First of all, let me say this: I will miss Lorna, Heather, and Vivien, and those who joined them afterwards. And I will deeply miss Julia, especially the 1920 version!
This last book stars a deeply traumatised Cynthia, a woman who, despite a lot of limiting beliefs (or disbeliefs), aims to do good by helping others not to fall into the clutches of those like the woman who took advantage of her grieving mother. I admit that, at the start, I came close to shutting the book down because of Cynthia's attitude, difficult to fathom for this Psychic Empath and one who has always known that real psychic abilities exist.
But I gave her a chance. And I liked Josh, the main man in the book.
I was not disappointed.
In the end, as with all of the books in this series, the feeling of togetherness, of friendship, of family-outside-the-family, kept me glued to the pages until the end, from suspense to the deep female friendships to budding love.
Michelle M. Pillow The Eighth Potion: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Romance Novel (Order of Magic Book 7) Cynthia and Josh Great story! I'm sad this book concludes the series.

Cynthia Clarkson is on a mission to assure people ghosts do not exist and those who say they do and pretend to contact them are just stealing your money. She should know since a fake psychic scammed her mother out of her retirement funds. And she felt responsible to get the truth out there. If she saved even one person from those scammers, it was worth it.
Eating alone at a Tex-Mex place, an attractive man came up to her table. He introduced himself as Josh Adler and he had attended her lecture. She wanted to be alone right now, but his eyes looked desperate so she invited him to sit. Then two women came over when they recognized her and tried to shame her for doubting. They told her there was a group of mediums and they knew things no one could know, so they were “legitimate”. The group was in Freewild Cove, South Carolina, and they would prove Cynthia was wrong. Then the two women walked away. Josh had still not told her why he had come over and joined her. So he passed her his phone and showed her a picture of him on the couch with a costumed guy standing behind him looking like a devil, but it was difficult to see details. Then Josh told her he had been alone. He flipped from picture to picture and the figure seemed to move across the frames behind him. But again, he claimed he had been alone. He had other pictures from different places and the same figure was in those as well. She continued to claim they were fake, so he paid for her dinner and thanked her for her time.
After doing some research, Cynthia went to Freewild Cove. Her target was the old Warrick Theater owned by a woman known to con others. Now it was owned by Heather Warrick Harrison, a relative. The women Cynthia watched on the dark stage finally spoke up to say nothing was there now, but their client is definitely being haunted, ending by saying, “You’re not crazy, Josh.” Josh had been with Cynthia when those other women told her about this place. She didn’t think he would seek their services. It was her fault he was here looking for the help she refused to offer at that time and now was being deceived. But Cynthia might be wrong about the supernatural. Things start to happen to her, but the women gifted with supernatural powers will help as Cynthia’s strong opinions are challenged. Are the women the “real thing”? And are her developing feelings for Josh real as well?
**MINOR SPOILERS** This is book is in the Order of Magic series. I recommend reading the series in order. It makes more sense when you have read each story. In addition, it makes the overall story seem more robust. This is more of a novella than a book. It is a very quick read. At the beginning of the book, Cynthia is a speaker and author on the subject of debunking people who are psychics, mediums, etc. Her mother had been defrauded by a fake medium and lost all of her money. Cynthia has investigated and exposed many others in the meantime. At the beginning of the book, she is speaking at a conference and is approached by Josh and asked about a spirit that seems to be following him. Cynthia believes it is trickery. She overhears someone tell Josh to ask the women of the previous books in the series about this problem. Cynthia decides to investigate them. I did not feel much sympathy or connection with Cynthia. She seemed very closed off and judgmental. I agree that there are charlatans out there but she is quickly dismissive and her handling of people who approach her could have been better. She meets the characters from previous books but feels suspicious of them as she does of everyone. I enjoyed seeing the characters from previous books, however, there are now so many characters in the series that everything felt superficial. Like in the other books, the romance in the book is too quick. I would not describe the book as a romance per se. The story is more about Cynthia and Josh overcoming what was going on their lives. I probably will not continue the series. I enjoyed it so far but it is becoming too repetitive and lacks substance.
Cynthia Clarkson has led a harsh life. Finding out about her past made me cry. She has written books about how tarot readers and other mediums, etc. are all just con artists, because that is what happened to her mom after her dad’s death. She debunks those charlatans and hunts to find more to debunk. She meets Josh Adler, who has pictures on his phone of something demonic looking. Cynthia has been having nightmares ever since her mom took her with to the meetings with the medium. Since she believes there is no such thing as the supernatural, she brushes Josh off and he and she overhears women talking about Warrick Theater in Freewild Cove, South Carolina and how they got help there. Both Josh and Cynthia end up there and things go to heck in a hand basket once they are there at the theater. I loved seeing all the gals from the other books there. I missed seeing their significant others tho as this book is a doozy. Yep, the thing on Josh’s phone is real. That’s all I’m saying. I spent the entire book chewing on my nails and muttering under my breath with worry. I swear, even my chest felt congested, like a cat was sitting on my chest, but I wasn’t even laying down! lol. I really got into the book and I have loved this whole series. I don’t want it to be over.

