Surely, if I can defeat the Irish King of the Dead, the Jewish Lord of Demons, and the most powerful Raven to ever live, I can learn to drive a car. Probably.

this was such a fun adventurous addition to the series. anna dives even more into her jewish heritage, grappling with the confusion and insecurity in her identity as someone who spent most of her life disconnected from it. colin continues to figure out who he is and where the lines of morality are in right vs. wrong.

on top of meeting more of anna's family, there is of course more fun animal companions, magical cups of tea, delicious food descriptions, and an exciting mystery.

i enjoyed exploring beyond ravenfall, but i'm excited to get back to it with the final book next year!

Kelpies are seahorses, but not like seahorses. More like one part horse, one part sea. Or lake. Or puddle. Puddle horses sound cute.

“You can’t always know that the choice you’re making is the right one. All you can do is make the best decision with the information you have.”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ A very solid and enjoyable continuation of the series, as we return not to Ravenfall, but to Witchwood, where fourteen-year-old Anna's aunt and cousin live and where fifteen-year-old Colin may hope to use some of his expertise and skill as a Raven to help track down the missing witches that have mysteriously disappeared. 🧙🏻‍♀️ It's another bundle of friendship and adventure and family for Anna, while also trying to still remember and respect her Jewish heritage as she tries to become closer to her rather dismissive cousin, Leah, only to realize that she may share more in common with her than just blood. ✨

I’ve learned a lot more, though mostly about the mythology side, and yet I still feel like an imposter.

Is there some magical amount of knowledge I have to reach before I’ll finally feel Jewish enough?

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ While the story does shine always with the individual growths of Colin and Anna, what really stands out for me is how Judaism and anti-Semitism is viewed in the same context as that of witches persecutions - or simply those with magic are scorned or reviled - a mirror of religious intolerance. It was an interesting contrast that was portrayed in how 'Witchwood was built: to keep magical people safe from the real world', whereas Anna has always felt that they should work together 'to keep the real world safe from magic.' 😟 It is in that context that we see her also struggling to understand and respond to her newfound appreciation of her own Jewish heritage and the importance of being Jewish, while striving to awaken her own latent powers. I liked how she steadily improved her knowledge of it and started to treat it with respect and a genuine care of regard; Of what it means and the value of it is more than just saying that you are. 👍🏻

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Her embarrassment of not being aware of most Jewish customs felt relatable; how even I still stumble and fumble over things expected of me for being a Muslim. I liked her defiance, as well as her resolute determination to persevere and strive to be better, especially since she was willing to do more. 'All I want is to know more about my culture, my family. I just want to be enough for them.' 🥺 And despite their prolonged separation, her relationship with her cousin was the catalyst of two beings - one more aware of Jewish customs and culture, and the other more attuned to her witch powers. 'Leah is my family, too, and it’s time I acted like it.' By combining their forces and power and knowledge, they were able to thwart the enemy and succeed not only in battle - but also to deepen their own bond, as well. 🫂

All of Witchwood is just waiting for me to fail—I have to show them I’m not like the Ravens they’re scared of.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ And I liked how it was portrayed. It was finely balanced against Colin's own eagerness, as well as hopeful desire to be acknowledged as a Raven - one not feared or sneered at, but one that helps and protects people is his driving force. His journey is not yet complete in embracing his talents as well as his role as someone who protects and keeps the balance between the two worlds and 'helping to protect magical and non magical folk alike from danger.' 😥 With years of hostility and distrust, along with a wave of bad blood that has riddled Witchwood, it was reassuring and cathartic to see Colin find his will and courage to take a stand and prove.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ It is a rude awakening for him to accept that he still has a far way to go to fully awaken his abilities, but the reassurance, as well as the friendship that Anna, and now Leah offers him, as well as the faith his older brother, Liam has in him - gives him the courage and determination that he does possess what it takes 'to stop supernatural creatures before they can hurt anyone., as well as his hone his own skills into a force to be reckoned with - on his own. 🙏🏻

How is anyone ever supposed to know what to say about this kind of thing?

