Candace Bristol has always been obsessed with comic books, but in a world where the nightly news often mirrors these inked stories, her dreams of becoming a real superhero could actually come true. After being rescued by members of the government’s AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution (ANGEL) Project four years ago, getting recruited for this elite team is all she's wanted.

Now 18, she's finally reached her goal after years of study and physical training, but little could have prepared her for life as a genetic experiment. As though coming to terms with her new ability to manipulate water isn't tough enough, she never expected to be swept off her feet by one of her fellow recruits.

With genetic alteration, the threat of physical and mental instability hangs over every superhero like a shadow. When one of their own tumbles over the edge of madness, Candace will have to choose between protecting the world, and saving the one who holds her heart.

Freaking fantastic.
I read this book in ONE DAY -- all grabby hands and holy crap is it really 2am?? -- and now I must feverishly stalk both this author and the Evolution series. For all readers who like a little sexy with their hero, this is the book for you.
Fully endorse and recommend this book for readers 17+, for some steamy bow-chicka-wow-wow stuff.

WOWHolyCrapOhMyGoodness. This is my first read from Ms. Huchton and... wow is about all I can coherently form right now. What incredible characters! Even the characters she wanted you to hate, you felt you knew and wanted to feel sorry for because of how beautifully described they were. The tension between characters and scenes in the book really drew me in. By the end of the second chapter, there was no way I was going to NOT finish the book. I was too engrossed in the world Ms. Huchton built for me to dive into.

As a complete nerd, I have to also comment - SCIENCE! The amount of research and knowledge that went into this book is staggering. Coming from a science and geek-ish background, I was very impressed with the word usage, medical terms, and descriptions for everything. When we hear certain terms, we get a picture in our head of what that must be like. Ms. Huchton just took it a step further and made us feel each description and change that the superheroes go through. It was the perfect balance of nerdiness and it flowed right in. Even people that aren't drooling for awesome science will be able to enjoy how it is described. There's not too much or too little. Simply perfect!

The abilities! WOW again. (There can never be too much wow for a great book, in my opinion!). If you're a superhero lover and geek like me, you are waiting for the typical abilities. You see glimpses of what you would consider a super power, but then Ms. Huchton adds her own brand of magic to it and turns it into something truly incredible. By the end of the book, I couldn't decided if I wanted to be a super hero or just fangirl over them all.

In perfect honesty, I cursed when I finished it. It was a fabulous read and I just cannot wait for the next one! Way to go, Ms. Huchton. You officially addicted a reader. Thank you!!

First Thoughts: I had been hearing rumors of a series that Starla was working on that was full of superheroes… and I will be honest, when she asked if I wanted to read them I may have squealed and celebrated just a little (ok maybe I fangirled like a teenager) but I just HAD to read them! I have had the super amazing opportunity to read all three books already but this will totally be a non spoilery review I promise!
The Story: OMG this storyline just hooks you, it is so different from everything else I have ever read, it is also perfect for the secret nerds (you know you love superheroes and gadgets but you don’t tell anyone) plus there are SO many characters to love in this book! Obviously is focuses more on certain ones but you can still pick your favorites! OH! And did I mention that there are some super kickass female characters as well as a plethora or super hot male superheroes?
The Characters: Candace may be the most awesome super kickass female character I have ever read in a book. She is a tough chick and does not take shit from anyone. I absolutely adored her! Jeez I could seriously go on and on and on FOREVER about all the guys but I don’t want to give anything away! So I will just say that they are all super sexy and there is a place in my heart for all of them… although I do of course have my favorite (which I will share after the second or third book releases)
Final Thoughts: I seriously think there should be Evolution Trading Cards! Please Starla can you create some with your awesome computer magic? I can not stop gushing about this book, and although I read all three books (in like record time btw) I am already wanting more! I don’t know what it is about Starla and her books but they always give me a book hangover! There is just so much packed into each story and it should be information overload BUT ITS NOT! It all just fits and flows and oh man you HAVE to read this book!

