Velma's uncle, a famous archeologist, asks the gang to visit his dig site in Mexico. It seems something is scaring his workers, and he needs to get to the bottom of it. But when Scooby-Doo and the gang arrives, the dig is empty and Velma's uncle is missing! Where did he go and what's scaring everyone? To solve the mystery, readers choose which characters to follow, discovering what seems to be Aztec ghosts and monsters along the way.
She loved it and we read the book multiple times, exploring every ending. It can be tricky finding pick a path books with some illustrations and about the right level; she loves Scooby Doo so will need to find more in the series.
As for it's loose tie in to our Mexico and Aztec studies (a very loose tie in!), it was an opportunity to talk about how history can inspire fiction (but that fiction is often not very accurate in its depiction) and to review how Aztec pyramids differ to ancient Egyptian pyramids.
Miss 5 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Read twice but with the odd endings - didn’t try the third original storyline option. Daphne’s story was very sweet with the Aztec ghost dog saving her but also very anticlimactic. In the other story, the supercomputer mining data just seemed out of place with the original setting.

This book wasn’t very good at all. A lot of the endings didn’t make any sense, and every ending there was, someone else was the person behind everything, sometimes with a new reason why and sometimes not. Also, the gang knew every single person that they unmasked in every different version of the story. I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as I have even other you choose Scooby books. It was definitely a let down.
