The biggest lore developments so far as we meet the 'resistance', find out what happened to all the past characters now that we're in the future, and get at least a bit of an idea of what's going to be happening in the immediate future.

It’s good to see things take a hopeful turn this edition! I was worried for our main heroes! All of the pieces are finally coming together.

Listen I wanted to like Psyren, I really did. I was really taken in by its setting made more interesting by the mystery. But I’m starting to think that the shonen market is all about the vending machine effect, where what’s predictable sells. This made me a little sad because the author had a lot to say about books he reads and I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt that he has the taste to pull off a good story. Yet though either the pressure of his publisher or overabundance of characters to lasso a plot around, Psyren falls into the broad demographic of drab shonen that doesn’t impress me.
If it has one thing going for it it’s the premise. Psyren’s setting and stories are nestled between the venn diagram of Bleach and the Matrix. Except all of the action is Bleach and none of the thinking is the Matrix. Yet the mystery that’s initially set up of the contemporary world being so different from the Psyren wasteland was really compelling and hooked me to the story. I was at first impressed with the characters fixing time in the past present and present future, but that quickly waned after the characters had less of a reason to do it more for the sake of the plot than for themselves. And the semblance of characterization that was there consisted more of archetypes than substantial players of the game. The character models and designs are all really sharp and cool but didn’t add much more to the story, and that’s the story that was squeezed between explosions that took up whole and chapters.
The severe lack of motive is something I found made the books really flat overall. Save the world because you should save the world. Yet it sets up a whole mess of characters you don’t care if Ageha saves or not. Everyone he’s fighting to save he shared a comedic moment, brodown, boob grab or info dump in response to a question. The books never give the characters time to simmer and build on each other and the point of the series seems moot if that’s what we’re given. It had potential all the way through to elaborate on some interesting storylines, yet the final result is so top heavy from its characters it’s hard to say any of them were worth reading. I would say it’s worth reading if you’re looking for something different in shonen, even if it isn’t super different. But it certainly didn’t show me that the genre has mature or thoughtful stories to tell, but just gave me more pointy-haired high school sword flingers saving the world.

Psyren takes place a carefully constructed world and its overarching plot continually builds chapter by chapter. Don't start here - it really must be read from the beginning.
W.I.S.E. finds Ageha intriguing and has decided to "invite" him to accompany them back to headquarters, assuming Dolkey doesn't kill him first. The stakes keep getting raised with each subsequent trip to Psyren and the situation here is dire. There are several phenomenal twists and reveals here that are seamlessly integrated with the action and progressing story lines. The potential effects of time travel and the associated themes and dilemmas underlying this volumes developments are fascinating and the implications will certainly continue to be felt throughout the series. And in a volume filled with surprises, the biggest was saved to the end and serves as a riveting hook for the next installment.
One of my favorite volumes of Psyren yet. Highly recommended.

I love the Psyren series and this volume did not disappoint.
This volume catches us up on all the changes made to the future.
I've been waiting for a Dolkey battle - a real one and boy did we get one delivered! New abilities and some real damage being spread around. Love the changes to history! The Elmore gang in action is a thing to behold, though I'm now on tenderhooks - how many volumes will it take to resolve! shiner is the one that keeps on kicking too, love it! These guys are mega and we aren't to the big guns yet! Love the re intro of some old faces, though some are missing...
The ending is a cliffhanger with Nemesis Q - maybe we'll finally learn more about the mysterious figure...?

There's no escaping it, the star of Vol. 8 is the appearance in the future - in psyren - of some characters I never expected to see there. They have news - once again, history has been changed. Slowly but surely our main characters are doing it. But along the way, others have been lost.
The first half of this book is essentially a protracted but pretty satisfying fight scene. The second half is finally explaining a lot of what happened - how the world got destroyed, who's left and how things have changed. And at the end... who should show up but their enemy? friend? Nemesis Q.

welcome back children!
the moment when i saw kyle all grown up and alive was wonderful, like for real, this manga gets grim and i had no idea how they were going to make it out
and then! alive children!! alive and adorable children on top of that, they were so happy to see ageha, it was beautiful
nahh you're not getting any interesting critical insights out of me this volume
just my decree that it was some good feelings inspiring stuff. 4 stars

I definitely have a hard time remembering everyone's name, as they're just so many characters introduced in a small amount of time- but other than that- I really do enjoy this series a lot. The plot scheme of it all-- the sucker punch of Psyren and Nemesis Q. It's all driving me crazy with anticipation to keep reading-- but hopefully not too quickly.

It's nice to finally get a lot more detail on Psyren and how it came about. On the other hand, an element of cosmic horror has been introduced to the plot, which I admittedly probably could have seen coming given the weirdness of the Taboo. Not sure how I feel about this, but I'll probably make up my mind once future volumes have revealed more about it.

Psyren is crazy, and I love it. The future keeps changing, and at the conclusion of this volume we're left to wonder about the future of Nemesis Q, the instigator of changing the future (or so we assume). It was especially fun to see the kids all grown up and more powerful than ever. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

I loved the experience this manga gave me while reading. I felt a part of myself was in the pages.