Holy Genetic Superheroes, Batman!! I have been waiting for a book like this! A comic book - loving girl whose dreams come true as she’s chosen to be genetically engineered into a superhero! Yowza!! Candace is perfect for the job. She’s motivated and has a great attitude. Plus she’s very determined not to let any guy get in the way of her success. Yeah, we all know how that usually works out. Especially when you’re surrounded by guys and stuck in a training facility. Trust me, there’s a hottie for everyone to swoon over, whether you like the cute, sensitive geek that says and does all the right things or the annoyingly self-righteous bad boy that shows up everywhere you don’t want him to. Candace does her best to ignore them all and live through the process of becoming a hero without screwing up or going insane. Needless to say, this is a fascinating and very fast-paced story with tons of surprises to keep you guessing. I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to get my hands on the next one!

*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.*

As someone who likes some originality in my books, I was pretty sure that this one would deliver. It promised superheroes, an interesting main character, and lots of action. Luckily for me, I got that originality, along with an intriguing story.

Candace was one of the coolest female leads. She was one of those girls I’d love to be friends with. She had attitude, compassion, and was quick to tell people what she thought. I really liked her, and seeing this story through her eyes was really great. I did get a bit annoyed with Candace near the end, when she made a huge decision that changed everything. However, I understood why she did it, and I think that that really showed how skilled the author is at creating interesting, but flawed characters.

The other people in this novel were just as interesting. There was Candace’s cousin Gabe, whom I thought was really great. I liked their relationship, because it was fun and light, but serious when it needed to be. Jackson was very interesting, and I definitely think that there is a lot more to him than the image of the bad boy that he hides behind. I really liked True, as well, because she was a bit of a mentor to Candace, and I thought that Candace really needed a strong female friend to help her through everything. Finally, there was Adrian. I really liked him. The fact that he was a reader was awesome, and I loved that he read to Candace. Most of the events surrounding him are huge spoilers, so I’ll just say that I thought he and Candace were really great as a couple, most of the time.

The plot of this novel was really interesting, and full of action. It was all about Candace training to become a superhero. There were battles, tests, and even some romance. Through it all, I was riveted. I never got bored, and the pace was pretty quick. However, there were some really emotional parts, and the ending of this book killed me.

Overall, I thought that this story was unique, and really interesting. Told through the eyes of a really strong and relatable main character, it was all about life, love, and what it means to be a hero. My only real complaint is that the ending of this novel is a bit brutal, and it ends in the middle of a scene. Other than that though, there’s no reason why any science-fiction lover shouldn’t pick this one up, especially if great heroines are your thing as much as they are mine.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Right from the introduction I was swept up and happily dragged along for the ride with Candice our main character as she gets the chance to live out her dream of being a super powered member of the ANGEL program.

I actually didn't pay attention to what genre this story was (and I usually don’t) and for some reason had it in my head this was a Young Adult title. Yeah it’s not. Things took an unexpectedly "adult" turn. And while there are a few adult scenes, they're more fade to black with a hint of skinamax and not explicit.

While the story started really strong, the middle got a little more like a racy Sky High than the Avengers. That’s not a bad thing at all though, Sky High is a kick butt movie, but it’s a change of tone that made the middle feel a little off from the beginning and end. Speaking of the ending, whew! It goes out on a brutal high-note that’s sure to change the tone going forward in the series. Comic book / Superhero fans aren't going to want to miss this series!

I can't even! I wish I'd written up a review right after I read this book (brag alert: I've read the whole series!!) because I could have said SO many things about it. Now, four months later I can only say GAH!!!

Starla has written a superhero book for the masses. Littered with just enough sci-fi love to please the nerd readers and enough loving to please romance fans, E:A is amazing! The characters are well balanced and fun, the boys sexy, the plot fast paced, fun AND different.

I highly recommend you get your hands on E:A when it releases on March 6, 2014 because it is phenomenal and it only get's better!

