2 paranormal erotica stories, the "Soul of a Hunter" with Mike and Leandra and the "Heart of a Hunter" with Malachi and Kelsey, are included in this installment by Shiloh Walker.

In terms of publishing, I can say it was a good move switching from Ellora's Cave 'cause the author's work feels much more coherent in terms of typed structure of the scenes, syntax, grammar and spelling (a problem that her previous work suffered from with EC publishing).

In terms of writing... Mike and Leandra.
Leandra is a character we saw first in Jonathan and Lori's story in the camp with the villains. A former member of the Scythe, Leandra had been a powerful witch that after an enlightenment and a bite from a rogue vampire, became Malachi's protege and was brought to Eli's enclave to train as a Hunter (as a vampire now) but kept living there as an outcast.
Mike, a natural born shapeshifter had been watching Leandra ever since she shot him while he was protecting Erika -a 12 year old member of Eli's enclave- from getting kidnapped by Leandra. Years passed, Leandra was pardoned and Mike found himself in love with his former attacker, while Leandra didn't seem to forgive herself for the wrongs she had served and felt that she didn't deserve him. A villain made an appearance and threatened Leandra's wellbeing, and a big fat mess threw the plot in the supernatural depths of dreamland.

Lots of things in this plot just didn't make sense to me. Paranormal romance/erotic romance/erotica are my fav genres, but the supernatural element here was just off. The story had a dynamic in the beginning but as it progressed it got more and more anticlimactic, with the villain of the story taking up too much space but failing miserably to entice something short of boredom out of me.

Malachi and Kelsey
Probably the story where the money was supposed to be. I don't get it why authors insist on manufacturing characters that are millennia old and have them acting around like 16-year old teens. Malachi was supposed to be a two thousand year old vampire that exuded menace and aggressive sex appeal, desperate and sad because in the long years of his life he hadn't found a mate. Then why was he acting either like a spoiled brat or a kid that lost its toy during the entire story? Again, the laws that governed their paranormal world left me yawning and totally indifferent, while the inconsistency in the main characters and the lack of depth of the plot ruined this story for me.

I guess I made a mistake when having depended on reviews, sums and excerpts of the "Hunters", I had gotten excited to find a new paranormal erotica series to entertain myself with and I purchased the first "Hunters" books with Mal's being the last one, all-in-one-order. And being an obsessive-compulsive reader that I am, I read them even to just form an opinion though they felt a waste of my time (and money). I will not err about this again. Malachi's story was my final chance to like this series and it has positively failed to keep me.

I really need to pay attention to the fact a book is "erotica". Not what I expected. Not a long story line and a great deal of graphic description

"Hunters: Heart and Soul" by Shiloh Walker. Books 9 & 10 in The Hunters series.

This book contains two stories, "Soul of a Hunter" and "Heart of a Hunter", both novella in length.

Review of Soul of a Hunter

I really enjoyed this one! So happy that Mike and Leandra finally get their happily-ever-after!

Leandra has had quite a journey throughout the books so far. She started on the side of evil, but now she's a Hunter. But Leandra is having a very difficult time forgiving herself for all the evil things she's done in the past. Especially shooting Mike. Mike has forgiven Leandra for what she did to him. He knows that she was a different person back then. He hasn't stopped thinking about her all these years and now that she's back in Eli's Enclave, he is determined to help her...and have her all to himself.

The story flows very well. The chemistry between Mike and Leandra is so steamy! It leaves you with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end as to what happens to another character.

Review of Heart of a Hunter

This second story is about two of my favourite characters Malachi and Kelsey. So happy that Malachi got a happily-ever-after and Kelsey is the perfect woman for him. This story continues about 3 months after the first story.

Kelsey is charged with the duty of bringing Morgan (and evil witch) to the Council for judgement. But Kelsey has learned a truth about Morgan; she's not who everyone thinks she is. The council members won't listen to her and if they don't, an innocent girl may be put to death. Kelsey needs help. Malachi is the head of the council but he's been MIA. He's one of the only ones the council will listen to. If she can't find him, she'll have to resort to drastic measures.

Malachi just wants to be left alone. He has lived such a long life that he's not sure what there is anymore to make life even worth living. Except for his dreams of a beautiful woman who is more real to him than anything else. But in his dreams, he's never seen her face. Now Kelsey needs his help. He's denied his attraction to her for years. They could just never be together...it just wouldn't work....

The chemistry between Malachi and Kelsey is fan-yourself H-O-T! The first chapter is ridiculously steamy! The story between them is just great. The reader gets the answer to the cliffhanger ending from the first story. I find myself hoping that Vax (a secondary character in this story) gets his own story. The descriptions throughout the book were very well articulated. I thoroughly enjoyed both these stories. Can't wait to read the next one.

This was the novel I was most looking forward to and Shiloh Walker did not disappoint.

This book covers the romance between Kelsey & Malachi (Heart) and Leandra and Mike (Soul) - romances that I was surprised it was covered in the same novella but it worked all the same.

The book reflects back from one of the previous stories. Leandra's final training is to forgive her demons and the only way to do this is to train at Eli's Enclave. Leandra's walls our solid and after six months, she has not let anyone in besides her closest friends. Each time she is placed in the same room as Mike (Shapeshifter who she hurt whilst working for the Scythe) she leaves not realising that Mike harbours the same feelings for her.

