At the behest of her ailing mother, former FBI special agent turned rare-book collector Ivy Elliott arrives in Alaska to secure an unpublished Jack London manuscript kept secreted away for decades. But when she arrives, she learns the manuscript is gone--taken by the granddaughter of the woman who possessed it. Ivy sets off in pursuit, not just to save the manuscript but to save the vulnerable girl, who was previously trafficked and has no idea what she's getting herself into.
Joining forces with Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long, Ivy must battle a blizzard, sabotage, and the worst of an Alaskan winter as the search goes on. But every answer they find only raises more questions--and the danger to their lives and to the missing girl may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Hidden in the Night is the third and final book of the Missing in Alaska series. I have enjoyed this series and hate to see it end. The setting and characters with the danger, suspense, and mystery of finding missing people are highpoints of the series. We know Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long from the previous books. He is brother of Shadow Gap police chief Autumn. Ivy Elliott is in Shadow Gap to purchase an unpublished manuscript by Jack London for her mom, going through cancer treatment. Ivy and her mom were in Alaska a year ago when they met Nolan. There was definitely a spark between the two and hasn't gone away. The purchase of the manuscript doesn't happen because a young woman left her grandmother taking it with her. Ivy, a former FBI agent, unite with Nolan to find the girl, manuscript, and answers to what is going on as murders, attacks, and sabotage begin at every turn. Someone is trying to stop Ivy. This is a great addition to the series as the two travel around the beautiful but dangerous wilds of Alaska fighting unknown assailants to find answers that go deeper than anyone ever expected. This one has all the elements of a great romantic suspense as Elizabeth Goddard is great at writing. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. these are my thoughts.
Author’s Elizabeth Goddard’s romantic suspense, “Hidden In The Night”, is set in Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska and is a tension-filled story centered around loss.
Goddard capitalizes on the fact that Alaska is commonly referred to as ‘the land of the lost’ and centers her story around a missing Jack London manuscript. She’s crafted a female main character who’s given up her FBI career (and feels the loss) to care for a sick parent and who is also plagued by the loss of a younger sibling. Goddard’s male main character feels lost in his career as a State Trooper, also experiences guilt at the loss of a victim relying on him, and feels the loss of ‘the love of his life’ walking out of his life without realizing what she meant to him. Supporting the main story and characters, is a lost and vulnerable girl (and relative believed in possession of the manuscript) who was previously trafficked, a lost research scientist, and a lost man in a remote cabin in the Alaskan wilderness.
This race against time to locate a missing manuscript and find locals lost in the Alaskan wilderness during winter kept me glued to the pages.

Providence has thrown Sunshine Girl and Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long together again. Will the circumstances give them a chance to connect or pull them apart for good?
I was sad to finish this last book in the series. Alaska holds a special place in my heart.
I was gifted this copy by Revell and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
In Elizabeth Goddard's riveting romantic suspense Hidden in the Night, readers are transported to the unforgiving terrain of Alaska, where danger lurks beneath the icy surface. As former FBI special agent turned rare-book collector Ivy Elliott embarks on a perilous quest to retrieve a priceless Jack London manuscript, she finds herself ensnared in a web of intrigue, betrayal, and redemption.
Goddard artfully entwines suspense, romance, and faith, crafting a narrative that grips the reader from the opening pages. Ivy's mission to recover the stolen manuscript and rescue a young woman from the clutches of human trafficking unfolds against the backdrop of Alaska's majestic yet treacherous wilderness.
One of the novel's most compelling elements is its exploration of faith amidst adversity. Goddard seamlessly integrates Scripture into the fabric of the story, offering moments of solace and reflection amidst the chaos. As Ivy and her unlikely ally, Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long, navigate the perils of their journey, they are reminded of the enduring strength found in Psalm 121:1–2, "I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
Throughout the narrative, Goddard dips into the psyche of her characters, revealing their innermost fears and desires. Ivy's unwavering determination and Nolan's steadfast commitment to justice resonate with authenticity, echoing the timeless wisdom of Proverbs 18:10, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."
