universe. Centering on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, our two main characters, Ariah who is a Druid who get her magic from forests, and Killian Flanaghan who is human but vacationed every year in summer with his family on Skye. They grew up together, fell in love, and then Killian left to pursue a career in his family’s business as a lawyer.
This book is very complex, with backstories given for both Ariah and Killian. Everything Donna Grant writes is necessary to follow the twists and turns that surround Ariah and Killian, and also to add to the previous books with the supporting characters who may have been main characters in earlier books, and others who will be main characters in future books. Also, the author continues to fill out the “evil” side that is on Skye, Edinburgh, and now London too. I enjoyed this book so much because Donna provides so much information in her writing and doesn’t loose the threads of the story, she is telling with Still of the Night but also the prior books in this series. For the reader, your best experience with this wonderful series is to read the earlier books in this series, the Skye Druids. If you are a reader who wants to know about all the characters that are featured in this book, I would suggest getting Donna Grant’s Reading Order of her Dark Universe and start with Dangerous Highlander where you’ll meet a Warrior.
Still of the Night is well written, with characters that are multi-layered and well developed. The plotting is consistent with the prior books storyline, and the supporting characters are a bonus to this story. I can’t say enough about Donna Grant and her storytelling ability and how she continues to manage to bring new original characters to her books. You can read this as a standalone but know that there are more to most of the secondary characters than what is written in this book. 5 Outstanding Stars for this exceptional book!
I received an ARC of this book through the author and BookFunnel, and this is my honest opinion.

Ariah walked away from Killian nine years ago when he expected her to follow him on the path that his family had laid out for him. Ariah is a druid and has a connection with the forest and she knew that the only place she wanted and needed to be was on the Isle of Skye.
Killian ended up engaged and almost married when he realized that this was not the life he wanted, that he still loved Ariah and wanted a second chance with her, so he left everything behind to go to Skye in the hopes that she would eventually listen to him even though he knows he really hurt her.
Once he is on Skye, there is a shadow that is seems to be out to hurt Killian and no one knows why but since he has no magic, it must have something to do with Ariah. If this isn’t enough to worry about, there is also the evil that is coming from the London Druids that Carlyle and Finn are looking into and they are hoping to find Carlyle’s father. Then there is someone who is calling themselves one of the ancients and talking to Edie having her do evil things, but is it something they are doing that is changing her or has she really become evil? Not to mention what is happening with Callum, Kirsi, Sabryn and now Saber. So many puzzle pieces that are connected but I’m not sure how. It keeps me anxiously waiting to find out what’s going to happen next.
I absolutely love everything about the Skye Druid Series. There are so many stories that are intertwined and the characters really make you feel a connection with them whether it’s anger, fear, humor or love and it has just the right amount of steamy scenes. It’s perfect!

Still of the Night is one of those Donna Grant novels I have been dying for, a long story I could really sink my teeth into instead of some of the shorter ones we’ve had recently, filled with plot development, drama and character growth. Killian is the perfect wounded hero, looking for redemption and willing to work to earn it as he steps through the veil and finds himself in a world of magick, danger, loss, and love. I loved his adventure as he worked alongside his new friends battling enemies and protecting the Skye Druids and the love of his life as he found a way back into her heart once and for all. Ariah is the perfect foil to Killian’s brash and wounded hero, calm and serene on the outer layer, but inside still broken and trying to live with part of her heart missing as she too is faced with the new dangers that are seemingly directed at her. Ariah must face several truths as she journeys out of heartbreak and back into the arms of her soulmate, and she must find her footing as both protector and warrior if she has any hope of surviving the coming war for the lives of all Druids. Passion is not a problem for these two former lovers as their love and chemistry seems to have survived their decade-long separation, apparent the moment they set eyes on one another and almost combust. I truly loved every moment of this second-chance love story and I am dying for more to come in this series as the peril heats up and the secondary plots continue to become more complicated. I have no idea how Donna keeps it all organized (I suspect tiny gnomes whispering each plot to her) but there are so many plots knitted together that sometimes even I can’t keep it all straight. I suspect someday we will see the pattern, but for now I am just enjoying the ride and can’t wait for what comes next!

Still of the Night

The title of movie says it all...Still of the Night. Donna Grant dives deep into her Dark World in Still of the Night. This is book five in her Skye Druids series. This story is filled with juicy storylines, some answered questions but more unanswered ones. We get the love story of Ariah a Druid, whose magic comes from the forest and her leading man Killian who is human. Killian and Ariah fell in love years ago on Skye.

