Every "dream come true" comes with a cost. The question is whether it’s worth paying.
Since Adalina can remember, the men in her life have expected obedience and compliance from her. But how can she give that to them when her destiny is to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps and soar upon the dragon’s back?
When the neighboring kingdom of Astarfall insists on an ancient marriage ceremony to wake the slumbering dragon, it seems Adalina’s dreams are at long last within reach. But marriage to an arrogant, smirking Prince—even one as breathtakingly sexy as this one—means placing power and authority in yet another man’s hands.
As a faceless enemy closes in, rumors of a beast summoned from the shadows leave Adalina with little let sleeping dragons lie, or give what freedom she has left to a man she barely knows.
Will Adalina finally fly on the wings of her destiny or will marrying this captivating stranger cost her more than just her dragon and her heart?
A Crown Forged in Flame is the seductive and heart-racing first book in the Daughters of the Flame Trilogy, perfect for readers who love enchanting seaside kingdoms, powerful (yet sleepy) dragons, and an intriguing marriage of convenience trope.
A Crown Forged in Flame contains dragons. That's really all you need to know to pick this up, right?
OK, fine.
Adalina dreams of awakening the last dragon, following in her grandmother's dragonrider footsteps. When everyone bids her to give up, she keeps trying. When malevolent forces threaten, the nearby kingdom of Astarfall requests her help via an ancient marriage ceremony that might just coax the dragon into waking with their combined magic.
The characters are compelling and well-crafted and they resonated strongly with me in particular. Adalina's ambition in the face of failure and the masked emotions and anxiety of Callum create an engaging dynamic. Especially when they learn their pre-arranged marriage one-night stand was... with each other.
The first half of the book is particularly great at drawing readers into the story with its well-paced narrative and intriguing setup. I enjoyed getting to know these characters. I do think that there were some pacing troubles in the latter half of the book. I also felt that the latter half wasn't given enough time to breathe with conflict resolving too quickly. I'm still mad at that character for the betrayal and I'm not ready to forgive them, tbh. I also thought there was a lack of subtlety of the villain, but a more understated approach is just something that I enjoy.
However, this is a compelling book and a welcome addition to the romantasy genre. Readers seeking an enchanting world, dragons (!!), and a marriage of convenience trope will really enjoy this one.
Thanks to the author for the copy. This is an honest review.
So the fact that dragons —or better a dragon— feature in this, is what won me over at the beginning. The characters, and also the dragon once more, is what kept me going throughout. However, some parts were just drawn out a tad too much for my liking but that might just be me. What did bother me immensely though, was the way some action was happing —something really specific like rather detailed hand-combat or something like that— and Adalina’s thoughts would just go elsewhere and her inner turmoil would be described in more or less lengthy detail and it would throw me off soo much every damn time. It just read really clumsy and I didn’t like it and not helping is the fact that it would be the same thing she’s thinking about again and again and again. I could drag this out but long story short, by the end of it I was really freaking annoyed with the FMC because she was just so bratty? so not self-aware? such a hypocrite? Him, the MMC I did like more if only because he did have some type of character development and actually had a character arc throughout the story. So, to say it in the words of Bianca and that somewhat dumb friend of Bianca’s in the 10 Things I Hate About You film, I wasn’t underwhelmed, I wasn’t overwhelmed, I might just have been whelmed and I’m not even in France.
I really enjoy this authors writing and this book is no expection. Absolutley fantastic.
Adalina has a very one trackmind. Callum only tries to make his parents proud and save his people. They certainly start out on the wrong...bed. Great beginning.
Lina has only on thing in her mind and she so determined that it's annoying at times. Callum goes from 'doing what's right', to 'touch her and die'. Lina doesn't care about her own safety and Callum works extra hard to keep her safe but also do what he needs to do to save everyone.
Lina sounded like a petulant child who doesn't get what she want's and pout about it. Callum for me needed a little more of a backbone regarding Lina.
I suspected the mole but was still surprised. I though it was someone else.
