Six sheep return from being sleepy to go trick or treating on a Halloween night. They encounter gaggles, warrens, herds, and more as they tiptoe through the shadowy night only to end up with all their friends at a Halloween party. Lots of rhythm and rhyme. A tongue-twisting, read-aloud Halloween story that even your toddler can handle, Six Creepy Sheep is one in the series of Six Sleepy Sheep books. The book follows the tale of six sheep who go out for some spooky trick-or-treating fun, but are scared at every turn and with every noise. The use of alliteration helps give a poetic slant to the text, and the phrase, "Then, on little sheep feet, six creepy sheep went a-haunting" is repeated with each sheep disappearance, allowing the reader to have an idea of what will happen next (making it less scary). You will laugh at the silliness of the sheep.
This book is very sweet, the art is beautiful and intricate, and the counting motif works well. However, one of the groups that the sheep encounter are dressed as hobos. It is unfortunate that out of a world of choices, the authors chose poverty as a costume for this sweet children's Halloween book.
The sheep dress as ghosts and are off to trick or treat, however one by one they run away as they encounter other frightening costumed trick or treaters. This was an ok book, but the counting concept that is tied to it is very weak.
Thiss book covers counting and the correct names for various groups of common animals. There is also a fun guessing element embedded in the lovely illustrations. One of the halloween costumes in the story is 'hobo,' which was an unfortunate choice that sullied an otherwise charming book for me.
It's Halloween, so the sheep slip on costumes, hoping to score some tasty treats. But it's a spooky world out there, and as they meet other mysterious creatures, their courage is tested in a frightening countdown.
If you were hoping for something complex and very spooky, I don't know what you're doing reading counting books for preschoolers. For what it was trying to do, it was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed the illustrations a lot. It's a fun one to bring out in October.
Cute Halloween story for the preschool set. Six sheep go out trick-or-treating dressed as ghosts and one by one the sheep get scared off by other trick-or-treaters and run away. My kids (5 and almost 3) only asked to read this once, but my little one had fun trying to guess the type of animal dressed up in each costume.
It’s not a great book because it’s not lively or engaging. Some reviewers take offense at the hobo costumes. Let’s not forget about the amazing history of hobos in America that dates back to post Civil War. Many of them traveled and worked at many jobs including building railroads, and lived as hobos by choice, such as Jack London.
Six sheep decide to go trick or treating dressed up as ghosts. One by one they get scared....by...pirates, fairies, hobos, goblins and witches until one is left to trick or treat at the -- surprise -- party barn. This kids counting book has colorful illustrations and a nice surprise ending were kids can try to find the ghost sheep in the crowd at the party.
I loved the animals in their costumes and how they were described ("gaggle of goblins" and such). Great laugh there. It had a bit og a 5 Little Monkeys thing going on as sheep kept leaving one by one. And a lot of repetitiveness. Would work for PreK, but not K-4.
We read this awhile back from the library. It wasn't the best book mainly because the counting backwards from five or ten has been done to death. But, we can never have enough Halloween books and for 50 cents can you really go wrong?
this book is an up and out book u read it up you take it back it's out it was mostly about 6 crazy sheep but i won't tell u more yall have to explore////??????????????????????????////
The descriptive jargon used in this book was a treat, but a few elements such as "they whisked by a warren of witches" was a little beyond my 4 yr olds comprehension.