DG will takes us on a wild adventure filled with magic, suspense and evil. We are surrounded by old characters and new characters who I believe will get their own books one day.
This story has multiple layers, with a storyline that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Absolutely loved Still of the Night, can not wait to see what happens next. Since some of my favorite characters from DGs Dark world show up at the end of this story. I highly recommend reading this series from the beginning you might want to read her Dark World stories as well. DG has created a magically, paranormal world and each book is worth reading. Happy Reading

Author Donna Grant never ceases to amaze me with the wide variety of storylines and characters in her book series. The Skye Druids series is no exception with it's fast paced and interweaving plots that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat and constantly guessing how the book will end.

Chapter 1 starts on the Isle of Skye with the main female character, Ariah running in fear from the unknown. Instantly the reader is thrown into wanting to know what is scaring her and why.

Chapter 2 introduces a lost love from Ariah's youth and the main male character, Killian who is seeking forgiveness and a new beginning while trying to keep Ariah and himself alive.

The next chapters unfold with instant drama and turns and twists as once again evil tries to eliminate Skye Druids with a vengeance. What I like about the plot is the authors continued use of characters from previous books to this series and other series that creates an eclectic family and many interacting plots.

This author has a mind that never stops and I admire how she keeps every series fresh and interesting. I did stay up to the wee hours of the night finishing this book in one sitting because it was that good.

What I got from this book is that sometimes the freedom from past mistakes and a future you will love comes with a heavy price that not everyone is willing to chance. Are you?

I give it 5 STARS.

The 5th installment of the Isle of Skye series by the very talented Donna Grant hooks you from the very beginning. As Ariah and Killian’s story unfolds you will be caught up in a whirlwind of gripping suspense, danger from an unknown evil, newfound friendship, camaraderie and of course romance all while keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Evil has once again come to Skye and threatens all that the Isle holds dear. As the druids band together to identify and fight this unknown danger, will Ariah and Killian survive long enough to rekindle their romance and get their second chance at a happily ever after?

Donna’s wonderful writing style and vivid action-packed storytelling bring her characters to life before your eyes. I guarantee you will be page turning into the wee hours of the night.

I recommend reading this series in order as there is a history among the characters and storyline that you do not want to miss in order to get the most enjoyment out of this book.

Wow! Besides the story of Killian and Ariah finding their happily ever after there is so much suspense, mystery, and terror that keeps you turning the pages and not putting the book down I like a story where all the characters in the series are in the same book and this story has that. Loved it and can’t wait for the next story of the sky Druids.

Excellent second chance romance with lots of twisty turns, danger, passion, and stories within stories. I read this book in one sitting because once I started reading it, I could not put it down.
So many interesting things are happening with the druids on Skye (and in London). I can't wait to read what's next.

Many thanks to the author and Bookfunnel for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

Donna Grant has outdone herself with the fifth book in the Skye Druids. Still of the Night grabbed my attention from page one. The story wouldn't let me go. The suspense, the tension, the mystery, and the romance had me entertained for hours and counting down to book number six.

Life on the Isle of Skye is getting more dangerous. Suspense riddles the pages. The evil on Skye is getting boulder. Goosebumps and fear had me rivited to pages. I didn't know what would happen next. I feared who might fall victim and what would happen to them.

I was all a twitter with the second chance romance. Killian's dedication to fixing what he screwed up nine years ago made for deeply touching moments. I read the story looking forward to all of the beautiful things that he said. If I was Ariah; I would be a puddle at his feet.

There love will be put to the test. Evil is bent on destruction, without a care of who is hurt or what is damaged. It will take druids and humans standing together to have a chance.

The story is chockfull of glimpses into the life on Skye, the struggles they are experiencing and what the future holds. I can only hope that the druids are strong enough to conquer the evil. The epilogue won't let me rest. I need to know what is coming. I need to know who has turned traitor. I am dying to know who will be the next target and praying they have the strength needed and realize the importance standing together.

Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting story full of mystery and romance by the phenomenally awesome author, Donna Grant.

Ariah has been called a child of the forest for as long as she can remember. The woods is where she feels calm and the magic. She owns a little shop on the Isle of Skye where it draws people to its magical shores. This is where she met Killian, a guy just visiting. Killian and Ariah fall in love but when Killian’s family pressures him to come back he does. Years later Killian has returned to win back the love of his life. There is something evil on the isle and Killian feels as if someone or something is watching him. Ariah doesn’t want Killian around but when he is gravely injured, the walls around her heart crumble and she realizes she doesn’t want to live without him. But the evil presence might just take out one of them before they can live happily ever after.

