Would you join a book club that gets sucked into their cozy mysteries? These people did, and now they are hooked on traveling into books to become the amateur sleuths!

The book selection of the month takes the club into a charming and idyllic world of gnome-like people who love the earth, celebrating, and honey. What they don’t like is the mysterious ailment that is turning students at the local college into hideous versions of themselves.

The timing is terrible, as it coincides with the upcoming Honeybee Moon Festival, the community’s biggest celebration of the year.

The event is only a week away. Can the motley group determine what’s causing the students’ transformations, stop it from spreading, and get them back to normal? They better, since it’s the only way they can exit the book and get back home to Colorado.

My favorite book club is back for another adventure into a cozy mystery novel. The quirky book club members are back, and they are all in top form. Of course, my favorite is the handsome Siamese kitty, Frank. He’s always ready with some snarky comments.

This time the gang heads to Wundertrundle College set in a small town with happy gnome-like people. Unfortunately, many are not happy as they are suddenly coming down with a mysterious disease which turns them into terrible versions of themselves. This all happens just as the Honeybee Moon Festival and pageant is about to begin. The contestants can’t compete looking as they do.

The Magical Mystery Book Club members are prepared to help out. They will do all they can to figure out what is happening and how to stop it. The book club has no choice but to solve the mystery. If they don’t, they cannot go back home. It’s all part of the book club rules. They must see the story to the end.

I always look forward to this series and was pleasantly surprised to find this “in between” book available with the author’s newsletter for free. The premise of book club members actually being transported into a book is unique to me. The dialogue and friendship of the gang flows so naturally. They are always making me laugh with their antics. Each one comes to life on each page.

The story is fast paced with a surprise ending. Such a fun way to spend an afternoon. I can’t wait for the next one.

This one is from my own e-book collection. I received it as a freebie through the author’s newsletter. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Hexes and Hooligans by Elizabeth Pantley is a novella in the Magical Mystery Book Club series. It can be a stand alone story that is short enough for you to read in one day, like I did, or you can take your time reading it. It is considered a novella because it is shorter than a regular novel and is about half the size.....however it is probably more story because of the size the author gets to the point quicker and the pace may be faster as well. Regardless of the size and number of pages Hexes and Hooligans will grab your attention immediately !!

In the Magical Mystery Book Club series there are a group of eight people ranging from a mother and young son to Zell who was one of the originals with Gee-Gee, Paige's great-grandmother. Paige and her Aunt Glo inherited the book club and along with the other members go down to the basement where there is a magical library. They decide on a book and start reading it out loud and then they are magically placed inside the book and have to solve the case before they can return to Colorado. Luckily the Snapdragon Inn, their home and base, travels with them and adapts to the time frame that the story takes place. Oh and I forgot to mention that among the members of the group are Frank, a talking cat and Mollie who is a ghost that returned with them when they solved a case in the Wild West.

In Hexes and Hooligans there is one significant difference in that there are no murders for the book club to solve. However the book that the group chooses has a unique storyline..... They pick Beauty is in the Eye of the Hexer and start reading the story out loud. They then find themselves in a beautiful little town that is adorable !! They come across three young and beautiful girls who are very upset thinking that they are ugly. The book club members soon learn that they are in a town of gnomes and the three girls have had a curse or something placed on them to make them look "different and ugly".

The group then learns that they are in the book as visiting professors to the college where the girls are students and they are to work with the detective to find out what is happening. As they are trying to get to know the area and the people, more students are placed under the spell and the only thing they have in common besides being students are that they are all in the pageant in the upcoming Honeybee Moon Festival.

Readers will love not only this story but all the previous books in this series. Pantley knows how to hook you in immediately and you are whisked away with the book club. This is such a unique series that you will want more and more and luckily Pantley has no problem providing readers with books regularly. So if you haven't read any of the books in this series, I cannot stress it enough....you have got to get reading this series !!! I guarantee you will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it !!!!

