1972: by Jonathan Daniels - 362 pages - The Randolph's, of which Thomas Jefferson was one, in terms of persons in power and skeletons in closets, sometimes involving the same individuals, the Randolph's are unsurpassed.
I decided to read this book because so many other books about the Randolph's of Virginia referenced it. Daniels tells the history of the Randolphs from William Randolph I of Turkey Island and his wife Mary Isham of Bermuda Hundred and their ancestors into the 20th century. And it's is a story, not with detailed family trees listed Once used to the concept it is an amazing story of a superlative family that was deeply instrumental in shaping not only Virginia, but America. Daniels does document the resources he used but the book could be improved with the use of footnotes for those that wish to dig deeper into the Randolph's.