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ It was nice to see old and new faces again. I love Colin and Max's bond, and Aunt Miriam was a welcome addition, along with the history she shared about their family makes for a much more interesting and action-packed future for all. 😥 I liked the slight hints of something more than friendship - very sweet dynamic building between them, along with, as always, Anna and Colin's friendship and trust with each other, a welcome sight. They've been through so much together, they're practically family and it showed here how deeply they were - not only attuned to the other, but how much they just knew the other - best. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this middle grade series is far from over. With more mysteries and histories to unpack and uncover - family ties and family lies - that will pave the way for Colin and Anna to take the necessary steps forward in not only strengthening their skills, but continuing to challenge themselves for greater expectations, as well as hopeful optimism that their battle may be far from over, but together, they will be able to fight whatever comes their way. 💫

Solid third entry in the Ravenfall series! My personal least favorite due to various quibbles and things here and there, but it's generally speaking a good expansion of the world presented in the previous two books. All the characters, including houses and animals, are more over the top, their powers are bigger and more expansive, and the stakes are getting higher.

I could have used more time with some characters in the titular Witchwood town as well as the villains, and this isn't the most fleshed out mystery I've seen in a middle grade book, but the fantastical elements are great and some new characters are introduced that could play an important and interesting part in the upcoming fourth book of the series.

Anna is feeling overwhelmed and sad. Ravenfall just won't be the same once her sisters leave for college.
So, when Colin and Liam ask her to help them on a Raven mission, she can't pack fast enough. Since they'll be close, she asks them to stop off at Witchwood to visit her aunt.
Before they reach her aunt's, they are attacked. Anna seems to have been the target.
When they tell her aunt, they find out that witches have been disappearing in Witchwood. And so begins their next adventure.

I love this series! It is one of my favorite middle grade series of all time. I love the characters, especially the sentient houses. So much fun. Sad that I have to wait a year until the next one.

i've been following this series since release and i had assumed that a book centered on halloween would be my favorite. unfortunately, this one fell a little flat for me. perhaps it's that much of this book was centered away from our favorite characters and magical house, frazzled by the previous book's events and overmaking food and haranguing the guests. perhaps i expected more autumnal atmosphere - i don't know.

anna and colin have left ravenfall and after getting attacked, end up in the magical town of witchwood where she meets her aunt and cousin, who is standoffish for no real reason. i found this a pretty frustrating part of the book because anna has no respect for boundaries and constantly foisted herself in her cousin's face while simultaneously complaining about how she wasn't liked. i get it, it's a children's book, but i thought the characterization was so strange here. there was also a little bit of a girl vs. girl situation as anna's cousin has a thing for colin and it was just... i don't know.

witches start to go missing in witchwood. i don't want to give the plot away, but it felt very... overdone plot of a cw episode. i feel like a lot of what i loved about this book - the wide-eyed wonder, the atmosphere, the culture and how it wrapped up in identity, the cozy little magical elements - was swept aside for dramatic teenaged antics which frankly isn't really what i've been looking for from this world. so ultimately: fine, but i miss the pure joy i got from reading the first book.

1. I am so glad that we are getting another book; I know that I was not ready or this series to be finished [especially when this book was finished], so the knowledge that another one is coming makes me smile whenever I think of it.

2. It was LOVELY to be back in Ravenwood, even with the House still trying to reset itself [the cookie and challah incident was hilarious, as was Nora's reaction to it], and the twins leaving for college, and Gran and Co being in Ireland. I did miss those players quite a bit, but the story was still very good with new additions [see below].

3. I enjoyed the introduction of Witchwood [a fully magical town] and how different it is from Ravenwood. I really liked the introduction of Anna's aunt Miriam and cousin Leah as the really add depth and understanding to Anna's family story. I liked how realistic Anna and Leah's initial relationship was [they clash and bad] and then how they have to figure their ISH out to get stuff done and make positive things happen.

4. Forget all you know about Mean Girls and gird yourself for the the next generation. IYKYK. [YIKES].

5. I knew where the "mystery" part of this book was going [well, not where it was going, because that was OH HOLY COW, but I knew who was orginating it all], but thankfully, it never took away from the overall story and I totally enjoyed seeing it all play out.

6. Ahhhhh, young love. ;-)

7. A lovely conclusion that leaves it open for the next book, but doesn't leave you hanging - I LOVE when this happens in series books.

8. The synopsis of the previous book that starts each new book. THIS. IS. GLORIOUS. and should be in every books series; can we make that happen?? ;-)

9. Absolutely fantastic narration. Michael Crouch and Keylor Leigh really bring Colin and Anna to life and they make it so easy to settle into the story. I am so glad they are still on board.

I love this series and I am so glad that I took a chance on it - I have not been disappointed. Highly recommend this one!!

3.5/5

It's autumn and a new Ravenfall novel is out, so of course I picked it up.
I must admit though that I have a complicated relationship with this series. There are some elements that I really like about it and others that I like a lot less. So my opinion about each book tends to lands somewhere around the middle but I do want to keep reading the series for the fun elements that I enjoy.