Be prepared for a whirlwind of adventure and surprises from the minute you open this book. Elizabeth, Pantley, with her magically imaginative and creative mind, has done it once again, over the top from all of her other masterpieces!
Full of surprises well beyond the usual experiences of the cozy book club story, weaving your way through a incredibly gorgeous college town with equally wonderful citizens and students will take your breath away!
The book club, with their newest member, travel to an incredible college town, where they are assigned as visiting foreign professors as their cover, to help the talented inspector solve the mystery of a malady afflicting several of the students, though it is not apparent to the book club that there is anything wrong with the first three that they meet almost immediately in the story. Along with teaching, is an incredible event - the Honeybee Moon Festival, that will be going on soon after the group arrives in the town.
Once they get over the surprise at meeting the regular inhabitants and students, they understand now what has happened to those affected by the virus? Poison? unknown cause of the tragedy afflicting those three, and as time goes on, more members of the community.
Fortunately, in their role as professors, they have much easier access to interacting with the students as well as the community in their searching for clues & trying to solve the mystery. (For once they do not have to solve a murder, something for Moonbeam especially is really thankful!)
They bring several ideas of suspects to the inspector, who has already carefully investigated and considered, and unfortunately also ruled out as innocent! Once, again, on the search for the real cause, they stumble across a transaction that is surprising, exciting, and also somewhat frightening, that causes them to again contact the inspector, who slightly accuses them of being “the boy who cried wolf“; however, giving her a few more facts has her arriving almost immediately!
The inspector takes care of handcuffing and paperwork while the club returns to the inn, discusses and decides to not end the story right then, but to stay and enjoy the festival first! They all do have a grand time with the festivities, and of course the food, and then retire at the end to the library at the Inn to write “the end” and return home once again
As is usual for me with a new Elizabeth Pantley book, when I picked up and started to read the story, I could not put it down! I persisted until I finished it!!! and very quickly! Absorbing all the excitement and adventure, I come to the end with a bit of sadness. There is hope though, because there will be another book and that’s my consolation!

Hexes and Hooligans by Elizabeth Pantley is 5.5 (a Novella) of her fun and entertaining Magical Mystery Book Club series. Refresher: Paige and her Aunt Glo, inherited the grandmother’s country inn, which comes with a magical library. The magical library consists of 8 members, who choose a book, and they are transported into the story, with cozy mysteries that they have to solve. This is a lighthearted and fun series, with wonderful characters and a magical cozy mystery.

As club members arrive, they are all anxious to choose another book, and be on their merry way to another adventure. They choose a story line which for a change, does not have murders. The book is called Beauty is the Eye of the Hexer, and once the first chapter is read, the globe rotates and they are on their way. I like Paige and Glo, and most of the members of the club, but I adore Frank, the talking cat. Mollie, the ghost is a good character, who continued to stay with the group.

Upon arrival at a beautiful small town with residents that are all gnomes. Immediately, they meet three young girls, who are upset, as they fear they have been hit with a virus. Paige, Glo and the group look at the girls, and they look very healthy; but once they meet many of the residents, they will realize that the girls, and future school members that get infected, consider themselves different looking (though they look beautiful); is this a curse against those that do not look like gnomes?

All of the book club members act as visiting professors at the college, and there they try to find clues as to what is happening. Soon they realize that it is not a virus, but someone bad, has created a hex against those hit with so called virus. They go to different classes to look for clues to try and solve the mystery, especially with the upcoming Honeybee Moon Festival. It was funny when they suspected different people and brought them to the inspector, only to find out they were wrong.

What follows is a fun story that has all the members trying to find clues, as well as suspects. I really enjoy this series, as it is so very entertaining. All the characters in the Magical Mystery Book Club are very good, with Paige and Glo being the leaders, and Frank (the talking cat) always enjoyable.