I loved this story but there is a slight cliffhanger, well I don’t know if you’d call it a cliffhanger but left some things unanswered. Action. Sex. Magic. Two people getting a second chance at love. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

4.25stars-STILL OF THE NIGHT is the fifth instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult SKYE DRUIDS paranormal, fantasy romance series -a spin off from the author’s REAPER series which in turn is a spin off from the author’s many interconnected series and stories. This is Druid Ariah, and attorney Killian Flanaghan’s story line. STILL OF THE NIGHT should not be read as a stand alone- I recommend reading the series in order, as well as DARK ALPHA’S COMMAND (Reaper 15) for back story and cohesion as many of the events of the current time line are as of a direct result of the events in Dark Alpha’s Command. Several characters from the other series including Reaper Balladyn and Druid Rhona (Dark Alpha’s Command)appear as secondary characters.

SOME BACKGROUND: Months earlier, betrayal and vengeance forced a take-over of power on the Isle of Skye but someone or something is killing the Druids, not only on the Isle of Skye, but around the world including Edinburgh Scotland. With the focus on the death of the Druids on the Isle of Skye, Balladyn and Rhona (Dark Alpha’s Command/Reaper 15) begin an investigation that reveals a danger targeting the Druids and the MacLean family, in particular.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Ariah and Killian STILL OF THE NIGHT follows several paths including the second chance relationship between our story line couple. Approximately ten years earlier, Ariah and Killian were sweethearts but Killian’s family had plans for his future, and Ariah refused to leave the Isle of Skye. Fast forward to present day, Killian returns to Skye in search of the woman he has always loved but someone is targeting our story line hero, and Ariah must come to terms what is happening and why. A bombing, a dark and evil entity, a car accident, and an abduction find Killian struggling to survive but Killian is human, and begins to question the happenings and the people on the Isle of Skye.

The world building is complex and intricate focusing on the shadow, an evil entity that is taking aim at the Druids of Skye. There is more than one person on the hunt for power, and some believe the ancients are directing the fight for control.

The relationship between Ariah and Killian is once of second chances; a rekindling romance in the face of Killian’s need to reconnect but Ariah is no longer the woman Killian once knew, and in this, Killian is about to come face to face with magic, mayhem, murder and mists. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Druids, Reapers, Esther The TruthSeeker and Henry the JusticeBringer, Elodie and Scott, Edie and Trevor; Rhona and Balladyn; Mason, Krisi, and Callum. The requisite evil has many faces.

STILL OF THE NIGHT is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and madness, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is detailed, intriguing and multi-layered; the romance is provocative; the characters are powerful, determined and dynamic.

Ariah is a Druid from the Isle of Skye. She owns and operates a tea shop in her community. Strange things have been dodging Ariah’s every move, even keeping her from sleep. Then the man who broke her heart nine years ago appears suddenly at her shop. Whatever targeted Ariah moved onto Killian. Can Ariah forgive Killian? And what part does she play in the upcoming battle on Skye?

Killian Flanagan is a lawyer from a wealthy and powerful family in Ireland. He returns to Skye for Ariah. Killian regrets breaking things off with her. When Ariah is injured, he offers to help at her shop. Strange incidents start to occur that places Killian’s life in jeopardy. He learns a new facet about Ariah. Can he make amends with her? Or will Killian be another casualty in the trouble brewing on Skye?

Ariah and Killian did not really grab me. Perhaps it was the whole second-chance angle. That trope always dampens my enthusiasm with a story and its characters.

I understand Ariah’s reluctance in telling Killian about being a Druid. It would open her up to ridicule. Plus, she did not want to involve Killian, a normal, in Skye’s magical trouble. I like how Killian had a rough time accepting Ariah’s world. He refuted it at first. Then slowly, once faced with proof, he started to open his mind to it. Killian also accepted that he was practically useless in the upcoming fight.

STILL OF THE NIGHT is the fifth book in Donna Grant’s paranormal romance series, SKYE DRUIDS. This series connects with the author’s other books (DARK KINGS; DRAGON KINGS; DARK WARRIORS; DARK SWORD; REAPERS) Characters from the other series do appear in this one, such as Henry, Esther, Melisse and Nikolai.

I recommend new readers to start with either the DARK KINGS or DARK WARRIORS. This allows them to assimilate the author’s world-building, the enemies that were faced and overcome, and the world’s current situation. It is not exactly necessary. Donna Grant highlights the important parts from the past books, sometimes to the point of repetition. I did skip over the sex scenes. I just felt they were not necessary to the story’s momentum.