So, I don’t think I can say enough good things about this book.

Candice loves everything about superheroes, and she can’t wait until she turns eighteen to sign up for the Angel project. When she’s accepted, it’s the thing of her dreams. Inside the experiment, she learns a lot about herself and those who were accepted alongside her. Her cousin, Gabe, introduces her to her soon to be lover, Adrian, and from there, Candice’s life is beautiful. When her powers start to come in, and she nears graduating from the program, things start to change. Evil isn’t a black and white concept. She’s about to learn just how many shades it comes it.

This story hit everything that I love about a YA book, not to mention the twist of an ending. This book was filled with beautiful characterization that had been wondering if the author based them off real people. The descriptions were well done, and the worldbuilding was fantastic. Not to mention the possible love triangle and real teenage angst. It was all so brilliantly done that I was legitimately sad when the book ended.

Great news though is that this is just the beginning of the series. I will definitely be continuing on to see what else poor Candy Cane will have to endure.

Narration was wonderfully done giving life to each of the characters in a way that further brought the story to life.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Istyria book blog ~ B's world of enchanted books

3.5 stars

Wow. To be honest, for most of the time, like 70 or 80%, it seemed like it would end up as a 2-star book. It really did. But then that last 30-20%... Wow. It was so heartbreaking and terrifying and I was glued to the pages every single word. And then it ended... Sigh. Why do books have endings again?

Candace Bristol lives in my perfect world. A world where superheroes are real. 4 years ago, she was rescued by a member of the government's AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution (ANGEL) Project. Since then, all she's wanted is to be recruited for this elite team of superheroes. When she's 18, she's reached her goal and is off to become a superhero. But it doesn't go like she initially thought it would. She has to deal with her new powers to manipulate water and crazy hormones due to the treatment. And when one of their own is on the edge of madness, Candace has to choose between protecting the world and the one who holds her heart.

I think my main problem with this book was that I did not know the romance would be so big. I expected a bad ass book full of cool superhero action. And there is some of that, but there's a lot of romance too. If I had known that, I would have enjoyed the book more! The second thing was the conversations... I don't know, in the first half they were kind of weird. I can't describe it. But it got better! But I really loved the overall story. Is it a bit predictable? Maybe, but that's because the blurb gives away a lot when you read it over once you've started the book and are about 30% in.

The romance, although I did not expected it to be so big of a part in the story, was really good. I really loved it and the end was just heartbreaking and terrifying! For a while, I thought it would be a love triangle, but it wasn't, so that's good.

The superpowers. I need to talk about those. They were awesome and I'll talk about it in more detail in a moment, but first I need to explain the ANGEL Project. Basically, it's an organization from the government. A guy found a way to give someone superpowers by giving them some sort of treatment that alters your DNA. They do not know beforehand what that power will be. Once your 18, you can sign up with them and maybe become a superhero. Who wouldn't want that? I would!

Candace gets the power to manipulate water. And when she's using her power, it's really cool! But there's also a side of it that's terrifying because it's so much power she has in her hands and if she looses control or her will-power just a few seconds... I loved Candace. I really did. She's a comic book nerd and I get that. She's obsessed with superheroes and superpowers. I get that! THAT'S ME! Only I would not have her power. Mine would be fire. Absolutely. Speaking of fire, Jackson! He's an ass most of this book and though I kind of expected why, it's not really revealed until the last chapter, the epilogue. I'm not really sure what his power is, only that it has to do something with fire. But even though he's mean and stupid most of the time, I did like him. He grew on me. Then you have Gabe, Candace's cousing, and True and a bunch of other side characters. I liked them all, I really did. Superheroes are the best. And then, last but not least, Adrian. Candace's love interest. I really liked him and I felt for him! And the end... It crushed me.

If I had known how big of a part the romance would play in this book, I would have loved this book. But I did not, sadly. I don't really expect a great romance in a superhero book you know? I want them to kick ass with their powers! But still, now you've read this review and you know and if you love superpowers and superheroes with a great romance, this is the perfect book for you. BUT! Be warned for that the ending. And the damned sort of cliffhanger! Next book! Now!