Hexes and Hooligans was another terrific and fun addition to this series. There were a few surprises throughout, which was lots of fun to read. Hexes and Hooligans was a wonderful lighthearted fun magical mystery, which was very well written by Elizabeth Pantley. I look forward to the next book.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Hexes and Hooligans by Elizabeth Pantley sends the book club off on another adventure; it's all about fixing some hexes on the gnomes.

Can the Book Club stop whoever is sending the hex around before the Honeybee Moon Festival?

The Magical Mystery Book Club is off into a new book where the group utilizes their strengths and weaknesses when needed. Sometimes, it's easy for them to use Frank to gather information or Mollie since people cannot always see her. The group also have their own strengths and weaknesses that are great to use. Valeria is getting used to popping into books and solving the mysteries. I can't wait to see how Valeria can help solve more mysteries. This group is so awesome.

The Mystery
The Book Club finds themselves in a gnome college town where the students are getting a strange magical ailment that is turning the gnomes into regular, beautiful humans. Paige, Glo, and the rest of the group keep running into a lot of red herrings that actually have an excellent reason for doing this, but all end up getting alibied out or have another reason for what the group found. I eventually figured the mystery out quite literally right before the group did. I still can't wrap my head around why that person was doing those things.

Five Stars
I am giving five stars to Hexes and Hooligans by Elizabeth Pantley, and I am recommending it as well. What I love about Ms. Pantley's books is that you can read them in any order if you want to, and the main story still makes sense.

Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Hexes and Hooligans by Elizabeth Pantley.

Until the next time,

This book was provided in return for an honest review.

This book is part of a cozy mystery series about a magical library that can transport you to new worlds as described in the pages. This book can, however, be read as a standalone book as the author goes to great trouble to ensure all relevant information is provided to the reader at the beginning. However, I feel that reading some of the earlier books in the series may be beneficial as there are several main characters beyond the two FMC the author mentions in her initial blurb as part of the book club, and at the beginning, it was hard to keep the various characters straight and remember who each person was as they talked and made observations.
I can say the premise of this book is magical, the ability to travel into a book and live there for a short time is amazing and something that I imagine all book lovers would give an arm or leg to be able to do.

The general premise of this particular book involves the book club travelling to a gnome society to investigate a mysterious malady affecting the locals of a college town. I love the concept of a cozy mystery not centered around a death even a bloodless one and thought the mystery was refreshing.

However, the actual sleuthing was very lacklustre, I base this on the fact there were six mysteries before this one that the majority of this group had helped solve, yet they approached the mystery in a very childish way, to me it appeared they were more interested in living the world for a short time and were not interested in actually solving any crimes. I also found their approach when determining suspects to be quite superfical and there was an element of mob mentality about them, they would pounce on a theory with no real backup to their suspicions but be assured it was correct because so many people couldn't be wrong. By 84% with the janitor, it felt like they were just throwing suspects at the wall and trying to make them stick.

Overall I thought the book could do with some work and thought it seems to be aimed at an adult audience I think would have been more receptive to a younger audience. I still love the premise and hope that as the series continuous the mystery and sleuthing will improve.

How many times have we said we loved a book because the author drew us right into the story? That thought is what makes this series so special and fun. When the book club members gather and read the first page of the book, they are magically transported into the story. They must then solve the mystery before they can return home.

In “Hexes and Hooligans,” they find themselves in a lovely little college town where the residents are…gnomes. But upon their arrival, they find three young ladies in a huddle crying. They have fallen victim to a hex going around. A festival pageant, in which all three of the young ladies are participants, is only a week away. The book club members now know their mission is to find out who is responsible for the hex. They will be working with Detective Sharlock Knomes (ha! ha!) to find the villain.

The book club is made up of a zany assortment of characters. Feisty Zell, an octogenarian, and Frank, the talking cat loaded with attitude, provide their usual banter and hilarity. Ghostly Mollie, a recent addition to the club, adds her charm to the group. From time to time, a member may drop out and a new one is added. This changes the dynamics of the group occasionally. I aways look forward to visiting with this group of lovely characters. (I am just so glad my cat can’t talk, as he would probably be as snarky as Frank.)