As the plot unfolds with unexpected twists and turns, Goddard keeps readers on the edge of their seats, delivering a story that is as thought-provoking as it is thrilling. From the chilling secrets hidden within Glacier Bay to the tender moments of connection between Ivy and Nolan, Hidden in the Night is a testament to the enduring power of hope, courage, love, underscored by God’s protection and guidance.
Hidden in the Night unfolds like the swirling hues of the aurora borealis, painting an enchanting mosaic of storytelling. Against the stark backdrop of Alaska's wilderness, the intricate interplay of characters and the underlying themes of redemption and fortitude are illuminated by the guiding light of the Christian faith. As readers journey beneath the celestial spectacle of the northern lights, they are beckoned into a captivating exploration of hope, resilience, and God’s sovereignty.
I was blessed to receive an eARC of Hidden in the Night from Revell via NetGalley and a paperback copy from the talented author, Elizabeth Goddard. It's important to note that I neither had an obligation to craft a favorable review nor received any compensation for my words. My review focuses on the writing style, the pacing, and the story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
Ivy Elliot, former FBI, is on a mission to acquire a first edition book. Lucky for her it takes her to Alaska, where she'd once connected well with State Trooper, Nolan Long, and she'd been on his mind too. Their reunion was awkward, each had their own cases to solve, but they kept crossing each others' paths. Eventually they establish a working relationship, but the uncertainty of what they both want wafts back and forth, and their futures are both far from decided.
This is a nice addition to the series, the characters all make an appearance to help in the cases. You'll want to read this one if you've enjoyed the previous books.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and for the opportunity to post an honest review.
Hidden in the Night is the final installment in the Missing in Alaska series and wraps things up nicely. You can jump in and enjoy this story even if you haven’t read the first two books. But, if you have read them, you will be happy to know that the couples from books one and two do make appearances in this story, too.
The author really kept me wondering what the reason or reasons were behind the various people who seemed to be trying to either get their hands on the manuscript, capture the young woman, or simply seemed to be trying to stop Ivy from finding either. And, of course, there was murder and plenty of danger that Ivy and Nolan had to survive, as well.
Ivy and Nolan were a sweet, slow burn couple. They were both so hesitant at the beginning to show each other that they cared and wanted to explore the possibility of more. They just kept letting things like living across the country from each other stop them from moving forward. These two both also carried guilt and grief from events in their pasts. I liked that they seemed to help each other move forward and work through their issues. The story also had a nice faith thread that wove itself naturally into the storyline.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book. There was much suspense, light romance, light faith thread. The characters were great. Who was trying to sabotage their search for missing woman and manuscript? Seems two different forces were after them! Exciting adventure in Alaskan winter around Glacier Bay! I read as a stand-alone. I could tell there was information from prior book that was given in summary fashion, but it did not decrease the enjoyment as I read this suspenseful novel! I could not put it down!
Hidden in the Night is a suspenseful romance full of action, set in a small town in Alaska.
The story follows Ivy Elliott, a former FBI special agent-turned-book collector...At the request of her mother, suffering from cancer, She goes to Alaska, intending to secure an unpublished manuscript that has been hidden for many years. However, upon arrival, she discovers that the manuscript has been taken by the granddaughter of the woman who owned it, and now the girl is missing. Ivy embarks on a pursuit to retrieve the manuscript and also to rescue the young girl, who was a victim of trafficking. Ivy has reconnected with Nolan, an Alaska State Trooper whom she had met months earlier and felt a connection with. They will join forces to search for the missing girl... Eventually, they will find themself thrust into the middle of extreme weather conditions, and constantly evolving threats from unknown enemies.
I loved seeing characters from previous books... this book is part of a series that can be read as a stand-alone. I would still recommend reading the previous books to know the returning characters. This clean romantic suspense novel is action-packed, and fast-paced, with a light faith thread running through it. It is full of twists and turns that you never see coming. The characters are great, and the setting is so amazing that it feels like a character in its own right...Releases on June 4
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.
What a way to end the series! With a bookish mystery. Happy sigh. Bookseller Ivy Elliot returns to Alaska to search for a missing manuscript written by famous author Jack London. After coming across Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long and finding the sparks between them are still there, the two work together to find a missing young woman. Murders keep occurring. Will Ivy and Nolan find the mastermind behind the murders and are they connected to the missing manuscript?