Malachi after losing his dearest friend is lost even further. He is lonely after travelling the world for over a thousand years. He feels he does not deserve anything and his will to live is slowly dying. He has been reliving vivid dreams of a woman whose face he cannot see for the past few decades and his heart is slowly breaking.

A dream thief is captured by the Hunters at Eli's Enclave and something unbelievable happens. After securing the prisoner and returning her to the Council for sentencing; Kesley realises just whom this prisoner is. Knowing the remaining council members will not listen to her, she approaches Malachi for help and finally gives into her emotions.

I cannot say much more for fear I will spoil the book for other readers. It was one of the books I was most looking forward to reading and because of this book, I have the urging to read the full Malachi story - which may be one of the next few books I will be reading!

If you are a fan of the Hunter series, Shiloh Walker or just love the paranormal romance then this series is good for you! Read it, you won't be disappointed!

Probably one of my most anticipated books of the series because it features (my) perennial favorites, both Mal and Leandra.

The first book is Leandra and Mike. This was probably the most disappointing because the romance was incredibly anemic. I knew nothing about Mike before this book (except he got shot by Leandra) and still knew nothing about him by the time he and Leandra got together. She was such a big personality in the previous books so I was sure we'd get a book worthy of her. But...pfft.

I also thought the story took a few steps back character wise for Leandra. It had appeared in the previous book that she had come to peace with both her origins as being part of the evil Scythe and her vampirism. But this story starts off with her still hand-wringing about it. Took me out of the story.

Meanwhile the second book featuring Mal and Kasey was a bit better. But again, the romance was pretty anemic. At least we got to know Kasey a from the previous books. But so much of the book was taken up with the Morgan plot and introducing a bunch of brand new characters that it tended to over-ride the romance.

Mal is probably the most fascinating character in the whole series and really deserved a better story. I was also disappointed we never got a final conversation between Mal and Leandra. He needed to apologize to her and instead, pfft--nothing.

So I was pretty bummed by this one.

This is two long awaited novellas in one. Mike and Leandra and Malachi and Kelsey. I recently read the short story, Malachi, and was dying to finally get his HEA. I'd recommend you read that short story before this one.

Mike and Leandra - I've been excited for their story for awhile, though I confess I picked this up because I wanted to read about Malachi. I wasn't disappointed. Mike was just what I expected him to be..strong, caring and everything Leandra needed. Leandra I became frustrated with at times, simply because I wanted her to wake up and realize what she had (both figuratively and literally). I do love how strong she was and that Walker made her journey one worth reading.

3.75 out of 5

Malachi and Kelsey - The way Mal kept running away pissed me off. He was a grown man, yet he kept storming off in a huff. Otherwise I really enjoyed this. The romance was well done, though I think it would have benefited from a longer page count. More focus should have been on the couple. I really liked the storyline.

3.5 out of 5

Strong characters and interesting plots made for a great read.

I loved both parts of this book it was related to one story but had two different romances going on. In Soul of A Hunter it is the story of Mike and Leandra and in Heart of A Hunter it was Malachi and Kelsey's story though all four characters had major roles in both books. The romance was as good as you could expect but it had enough action to keep you interested. I love Shiloh's writing style and hope my copy of Hunter's Salvation gets here today.

This is a part of the hunters series and you actually get two love stories for the one plot which was nice that it was the same story line your just getting a new perspective on it when you reach the halfway point. This has to be one of my favorite books in this series not only do we finally get Malachi's story and happy ending, but this leads us into Nessa's story and it about time both of these characters have been alone for so long. This was a great read

5 Stars!

Leandra's story was very good but Malachi was fantastic!
It might have something to do with the fact that I'm a sucker for the powerful but lonely alpha male.

Malachi has been having dreams of a woman for thousands of years and after all this time he is finally at the end of the line. Hope is eluding him and he is dead tired.

I cannot recommend this story enough! Seriously, go read it now!

This book only got 3 stars because I can't stand short stories and yet friends keep grabbing me books by authors I like, this is what you get when you own more than 2000 books and people want to get you something so I read it and I did enjoy it, I'm glad she chose the characters she did and they are got and steamy. I enjoy this author but i like the single stories better because they are longer and I fell I get to know the characters better.

This was not my favorite book from this series. The first story, Soul of a Hunter with Mike and Leandra, was ok, but not great.

The second story, Heart of a Hunter, is Malachi and Kelsey's story. I liked this one a little bit better.

Overall this was just a typical paranormal romance, nothing great to make it stand out, but nothing terrible to complain about either.

Currently reading, just finished with the first half; Soul of a Hunter.

My comment? It's dragging. As in duh-ra-A-A-A-ging. Like I can't wait to just finish of the middle part. Where you know, all three of them are stuck somewhere.

So yeah, it's dragging. Just like this review.;)

Shiloh Walker's Hunter series is a must-read. I read this book out of order, because it continued the stories of some of the characters I HAD to know about - in particular, Mike and Leandra. Mal and Kelsey did not disappoint, though.

A satisfactory book, but not as fun as Hunting the Hunter. Walker's books are somewhat erratic for quality. When she is good, she is very good. This is a B+.
