Dream job – check.
Dream apartment – nearly check.
Super-hot fae boyfriend – Uh, she’ll have to get back to you on that one.

At age 29, good girl, Holly Briar, thought she’d have it all by now. After all, everything else on her metaphorical (and physical) list is checked off, but she’s still very much lacking in the love dept. When her crush makes it clear he’s looking for a partner with more bedroom experience, Holly embarks on a mission to find someone willing to teach her exactly what fae men are into.

Borderlands’ most notorious rake has a problem. Goldie needs to design a new video game that will appeal to humans, or risk losing his job. The trouble is, he hates humans. Everything about them. Especially their incessant need for love and their stiflingly short lifespans. But there’s a new girl at work. She’s human, and she knows what will sell a game to her kind. And she has a little problem that only Goldie can solve.

Reluctantly the pair come to an agreement to help each other out. But on one condition . . .
Under no circumstances, whatsoever, are either of them allowed to fall in love.

By the Fae is the 2nd book in the Fantasy Flatmates series. It can also be read as a stand alone.

First of all, one of the catchiest first lines in a book I've ever seen! Attention grabbed immediately. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions and I enjoyed every minute of it. After the first few chapters I wasn't sure if I was going to like the MMC very much, but he slowly took control of my heart as the book went on. And I'm happy to say that now I am in love! Though there was a short period of time towards the end that I wanted to give him a few well placed punches (IYKYK).

If you love the grumpy/sunshine trope, a broody and smart ass MMC, adorkable FMC, cute and funny side characters, and a HEA (eventually) then run to read this!

I can't wait to get more from this author and these characters. (I'm already partially, but really mostly, in love with Dima and need more of him NOW.)

Even funnier, romancier, smarter, and sweeter than the first!

It’s hard to say what I love more about this masterful work of romantic comedy: the laugh-out-loud humor; the fun found-family banter; the adorable romance; the utterly brilliant parallels to video game storytelling; the achingly sweet and tender moments; or the spiiiicy spice scenes. Right from the start, this book grabs you by the funny bones and drags you in, laughing, sighing, crying, and cheering all the way. It’s truly the perfect blend of funny and tender, romantic and smart, sexy and sweet.

Cannot WAIT for the next adventure!

Goldie and Holly have completely stolen my heart. Goldie is such a turd! He is grumpy and rude, but he is actually the sweetest. How dare he make me fall in love with him like that? I was expecting a lot of laughs and for him to totally eat his words about never falling in love with a human, and instead, I cried my way through a good 15% of the book. Holly is just so sweet, and I love her dungaree obsession. Her slow realization is that she is in love with Goldie...Ahhh!!
This was just the perfect book. I loved every second of reading it. You get moments with the flatmates (I love every single one so much), and I love that while the book had me sobbing, it was still sweet and cozy. Honestly, I may have liked this as much, if not more, than By the Pint, and I am obsessed with that book!

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Somehow even better than the first, By the Fae was easily a five star read. The enemies with benefits, s*x lessons, fated mates, and interspecies relationships are all amazing tropes and were executed beautifully. The chemistry, the pining, the angst was electric. Getting a feature from Peaches and Horns was a huge highlight. And the game development plot was *chefs kiss* The ending had me squealing. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this world.

Captivating Banter and Emotional Depth. Just finished reading this gem and I'm absolutely blown away. The dynamic between Goldie and Holly is nothing short of amazing. Holly, accomplished in so many aspects of her life, yet yearning for self-empowerment and genuine connections. Enter Goldie, seemingly having life all figured out, but the assistance he offers comes with unexpected consequences. This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions – I laughed, I cried (ugly tears and all), and I found myself utterly invested in every turn of their journey. And can we talk about their sizzling sexual chemistry? It was off-the-charts!
Major shoutout to the author for creating such a beautifully woven story. I'm left eagerly anticipating more. It's a story that lingers, making you reflect on life's twists and turns. And can we talk about Dima? What an extraordinary character! Here's hoping for a book dedicated to Dima's journey. A girl can absolutely dream, right?

Another sexy sweet couple by Jemma Croft??? Yes please!! This book was unlike any other I’ve read before. I LOVED the characters, a true grumpy/sunshine AND they make video games together??? The spice was on FIRE — “teach me” indeed. Yet Croft never fails to grab us by the heart strings too! The characters are endearing and relatable and watching them grow together is satisfying in more ways than one ;) Jemma Croft is an autobuy author for me—my newest favorite for fantasy rom com.

I love the humor Jemma captures in her writing. Her first book, By the Horns, was amazing, but I think I preferred this one! By the Fae is HILARIOUS and cute. It was so easy and quick to read.