I am not a fan of novellas as I find I cannot fully escape into them. Just as I seem to settle in, the story comes to an end. This book is a quick read and, even in its brevity, it will make you laugh. The author has a very creative imagination.

I highly recommend this book (and series) to paranormal cozy fans. I received an advance copy of this book. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

HEXES AND HOOLIGANS by Elizabeth Pantley
A Magical Mystery Book Club Novella 5.5

In their latest adventure the Magical Mystery Book club is transported to a college town inhabited by gnomes. The town is preparing for the Honeybee Moon Festival but tragically several students have been infected with a virus that has hideously disfigured them, at least by gnome standards of beauty. In the guise of visiting professors the book club gang will have to determine what caused the virus. Could it be a hex? Is someone trying to eliminate pageant contestants? The gang will have to work fast as the festival is fast approaching and more students are succumbing each day!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and inside beauty is just as important as physical appearance. That is the lesson found in HEXES AND HOOLIGANS, the fifth and a half Magical Mystery Book Club book. That and make sure you're certain before you start accusing people of things!

I enjoyed visiting a land inhabited by gnomes, something different than the usual paranormal excursion. It was also interesting to see how, though she enjoyed being seen by others, that benefit hampered Mollie's ability to investigate.

HEXES AND HOOLIGANS is a novella that falls between books five and six of the Magical Mystery Book Club series, thus being book 5.5. As such it's a bit shorter. I like the shorter length every now and again, however, things weren't as flushed out as usual. I was left wondering about certain characters and their behaviors at the end. Still, I did enjoy the story.

While filled with fun and laughs there's a deeper message in HEXES AND HOOLIGANS. Sit back, return to school, celebrate with gnomes, and perhaps take something more with you when you're done.

Hexes and Hooligans is a book club comprised of eight people, a cat, and a ghost. What makes this book club special? This is a magical book club and when the group picks a book from the magic library, they actually travel into the book to solve a mystery. In this story, the group travels to a small, charming town where the inhabitants are gnome-like. There's a local college and students are scared because several of them have been hexed. They look totally different and the timing couldn't be worse. There is a big event coming up, the Honeybee Moon Festival and a pageant which these students can no longer participate in. Can the group work with a local investigator and find the culprit responsible?

I love how the Author included red Cardinals in this book which is the first one in the series I've had the opportunity to read but I would like to purchase the other books and start my own book club. Would you like to join us? I can't wait to share this book with David because he loves Gnomes just like my best friend Debbie and the Author has Gnomes taking part in pageants? Can you imagine that?

There is no murder in this story, which works well as the book club members have to work out who or what is behind the inflections affecting the contestants. I found the book to be humorous at times like the Author naming one of the characters Sharlock Knomes. I also fell in love with the characters and the cover of the book. I would love having the Siamese Cat for my own.

This book is the first I have read in the magical mystery book club series.
And I am glad it can be a stand alone read.

Thank you to Voracious readers only for sharing this book with me and giving me the opportunity to read and review.

From the very start this book draws you in and makes you intrigued to continue reading and to find out what happens.
The creativity and imagination of Elizabeth Pantly is amazing, she is able to take you on adventures

The idea of the book club is to agree on a book and begin to read together l, this is when the magic happens and they are transported into the book. The book club has to solve the mystery before they can leave … this is genius.

This particular book “ beauty is in the eye of the hexer “ takes the book club into a beautiful little village called Wundertrundle
As Sebastian says “this place is preposterously beautiful “

Where the people are not necessarily people they are gnomes, they go to a magical college called wundertrundle college and this is when they find out that something is going on within the town.

Each of the characters of the book club are using a cover of visiting professor as they begin to find out what is going on and causing all the trouble.