I still think the main characters learn new skills a bit too fast and they continue to feel kind of OP/very protected. But since it is a middle grade series and at this point, I'm kind of accustomed to the nuances of the series, then I'm just rolling with it and went in with expectations of a quick, quirky magical book with autumn vibes. And for the actual target audience, I'm sure my nitpicks might not even be an issue anyway.

Having said all that, I think Witchwood is my favourite so far. I liked that it expanded the magical world into a new area outside of Wick, taking us to a full-blown magical town with new characters and concepts introduced. It was nice to see even more of Anna's family in the form of her aunt Miriam and cousin Leah, and to learn more about the family history.

This book also continues the theme from the previous book of Anna discovering more about her Jewish heritage and what it means for her magical capabilities. The central plot was fairly predictable, but it was made more interesting (for me, at least) with the details surrounding it: the what, the why, and the how, which were rooted in the aforementioned Jewish magic.

The book met my expectations for some seasonal middle grade magic and I got that. And yes, I'll be picking up the next one next year.

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

This has been one of my favorite middle grade series of all time. It's complicated without being over-the-heads of its target audience, has two protagonists that serve as a great example for younger readers, and is very entertaining. I also really like that Anna and Colin are just friends. The themes of growing up and finding your identity continue here with Anna seeking more information about her Jewish heritage while being made to feel like an imposter by her cousin and Colin trying to determine how to be the type of Raven who helps rather than harms. I love how Anna and Colin continue to develop as characters over the course of the novel and are starting to come into themselves. The introduction of Leah adds a new dimension to their friendship that I am looking forward to seeing unfold over future books. I'm especially interested in following Colin and Leah's friendship now that they both have an ancestor they are not especially excited to be associated with. I was so glad that Anna had the difficult conversation with Leah rather than letting things continue to fester - once they better understood one another they could let their animosity go and discover they had a lot in common. And Anna learning more about her powers was really interesting. The mystery here was interesting and the reason behind it a surprise. I never fully trusted that coven - their interest in Anna and willingness to help just came too easily. Once again it took both Anna and Colin to defeat the villains - I like this because it keeps the balance of power between them even. I'm always a little sad at the end of these books because it means it will be a while before I get to spend time with these characters again. I am definitely looking forward to the next book, something to look forward to next fall!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC of this book! My opinion remains my own!

Anna and Colin, best friends who each have their own role to play in the world of magic, embark in a new adventure set almost a full year after the first book and nine months after the events of the second. After spending a summer apart - Anna working in her grandmother’s tea shop and Colin training with his brother Liam - they reunite and undertake a mission dealing with a kelpie near Seattle, Washington. Seattle happens to be very close to the all-magic town of Witchwood where Anna’s paternal Aunt Miriam lives. So when the mission goes sideways and Anna seems to be the target of a plot involving abducted witches from the area, it makes sense to crash in on Aunt Miriam and cousin Leah even though Anna only met the former once seven years ago and the latter never. Anna and Colin must work to solve the mysterious abductions before another witch, or even Anna herself, becomes the next to disappear. All while dealing with the fact that Leah seemingly hates Anna.

Let me begin by saying that I absolutely adore this series. The first book, Ravenfall, was, in my opinion, absolute perfection. It was atmospheric and magical with the perfect blend of endearing, well developed characters and a well-paced murder mystery steeped in magic and mythology.

I mention my deep appreciation of Ravenfall because while I did enjoy this book and will absolutely purchase it and recommend it to any students I can, I have enough qualms about the direction of the series and its deviation from what worked so well in the first book that I do wonder if my rating is fully fair. Am I marking it higher than I should given my qualms out of an enduring attachment to the world and characters?

So much of what I loved about the first book is just… absent here. Max is still my entire life and he remains as loveable and amazing as ever. But the relationship between Anna and Colin has become flat. While there are declarations of best friendship, it just doesn’t seem to ring as true as it once has. Colin inexplicably sides with Anna’s cousin for no reason at all and never even thinks about Anna’s perspective, immediately assuming Anna is the one who is failing to listen or try. It’s even gotten to the point where Colin illogically no longer trusts Anna’s assessment and assurances of his skills because he trusts her so much? Meanwhile, Anna’s interactions with Colin seem to involve little else than superficial teasing and sticking out her tongue at him like a toddler.