Super fun what the author added in as a purely fictional lost manuscript and some of its implications. Also a pleasure to catch up with characters from prior books in the series.
I look forward to seeing what this talented suspense author will offer next!
My gratitude to the author and publisher for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
Author Elizabeth Goddard has quickly risen to the top of my favorite authors' list. "Hidden in the Night" firmly establishes her as a must-read author.
"Hidden in the Night" revolves around piecing together clues to locate a Jack London manuscript that contains a hidden treasure map. The situation is intricate because the "pieces" include:
-The manuscript is probably in Alaska. -Alaska's Indigenous people have a history tied to the treasure. -The true thief and those searching for the manuscript remain a mystery. -A band of saboteurs will stop at nothing to get their hands on it. -The plot includes serious threats like kidnapping, murder, and human trafficking.
In this third book of the 'Missing in Alaska' series, we follow Alaskan State Trooper Nolan Long and Ivy Elliott, a former FBI agent. They had a brief meeting in an earlier book but now join forces to find the manuscript and a missing local girl. As they work together, they face many dangers and struggle with growing feelings for each other. Their slow-burn romance feels real and fitting for the story.
Kudos to Elizabeth Goddard for her vibrant and imaginative language that vividly brings scenes to life. After reading this series, I feel as though I’ve traveled to Alaska numerous times.
Additionally, characters from the first two books reappear in the third book, which I enjoyed. While each book can be read as a stand-alone, reading them in order offers a much richer experience.
If you enjoy the Romantic Suspense genre, "Hidden in the Night" and this series, this is an absolute read for you. Goddard masterfully blends excitement, unexpected twists, romance, and faith in this thrilling adventure. This captivating and thought-provoking novel is perfect for cooling down the heat this summer.
I really enjoyed this book. There was much suspense, light romance, light faith thread. The characters were great. Who was trying to sabotage their search for missing woman and manuscript! Seems two different forces were after them! Exciting adventure in Alaskan winter around Glacier Bay! I read as a stand-alone. I could tell there was information from prior book that was given in summary fashion, but it did not decrease the enjoyment as I read this suspenseful novel! I could not put it down!
This is a really great read! The author does a good job of describing many details about living in Alaska. While a place can be beautiful, it can also be very deadly. I’m this story, it isn’t only the elements that are dangerous, but also some two legged creatures. Follow Nolan and Ivy as they race against time, weather, and criminals to get to the truth of several interwoven issues. There are plenty of twists and turns! I received a complimentary copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
Elizabeth Goddard has done it again, but I’m not surprised! I was hooked before I finished the first page. Once I started reading, I didn’t want to stop. I had to know how the story would end. I’m sad to see this series end but am excited to read the next series the author is writing. With a blizzard on the way, Ivy is in a hurry to find the person she needs to speak with, at a remote cabin. She arrives at the cabin to find a single occupant bleeding on the floor. While she kneels to check on him, he whispers “find her,” he could only be talking about his niece, the person she was coming to see at the cabin. Jump ahead a bit, and she sees Nolan, she was hoping she’d run into him again but didn’t realize she would see him again so soon. He was the trooper she was told to contact regarding the death of the man in the cabin and the missing niece. Lina, the missing girl’s grandmother, asked Ivy to investigate her disappearance. Lina is afraid something bad happened to her as she hadn’t been able to get in contact with her or the uncle for several days. After Ivy talks with Nolan, he agrees to investigate the girl’s disappearance. They both decided that Glacier Bay National Park is where to start looking. They both end up there separately. While there they join forces in the search for the missing girl and the manuscript she’s carrying. The manuscript is the reason Ivy ended up in Shadow Gap Alaska. Fast forward a bit more and we find Ivy and Nolan along with Carrie, the local pilot who flew Ivy to Glacier Bay, holed up in Annie’s Lodge riding out the blizzard. With a killer on the loose they don’t know who they can trust outside of their small group. Will the blizzard stop in time for them to find the girl, the killer, and the manuscript? You’ll have to read the book to find out. You won’t be disappointed as there are twists and turns you don’t see coming.