Best character ever - Sharlock Gnomes (great name spin from Sherlock Holmes )
Frank- that talking Siamese cat - he just soaks up the attention perfectly beautiful

Overall this book is very fast paced, with lots of interesting characters and very easy to read - I would definitely recommend this read to anyone interested.. even to young teens

I am definitely going to find the others within this series

I have really enjoyed this series which has become a favorite and this book is a prime example of why. This is a novella that's well-written with well-rounded characters and a fun, fast-paced plot. The mystery will keep you on your toes and guessing throughout with the many twists and turns along with the multiple red herrings. Elizabeth is an excellent author and a superb storyteller. I was drawn into this magical tale and kept hooked from the beginning, not wanting it to end. This is a great read that makes you stop and think about beauty and how it's different for everyone. I loved this book and am already eager for the next one. I highly recommend both book and series. While each book could be read on its own since each has its own mystery, I recommend reading them in order to get even more out of things.

I will never look at a gnome the same way or without this book coming to mind. This series is so much fun, the author can really let her imagination go wild and she certainly does with this book, who would of thought of gnomes taking part in pageants? There is no murder in this story, which works well as the book club members have to work out who or what is behind the inflections affecting the contestants. There are plenty of suspects and red herrings, to keep you guessing and I never did come up with the right answer. I was a bit like the members and kept changing my mind. I know this was a novella (A bonus book between the books in the series) but the story was so packed full it felt like a full adventure. I hope it's not long before the next book club meeting.
The next book the Snapdrangon book club members decide to venture into takes them to a college, where students are becoming sick. In order to investigate the members all become professors and enter an academic world like they have never seen before. With the Honeybee moon festival fast approaching and the students entered into the pageant the most affected, Pagie and the gang will have there work cut out for them to find the cause of the sickness and cure the infected.
I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntary left this review.

Thank you to Voracious Readers and to the author for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly, I was surprised how much I liked this book- being able to go into a book? Right up my alley!

The only reason for my rating really is because this is the fifth book in the series, so I don’t have backstory on the characters to really understand who they are and appreciate their characteristics and actions.

For example- why can Frank talk? Where did Mollie come from?

It would have been good to have context but that’s on me!

The characters in this group are such an eclectic group with individual personalities and it was great to see how they navigated the world of the book.

They end up entering a cosy mystery book, where a hex is changing gnomes into beautiful humans. (But to them they are horrible).

I really liked the descriptions of the gnome characters, the descriptions are really vivid and I could picture all of them in my head.

Overall it’s a good story, and it was funny to think that the group are just acting like readers- everyone is a suspect when you read a mystery, and the real antagonist is a shock!

I really enjoyed it.

I’m interested in going back and reading the first few to see where everything started as well as getting to know the characters better.

3/5 stars.

Probably more like a 2.5 but I really couldn't bring myself to give it the full 3 star round up.

In the story's defense, I have not read the other books in this story and maybe if I were already invested in the quirky band of characters it would have been easier to overlook the blandness and nonsense of the rest of the story. The concept of a book club that transports into the cozy mysteries in their magical library is a fun one. Unfortunately the story is bland and foolish. As a novella, this reads more like a story outline than a full story. There are way too many suspects and the crew of crime solvers are WAY too quick to jump to conclusions. Also, the author seems to be under the belief that cozy mysteries don't involve gruesome murders? That's not really been my experience, and I read A LOT of cozy mysteries. All in all, it just didn't work. The villain came out of nowhere in the end and the "solving" of the crime was equally foolish.

Thanks to Voracious Readers Only and Elizabeth Pantley for the free copy of the book.

Hexes and Hooligans delivers a delightful blend of magic, mystery, and charm that fans of the Magical Mystery Book Club series have come to adore. This novella, set within the whimsical world of the book club, offers a quick yet thoroughly engaging read.

The storyline, which centers on the group’s latest adventure into a magically conjured mystery, is both clever and heartwarming. Elizabeth skillfully balances lighthearted humor with a touch of suspense, creating a cozy mystery that feels both fresh and familiar. The characters, with their quirks and camaraderie, continue to grow and captivate.

