NY Times Bestselling author Jennifer Ashley writes historical, contemporary, and paranormal romance, historical mysteries, and urban fantasy as Jennifer Ashley, Allyson James, and Ashley Gardner.
I love a good Christmas anthology, and Ten Lords for the Holidays did not disappoint.
This is a bundle of historical novellas, most very light on the spice, but very enjoyable reads.
As an avid reader of historical romance, and one who picks up pretty much any Christmas themed anthology from year to year, I was familiar with a number of stories in this selection, but many of them were favourites so rereading them was a pleasure.
This book includes:
A First Footer for Lady Jane by Jennifer Ashley I have read this one previously, but I can’t remember which collection it was in. It is a lovely story with a sweet matchmaking grandfather and I’ve enjoyed reading it several times in the past.
Lord Locryn and the Pixie’s Kiss by Deb Marlowe This story was previously published in one of the Castle Keyvnor anthologies. It’s a sweet story about a Pixie whose actions have unexpected consequences for both her and the human she interferes with.
A Duke by Any Other Name by Claire Delacroix This story was also published in one of the Castle Keyvnor anthologies. The Duke of Inverfyre is looking to clear his sisters name and catch a jewel thief, when he finds the woman he is destined to marry.
A Counterfeit Christmas Summons by Ava Stone This is a Duke of Danby novel, in which the heroine is in love with her brother’s best friend, and has been since she was young.
Lady Holly’s Jolly Christmas by Nadine Millard This story was one I had not previously read. It stars a mysterious, matchmaking stranger who shows up to a house party.
Christmas Kisses by Nicole Zoltack This was also a new to me story, it was probably my least favourite, the story seemed very superficial and it seemed like every other female was pregnant by a man who was not her husband or betrothed.
The Duke Wager by Eve Pendleton This was a new to me book, in which the heroine was studying to become a doctor. I really enjoyed this one and appreciated how supportive the hero was of the heroine’s ambitions.
A Prince for Yuletide by Anthea Sharp I had read this story previously, although I don’t recall where. The prince disguises himself to attend a ball, in order to avoid the fallout from his reputation as being made of ice.
Rescued by a Christmas Kiss by Larissa Lyons This was a new story for me, and I loved that some of the book was from the point of view of the hero’s pet cat. I also enjoyed that, although the hero was a shop owner (although he did have aristocratic roots).
Making Merry by Erica Ridley I’m not sure how I missed this book last year when it was published but this is the prequel to the 12 Dukes of Christmas series. I really enjoyed seeing how the town of Cressmouth became the holiday themed town known as Christmas.
If you’re looking for some light Christmas themed romances, you can’t go wrong with this collection.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A wonderful collection of short stories set during the holidays! I read and reviewed two of them:
A Duke by Any Other Name by Claire Delacroix
A truly beautiful novella with a bit of action and mystery and a bit of magic. I laughed quite a lot at the hero’s disguise and I really appreciated the smart and enterprising heroine. Very low on steam, unfortunately, but I can appreciate a tame novella when it's so well written. Delacroix never disappoints!
The Duke Wager by Eve Pendle
A heroine who wants to be a doctor? And is the hero supportive of her goal or is he mocking her? Do they hate each other or…? All legitimate questions that will be answered in this gorgeous novella with a Christmas flavor. I loved both POVs and I laughed at Tamsin’s way of viewing everything through the lens of her medical training… You’ll see what I mean if you get this wonderful book! I love this author and her writing and I wish she wrote full-length books, because I’m always left wanting more!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This delightful collection of historical romance novellas touches on numerous themes, from Pixies and magical interference in the love lives of couples, to second chance stories, to couples overcoming tragedies in their past, to intrigue and mysteries being solved, to deceit and misdirection to mischievous cats! There is truly something for everyone. The stories have various “heat” levels, clearly described in the summaries, but all are well written, with interesting plots and solid HEAs. One of the lovely things about an anthology like this one, is that it gives the reader a chance to taste something written by an author not previously experienced. The reader may just discover a new favorite author! I highly recommend adding this collection to your TBR pile. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
The multi-author Regency Christmas anthology, Ten Lords for the Holidays, is an excellent way to introduce yourself to new authors. As a fan of Claire Delacroix, I picked up this gem even though I had previously read her contribution, A Duke by Any Other Name. Her work is so well done, I enjoyed reading about the fop and the duke hunter all over again. But I also enjoyed the new (to me) authors Jennifer Ashley and Erica Ridley, just to name a few. Every single tale in this collection was delightful. Altogether, it is a wonderful collection that I thoroughly enjoyed. It would make a perfect holiday gift!
What a delightful anthology by some very talented writers! Each story is set during holidays with H's and h's eventuallyfinding their HEA's in intriguing ways. A plus is that in the table of contents each author has identified their story as to heat level. This allows the reader to pick and choose which story to read. But you should pick all of them. It's a great way to start the holidays!
This widely diverse set of Christmas tales has kept me immersed and is a fabulous kick-off to the holidays. Plenty of sighs and laughs with one or two tears to keep it balanced. Even found a few more books to add to my TBR.
The only ones that were any good I already had. The others weren't really interesting. Didn't catch my mnd. Too bad. It took me 4 days to read. I can ready 300 page book in a day..easy.
This is a very enjoyable collection of stories- many of which form parts of other series. This is an excellent chance to try out authors that you may not have previously read
The holidays couldn’t be better. All our favorite authors bring us wonderful Lords, their lives and love stories for their best holiday, Christmas. There is a story for everyone to remember. A great read for by the fireplace.