⭐ - 4/5 - ⭐ (Holy world building Batman!)

The Isle of Skye is full of magic...and Druids. Ariah is a 'forest child', a child of Skye, and a druid. She lives a simple life with her cat while also running her famous tea shop. When a darkness creeps over the Isle, Ariah must gather with the other Skye druids to figure out what is happening to their home. This is made all the more complicated when her first, and only, love, Killian turns up begging for forgiveness. Can she help stop the evil lurking in the shadows while also protecting her heart?

I made a huge mistake. I fell in love with this book and now I'm obsessed! Another mistake I made was reading this book before any of the others in the series. For some reason I thought that it was a standalone...boy oh boy was I wrong. Let this be a lesson, DEFINITELY not a standalone.

From the first paragraph I was hooked. The world, the characters, the cozy vibes emanating from the pages...I couldn't get enough.

Even though I read this book first and honestly was minorly confused for a good chunk of the book, it didn't stop me from speeding through it.

Ariah is a strong, independent woman who is more powerful than she knows. The author really leaned into the classic flower child appearance and I wasn't made about it. Her kitty, Moon was an excellent addition to her character as well.

Killian is the classic handsome Irishman with a charming personality and a godlike appearance. He's really sweet and supportive of Ariah throughout the whole book, no matter what was thrown at him. He's the ultimate golden retriever boyfriend.

The world that Grant has created is mind blowing. Her attention to detail and pacing made for a fierce combo. Like I said, I was a little lost at times because I foolishly read this before the previous books in the series, but you bet I'm gonna start at the beginning now.

I'm SO excited to see what comes of Skye and it's family of Druids.

Thank you #netgalley and #DLGrantLLC for the ARC of this book!

If I had to sum up Still of the Night in one word, it would be different. And in Donna Grant’s ever-expanding Dark World, different is delicious.

First, let’s talk about the unusual pairing at the heart of this tale. Ariah, our Druid heroine, is every bit the magical force you’d expect. But Killian? Oh, Killian. Handsome as the devil himself, yet completely, utterly human. That’s right—we’re treading into uncharted territory, and I love it. Their love story? Sweet. Their challenges? Immense. Their chemistry? Let’s just say it’s the kind that keeps you turning pages long past your bedtime.

As always, the battle against evil rages on, and our band of Druids and their allies find themselves fighting yet another force trying to wipe them out. And let’s be clear—the stakes aren’t just high; they’re downright brutal. No one is walking away unscathed, and the consequences will leave you reeling.

The plot? Oh, it’s layered. We’re talking onion-level complexity here, with multiple storylines weaving together into what I suspect is one grand, interconnected game plan. And with each chapter, the threads multiply, twisting and turning in ways that will leave you questioning everything. If you’ve been knee-deep in Grant’s universe for a while, you might start spotting connections not just to her other series, but even to works by other authors in the genre. And then there’s THE book—not some grand metaphor for tying the series together, but the actual, legendary magic book that so many in this world are desperate to possess. Grant keeps hinting at its importance, and I can’t help but feel that everything is slowly converging around it. Whether it holds the answers or just more chaos remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—I’m obsessed.

Let’s be honest—Donna Grant is the queen of keeping readers up way past their bedtime. Her books are the kind that make you whisper, “Just one more page,” until you realize it’s 3 AM and your eyes are falling out of their sockets. And yet, you still don’t want to stop.

Still of the Night is a fresh, thrilling, and unputdownable addition to the Skye Druids series. Whether you’re here for the magic, the romance, or the sheer adrenaline rush, Grant delivers in spades.

Sleep? Overrated. Reading this book? Absolutely necessary.

Ariah and Killian met when Killian vacationed on Skye. It was basically love at first sight for them and soon they spent every moment together. When Killian returned to Ireland they kept in touch and Ariah even visited him there. Killian then asked Ariah if she would move and be with him in Ireland but she said no, she couldn't leave Skye. Needless to say, they didn't separate on good terms.

Killian's family had expectations for him, to become a lawyer and work for the family's law firm. He did this but was not a happy man. Ariah never told him why she couldn't leave Skye, her secret.

Both went on with life. Killian went as far as to become engaged to a woman his father felt would be good for his image and the law firm but Killian just couldn't marry her and broke off the engagement.
He finally realized he never got over Ariah and never would so he went back to Skye.