I found the storyline particularly charming, as it maintained a playful and imaginative tone while still weaving a compelling mystery. The magical setting adds an extra layer of fun, making this installment a standout in the series.

Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the series, Hexes and Hooligans is a delightful escape that will leave you smiling and eager for more adventures with this enchanting book club.

I absolutely loved this! I understand this is just a small snippet of a story set between other books in the series, but it was so much fun!

I like that each book in this series builds a storyline with the book club characters, but that each story is also its own adventure. I want to go back and start this series from the beginning so I can get properly introduced to the characters.

This story takes the book club members on a journey to a magical land that will challenge your perception of what it is to be beautiful. The characters are fun and endearing as they work together to solve the mystery. Their perspective on the story is a fresh take, as it feels as though you have a whole group of friends working with you to muddle through the clues and sus out the antagonist.

If you've ever thought about joining a book club, but don't like the idea of dealing with real people, this is the series for you!

Comical with a cute mystery and a dose of mystical history.

The usual cast of characters are back in the latest installment of the Magical Mystery Book Club. Even though this shorter book is between book 5 and 6 of the series, the author continues to entertain her readers. If you are not familiar with the book club gang, be prepared to fall in love with this group of generous, loyal, adventurers.

The plot was whimsical and amusing. I had a smile on my face from the first page to the last page. I found this book to be more humorous than the other books in the series, though there are plenty of laughs in all of them. I mean, seriously, how can you not laugh out loud when one of the characters is named Sharlock Knomes. And that’s a clue as to how entertained you will be with this story.

My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions are my own.

First off, the idea for this book is a dream. Picking up a book and actually being able to enter the story to solve a mystery.
100% a storyline that speaks to me.
I'm not a huge fan of a novella. They are short and fast paced, all great, but I felt they lack the building of the story. The stuffing to pad the bones out.
This is part if a series of books and I think you can read this as a stand alone.

I'm giving 3 stars because I felt there was a bit more repetition that necessary. Told repeatedly the cat could talk and Mollie was a ghost.
I wasn't a fan how the mystery was solved mainly on motive rather than following a bread trail of clues.
All my personal preference. I thought it was a good book and I loved the idea. I'd read others on the series and will be telling friends about it.

Hexes and Hooligans is part of the Magical Mystery Book Club series. This time the book club takes a trip into a cozy mystery featuring gnomes. It’s almost time for the Honeybee Moon Festival, the biggest celebration of the year, when a mysterious illness changes a few college students into hideous versions of themselves. It’s up to the book club to get to the bottom of this mystery before the Festival.

I love this series so much and the way the book club travels to different cozy mystery books each time. This is a great idea and I still love it this far into the series. The characters are great and I love getting to know them. I’ve never read a book about gnomes before, so this was a fun mystery to get lost in. I enjoyed this book from start to finish and I look forward to seeing what comes next in this series.

Hexes and Hooligans is a novella in which the mystery book club travels inside a book to a land of gnomes where some of the gnomes have had a hex placed on them. The book club must figure out who had placed the hexes and remove them so that the festival may continue.

This series is so amazing and gets better with each story. With each book that I read, I feel more and more like I am a part of the book. It feels like I am right there with the characters. The images created are so vivid and real, like a painting in my mind. Each character is so fun and so different, but they fit together so well. Each book that they end up in is so unique, creating a totally different story. I can't wait to see which book they leap into next.

Cute but sloooooow.

I had previously read “Shifting and Shenanigans” the first in the Magical Mystery Book Club series, and loved the hook of a book club literally getting pulled into the mystery they were reading. This is the fifth book of the series, and it felt like all vapor and no substance.

While I still enjoy the premise, this adventure was a little to sugary for me. Everything was very bland and repetitive. And I felt like we just went from one accusation of the “antagonist” to the next.

I am one to read a book in a few days, but just didn’t have the pull to pick this one up.