Meanwhile, so many of the characters I had hoped would come back and feature more heavily for this third book after only having small roles in the second aren’t there. There’s no more Rose and Kara. No Uncle Roy and Aunt Elaine. No Gran and Nora, or even Henry after his heavy presence in the second book. No Ravenfall, which let’s be real, is one of the best sentient houses ever created. While all these characters are gone, what we get in return are Aunt Miriam and Leah. Both of whom just kind of suck.

Finally, while I appreciate the nods to Jewish mythology throughout the second and third books, it doesn’t feel as well developed and integrated into the plot as the Gaelic mythology did in Ravenfall. It feels more superficial and forced rather than flowing seamlessly into the events and atmosphere. The plot is rather direct and predictable, rather than being layered and steeped in history and folklore.

To reiterate, I did enjoy reading this book. I liked revisiting this world and these characters. The series is still great and enjoyable. I just really hope that some of the magic of Ravenfall can be recaptured in the next installment to bring this series back to the absolute perfection it began with.

Witchwood is another fun installment in the Ravenfall series. With more magic, more mythology, and more cozy aesthetics, this book only cements the fact that this is the perfect series to read in the fall.

I love that this book continues to expand upon the magic and mythology already introduced. It’s so cool to see the characters grow in their magic as well as their confidence in who they are, but the story also shows that they have a lot more to learn, too. I appreciate that this book explores more of Anna’s Jewish heritage and opens up conversations about antisemitism. I’m continually grateful that Kalyn Josephson includes real life problems alongside the magical aspects. The themes about family and friendship are so powerful!

The addition of Aunt Miriam and Leah was lovely, and I’m looking forward to how they play a part in future books. I also adore that Aunt Miriam has a Baba Yaga-esque house on chicken legs. It almost makes up for this story not being set at Ravenfall.

It’s obvious that this book is starting to build toward a bigger conflict than book one and two had and I’m glad that there’s going to be a fourth book! I love this world, these characters, the compilation of magic and mythology from Celtic and Jewish lore. It’s such a fun middle grade series and deserves all the love.

Kalyn Josephson's Witchwood is a delightful continuation of the magical adventures at Ravenfall, blending mystery, magic, and emotional depth. The story follows Anna and Colin as they embark on another mission that leads them to Witchwood, a town where magic is openly embraced. The novel's autumnal setting adds a cozy yet eerie atmosphere, enhancing the tension as witches start disappearing.

Josephson’s ability to weave Jewish magic into Anna’s character development is a highlight, especially as Anna explores her family’s magical heritage. The conflict with her cousin adds a layer of family drama, making the relationships feel authentic. Anna’s growth as she navigates her complicated identity as a witch and her determination to protect her loved ones makes her a relatable and strong protagonist.

The pacing is well-balanced, with enough suspense and intrigue to keep readers hooked. The mystery surrounding the missing witches is engaging, though it sometimes feels predictable. Despite that, the charming friendship between Anna and Colin and the richness of Witchwood’s magical world make this a rewarding read.

Overall, Witchwood earns its 4 stars for its well-crafted characters, immersive world, and heartwarming themes of friendship and family, even if the plot’s twists don’t always surprise. It's perfect for readers who love magical adventures with a dash of real-world culture.

Content warning: kidnapping, talks of antisemitism, loss of parent/family member

I love that there was a new Ravenfall book to curl up with as the weather gets colder and the leaves turn colors. This series is meant to be read in the fall under a blanket with a warm drink in hand. Kudos once again to Josephson and the publisher for having a recap of the series so far at the start of the book. Louder for those in the back: ALL BOOK SERIES SHOULD HAVE THIS!

While I'm a little sad that the third book in the series takes place mostly outside of the Ravenfall Inn (because I adore the house and its magic), it was great to have Anna and Colin out on the road solving a magical mystery on their own. I spent most of the novel annoyed by Leah, but she redeems herself.

Josephson does a great job of giving middle grade readers a fun, heartwarming magical series while also tackling some serious topics like cultural heritage, self doubt, and how the concept of good/evil or right/wrong isn't exactly a clear either/or with a solid line drawn between the two.

I'm looking forward to Autumn 2025 and the next installment in this series to see what these kids get up to next! Also, I'd LOVE to live in a house that would make me pumpkin hot cocoa when I needed it.

3 1/s stars. Another enjoyable installment of the magical teen series. Colin and Anna visit Ravenfall, a community where no one has to hide their magic. Colin is one his first "solo" Raven trip as he tries to figure out what has happened to several witches that have just disappeared. Anna is visiting her aunt and cousin she knows little about and in the meantime learns a bit more about her Jewish heritage that she grew up being disconnected from.