Cynthia is sick of gullible, vulnerable, grieving people being taken advantage of by "psychics" or as she calls them - crooks!
When she meets Josh after one of her talks, she poo-poos his story and when they both overhear about a group of psychics in Freewild Cove, they independently go there as their next target for help/debunking.
But Cynthia isn't in town a day before something starts to send her into the path of danger. Josh and the girls are on hand to save her but Cynthia is a tough nut to crack when it comes to accepting the paranormal is real!
I really enjoyed meeting up with this crew of psychics and magic users. Cynthia has a nifty new power that comes in handy when defeating the bad guy. Josh and Cynthia have some quickfire chemistry and he's a man who knows how to distract a lady! As the characters are all over 40, they bring so much experience and a wealth of quirks with them. Cynthia embraces the psychic powers she seems to have "inherited" through another of those mysterious rings. I'm now wondering just how many of them are floating around just waiting on their new owner?
THE EIGHTH POTION is the seventh installment in the Order of Magic series by Michelle Pillow. This is a well-written story with an engaging and intriguing storyline that can be read as a standalone story. You'll enjoy it so much better if you start with Lorna's story in the first book, Second Chance Magic. These heroines will show you that life doesn't end after 40! This story (like the first book) had me turning page after page to see what would happen next. The characters are well-written and the world building well done.
This is Cynthia's story. At a young age she became a doubter of the paranormal, especially mediums and ghosts. Her mother tried to contact her dead husband through a medium, losing all their money and ruining her health. Cynthia has spent her adult life trying to protect others from these fakers that promise connection to the hereafter as they drain your life savings and your hope away. Now Cynthia's in Freewild Cove, South Carolina ready to debunk the frauds she has found there.
This is a moving story of friendship and healing. Even a chance for true love. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this story! While I've listened to a number of Michelle's stories, this is my first in this series. I loved the premise and I was completely fascinated with the angle of the story. Heroine Cynthia doesn't believe in psychics, communicating with the dead, and the supernatural after a "psychic" scammed her mother out of everything after the loss of her father. When a man goes to her for help, she's dismissive of his fears. But when he goes to a group of psychic women, she's determined to prove them frauds and stop them from taking advantage of him and anyone else. But then strange things start to happen...
I was so hooked to this story. Looking out for all the little details and strangeness despite Cynthia's opinions. I liked all the characters. This is definitely a series I would listen to more of.
Rebecca Cook did a good job bringing these characters to life (though I thought one of the women's voices sounded deep enough to be one of Rebecca's male voices), and I liked her for Cynthia. It was great to hear her narrate again as I loved her work on Michelle M. Pillow's Lords of the Abyss series.
This is a continuation of the series and is Cynthia's story. Cynthia is a complete non believer in ghosts and the paranormal and spends her time exposing frauds and speaking to others about the dangers of believing in this. This is mainly due to her unhappy childhood experiences due to her fathers death when she was young and her mother losing everything to a fake medium. Because of this she shuts herself off from others and doesn't trust anyone. When she finds a ring she believes is her mothers and encounters a man named Josh who believes he is haunted by a demon it throws her world into even more chaos. Soon after she finds herself in Freewild Cove where she meets Vivian, Heather,Lorna and others from their group. Will she expose them as the frauds she believes they are or will her eyes be opened to other possibilities. Can they help her overcome her demons both literally and figuratively. Check it out to see.

