"The Huntress" by Shiloh Walker. A prequil to The Hunters series. Novella.

I really enjoyed this story. It tells us how the first Huntress was created. The main characters are Matthew and his wife Rachel. We learn the history of how hunters came to be. The storyline moved quite quickly and once or twice I thought I skipped over something but no, that's just how quick the plot moves along. I really enjoyed this little sneak peak into the past of the Hunters. We even see some familiar names right at the end!

Well done.

Not in KU but I reread my old copy from many years go.
Loved how this explains how The Hunters came about but not sure where the dark ones started out from.
Rachel was one brave woman, ahead of her times and Mathew, just a very superb alpha hero for me.

A must read to all who want to read the Hunter's series. This is a fast short story relating the origins of the Hunters. Matthew and Rachel: the first Hunters. The ones thats started it all with the angel Benjamin's guidance. Book was hard to find. Can be found as a single or in an anthology that includes 2 other short Hunter stories: Hunter's Pride and Malachi. Both good to read also. I will be reviewing them separatly.

Best part: Rachel rescueing Mary.

The vampire monsters are killing the villagers… Rachel’s husband did not come back from a month ago… they are gathered at her home, trying to decide what to do… and her husband shows up, and he’s been changed… but he has control of the vampirism, and he can fight them… and needs another to join him… and she of course steps up (against Matthew’s wishes)… and they form the first Council… to protect humanity…

Even though this is book 9 in the series, it gives a background as how the Council was started, and the birth of the Hunters. Like all of S.Walker's books, it was just too damn short.