Even the second time through I was riveted with the story. Learning with Candace about her powers, each step of the way as the stakes grow with responsibility with a power this strong. Water. Who would have thought water ability could be this strong and powerful? Then the romance! Sexy superheroes! Ga!

Fast action, humor, story, and love! All in one place!

****FULL REVIEW****
Candace has loved the superheroes since she first heard of, let alone saw, them four years ago. She was a comic fan from before they even came up with a way to make superheroes. She wanted nothing more than to be one. She had the genetics, daughter to a twin. When Candace finally gets her letter she can't wait to become an ANGEL and do some good in the world. However, Candace never expected the side effects of the treatments...ramped up hormones. Candace pairs with one boy, a kind young man who sweeps her off her feet with reading to her. Yet, being a superhero isn't easy, when you have to make the tough decisions for the better of many.

Even the second time through this book I was riveted with the story. Learning with Candace about her powers, each step of the way as the stakes grow with responsibility with a power this strong. Water. Who would have thought water ability could be this strong and powerful? Then the romance! Sexy superheroes! Ga! You don't get them this way. Super sexy men and woman.

Fast action, humor, story, and love! All in one place!

So much love for these characters! Candace is a strong girl. Strong morals and trying to be a good person in life along with a great superhero. I love Candace's relationship with her cousin Gabe. They are close, almost like brother and sister, and make me laugh. Aaah, then we have Adrian. Oh goodness, he loves books and reads to Candace. *sigh* Then we have my favorite, so kick me I'm a bad boy junkie with books, Jackson. Oh I love him and the tension and teasing he brings to the table.

We go through the process of becoming a superhero with Candace. We feel the pain and much more through the words S.A. Huchton weaves together for us. Huchton takes superheroes to a new level, sexy and awesome. So many great elements all weaved together here in one place. The training and learning of her ability. Each time Candace uses her ability she ups the ante and stakes with the responsibility and control she needs to maintain.

This story feels as it has a little bit of X-men and superheroes we love weaved with many more elements in Candace's story creating a smexy tale as well.

In the end we start to see the ANGEL project isn't completely perfect as Candace had seen it when on the outside. There are little things here that lead us to question 'what if?'. And what of Candace? Now what? You will want more after this one. Huchton has added a bonus short at the end as well. One that will give you a little something to think on for the future. Maybe? ;)

This creation was exactly what I wanted in a Superhero Romance.

Love superheroes? Love quick action? Love Romance? YOU GOTTA READ THIS ONE!!!

I was given an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Hi, my name is Allura and I am a Huchton fangirl. I was ECSTATIC when I saw on twitter that Huchton was writing a superhero romance! I LOVE her Endure Series so much so I was dying to get my hands on this book. I was in no way, shape, or form disappointed. I devoured Evolution: ANGEL and loved every second of it.

There are so many things I enjoy and treasure about Huchton's books, her characters, her stories, and all of the research she obviously does to make her science-y aspects believable. I was immediately sucked into ANGEL (as I’m going to refer to it from here on out). I have never read a superhero book so I was a little nervous it might not live up to my expectations. I can admit that I was VERY wrong. The plot was paced well; there was action, romance, and well-placed humor. I loved the characters. Candace was a spit-fire and hilarious. She is definitely not a push-over and she goes after what she wants. She also always does what she believes is right and is incredibly compassionate and loyal. She is my ideal female main character. She’s smart, strong, and witty. I loved her relationship with her cousin, Gabe, it was endearing and I was happy to see that their bond could withstand some of the things thrown at them. There were so many characters in this book that I adored, especially Adrian. The fact that he’s named Adrian made me love him enough, but he was such a doll. I love the sweet guys and I was happy to see Candace give him chance even though there are plenty of super-prospects surrounding her. I also really loved Jackson. Even though he was kind of rude and obnoxious, he was who he was and I appreciated that. I also couldn’t really figure him out so that intrigued me even more. The banter between Candace and Jackson had me cracking up throughout the entire book. Some of my favorite lines were either about Jackson or exchanged between Jackson and Candace. There are so many characters, but these four made the most impact on me and thus were my favorites.