There is magic and adventure but so much more. Colin struggles with trying to make the right moral decisions when fighting magical creatures: is it ok just to destroy them or should he try to take another path? What about when fighting supernatural sentient beings who threaten the magic secret and perhaps have hurt humans in self-defense? He also struggles with his confidence. Is he really ready to take on missions by himself? Anna struggles with her sisters going off to college and trying to get along with her cousin who seems to resent her. Is it her fault that her father never taught her things about the Jewish faith? And what does it mean to be Jewish? And to face the prejudice that goes along with that?

Colin and Anna are wrestling with growing up, family and friendships. Throw in big danger of the magical type and you have an exciting book that has substance. But there is also plenty of wonder too.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

I think this is my favorite of the three books in the series (so far I hope). I really liked Ravenfall, I liked Hollowthorn a. little less and I absolutely loved Witchwood. Now to tell you why...
First, new characters that will stay with the story (now I know there will be a fourth). I really like Leah and Aunt Miriam and I love the inclusion of the Jewish aspect of family life and magic. And they are part of the family which is. what I loved so much about the series - I just love all the characters and their interactions with each other and the relationships they form.
Second, a new location that can be revisited. Witchwood is a town much the opposite of Wick. While is Wick magic is hidden to protect the non-magical people, in Witchwood everything/everyone is magical and the town protects they from non-magical people. The story uses this idea to drive the plot.
Third, the relationship between Anna and Colin is less awkward, and although Colin is less self-critical and doubting he seems to be evolving. The addition of Anna's cousin Leah eventually makes Anna's personality a little less black and white and softens the character just enough that I didn't want to slap her silly all the time.
This really is a good series and I hope it continues. There is a lot of room for additional stories.

REVIEW
I've really enjoyed the Ravenfall novels; they're quick, witchy reads perfect for the season! Witchwood brings Anna and Colin to the titular town, where a bunch of locals have gone missing. Colin is determined to prove himself on his first solo mission as a Raven, but has his doubts that he'll be good enough without his big brother. Anna is struggling with her sisters moving out and being left behind at the inn. At Witchwood, she's reconnecting with her aunt and is excited to see this side of her family, as she just reconnected with her father. Anna's a witch just like them, but unfortunately, her cousin hates her for no reason.

I liked how the mystery was interwoven with the characters' personal journeys. Anna doesn't feel Jewish enough now that she's staying with her father's family, and her cousin doesn't let her forget it. Her cousin was so, though it clearly comes from a place of jealousy and unresolved issues. Anna's annoyed that Colin will make excuses for her, but I like that the story mentions she's not romantically interested in him and might be aromantic! In the end, this was a fun, witchy tale, and I can't wait to read the final book soon!

Another amazing adventure in this series! I loved this book so much. I felt like as if I was there with the characters seeing everything they were seeing. This book had many lessons as well, such as believe in yourself, you’re stronger than you think, and asking for help doesn’t mean you’re weak it means you’re powerful and brave.

However, the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I was hoping Colin and Anna would have a crush on each other and show they they have feelings for each other especially after reading the part where Colin & Anna are sitting next to each other on the log near the bonfire in the woods and Liam walks in and winks and Colin and Colin blushes. Instead, the author made Colin fall for Leah. Ugh. I was hoping Leah’s crush would’ve turned out like this: she sees Colin around Anna and she gets very jealous and purposefully sabotages Anna so she can have Colin all to herself but sees that he always finds his way to Anna. I really hope in the next book, Anna meets a guy cute guy and he starts falling for her and Colin gets jealous of that guy and realizes that he himself has feelings for Anna and he tells her that and she realizes the same thing and they start dating. Happy ending. 😁

Kalyn Josephson’s Witchwood is a spellbinding tale brimming with magic, intrigue, and deeply layered characters. With its lush world-building and gripping plot, this book delivers an enchanting escape into a realm where power and secrets intertwine.

The story follows a resilient protagonist navigating a world teeming with danger and deceit, and Josephson does a fantastic job of bringing her struggles and triumphs to life. The magic system is fascinating and intricately woven into the fabric of the world, adding richness to the narrative. The pacing keeps readers hooked, balancing moments of action with quieter, emotionally charged scenes.

What sets Witchwood apart is its atmosphere—a darkly magical setting that feels both haunting and beautiful. Josephson’s vivid descriptions immerse readers in a world that’s as treacherous as it is enchanting. The themes of trust, loyalty, and self-discovery resonate throughout, making the story both engaging and thought-provoking.