The Eighth Potion (Order of Magic, #7) by Michelle M. Pillow due 11/21/23 5 stars Cynthia & Josh
Ghosts aren't real--or so she spent her life giving speeches and writing books that say so after watching her mother cheated out of all her money by scam artists promising to let her talk to her dead husband. She's often ridiculed and her life is interrupted by those who disagree with her. When Josh was one of the interrupters she found herself strongly attracted. So much so that she follows him when she learns he is on his way to get help from the ladies in Freewild Cove.
ONLY she finds that maybe she doesn't know all about the supernatural. She and Josh are lucky enough to get real help and friendship from the women. Will they also find more between each other?
Another winner in the author's series includes women over forty who still have lives to live and adventures to find, and even possibly love.
This series is always enjoyable to read. This was a wonderful story in this series that is about Cynthia Clarkson and Josh Adler. I'd was titillated while reading this engaging story with likable characters. This emotional romance revolves around Cynthia who made it her private mission to debunk the paranormal field especially after a psychic scammed her mother. Doing her routine eating at a Mexican restaurant after speaking at a college lecture Cynthia meets Josh who asks to join her. While sitting a couple of women come up to talk how wrong her lecture was. They tell her about Warrick Theater. Josh then shows her pictures of a devil figure haunting him. Cynthia thinks that Josh is faking the pictures. They both go to check out Warrick Theater, one to debunk and one for help from Heather, Vivien, Lorna, and Sue and our ghost grandma Julia in this enjoyable copy that I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
"Please, trust me? A stranger you don’t know instead of these other strangers you don’t know."
Cynthia is logical and rational, and utterly and completely unprepared for one of Julia's rings. (The rings are established in previous books but well explained here, new readers won't be lost.)
Josh is desperately seeking help, when Cynthia turns him away, not understanding his situation he turns to characters from previous books, and Cynthia realizes this may be the kind of misunderstanding that sent a sheep to slaughter, and that's something she can't live with.
Eighth Potion stands nicely on its own, with plenty of memory jogs for anything relevant from the previous books.
I really enjoyed this story about protecting yourself and doing your due diligence, but not closing yourself off from the world in the process.
I was gifted with a copy of The Eighth Potion and chose to share my thoughts.
This was an interesting take on the order of magic series. Cynthia is a non-believer. She is out to take down the fakes. When she hears about the ladies in Freewild Cove, she's on a mission to take them down. But the demons from her past are about to haunt her - literally. Now she goes from feeling invisible all her life, to having a connection with these ladies who all share a ring in common. And a man who's been put in her path of danger. The 6 ladies prior to Cynthia have all believed, but Cynthia's a harder sell.
I wish there had been a better recap of the other ladies stories and more of the men. They were a blip, passing through but not contributing.
That being said, it was a fun story, with a little heat. The romance on the side was sweet. Adding to the Warrick theater, this book is an easy and engaging read.

I love this cast of characters, the story, the writing, and the setting. Even though I’ve only read one other book in this series, I didn’t feel lost. The author gave enough back story throughout that I felt completely caught up. Now I want to go back and binge all the books. I’m not a big fan of insta-love but it worked well for this story. I absolutely loved Josh and Cynthia. They were actually a cute couple. There was just enough spice to keep things interesting. And as always with most Michelle M Pillow books, if not all, the humor and snark were on point. Finally, the narration was phenomenal. Rebecca Cook did great distinguishing between each character’s voice and acting out the story as opposed to just reading it. I felt like I was there in the theater. That’s the difference between a voice actor and a narrator.

I love the concept of “The Eighth Potion” Book 7 of Order of Magic by Michelle M. Pillow. It was very well written and thought out. I love how in this book by Michelle M. Pillow we are back in Freewild Cove where Lorna, Vivien, Heather, and let’s not forget about the help of Grandma Julia’s ghost are back at it again. They’re kicking supernatural butt and taking names but Cynthia Clarkson is determined to prove that they are scam artists who are taking advantage of the people they are claiming to help. But will Cynthia be able to prove that they are con artists or will she end up being the next person that they help since she has a demon after her? I guess that you will have to read “The Eighth Potion” to find out what happens. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I've read each book in this series. This one touched me deeply. I can't explain why, but I had happy tears at the conclusion. I got so caught up in Cynthia's emotions and life, I truly felt for her. To find love after a life time of feeling invisible. Josh, wow! What a man! To stand by Cynthia the way he did. This man had a demon haunting him just to get to her, but he still would take it on to protect her. That's true love. The other characters from the previous books helped lightened the mood, especially the ghost of Grandma Julia and Vivian, Heather's best friend. Those two are wild characters. Each woman brought so much to this story... Lorna, Heather, Vivien, Sue, Nina, and Kari. If you have read the previous books, I recommend it and this one too.

I just love this series and the latest addition is brilliant.
Cynthia doesn’t believe in ghosts or the paranormal, her mother had been scammed years ago and never recovered but when she encounters Josh who cannot explain the things that have been happening to him, suddenly she finds herself inside Warrick Theater.
Cynthia can’t believe the things that start happening to her but finding unexpected friends who are gifted with supernatural powers, slowly her opinions are changing and when they all band together to help, lives are forever changed.
A wonderful magical read with well loved characters, ghosts and a love interest for Cynthia and Josh who get their HEA!.

Inner truth Cynthia the paranormal sceptic makes for a very interesting lead character in a paranormal story. It was quite fascinating watching details from Cynthia’s life unexpectedly connect with Josh and the supposed paranormal charlatans she is investigating. I liked the unexpected supernatural suspense “things” that emerged, blurring the lines between reality and otherworldly. As well, very unique, colourful and just plain funny characters that make up the rest of the story totally made me smile. Although paranormal fantasy in nature, there are titbits of truth in this story that readers can take away. Loved it!.