As for the whole superhero angle, it was well done. What was most important to me was that I believed that these superheroes could exist by means of genetic manipulation. Sometimes the idea is there, but the execution is poor. I didn’t feel that way when I read about Candace and the other recruits. I know superheroes don’t exist (or do they?) but the research, scientific, and medical terminology that was used allowed me to truly believe what I was reading.

This book is a rollercoaster. There are highs and lows, twists, turns, and even a few moments that literally had my heart in my throat. I was crushed, I laughed, I cried, I swooned. The story definitely evoked a lot of emotion in me, especially that ending! I am going to go crazy waiting for book two! All in all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes sci-fi, superheroes, or something just a little different. This book should definitely be read by a mature audience, though, given some language and sexual situations.

The Book:

Like many of us, Candace Bristol grew up reading comic books and dreaming of becoming a super hero. Unlike most of us, her dream is about to become a reality. Accepted into the government’s AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution (ANGEL) Project, 18-year-old Candace can’t believe her good luck. But is being a super as wonderful or as simple as she expects it to be?

What I Liked:

Full disclosure: this is the first time I’ve ever read what can be classified a ‘romance’ novel. As a result I’m full to bursting with assumptions and stereotypes about the genre that are probably both untrue and unfair.

Luckily I’m a huge fan of science fiction, fantasy and super hero stories…all genres that suffer from similar (and generally false) assumptions and stereotypes.

Evolution: ANGEL was the perfect read for me because it fits into each one of those genres at the same time.

It doesn’t come across as a story about a relationship that is set in a sci-fi universe for no reason. It also doesn’t come across as a super hero story with a relationship and sex just for titillation.

What Huchton gives us is an intense super hero origin tale with just enough sexual tension (and sex) to make us feel like her characters are real people and not the asexual demi-gods seen so often in books or on screen.

And the sci-fi awesomeness of our heroine learning to control her hydrokinesis doesn’t suffer a bit because our heroine is also concerned about her love life.

I rooted for her in both pursuits, and I think you will too.

What I Disliked:

Evolution: ANGEL is a fast read, and that helps add to the intense experiences Candace is going through. Unfortunately the story was over far too soon for my tastes.

While I’ll avoid spoilers, I will say that the ending also seemed to be a bit too abrupt and left me with some serious questions about Candace’s choices and whether she is the hero I as the reader want her to be. I only hope that the next two books in the series address that, because I have a feeling it will make for a very interesting read.

Rating:

4 out of 5 Stars

A little short for a voracious reader such as myself, but a damn fun and steamy beginning to a story I plan on following the whole way through.

In the past few years, I have read more books than I can count. Because of that, I find it really hard to find a book that's different from the rest. Originality is something that I have been looking for in books lately and I found it Evolution:ANGEL.

Candace became one of my favorite female characters. She is one of the most kickass heroines I have read in a very long time. She doesn't back down from anything and is pretty fierce. She is brave and doesn't take any crap from anyone. I simply adored her. There are many MANY hot guys to swoon over in this book and I adored them all. Jackson and Adrian were my favorite Jackson is the sarcastic bad boy that I always seem to fall for in books and Adrian is the sweet guy that everything he said made me swoon.

The plot of this story is super interesting. Candace applied to become a superhero thanks to the AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution (ANGEL) Project. She wanted to be a member of their elite team since one of them rescued her when she was younger. When she finds out she is accepted to be part of this special project, she is ecstatic. When she arrives to start her treatment to become a superhero, she learns that there's more to it than what the public knows about superheroes and what she had thought.