Ariah was devastated when she and Killian split, there was no real happiness in her life afterward. So when Killian arrives back in Skye, she was shocked and very angry! She wouldn't speak with him at first but strange and dangerous things are starting to happen. With help, they may have to work together.

Will they discover the latest danger to Skye and the Druids? Will they ever forgive the past and plan a future?

I absolutely loved this couple, it was evident from the start that they should have been together from the start. Killian needed to stand up to his father and live the life he wanted and Ariah needed to explain Skye to him and her role there.

The Druids of Skye all had different gifts and the way they came together was wonderful. Each knew they faced danger but also knew what had to be done, for the Druids and Skye.

Killian got quite the education when they started explaining Druids to him. He did pretty well with the information overload though and because of the danger they faced, he accepted what he was told easily. He was an integral part of it all.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Get ready for a whirlwind of magic, romance, and second chances! "Still of the Night" whisks you away to the mystical Isle of Skye, where Ariah, a tea-sipping, forest-loving Druid, finds herself in the crosshairs of some serious supernatural drama. When a sinister evil starts creeping into her dreams, Ariah’s peaceful days of blending teas and chatting with trees are over.

But wait – enter Killian, her long-lost Irish love, who made the genius move of choosing his big-city law career over Ariah nine years ago (way to go, Killian!). Now he’s back, with his tail between his legs, ready to beg for forgiveness and win her back. But there’s a catch – because obviously, there’s always a catch. Not only is Ariah wrestling with whether she can forgive him for breaking her heart, but now they both have a target on their backs, thanks to the malevolent force lurking on the island.

Cue Callum, the island’s misunderstood outcast. Killian strikes up an unlikely bromance with him, helping Callum see his worth and maybe (just maybe) take a stand against his abusive father. The stakes? Oh, just a few – like, say, the fate of the island, the safety of everyone they love, and figuring out who’s been double-crossing the Druids all along.

Donna Grant delivers ALL the feels in this fast-paced, magic-fueled ride through Skye. There’s groveling (yes, Killian is really going for gold in the groveling Olympics), heart-pounding danger, and a sprinkle of druidic mystery. The romance? Let’s just say if I were Ariah, I’d be swooning right into Killian’s arms by chapter three. The magic? It’s everywhere, with the Druids going full throttle against evil forces that just keep leveling up.

And don’t even get me started on the epilogue – it’s going to keep you on the edge of your seat, frantically flipping pages and biting your nails until the next book. This one is brimming with suspense, goosebump-inducing tension, and a magical mystery that’s only getting deeper. Seriously, if you haven’t started the Skye Druids series yet, what are you waiting for?

Received this ARC for my honest review.

Still of the Night is the 5th book in the Skye Druids series. While you can read this as a stand-alone book you’ll be missing some key background as it builds off of the other books in the series. The book introduces us to Ariah “forest child” and Killian the human that she fell in love with years ago when he was visiting Skye during a university break. The relationship ended when Ariah refused to leave Skye to follow Killian to Dublin to live the life that his family had mapped out for him. Years later Killian realized that not staying with Ariah was the worst mistake of his life and he ended his engagement to a woman his family picked, quit his job at the family firm, and came back to Skye to try and win Ariah back.

Killian arrives as the evil that’s been attacking the Skye Druids decides that Ariah is its next target. Despite Ariah wanting nothing to do with Killian he refuses to give up and settles in to try to win her back after she’s injured.

Killian meets Callum and as two “outsiders” they bond and form a friendship that leads to Callum realizing that Killian has become a target of the monster from the grey. Callum and the Skye druids realize that the monster from the grey has a new ally on Skye helping the monster from the grey attack the druids. The evil has decided that Killian is a target because of his connection to Ariah; setting off a chain of events that reignites Arian’s feelings for Killian and brings him into the Skye Druids inner circle.

Still of the Night connects several storylines from the series and expands the Skye Druid universe in ways that make me want to read book 6 immediately. Great job Donna Grant!

Love amongst the turmoil

With each book I read in the Skye Druids series the more Donna Grant blows my mind. STILL OF THE NIGHT, the 5th installment, brings even more tension, suspense, and mystery to this already mesmerizing series. Once again, the pace, action, and drama doesn't let up keeping the pages constantly turning. The need to know what was happening next was addictive.