Hidden In The Night is another excellent book by Elizabeth Goddard. Ivy has left the FBI because her Mom is sick. With her Mom running a rare book store, she sends Ivy to Alaska to look for a rare manuscript. While she's there, she starts being targeted. Then, the one person who has a lead on the manuscript goes on the run for her life. Enter State Trooper Nolan, who Ivy is very interested in, but she won't act on it, who saves her and then stays with her to help find the missing girl and the manuscript. Finding out exactly what the manuscript really contained was a total surprise. This story takes you through lots of close calls, twists, and turns and has an exciting ending. This is a book not to be missed.
After having read many books by Elizabeth Goddard, I’ve found sitting on the edge of my seat, turning the pages quickly as I can is the best way to read her books. From the first paragraph or two, I’m totally hooked. If you enjoy clean, romantic suspense, Elizabeth Goddard’s books are for you. Ivy Elliott, at the request of her mother, suffering with cancer, arrives in Alaska, during winter, to retrieve and bring back home to Florida, an old manuscript written by Jack London. Other than the desire to please her mother she feels this is a fool’s errand Ivy finds Lina, the woman she is going to buy the manuscript from, however, Lina doesn’t have it. With a big storm on the way, Lina sent her granddaughter, Danna to her uncle’s house and didn’t realize she took the manuscript with her. Ivy finds her way to the uncle’s house and after knocking on the door it partially opens, and upon calling out with no response she cautiously enters to find a man in a pool of blood on the floor. The last words the man says is “find her.” Danna and the manuscript are now missing, and her uncle is dead. Ivy is a former federal agent with the FBI and agrees to Lina’s request to find Danna. Her new mission is to find the missing girl. Nolan Long, an Alaska State Tropper hears “Sunshine Girl” is in town. After meeting Ivy Elliott in Florida the previous year, he dubbed her “Sunshine Girl” mainly because of her sunny disposition. For the short time he’d known her while in Florida, he felt there was something special about her and between them. He is excited to see her again. This is a wild ride as Nolan and Ivy join up to find missing Danna, as well as the manuscript. The situations that befall them are inconceivable and chilling. The cast of characters range from relatable and trustworthy to corrupt and reprehensible. There are many twists and turns, some romance as well as surprises. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.
Former FBI special agent turned rare-book collector Ivy Elliott has arrived in Alaska to secure an unpublished Jack London manuscript kept secreted away for decades. But when she arrives, she learns the manuscript is gone--taken by the granddaughter of the woman who possessed it. Ivy sets off in pursuit, not just to save the manuscript but to save the vulnerable girl, who was previously trafficked and has no idea what she's getting herself into. Joining forces with Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long, whom she had met on a previous trip to Alaska, Ivy must battle a blizzard, sabotage, and the worst of an Alaskan winter as the search goes on. It appears that the manuscript holds a secret that more than one group is trying to obtain. But every answer they find only raises more questions--and the danger to their lives and to the missing girl may only be the tip of the iceberg. I received an advance copy from NetGally; all opinions are my own.
Elizabeth Goddard wraps up her Missing in Alaska series with both a missing person and a missing, unpublished manuscript written by Jack London. As with the first two books in the series, Hidden in the Night gives readers a taste of both the beauty and the hardships of life in Alaska.
Ivy and Nolan live almost as far apart as two people can in the US—Nolan is a resident of Alaska, and Ivy resides in Florida. But neither has forgotten the other after Ivy and her mother visit Alaska. And when the manuscript brings Ivy back and she’s embroiled in more than the hunt for the book, it’s Nolan who shows up. The two have a great dynamic that I enjoyed.
Between the manuscript, the missing girl and possible trafficking, plus a few more questions thrown in there, the plot gets a bit muddled in places. But it never took more than three or four pages for me to get caught back up.
I enjoyed visiting Alaska again within this book and am looking forward to where Goddard will take us in her next series.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own.
When Ivy Elliott goes to Alaska to purchase a rare Jack London manuscript, she finds instead a dead man. His niece is missing, perhaps being trafficked. The girl's picture looks so much like Ivy's sister who had been kidnapped and killed that, at the grandmother's request, Ivy must find her.
Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long, having met Ivy the year before, was about to leave for Florida to see her when a cabin with a large blood stain explodes with his friend, an Alaska Wildlife Trooper, inside. Intent on finding the missing girl and discovering who killed Carl, Nolan and Ivy join forces on a hunt that leads to assault, vandalism, and murder.
