Rate this book
When his fiancé, Brooklyn, died, Tatum Teague left the world he knew behind. He moved to a new city, started a new career, and turned his back on everything he held dear after she was killed. Now, nearly seven years have passed, and everything is finally starting to feel normal for him. No more flashbacks and fewer dreams. Just the scars remain, or so he thinks.

And then, Tatum receives a mysterious letter in the mail from Brooklyn enticing him back to Auvent Falls, Washington. The letter includes her engagement ring, the ring he was certain was on her finger when she was buried.

Tatum goes home, back to where everything started. Back to the Falls, where danger and evil lurk everywhere he turns. How far must Tatum go to seek the truth? Will he ever discover what truly happened that day seven years ago?

I’m currently reading “The Wringler: A Letter from Home” by Daniel Swarthourt. It’s a supernatural thriller that is well written with good pacing. Great cliffhangers between storylines that sometimes made me glare at the book. . .but it also kept me reading.
The story follows Tatum, a young man who goes NC with everyone following the death of his fiance, Brooklyn. After seven years, as his new life starts to feel normal, he receives a letter from Brooklyn, calling him back home. The letter contains her engagement ring, which had been buried with her.
It’s a supernatural thriller with danger lurking everywhere as Tatum tries to find the truth behind Brooklyn’s death. While he’s searching for the truth, a detective works to solve a brutal murder of a woman and understand the circumstances behind his partner’s death.
The book has a lot of characters and each chapter is named from the POV character, which helps keep the story lines straight. We see how this creepy entity wrecks havoc and discord in the lives of those surrounding Tatum and even people he doesn’t know. BTW, if you don’t fall in love with Tatum’s beloved dog, Cherokee, you are not my people.
If you like knowing more about the authors, I first heard Daniel on The Confessionals podcast, Episode 683 “The Curse of Zany.” I don’t often make spontaneous purchases, but I went immediately to Amazon and bought “The Wringler: A letter from Home” and have no regrets. This is a great book especially if you really like speculative/faith-filled fiction.

This book is one from a local author to my area who I just so happened to know of. When I started seeing the advertisements and the talk of this book on social media, I KNEW I had to get my hands on it. I was completely swept off my feet, and fell in love with the story. I fell in love with the characters, and everything about this book. Knowing there will have to be another makes me excited! If I can influence anyone to pick this book up, who probably is on the fence. DO IT. You will not regret it, and I hope that you enjoy as much as I did. This is not a typical book I would reach for, but after this it made me dip my hands into yet, another genre. Well written, and I cannot wait to see book number 2 come to life in the future! 🙏🏼🤞🏼

Unfortunately this book did not hold my attention at all. I did find this to be a very slow at the beginning and it really didn't pick up for me until at least half way through. Also, there are too many characters for my personal liking. I do like the shorter chapters - I read a lot and have a hard time putting a book down in the middle of a chapter so the shorter chapters are a plus! I do plan on reading more books by this author - I enjoy his writing and how descriptive he is.

This book was good! Had me pulled in and I seriously couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next. The ending is a cliffhanger and I’m hoping is a hint he’s working on the series, like don’t leave me hanging sir…. Please ☺️!

One of those rare books that completely pulls you in from the first chapter and refuses to let go. The plot is masterfully constructed—layered, intense, and genuinely keep you on your toes. It’s gripping without being chaotic, suspenseful without being forced.

What truly sets The Wringler apart, though, is how Swarthout weaves deeper truths into the narrative. He speaks clearly and powerfully about Christ and following Him, but in a way that feels natural and authentic to the story. It’s never preachy or heavy-handed. The message resonates because it’s lived out in the plot—not delivered as a lecture.

The character development is rich and believable, the pacing is tight, and the emotional depth adds weight to every twist and revelation. This is a book that entertains, challenges, and encourages all at once.

If you’re looking for a story that combines compelling suspense with meaningful spiritual truth—without ever feeling “in your face”—The Wringler is an absolute must-read. Highly, highly recommend.