I have had the pleasure of reading a few other S.A. Huchton books that I immensely enjoyed, but this one is by far my favorite by her. It had everything I love and more. Kickass heroine? Check! Pretty awesome action scenes? Check! Swoon-worthy men? Check! and of course, amazing romance? Check and Check! And that ending almost gave me a heart attack. I was so not expecting all that to happen and I cannot wait for the next book in the series and see where the story will go from here.

Overall, I really loved this book. This book compares to nothing I have read or heard of before. It had tons of actions, great characters,an interesting storyline, and some pretty kickass superheroes. I can definitely say that this book has been one of the best books I have read so far this year.I highly recommend you read this book, you won't be disappointed.

First off, the main character's name is Candace (spelled correctly) so hello! of course I immediately loved her, but as it turns out she also sounds a lot like me, well at least in attitude as she is way smarter, and she reacts similar to how I do so I connected with this character in a big, big way. Secondly, it is a S.A. Huchton book, and I LOVE her books! I was not let down! This book was even more than I had expected I only had one problem with it, and it seems to be my problem with most of the books I read these days, it ended before I wanted it to.

What did I like about the book: This author's books are always so well written. I'm not just talking about her grammar and such I'm just talking about how nothing is dumbed-down. You learn things, and your brain gets pushed a little more than normal and I like that. I loved every single character in this book, there isn't one that I wish would leave, not a one. I also like how the idea of an academy for superheroes is used, but a little different from what I expected. She's taken an idea that you may have heard and completely ramped it up to be her own unique story. So if you read the synopsis and think "sounds familiar" think again, because it isn't.

What I didn't like about the book: The things I didn't like about this book are things necessary for the story line to develop in the way it needs to. I was heartbroken in part of it and left with a ton of questions, but this doesn't reflect on how I feel about the book, it is just part of the process of reading a book that is not a standalone story. Being a fan of other books by this author, I know that she is extremely good about bringing a story together in the timing that is perfect for the book, even if it isn't when I want it (which was as soon as I read it). Which, in my opinion, makes her an even better writer.

Would I recommend this book: Absolutely! Superheroes are not something I typically read about, I like the movies ok, but I've never read much about them and I loved it. So even if this isn't your typical genre, give it a try you may be very pleasantly surprised.

~* I received an advance reader's copy of this book from Girls *Heart* Books tours in exchange for an honest review. *~

Evolution: ANGEL is the story of Candace Bristol, a young 18-year-old girl whose dreams of joining the newest military branch, the ANGELs are finally realized after being rescued by the modern day superheroes four years beforehand. When she is finally accepted, she is whisked away to California to begin testing and training. It is here she meets back up with her cousin, Gabe, who tries to help prepare her for what she is going to endure as she goes through her treatments to unlock her powers. What she isn't prepared for is Adrian, a guy who is perfect for her in every way. All seems well in her life until her final test. Will she make the right decision or lose it all?

The copy I received was an advance reader's copy (ARC) and as such, I cannot vouch for the grammatical correctness of the story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, fantasy, or paranormal romance. There are sexual situations, so this book is definitely intended for mature audiences.

Overall, I am simply floored. While reading this story, I was completely hooked. It haunted my dreams and subconscious like an addiction and I spent a few nights awake until my eyes hurt, wanting nothing more than to live another moment in the world Ms. Huchton created. I fell in love with the characters so fully that their troubles felt like my own. The plot is carried out so seamlessly and without flaws that I almost pictured everything as a viewer would a movie. This was my very first read from this incredibly talented author and I have made a vow to myself that it will not be the last. I am positively anxious for the second book to be released. It takes something special to make me feel at home in the pages of a story, but she has certainly achieved it with her relatable characters and comic book style imagery.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Evolution: ANGEL is a high-action, fast-paced ride through an intriguing world of genetically created superheroes. I read this book today while I was sitting in the Central Jury Room, waiting hour upon hour to be called into a courtroom. This book was a Godsend! I swear reading this novel made the time fly by. When I finished, I almost cried. I couldn't believe it was over and was desperate for more.