I was very happy that the author sent me an ARC of this wonderful book. 😄

We are again in the town of Remy and follow the story of Goldie, who is a fae, and Holly, who is a human and has a great love for dungarees. Of course, at the start, the couple cannot stand each others at all, but later that changes. 😁
They work as game developers and will be forced to work together on a game that will appeal to people as well as other magical beings. After they make a deal that they will help each other, Holly wants help seducing a fae who works with them, and Goldie needs a help with game development and getting a tenure.

The deal they conclude has certain conditions that they must respect. One of the main ones is that they must not fall in love with each other. 😆

It's an understatement to say that I liked the story. I enjoyed everything; action, world building was perfect and the spice was sooooo good 🔥🔥🔥.
Goldie is a fae you just can't help but love.
And here is a quote that will surely convince you to read this book;
❤️❤️“You’ve stolen my heart, my every waking thought, and every single one of my dreams.”❤️❤️

I hope that Dima will get his story next because I just LOVE him so much. 🥰

This story was equal parts sweet and spicy.

'By the Fae' was everything I hoped the second book in this series would be, and more.
A charming enemies to lovers romantic comedy that had me laughing, smiling, swooning and back to laughing. Effortless humor from the very first page and a whole found family of relatable characters that you can't help but love.
I was determined that there couldn't possibly be a couple to rival Joey and Taurin but I was happily proven wrong, because I was so quickly captivated by Holly and Goldie. I enjoyed the way in which their stories intertwined as we moved through the novel, and the parallels between the video game world and their relationship.
There is a higher level of spice compared to the first book, but the plot and character arcs allowed for it without it feeling out of place. The spice is very well written and fits seamlessly into the story.
The fantasy world that we have been introduced to in the Fantasy Flatmates series is so fascinating and unique. The perfect backdrop for these wonderful characters and their stories.

I cannot wait to see where Jemma takes this series next!

Goldie is a nymph determined to never suffer the pain of falling in love with a being with a shorter lifespan than his. He’s content sleeping his way through The Borderlands and designing the latest in the hit video game franchise, Magic Thief Seven. Until his boss tells him that things are changing - he needs to incorporate humans into his next game, and she’s hired a human game designer to help.

Holly has always been fascinated by the fae, so she’s scored her dream job by being the first human hire at a well-known game design company. The only downside is she has to spend the next eight weeks shadowing another senior designer, and none of them want to work with a lowly human, not even her crush, Seth.

Goldie and Holly agree to help each other out. Holly will help Goldie with his game, and in return, he’ll help her get the….experience she needs to catch and keep a fae man like Seth.

This story is delicious. I loved Goldie and Holly. It’s rivals to friends to lovers with spice throughout. It’s found family and realizing that the thing you thought you wanted was all wrong. What a gem!

Please this book was so freaking cute, I can't get over how much I love Jemma's writing style and how well she writes rom-com's. On a high from reading book one, I immediately jumped into book two already excited to see where it would take me next.

The world is so easy to understand and learn that it can definitely be read as a standalone, one where the reader pretty much understands what's happening right away. This book follows Holly and Goldie, and let me tell you they are a rollercoaster of cute, fun, and spicy. I loved every moment of this book from start to end because they were perfect for each other and so funny.

Their banter and chemistry were so well written, Jemma made me love them even more by the end. I cannot get enough of this series and Jemma's writing, I cannot want to read more from her. I absolutely loved this book!

Big thanks to Jemma for providing me with an eARC of By the Fae!

If enemies to lovers is my favorite trope, teach me is a close second! I love this! It was so adorably goofy and spicy at the same time. The banter between Goldie and Holly was top notch and I also loved getting to see Holly form bonds with the other flat mates. It is in UK English so there were a few things I had to look up to understand, as well as a few parts where if I hadn’t known that I would think they were typos, so just be prepared and keep that in mind, but they were only minor bits. I didn’t read By the Horns first and I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, but it did make me want to go read Taur and Joeys story for sure!

This book...is just amazing!
I loved By the Horns it was cute and fun.
By the Fae had me on an emotional roller-coaster, and I adored every second of it!
Also, the spice is SPICING!
I had to set my kindle down a couple of times during the first spicy scene, because it GOT me.
If you adore tropes like enemies to lovers, grumpy sunshine, and intense bedroom praise kinks, this is the book for you!
Go read the first book, and then read this one!
DO IT!!

