This collection of stories of 17 outstanding Mormon women was great to read and understand things from a woman's perspective. There were several I had heard of previously and many new women who I learned about and admire now. Borrowed the book from my mom.
Written nearly 30 years ago, which might account for the less than appealing title. It's another book that's been on my shelf for probably that long. But it's an interesting collection of short bios of early pioneer women who'd left enough information about their lives to be fascinating accounts. However, I hope I never have to work as hard as they did . . . .
Felt a little forced and some seemed like they might have been personal ancestors of the writers. But others were truly remarkable and deserved more than the 2.5 pages used to tell their story. I think the tone was too academic, the research limited, and the engagement minimal. Could have been improved on.
Incredibly interesting true stories of pioneer girls lives up to the time of their death. Each chapter is dedicated to a particular women and her experiences . The stories are inspiring as well as entertaining. Leonard Arrington and Susan Arrington Madsen wrote this as an easy read. I recommend this book to anyone interested in American history. I also think children would love to hear these stories.
I am really enjoying this book. It gives a short synopsis of various women's lives who lived during the restoration. It focuses on young women and children, and usually those you haven't heard much about. I am finding it very inspiring.
One of the most inspiring books I've ever read. It was a quick, easy, and compelling read. I learned so much about the struggles, triumphs, and faith of these pioneer women. Left mr feeling so grateful.