Candace is a kick-ass heroine. Smart, sassy, powerful—I absolutely loved her. She has been obsessed with the ANGEL program for years. It was so much fun to follow her in her journey to become a superhero. While undergoing treatment, she experiences some rather amusing side effects. Romantic interest Adrian is sweet and handsome. While I liked his character, for some reason I didn't like him with Candace. He was always so needy. There are hints at trauma in Adrian's past, but that remains a mystery at the end of the novel.

I loved all the characters, especially the interactions between them. The dialogue was so well-written, it just flowed from scene to scene. I especially liked bad boy Jackson. There was just something about him that drew me like a moth to a flame. This novel is hilarious at times. I drew some unwanted attention in the jury room with my laughter—I just couldn't keep it in. The action scenes are numerous and fun to read.

Though it's book one in a series, Evolution: ANGEL has an ending I think most readers will find satisfying. I'll admit, I didn't see this ending coming. Ms. Huchton was kind enough to provide an ending to the current story while still leaving me wanting more. Right now would be good. I can't wait to read more about Candace and all the ANGELs. This novel is appropriate for ages 17+ due to mature content. I highly recommend adding it to your TBR list. It made the top of my favorites list.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for my stop on the blog tour at Donnie Darko Girl.

What a crazy and heartbreaking ride! Evolution: ANGEL took me from the heights of euphoria to the depths of despair. My thoughts are still in a whirlwind. I had to decompress after finishing this book - so much happens but I also know so much has YET to happen. It's that intense of a read.

Candace is a firecracker. She's tough, goal driven, and becoming an ANGEL (AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution) is what she's wanted for the last four years - working and studying hard to get there. I really think she dreamed of becoming a superhero - even before she and her cousin were rescued by ANGELs - during all the years she's spent reading comics.

Adrian has to be every bookworm girl's dream. All he'd have to do for me is read out loud to me like he did for Candace, and I'd become putty in his hands. That's gotta be the sexiest thing I've read a guy doing. Plus, he's working in the library for the time being. AND Candace wins him over when she corrects her cousin's grammar, haha! What a man!

Jackson is the "bad boy" kind of superhero - there are a lot of layers to him that I didn't get to see in this first book and hope will be explored next time. Sparks fly between him and Candace - I could tell there was an attraction there that both worked very hard to deny.

That ending! I can't figure out if I dreamed it up or if it really happened. All I know is I couldn't breathe afterwards - I had to calm myself down just so I could sleep. I'm emotionally wrecked and desperate to find out what happens next. What to do in the meantime?!?

This book was recommended to me by my soul twin, Christy Lynn Foster. I love anything about superheros and adding romance to the mix makes me one happy camper. This wasn’t your usual cookie cutter romance either. I would say is was more 70% story and 30% romance. Candace has been wanting to be an ANGEL for her whole high school career. Her cousin Gabe was accepted the year prior and she was anxiously awaiting her acceptance. ANGELS, or AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution, are people that have been genetically altered with a serum to heighten certain parts of their DNA, essentially giving them super powers. I love how everything is explained in such detail that I felt like I was there watching it unfold. Candace surely is one of a kind. I was so tired of female characters being weak and whiny. She is stubborn, strong, and hilarious.

Here is my favorite quote from the book:

Candace scowled at him. “Why are you still here? Don’t you have books to torture or puppies to kick or souls to eat somewhere?”

I was like a highlighting fiend! There were so many lines that were gut busters. Now, onto my favorite character, the person of Candace’s frustration in the quote above, Jackass Jackson! I feel like there was so much that we don’t know about him, yet you get little snippets. He’s not that bad of a guy even though I’d like to gut him for dog-earing a book. I feel like something big is coming in book two.

My bestie here hates cliffys, but I love them. I was saddened by the outcome but it had to be done. I’m at war with myself trying to decide if it was for the greater good or if the author just likes killing peoples puppies. In the end you’re left with a truly awe inspiring tale that will leave your heart in shambles.

