Okay, annoyed within the first five pages. Good job, book! The authors intro starts with some random comments like: 'Do you hiccup regularly?' and 'Do you have lots of wrinkles?' 'You're probably not eating enough greens!' Oh please! Maybe I'm just influenced by Dr Greger too much, but what's the science? Are these things even related to green consumption?
As you can imagine I had a hard time giving the rest of the book a chance. What follows is a nice A-Z of healthy foods with researched information about them. Nothing new to me, as I'm quite the health-nut, but interesting. I was getting a little more positive!
Then, the recipes. All for health boosting smoothies. With weird names like No More Gray Hair and A Natural ADHD Solution, I'm triggered again. There I go, annoyed all over! Most recipes look great, but there's only ingredient lists. The author could have described them a bit more besides just the title. Some of these are quite bold claims.
And then, the succes stories. So cringe. What quack/snake oil business. Maybe I'll return to this and be nicer later, but this annoyed me a lot. Nah, it's going to the thrift shop.
I like that the recipes are quick and easy. Nobody could argue with the benefit of adding more leafy greens to your diet and the correlation to improving certain conditions. I usually juice in the mornings but will try these recipes for a week and see how I feel. I love salad so maybe my story won't be as dramatic as some the the testimonials in the back section.
However, what juicing had to do with her son's tonsillectomy is unclear nor her father succumbing to his heart condition despite his understanding of health benefits available in nature. Furthermore, after looking her up, she has since switched her stance to say that raw food is not a sustainable way to live and she and her family gave it up. Just a reminder that we all still have genetics and challenges that there is not always a magic bullet for. So like every new health fad, take what works for you and leave the hype.
Well researched and written this book gives you information that will help you eat for life. The power of greens is absolutely amazing and worthy of including in your daily diet. Recommend for all those searching for a cure to what ails you.
Excellent book and well-written. I was very impressed with the content and the various testimonials. Thank you so much for your knowledge and shared experiences with the raw food diet and green smoothies!
