The two ancient agriculture books have a lot of the same information in them. They should have been published as one book spanning a larger time period of human history. That being said, the information in the book is very interesting.
This is a great little read! It whet my appetite to learn more about ancient agriculture. I also feel inspired that we don’t need to rely on modern technology to farm. Of course it’s much easier and that’s okay, but it’s good to know that we can be self-reliant.
I was able to learn much quickly in my research of ancient peoples with this clear breakdown of the climates and geographic influences that transformed nomadic hunter gatherers into specialized farmers. The resulting social implications of animal husbandry, specialized jobs and products, trade, and city centers with spiritual leaders were also documented clearly with artifacts.
Explains in simple terms how the story of agriculture is also the story of civilization. Also describes how ancient cultures left a rich legacy of agricultural knowledge and technology.
I found this one fairly interesting, but it was too much for the littles. Next time we do this unit (when they will be four years older...), this should be just about right.