Yes, Yes, Yes!!!
This is the Sci-Fi book I have been waiting for. Evolution: Angel is the first book in the Evolution series and it is SPECTACULAR!
Candice is just a normal girl who wants to be like the superheroes in her beloved comic books. Candice gets her wish to join a government program where superheroes are made and she quickly finds out there is more to the life of a superhero than just saving the day. Candice is the kind of strong heroin I love reading about. She is the kind of character who learns from her mistakes and embraces her flaws.
This book was so well written and the characters are well developed people who break superhero and Sci-Fi stereotypes wide open. Evolution: Angel is action packed, emotional, quirky, humorous, romantic, and spicy all at once. This is by for the best book I have read in a while and checks all of the boxes in my geeky fan girl category!

OH MY GOSH GUYS! READ THIS BOOK!

More coherently: I’m kind of a superhero freak. I also absolutely adored the other books Starla’s written. So when she announced she was writing a super series, I completely fangirled! And I was not let down. Her world is original, smart, funny, and just all around awesome. Candace is a kick-ass heroine and the men in her life are completely and utterly swoon worthy, even the ones you want to hate. The whole set up is pretty awesome. Having superheroes be known, be created, and having a whole academy for it was fun to read. And the powers and circumstances surrounding them were pleasantly original. And, as always, the amount of science in this (and all of Starla’s other books) was a welcome addition, enlightening the story but not drowning the reader.

Bottom line: If you like superheroes, sci-fi, romance, or any combination thereof, READ EVOLUTION: ANGEL.

I had trouble sleeping one night, so around 10pm I started Evolution Angel. At 3am I had finished it and was hurriedly opening the next book in the series. OMGee people! This may be my new favorite in Sci-Fi. I could NOT put it down!
It's exactly as you would imagine having gifts like these would be. Not what you expect, and harder yet more glorious than you could imagine.
Candace is not the normal heroine. She doesn't need saving, she is the strong one, she is the one who leads by example. I love her banter with all the characters, I am telling you I laughed, cried, laughed, snotted some more.... THIS IS A FANTASTIC book, and you simply HAVE to read it!

Absolutely amazing!

This book blew my mind! The characters are very easy to relate to and the bonds that are formed between them are fabulous. The abilities that are revealed/discovered are great. This is nothing like I have read before. I could clearly
Picture every detail in my mind while reading this book. I felt every emotion and cried when tears were shed, especially when the end is nothing you ever expected to happen. Blew my mind! This is an absolutely amazing read and would recommend to everyone! I am in high anticipation of book 2 in the series!

This book was a refreshing read. The characters growth and development throughout the book was fun and kept me reading till the end. It had some great twists and turns as I kept thinking I know whats going to happen, and was greatly surprised that I was wrong. This book was free and thought why not, very glad I did. I would have paid to read it. Looking forward to the next book. Kind of sad its not out yet I was ready to pay to read it. : ) Thinking Maybe I should look at other books this author has written to read!

This didn't feel like 400 pages -- the book SPED by! I wasn't sure what to expect when I grabbed this first book in the EVOLUTION series, but I was pretty much immediately sucked in! The superhero aspect was really interesting, and the characters were well-drawn. Some of the secondary characters had a LOT of presence, and I look forward to seeing more of them as the series progresses -- particularly Jackson and Gabe.

Amazing!
I read the entire thing in one sitting and I need the next one RIGHT. NOW.
The premise is amazing- genetically engineered superheroes? UM- YES please! I LOVED Candace and her hilarious attitude. I laughed, I cried... There was a little more sex than I anticipated, but definitely not overly graphic or anything.
OK seriously though- I need the next one. Like, yesterday.
Please??!?!

I can't remember the last time I thought every single part of a book was perfect. I don't think I've EVER connected with a character so completely. I'm also sitting here, floundering like a beached whale, because I was NOT READY to stop reading!