Hidden in the Night was a suspenseful read. Goddard's twist at the end of the book took the story in a direction I had never anticipated. She handled it skillfully and made it totally believable. This is a good addition to the series. I enjoyed it.
Okay so! This book was great in the beginning but then kind of started losing me with talks of manuscripts and pathogens which happened more towards the end which is why I round it up to a 4ish. Also there were a lot of names mentioned to keep up with. Sometimes it was confusing and I had to go back to remember who they were talking about. But, I mean, it was fine...just lost me some. I always like the mention of scripture.
This book gets an absolute must-read five plus stars from me because it has everything I enjoy in romantic suspense and then some! The plot includes a missing young woman, a missing Jack London manuscript and a murder, plus romance that is just starting to simmer. The plot is deeply immersive and I was quickly engaged in cheering for Nolan and Ivy, hoping that they could find the missing Danna unharmed. The research made the story authentically fascinating, especially the information about the glaciers and the mystery surrounding the manuscript. The entire story gave me a sense of being there, experiencing the building tension and the necessity to hurry before disaster struck. The multi-layered plot teasingly revealed the details methodically and with so much dramatic action that the book was unputdownable. Infused with spiritual truth and a sparkle of a beginning romance, the last book in the Missing in Alaska series blew me away with its realism and the sharp writing that made it a compelling and edgy read for me. I enjoyed the characters and was stunned by the surprising revelation of the identity of the villain. I really enjoyed finding out facts about this scenic and mysterious state of Alaska; the author paints a vivid picture that makes it easy to imagine the setting and place myself into the story. There are plenty of clues and red herrings and so much happening to favorite characters that I was intrigued by the fact that I had no idea what to expect next. This book has intense suspense that is brilliantly written and cleverly paced. I am sorry to see the series end here, but I have no doubt that the author will create a new series that is equally well-crafted and totally mesmerizing. Hidden in the Night by Elizabeth Goddard is the third book in a series, which each book could be read individually. As a romantic suspense novel, readers will expect romance and suspense to progress as the story progresses. It does. The plot moves along nicely with the hunt for a manuscript and what surrounds it and a missing girl. Plenty of thrills and chills for the best suspense lover. As for the romance, it was predictable and happened a little too fast for me. I noticed in most novels where the romance starts in the beginning of the book or in a previous book, it is still too soon for me. Just a personal preference. I would like to see the relationship develop more before they end up in a marriage proposal at the end of the novel. One of my favorite aspects of the novel was the setting. I hope, someday, to be able to visit Alaska, so I love seeing in my imagination and reading about characters as they maneuver through the wilderness of Alaska’s back country. There are some moments of spiritual reflection, but nothing that is really forced down the readers’ throat. Overall, Hidden in the Night has the suspense element down, but the romance needs to be paired back a little bit.
I received a complimentary copy of Hidden in the Night by Elizabeth Goddard from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Former FBI agent Ivy Elliott travels to southeast Alaska to search for a missing Jack London manuscript, but she doesn’t expect the investigation to lead her to the doorstep of Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long, the man who once saved her life and someone she thought she’d never see again. Nolan has never forgotten Ivy Elliott, and as her hunt for the manuscript leads to a dead body and a missing woman, he steps in to help. Nolan and Ivy must wrestle with the unpredictable Alaskan weather, dangerous attacks, and the growing attraction between them, and they have to solve the mysteries before a greater threat is unleashed.📃
Hidden in the Night is the final book in Elizabeth Goddard’s Missing in Alaska series, and I loved that this book not only included a missing person but also a missing book manuscript! Like the rest of the series, this book highlights both the beauty and mystery of rural Alaska, and it’s really a fantastic setting for a suspense story. I liked the dynamics between Nolan and Ivy - Mountain Man and Sunshine Girl - and watching their interest in each other grow over the course of the story. I will say that I wasn’t a fan of some of the narrative and dialogue and that I wish some of the plot details had been more clear and organized because at times I felt a little lost! But this was a good conclusion to the series and I look forward to seeing what Elizabeth Goddard writes next.💚
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.25
A big thank you to Elizabeth Goddard and Revell Fiction for sending me a copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.📘
Set in picturesque Alaska “Hidden in the Night” is the final chapter in a captivating series although I am certain Ms. Goddard will have more wonderful stories to give us soon. The story bring former FBI special agent and book collector Ivy Elliot to this cold part of the earth to secure an unpublished Jack London manuscript that was kept hidden for decades....but the manuscript is gone taken by the granddaughter of the woman who possessed it...Joining force with State trooper Nolan Long, they battle the worst of winter as the search goes on for the missing girl and the manuscript.