Ariah is known as a child of the forest by the other Druids. The surrounding forest is where she draws her magic from, but something is not right, a dark evil is lurking in the air. Killian Flanagan has returned to Skye to win back the love of his life, Ariah. Years ago, he had chosen his family over her and he was back to rectify that mistake. Unknowingly, Killian has found himself caught up in a world he knew nothing about. Ariah, not wanting her heart broken again, rejects Killian, keeping the walls around her heart intact. Killian is determined to win her back, and when he is seriously injured Ariah's walls crumble, knowing she cannot lose him.

Donna Grant's storytelling is sublime. The worlds she creates are incredible, and I love that she brings in characters from her previous books, maintaining the intricate threads of connection. STILL OF THE NIGHT continues the complex story of the Skye Druids battle against an unknown enemy and the darkness that lurks on the Isle. There were numerous twists and turns which kept me on the edge of my seat, I can't wait to see what Donna delivers next.

An old flames return brings back buried memories

Ariah has been around to support the other Druids of Skye through their troubles, but she never thought to be involved because she is more of a pacifist. But when Killian, the man who ripped her heart out, returns to Skye, she is thrown into the fray. Killian returned to Skye to finally live his life the way he wants by winning Ariah back, not knowing that his world was about to get a whole lot more complicated. Will the love they shared be able to be repaired & possibly survive the danger that has been around every corner of Skye?
In this installment of Donna Grant’s Skye Druid series, part of her larger Dark World, we learn that Corann, the leader of the Skye Druids before Rhona, tried to prepare them for what might come. What the Druids are learning is that they all have a part to play, even when they thought they didn’t, like Ariah. When will we see what part Callum & Kirsi will play? And it is not just the Skye Druids who will be pivotal, the Knights – Sabryn, Carlyle, Finn & Saber, will all be needed to fight this evil that is controlling & manipulating other Druids into doing their bidding.
Yet again, Donna Grant has delivered with a story that drags you in & consumes you! She gave us another piece of the Skye Druids saga, while revealing that there are more pieces to be uncovered. Will we get to find out more about Callum’s curse next? Or will we find out what happened to Carlyle’s father? Will we ever find out the story behind Saber? I will be eagerly anticipating learning whose story is next, while impatiently waiting for all the rest!

Donna Grant continues to keep readers indulged in a magical world, with adventure and intense romance that finds its way into my heart with every single book. Still of the Night there is a wild magical adventure with suspense that keeps us turning the pages in a romance that keeps our hearts pounding.

Ariah can trace her lines as far back as the first Druids that ever called Skye their home. She’s a child of the forest and owns the tea shop. She has always been drawn to the forest, giving her peace amongst the trees, but the evil that’s stalking the island now seems to be after her.

Almost a decade ago Killian visited the island of Skye. He fell in love, but yet she walked away from him. He chose his career at his family’s law firm, expecting her to walk away, and she didn’t. Time had moved on, and he thought he found another love and almost getting married, made him realize the person he was with at that moment was not the person he loved or who he wanted to be with at all. Killian returns to the island of Skye to find the love that he walked away from.

Still of the Night is the fifth book in the series so there are a lot of things going on. We get a second chance at romance, a few side stories, a magical and dangerous adventure, secrets revealed, and trying to overcome an evil that has taken its place on the island. It’s no secret that I think that Donna Grant is a master at world building. She creates complex places that go beyond imagination, but yet we want to keep visiting them. Ariah and Killian get there happily ever after. Their story is another of the stepping stones in this big chaotic danger that’s happening around them.

Still of the Night is a second chance romance story. Let me start by saying that I rated this book 3 stars because I haven't read the previous books in the series, so I felt a bit lost with so many characters in the story, and without the knowledge of their backgrounds which plays a huge part of what is happening in this story. I know that if I understood the complete situation with the druids and those with powers from the beginning, I probably would have enjoyed this story more. Therefore, I recommend reading this series in order for a better understanding. This story centers on Killian and Ariah mostly. Killian met Ariah 9 years ago and they fell in love, but he walked away from her because of the pressure from his narrow-minded father Brian to work at the family law firm. Killian is back hoping Ariah gives him a second chance because now he chooses to live his life the way he wants but things aren't so easy. Ariah's experiencing and doing things she has never before and someone or something is out to get her. There were other characters in this story that I liked, especially Theo and his wife Ferne who were sweet. Parts of the story seemed to drag for me but overall, it was an okay read. This story has regret, disagreements, action, truths, magic, mystery, suspense, destruction, steamy scenes and what I would say light romance. It also ends with a bit of a cliffhanger so be prepared. I would recommend readers giving this series a try simply because it wasn't a bad read, and I think that if I had read the previous books, I might have enjoyed it more.