While the plot is captivating, there are moments where the pacing feels slightly uneven, and certain character dynamics could have been explored more deeply. However, these minor issues don’t overshadow the book’s strengths.

Overall, Witchwood is a mesmerizing read that will appeal to fans of dark fantasy and strong heroines. With its compelling narrative and atmospheric charm, it’s a story that lingers long after the final page. Highly recommended!

This is one of my favorite middle-grade series!
I love the world, and the characters, and the story always keeps me entertained and on the edge of my seat.

In Witchwood, Anna and her best friend Colin are on their own investigating some disappearance in the Witchwood. They are staying with Anna's aunt and cousin and I loved learning more about Anna's heritage and the different kinds of magic. I love seeing Anna and Colin work together along with growing as individuals and in their abilities. The mystery of the missing witches was a good one, and I really enjoyed seeing the kids investigate and uncover what no one else has been able to figure out.

I love the side kicks, like our favorite jabberwocky turned kitty cat, and the sentient house is my favorite character of them all.

I can't wait to see where this series is going to to next!!!

When I read the first book in this series, I did not know if I would necessarily continue reading the series. Then I ended up getting eARC copies for books 2 and 3. Although, in my opinion, the series lulled in book two, the momentum returned in this entry. In this entry, Anna and Colin venture away from the magical house, Ravenfall, that they call home to visit Anna's paternal aunt and cousin so that she can learn more about her Jewish heritage. Of course, they end up discovering a mystery involving Anna's family and prejudice against Ravens, guardians of the supernatural world of whom Colin is one. I think that Josephson struck a perfect balance between Anna and Colin's perspectives with each fully growing into their unique types of magic. I do not know how many installments Josephson plans but I am invested now.

The Ravenfall series returns with its third book, and I enjoyed it just as much as the previous books!
Great for fans of magical realism and fantasy, adult and children both. This book continues to see Anna and Collin grow into their powers and themselves. Which makes this feel believable even with the magic, as thus is an age where teens are discovering who they are. We are introduced to a new cast of characters, who are also delightful, and another magical house. I just love a good magical dwelling! Also Max, he's such a fun character.
I'm really excited that it appears there will be another book, because I have really enjoyed this series!
I also loved the PNW setting as that's where I'm from.
Thanks to Random House Children's and Netgalley for a copy of this ARC!

I've rated both of the other ones a 5 but this one makes me not want to read the next one really because the relationship feels forced and uncomfortable and I know it's cause they're kids but Colin's relationship with Anna is infinitely easier. I don't see why Leah cannot be a new friend and maybe in the new one making it him and Anna start to see each other in a new way because it would be a lot more comfortable to make a friendship blossom into a relationship. I just did not like reading Colin and Leah. the rest of the book was great and I do wish I could give it 5 stars but it made me uncomfortable.

Witchwood by Kalyn Josephson
Received as an ARC from Kalyn herself.
Anna and Colin embark on another adventure this time to Witchwood to investigate disappearances of witches. After they first must go to protect an injured creature. Then Anna is attacked. Anna meets her Aunt Miriam and cousin Leah who help her expand her skills in witchcraft. The story evolves into a revenge story of distant unknown family fighting back by abducting powerful witches to exact revenge on the Ravens and regular humans. This third book keeps Anna and Colin’s growth into powerful entities within their skill set.

This was a quick, fun read! I really appreciated the “Last time in Hollowthorn” recap at the beginning to refresh my memory before diving into this book.

Anna and Collin are tackling their insecurities in really relatable ways, and even though they have magic at the foundation of their problems, they’re still really relevant issues.

This was a great continuation and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Thank you to Delacorte and NetGalley for the ARC! Now to just wait for the release date and my pre-order!

I received an e-copy of this book for free from NetGalley, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I loved this new installment of the Ravenfall series. Colin and Anna are such fun characters to get to know, and I have enjoyed seeing them grow a little more. I'm disappointed that I have to wait until next year to get the next book in the series! I love the Jewish mythology, and I love that antisemitism is addressed by the kids, because it makes it easier for kids to learn about (antisemitism is heavy, ya'll. And heartbreaking).

The magical adventures continue for Anna and Colin, this time with a coven of witches. There is some peril and newly discovered powers for both teenagers, but the majority of the book is about learning about their family and history. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but readers looking for a book full of one adventure after another might be disappointed. The end leaves an opening for another book and now there are more family members to participate together...and a bonded family is always a good thing.