The story is filled with suspense, murder, blackmail and little sparkles in our lovebirds’ eyes what is not to keep flipping page to see the outcome. As usual I was hooked from the start and really enjoyed this clean, romantic suspense with a good outcome. Mr. Goddard style is fluid, the narration is vivid and she gives us a plot that is suspensive tense and fast-paced but most of all we have wonderful and warm characters to follow. If you don’t mind some Scripture passages along the way you will enjoy this story at its fullest.
In a few words, this story is a breathtaking race for the truth set amid the glorious and deadly Glacier Bay.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher Revell through Netgalley for my thoughts.....This is the way I see it.
What should be a simple task turns out to be anything but that. A lost manuscript, a missing person, a murdered man, peril, and suspense are what awaits in Hidden in the Night. I enjoyed the chemistry between Noah and Ivy, who not only returns to Alaska for a lost manuscript but also to reconnect with Noah whom she had met months earlier. Noah experienced guilt for what he considers as failures as an Alaskan State Trooper, Ivy experienced guilt when her younger sister disappeared when Ivy was a teen and when an undercover FBI operation she was working on went south. If you are looking for a new suspense read set in Alaska, check out Hidden in the Night. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This third installment in the Missing Alaska series (each book can be read as a standalone), was intriguing, included a missing person, a murder, a lost manuscript with an unknown danger in trying to recover it, and a sweet building romance.
Though I enjoyed this story, for some reason I did not find it as suspenseful as the prior books in this series. For me the danger and action and suspense only really grabbed me in that can’t-put-down plot I love around the last 30% of the story.
Still, there was a lot happening which led to an action packed mystery.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*
Ivy returns to Alaska for the seemingly simple enough task to bring home a lost manuscript. And maybe to get a chance to reconnect with Nolan, who she’d met months earlier and felt a connection with. Instead, they find themselves searching for a missing young woman. Little did she know the questions and peril she and Nolan would encounter as they searched for answers. This mystery is complex and detailed, involving secrets, curses, blackmail, and threats to national security. Filled with suspense, it is a real page-turner, with a bit of romance, and I loved it!
After much thought and conviction from the Lord, I had to rerate this book. I still recommend the first two books in the series as those are completely clean.
"...even though she wasn’t a damsel in distress, she could appreciate a hero when she saw one, or in this case, when that hero was focused on protecting her. She wanted to hold his hand, lean against his shoulder, and look out over the beauty that was Alaska."
First off, this book cover caught my eye and really stood out from all the other ARCS on Netgalley. It's an exceptionally beautiful cover and paired perfectly with the covers of the other books in this series that has sadly come to end.
Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting invested in this story, and didn't enjoy it as much as the two previous books.
For one thing, it felt like there was no clues to help you solve or work through the mystery until you neared the end of the book. That was a bummer. The other problem I've laid out below.
Negative Content
When searching for leads to a case Nolan and Ivy are both working on, they stay at a lodge in two separate rooms. After an incident happens, Nolan insists on Ivy staying in his room. This is wrong for two reasons:
1. They're not married, thus anyone who notices them rooming together can easily figure they're shacking or doing a "stand", which damages their reputations and especially his as a law enforcement officer.
2. They're alone instead of with other friends to guard and protect each other (like the girls could room together, and the guys could room together) leaving themselves open and more prone to the temptation to do wrong.
Nolan insisting on Ivy staying with him was a terrible decision, but he also wasn't in a place of authority over her to insist on it. This came across to me as alpha male vibes, and I didn't care for that at all.
Ivy remembers seeing a shirtless Nolan and how chiseled he was. She only saw him like this because they were sharing a room and he had just showered (which shouldn't have happened, although nothing else did.)