Definitely a cute read for the mild mannered cozy. But this book lacked any depth to keep my interest.

It's embarrassing to admit, but I only made it about 6 pages into this book. I don't know if it's because it's an interlude novel between 2 other main books in the series, but I had a lot of questions about what was going on.
At around page 3, we were introduced casually to a talking cat. That one threw me - is it a familiar? Human turned cat? What was going on here? But I decided to push through.
Until around page 6 when we were just as casually introduced to a friendly ghost in western attire.

My rating may seem unfair as, not only did I not finish, I barely even started, but this book seems FAR too juvenile for my tastes.

If you enjoy these cutesy supernatural tropes, by all means: enjoy.

I adore this book club! In this story beauty is really in the eye of the beholder. Paige, Glo and the rest of the book club go into a book about gnomes that have been hexed. But the hex in not something that the club thinks is bad but the gnomes do. I love that each of the book club members are so different from each other. Each one has something special to bring to the mystery. And all of them are so accepting of each other and whatever they might read themselves into. New life goal is to have a magical library with a spinning globe that reads me into each story! Full of fun, a touch of snark and just a little bit of magic Hexes and Hooligans can take you away for a little while!

I have never wanted to join a book club more than after reading this book! I had never read a book with this concept before. The only thing that comes to mind is Inkheart but this was different. Many different characters come together to read books but have an adventure inside the magical world of mystery books. What more could I ask for?
At first, I thought that it was too many characters all at once and was confusing but this is not the first book in the series but a novella, but even then you get the hang of all the characters and just how different they are. It can still be read as a stand-alone.
Even then, it just makes me want to read all the other books in order.

I received a complimentary copy of Hexes and Hooligans from the author through Voracious Readers.
I can honestly say, I wasn’t sure this was for me however once I started reading, I was gripped by the characters and was soon entrenched in the story! The writing is strong. The scene is set and characters brought to life with just the right amount of description. It’s a nice, light, easy read and a book the whole family can enjoy. There are a lot of characters, all of them ‘main’ characters but they each bring their own personality to the story and each are equally involved in trying to solve the mystery.

A quick read. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is true in the new adventure for the book club. They are in a book with gnomes and when they land there, there are some beautiful girls sitting there crying about how hideous they are. None of them understand why they think they are hideous until they find out that there is a hex placed on some members of the community. To the book club they are beautiful, but to the gnomes, they are hideous. As they group investigates, they come up with plenty of suspects but seem to be wrong about all of them. Can they figure it out before more people fall under the hex?

What did you enjoy the most? The title and the book cover. I love cats, and the name is great as well.

What didn’t you like? Although I'm not a big fan of mysteries, I tried reading this book. I got up to chapter 4, and I could go on. However, I can't remember what the first four chapters are about. I read this almost a week ago, and now I'm getting it ready to review.

Would you purchase the next book in the series or other novels by the author? Not really, due to the fact that I do not like mystery or cozy reads at the moment.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers.

I received this book as a complimentary copy of the book from the author through Voracious Readers Only, and was pleasantly surprised. A quick, easy read that brings you to a unique setting amidst a mystery. Students are falling ill, what or who is causing this? A group of friends go into this cozy mystery, and venture through a fairytale town to help solve this whodunnit. It took some time to pick up speed, but moved quickly after. Although the author says you can read the books one-off, you get the sense there are some personality traits missed by joining so late; but you don’t feel like you’re missing out.

This is the first book in the Magical Mysteries Book Club series that I have read. Hexes And
Hooligans is a novella that is chronologically between books 5 and 6. With the little intro at the
start of the story; I didn’t feel lost or that I needed to read books 1-5. Although, after finishing
Hexes And Hooligans, I want to go back and read books 1-5 and keep going.

It is a fun twist to have a story within a story. The characters are fun and eclectic.

Having a secret magical library is something every avid reader would love to own. Or at the very
least be invited to the Snapdragon Inn’s mystery book club.