If you have read the rest of the series it takes you to a familiar place where the ladies pull together and fight the unknown. If you haven’t read the other books in the series be prepared for a wild ride! You won’t be bored for a minute!
This series is so well written! I was prepared to dislike Cynthia because she was a paranormal debunker and had set her sights on the women of Freewild Cove. In actuality she was amazing. She was terrified and she still tried to protect everyone. As usual this book has you biting your nails and reading as fast as you can. You know something is going to happen you just don’t know what it will be. Definitely recommend!

I've only read the first and last of this series, but loved both so much that I went and purchased all the rest of them... and plan to re-read this one after I'm done with them!
The story revolves around Cynthia, a true pragmatist and debunker of all things paranormal, and Josh, a who believes... because he's being haunted. They both wind up in Freewild Cove, she to give a lecture; he, to get her thoughts on his haunting.
What ensues is a tale of hijinks, hilarity and hope... with a side of sexy and a ladel of love.
I've always enjoyed Michelle M. Pillow's books; but this series has a special something that keeps me addicted. Love, love, love it!!!.

Been awhile but delighted to read book 7 in this series and each story builds on the other with a different woman's story. The women in these books have great strength and courage to overcome obstacles and challenges in their life as they get drawn to Pebble Cove and embark on their own unique magical supernatural mystery. The books are full of great characters (the cast of women I just love and want them to be my gathering of women friends), unique magical adventure, good banter, laughs, romance and HEA cozy outcome. Great series to escape to, laugh, maybe even a tear or two and totally enjoyable fun with magical element. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Eighth Potion (Book 7 of Order of Magic) by Michelle Pillow is a paranormal suspense novel. There is romance in this book too but it is not the main topic. I really enjoyed the plot in this book. A woman who is on mission to stop all psychics but has she finally met the real thing. This is also the last book in the series so a lot of things are answered too.
After Cynthia’s mom was scammed out of all her money by a fake psychic she has been on the hunt to stop them. On her path to her latest one she meets Josh. Her latest psych group shows signs they may be the real deal which has her questioning everything about her mission and herself.
This was a great conclusion and I am sad it is ending. However I am excited for whatever is next.
This seventh book in this series from Michelle M. Pillow focuses on the stories of Cynthia and Josh who are both new to Freewild Cove. I like the overall story to these books and it’s interesting seeing how Ms. Pillow comes up with new stories for the different couples. Cynthia is a woman hurt but by a fake psychic not a man like in most of the other tales but she does bring along a man called Josh who happens to bring along a demon. Oops. The story is an easy, fun read and I rather hope that we hear from this couple again in new books.

This was a great paranormal story where one of the main characters thinks that anyone who deals in the paranormal are con artists/scammers. Carolyn has made it her life mission to prove it due to past.
Josh is being haunted and goes to see Carolyn for help. She doesn’t believe him and sends him on his way. Carolyn learns about some women in Freewild Cove and goes to prove they are frauds. There she finds Josh. Unfortunately what happens next goes a long way to changing her mind.
Loved this one and going back to see all of our favorite characters from this series. And Julia never disappoints when she is around.
Cynthia is out to prove ghosts or the paranormal are not real. Her mother was scammed and never recovered. One evening while eating at a restaurant Josh comes up to her and askes to join her. Two women also come and ask to talk to her. They had been at her lecture and tell her her thoughts on the paranormal are wrong. hey tell her about Warrick Theater. Josh then shows her pictures of a devil figure haunting him. Cynthia thinks that Josh is faking the pictures. Soon Cynthia can’t believe the strange things that start happening to her. But even stranger she meets new friends, ones who have supernatural gifts. Slowly Cynthia finds her opinions changing.

Cynthia Clarkson is determined to expose the fake psychics, mediums, and tricks used to cheat grieving people out of their money, and leave them in worse emotional shape than they started with. She meets Josh after one of her lectures, and refuses to listen to, let alone believe his story. She heads to Freewild Cove to investigate a rumored group of psychics, and finds Josh there as well. Her interaction with this group is an eye-opener. This is a cleverly written exciting story full of magic, doubt, and discovery. It is brought to life by Rebecca Cook’s entertaining narration. I received a free copy of this audiobook and voluntarily reviewed it.
This is a great addition to the series. Cynthia absolutely does not believe in ghosts or anything supernatural. She spends her time debunking frauds. She and Josh both end up in Freewild Cove at the Warrick Theater. This group of more mature women kick a**! (As Vivien says) This whole series will grab your attention and keep you reading. The characters are so diverse and interesting and the storylines do not lag. I love the whole series.

Cynthia was most definitely a non-believer when it came to people who say that they can contact the dead. At a cost of course. Her mother was duped of everything she owned by a complete charlatan. Cynthia has dedicated her life to exposing these people. After being approached by a man at a restaurant and being harassed by a couple of women at the same time, she decides to investigate some so called psychics that these women suggested to the man. Without telling the whole story, she comes to the realisation that she might be wrong.