While those were the only inappropriate things in this book, I didn't appreciate them being there in the first place and was disappointed to read them in a otherwise Christian book.
Because of the content mentioned above, I don't recommend this book.
I received a complimentary e-book from Revell Books to review through Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own.
Just a quick disclaimer before I start the review: I had no idea this was the third book in a series until after I got it in the mail. So I’m looking at this book from the perspective of someone who has not read the first two. I’m gonna be honest, I can’t say I was too impressed by Goddard’s writing style. It took a lot for me to really get into it, and I felt like at some points there was too much omniscient POV, like we were watching the characters instead of getting inside of their heads. However, once I actually got into the story, I did enjoy it. Ivy is a fun character. I liked looking at things from her perspective and learning more about her past. I also liked how, while the beginning felt a little too fast (mostly likely because it picks up where things left off from book 2) I was never really lost and could enjoy the story by itself, even though I hadn’t read the previous two. That was nice. The suspense was really good (after I got past the first handful of chapters). I really liked the idea of searching for Jack London’s missing manuscript, and really wanted to see how things turned out. I also enjoyed learning more about Alaska as well. The romance subplot was very subtle which I appreciated, and didn’t take away from the main plot. There are a lot of really good themes and subject in this one. Overall, I really enjoyed Hidden in the Night despite the lack of reading the previous two books. It’s a fun read with threads of romance and faith, and very educational. Perfect for those who love suspense, heavier topics such as human trafficking and cancer, and love to learn more about different modern cultures. NOTE: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher for review purposes only. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow! What a phenomenal ending to the Missing in Alaska series by Elizabeth Goddard. This is the first book I’ve read by Goddard, and it won’t be my last. I’ve already bought the first two books in the series as well! I was transported to the icy state of Alaska where geography is as much an obstacle as the bad guys. My interest was first piqued when I read the note about a rare-book collector and a secret manuscript. But this adventure went far beyond my expectations. I enjoyed the unexpected twists and harrowing situations the characters find themselves in. I was invested in the search for Danna and was on the edge of my seat as they battled the villains. This book read fine as a stand-alone, but it seemed like several times it alluded to something that might have happened in the previous books. Several of the characters continue through the entire series, so I think it story would be best captured overall if read in order. I highly recommend the Missing in Alaska series to lovers of Romantic Suspense. I think this series is a good start for someone new to the genre as it sticks more to physical danger compared to emotional or psychological thrillers.
What a way to end this amazing series! The author just keeps getting better and better in her series. I believe that you can read this book out of order, but to get the full depth of the books I would start with the first one in the series. Ivy has been asked by her mother to go to Alaska to buy a rare manuscript. When she gets there and meets up with the lady who has it, she discovers that the lady's grandaughter has taken it and now she is missing. As Ivy is looking for the girl, she is found leaning over a man that has been stabbed. Nolan is a man that Ivy had met on an earlier trip to Alaska, and he is the one who finds Ivy leaning over the man that has been stabbed. Nolan and Ivy are looking into two different incidents, but are they different or do they connect to each other? Along the way Ivy gets attacked on separate occasions. Will they find the missing girl, the manuscript and will they survive all the obstacles in their path? You need to read the book to find out. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, but was not required to leave a positive review.
I have been waiting for Nolan Long's story since we first met him in book one, and let me tell you, he did NOT disappoint! 😍😍🔥😍 gah! He's one of those heroes that I just love in every way! He's protective, caring, determined, gets things done, steady and strong, faithful, and underneath all of that he's just so precious! He's definitely one of my favorite heroes I've read! 🥰
I really enjoyed this story, the beautiful Alaska setting, the action and suspense, and getting characters from the previous books! 🥰 that was one of my favorite parts! Getting Autumn and Grier and then Carrie and Trevor! 😍 and getting to see more of Autumn and Nolan's sibling relationship was just perfect! 💕
And I LOVED Nolan and Ivy together! *happy sigh* 🥰 so precious, so unsure, such longing, attraction for each other, comfort in the other's presence, protectiveness on both sides, respect and the ability to work together! 😍😍🔥😍 so so good!
Thank you Elizabeth Goddard for another wonderful story and amazing ending to the series! 💕
