[What a shame that, at the time of writing this review, the goodreads listing of this book isn’t correct. The title is but the cover is not. The cover shows a different author and book entirely.]
It’s a shame about the incorrect listing because ‘Not So Stupid’ by Malorie Blackman is one of the best books I’ve read this year. I can’t say I’ve read many collections of short fiction where almost EVERY piece has captured my full attention - well, this collection managed to do just that. I was so impressed by the truth within these stories. The authors voice speaks to the reader through these stories and it has a lot to say. I was already a Malorie Blackman fan and I’ve owned this book for a while but have only just properly read it. I’m so glad I did.
What’s surprising is that it’s a fairly old book (1990) (wow that makes me feel really young) but it’s better than most contemporary short fiction I’ve read lately.
A me sembra solo incitare alla violenza.
Skin Tones (Note di pelle) is a short story I remember well even after more than 20 years: you have to let go of hate to be free and when you learn about the awful truth you can't forget it, you can choose to ignore it, but you'll know it. This short story had a big impact on teenage me.