I absolutely cannot recommend this book enough. Jemma has done it again with By the Fae. I just love this world that she has created with all of the Fantasy Flatmates. I also read By the Horns which was good but I thought this one was amazing. I loved the story, it was a roller coaster of emotions and I couldn’t put the book down. Something about these books just feels like a warm hug. A warm hug with spice. The best kind honestly. Haha. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the Flatmates in the future!

I absolutely loved this book! It combined my favourite fantasy aspects into a smutty, adorable romance book. The characters were extremely layered and the book kept me hooked the entire way! I finished it in 3 hours 🫶🏼

I wish goodreads allowed you to put half stars, because I would definitely rate it a 4.5! I just wish it was more of a slow burn, but other than that, I fricken loved it ❤️❤️

A fun summer read! I have not read Book 1, so was a little behind the curve on character dynamics but still very easily read as a standalone. The female MC is sweet and the Male MC is the right combo of arrogant and self aware. The pacing is good - and I have zero knowledge of gaming and wasn’t left wondering what’s going on. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable story. Would recommend!

Oh my god, I loved this book. I just couldn't put it down and have now ended up sacrificing sleep over it.

I really enjoyed Joey and Taur's book but Holly and Goldie? They have surpassed them. They were cute, funny, sexy. I want a grumpy gamer fae now too.

I loved every second of this book. I'm already excited for what Jemma Croft is going to bring out next and this one hasn't even hit the shelves yet!

Thanks to Jemma for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review

By the Fae by Jemma Croft is book two in the Fantasy Flatmates Series. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author and I absolutely loved it. This book was amazing, it immediately pulled me in within the first couple chapters and it had me hooked until the end. I read this book in one sitting, never once wanting to put my kindle down. (It’s is the second book but it can be read as a standalone which is what I did) But after how much I enjoyed this book, I’m definitely going to read the first one as well. This was a phenomenally written romantic comedy that had me laughing out loud while having some top tier spice. Also don’t even get me started on the sweet/tender moments! Jemma Croft is a fantastic writer, the descriptions were so good I could imagine everything I was reading. I absolutely loved the characters and the dynamics of them. I can’t wait to read more books from Jemma; a new favorite author.

I received this book as an ARC and I had been in a bit of a reading slump, I even tried to start this book a few times before I got in to it, but let me tell you, I am SO glad I did. This book has had me by a bit of a chokehold, it somehow had me knowing what was going to happen yet still surprised me and would tug at my heart strings at every turn. It’s set up pretty straight forward “enemies to lovers that aren’t supposed to fall in love but they do anyways” but the execution of the storyline is phenomenal. Also the fact that Holly is obsessed with Tapirs is so cute, if you’ve never seen them before I recommend googling them so you can fully understand how quirky Holly is.

Fantastic romcom!

I adored this book! Super sweet and spicy! Adorably charming romcom, grumpy/sunshine, found family, fated mates, and ALL the banter!

The spice was spicing: 5/5

I usually have such a hard time staying engaged with romcoms and find a lot of them to be kind of corny, but I adore Jemma’s style and she has converted me into a huge fan! I literally cannot remember the last time I laughed so much while reading. Goldie and Holly are precious, and the flatmates fam is amazing as always. This was such a fun book!

Looking forward to reading future books by Jemma!

Although this story was rather predictable, I still loved it. I genuinely like the characters and the realm they all live in. Honestly, my dream is to live in a fantasy world so I'm a sucker for anything related to fantasy or the supernatural lol Honestly...I'd like more books with other fantasy species(? Would that be the correct term? lol) because I love this realm.
I love Holly a little more than mostly because she's not a curvy bombshell like Joey. Both beautiful but Holly is more relatable. I think I love this book more because of that.

This was SO CUTE

It had me cackling quite a bit. Really loved Goldie's pov too he was sooooo delulu 😆

Really enjoyed the obsession with dungarees hahaha
Loved the nerdiness and the dynamics of everyone's relationships. This was true romCOM 💜

I've read this out of sequence btw so I had not a clue going in as I haven't read Horns yet and the flatmates were fun to see their dynamic.

Snort of laughter

This well written book of R rated comedy surprising contains more jokes about not "doing it" than the doing of it. Absolutely hilarious! I almost fell off my chair upon hearing the "Golden Rule".
Appreciate the author's recipe list at the beginning, so no reader is caught by surprise.

Cute, fun, funny, and steamy!!

So freaking good!!!! Jemma Croft, however, does an amazing job at creating a world that blends fantasy and modern. This book is cute, funny, and steamy, without the spicy scenes becoming redundant. 200/ 10 recommend. I am more than super excited for the next books in this series. I also recommend By the Horns, Jemma Croft's first book in this series.