The premise was interesting but poorly executed, and I definitely lost interest as the book went on. I wish the side characters were flushed out more and the relationships slowed down, everything seemed rushed for the sake of fitting in more battles.
I was lucky to get an ARC of this book and I am so grateful for it. It was an amazing read with great main characters as well as side characters. The FMC pissed me off a few times because her stubbornness, but it was integral to the overall story line. The romance was great and the spice was tastefully done. Almost everything was wrapped up by the end of the book and laid the groundwork for the next book smoothly. I could hardly put this book down and can't wait for the next one to come out.
I really have moved away from Fantasy and Romantasy because while they are SO good and I love them I just haven't had the brain power to follow new fantasy worlds and people. My brain doesn't want to brain these days. This one showed up one day in my inbox as an ARC and I really wanted to read it. It took me FOREVER but I finished it and I loved it just as much as I knew I would.
The story starts with Adalina living life in small town and trying each month to wake her grandmother's dragon. By birth rights Electra should wake for her and Adalina tries each and every month without any luck. She's obviously becoming frustrated. Then one day she finds herself in the situation of an arranged marriage that MIGHT give her enough power to wake the dragon. Can she marry an essential stranger in order to achieve her dream of riding a dragon? Essential stranger because she used to know the Prince she is supposed to marry when they were younger. He was arrogant and rude and she just did NOT like him. Now? Now he is HOT and arrogant and rude but...dragon!
Anyway, Adalina and Callum's story is so good. They grow together and learn to trust each other and of course there is betrayal but it all comes together. This is listed as #1 in the series Daughters of the Flame and we are told where the next book is going to go at the end of this one. I'm here for it. I'd also not be sad about a prequel with grandma's story.
If you like Fantasy, Romantasy, Fade to Black, Arranged Marriage, DRAGONS, etc then you should absolutely pick this one up!
Give up on her grandmother's legacy and the dragon that comes with or marry the prince that she is desperate to despise?
Every month, Adalina has sought to wake her grandmother's dragon, the last remaining one, but every month, she ends up failing. However, when a new threat creeps into the neighboring land of Astarfall, one that potentially could threaten her home country of Solaris, she must choose between sticking to her current path or embracing a new one. That new one involves a prince who she despises and the potential that she will never be able to ride the dragon that she has tried so hard to wake.
Adalina is remarkably stubborn, something that is both useful and a detriment. There are times when I wanted to tell her to get out of her own way, to stop fighting the attraction that she has for Prince Callum, but eventually they figure out their relationship and dynamic. There were multiple layers to both of main characters, and it was clear that the moment that Adalina thought her wild night wasn't going to come back to bite her in the butt, it definitely was.
This book was a lot of fun, and I suspect that it might be okay to read these books out of order once the second one comes out though a new reader might miss out on some of the background information and character dynamics.
As the granddaughter of the last Dragon Rider, Adalina has always dreamed of soaring through the sky. But the dragon went to sleep decades ago and nothing Adalina does can wake her. The neighbouring kingdom of Asterfall sends word that they wish to invoke an ancient rite in a hope to wake the dragon. The rite will bind Adalina’s dormant magic with the natural magic of the Asterfallen prince Callum through marriage. But Adalina knows that this will give Callum rights to her dragon, and whilst hesitant she comes to learn that Asterfall has been under attack by a faceless enemy. And rumours suggest that they have a giant beast on their side. If she and Callum marry it could cost her her dragon, her dreams and potentially, her heart.
This was a great read. The story really pulled me in. Callum and Adalina had great chemistry however I felt Callum came off as overbearing with his trying to protect Lina. And Lina herself was so stubborn that sometimes it was a bit grating. Them clashing seemed to happen as often as they were irresistible to each other. But I did understand some of it due to the circumstances of their relationship. I would recommend this to anyone who loves romance and dragons. And while first in the series, the story is wrapped up almost completely while leaving a small trail for the next book. Which I cannot wait for.
Rating 4 stars *I received a review copy from the author for my voluntary and honest review
This was such an enjoyable book and I’m so glad I was fortunate enough to receive the ARC! I was pulled in and hooked from the very beginning. I love the “mistaken identity” trope that plays out from the start, for lack of better description. You could see it coming and yet it was still comical, mortifying, and captivating. The storyline was so intriguing and kept me reading long past reasonable bed times. Adalina was an interesting heroine for me. I liked that she stood up for herself, which is wonderful, but 75% through the book I was still waiting for her to show that she had learned something from the rest of the events. She was a bit immature and selfish, and she put Callum in some crummy situations as a result. She did figure it out and grow in the end though, so yay for character arcs! Flip side: I adore Callum. He’s flawed but recognizes it and was willing to compromise…though I think he should apologize less and stand up to Adalina. I like that this storyline was mostly resolved but left you with some insight on where the series would go. I cannot wait to see what comes next!
I absolutely ADORED this book. It was adventurous, heartwarming, shocking, and an amazing love story. I do have to say one of the best things about this book is that the love between the fmc and mmc is not the main focus in this book. The twists and turns in this book are so good, some I didn't even see coming! It's a chunk of a book, but it's worth every page. There is nothing in this book that could be left out. The growth of the FMC is incredible to watch and heartwarming to see. Also, I think one thing that should be said about this book is DRAGON. The dragon and the bond between the dragon and rider is amazing. The magic system is also very interesting, it's elemental but with a twist! I love this book and can't wait to dive into book #2 when it comes out!!
Audiobook: This was my first experience with this author's work, and I thought it was very entertaining. The story featured one of my favorite tropes that of a marriage of convenience. I admired the worldbuilding. I liked Adalina who was fiery and independent, and I liked Callum who was strong and personable. I appreciated the circuitous route their relationship underwent as they learned to trust one another. I loved the dragon and the magical system. I was entertained by Shannon Parker Taing's narration as she provided different voices for the various characters, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a complimentary copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
Loved this book-it kept my attention and while I figured out pretty quick who was the traitor, there were still things I didn’t expect that happened. Wonderful world building and I enjoyed the back and forth banter between the two main characters Caellum and Adalina. Electtra and Adalina had a beautiful relationship and I loved that their attitudes were so similar because of their connection- they were both spit-fires!
I read the advanced e- arc and am leaving my honest opinion of this book.
Loved it!! This is the first book I’ve read from this author and she did not disappoint! I love that the FMC is strong willed and determined, even when it can be frustrating, it makes it relatable. The fact that her one night stand was the Prince had me HOWLING! It was so funny and I was so excited to see that play out, as well as the journey of their relationship and the battles (literally) they go through. I can’t wait to see where else this author takes us with Kenna!

A lovely mix medieval fantasy and Avatar the last Airbender WITH a dragon! I really enjoyed this one even though life got in the way and it took me a bit to read! Definitely looking forward to read more from this author 🫶🏻
(If the author sees this, im sorry it took so long to read 😅😅 I tried to find you online)
This is a fantasy romance book. A girl who mets a prince and gets to ride a dragon. It’s entertaining and full of adventure. The chemistry between the two main characters is incredibly strong. This story charmed me throughout and I can’t wait to continue the adventure with the next book.
Amazingly written. This is the second series I’ve started by Wallace and I love how different the stories isn’t he series are. If you like dragons this book is definitely for you! An amazing story about trials and triumphs and working together in unlikely teams
I was thoroughly enthralled with the entirety of this book! The characters were enchanting, the plot was great, and it was unique in its own way, which is a rarity these days. I look forward to reading more from this author & reading the next book.
This was definitely one of my favorite audiobooks in this year. It is hard to find good books that are new stories, new plots and new characters but this had it all. If you like dragons you get dragons if you like romance, it had romance. It was a fast pace Story that is good for Romantasy lovers!
When I first started this book it took me a bit to get into it However, once the story started rolling out it was great. I didn’t want to put it down, I didn’t want it to end, and it was overall great.
It got quite boring and repetitive towards the end. The misunderstanding and underestimating was just too much however it is still a good read I guess.
