When a mathematician seeks the aid of a rake, things may not go to plan… A fun, extra-steamy, utterly scandalous, romantic holiday novella.
Spinster Lady Luella (Ella) knows a lot about mathematics but is completely out of her element when it comes to men. To right a terrible wrong, she has until the Christmas ball to learn as much as she can about the art of seduction. Determined to enlist the help of an expert, she has set her sights on a handsome stranger who frequents the notorious pleasure club, L’Anonyme.
Lewis, Duke of Ansford, wants nothing to do with Christmas, the woman who stole her way into his cab, or her mad plan. A winter storm has stranded her in his home. All he wants is peace and solitude during the holiday. Not a woman who disrupts his tranquility—and a mutual attraction that burns white-hot.

I’m finding that almost all of the Lila DiPasqua books I’ve read (and loved) have the following in common:
Smokin hot, supremely sexy, confident men (think alpha without the asshole attitude)
Strong women who know what they want and have the courage to go for it
Sizzling chemistry and melt-your-kindle, fling-your-panties-across-the-room hotness
Sweet, tender, romantic feels
What’s not to love?
(She wants to know what men find sexy and alluring in a woman…)
He had her hand again. He crossed the room with her in tow, his long legs eating up the space with rapid ease. Stopping before a tall mirror on the wall opposite the hearth, he placed her before him. The most delectable heat emanated from his muscled body. It whispered through her blood.
[…]
He dipped his head, his mouth now near her ear. “Confidence is seductive. Confidence in knowing you have what a man wants. That you are what he craves.” His warm breath tickled her ear, sending tiny tingles rippling through her body. “But I am not.” The words came out a little breathless. His fingers wrapped around her wrist, and he pulled her hand behind her, pressing her palm to his trousers. She lost her breath. “This is what you do to me. Do you feel how hard my cock is?” How could she not? He was hard as stone, his length extending beyond her hand. Without a thought, she wrapped her fingers around him and squeezed through the material, eliciting a soft groan from him.
[…]
“What I see in this mirror is a woman who is so damned alluring. With sensuous eyes and a mouth made for pleasure.” She wasn’t looking at herself in the mirror. Instead, she was focused on him, his handsome face. His perfect mouth she was dying to kiss. The fire in his eyes. And he noticed. He took a step back. “Take off your clothes.”
Your Grace, I’m down for anything you want to teach me 😉
The perfect balance of sexy, fun & tender! Intellectual Ella is refreshingly brilliant in all her endearing tenacity as she makes an all out attempt to gain a quick lesson in seduction from the charismatic yet brooding Lewis. Funny and witty, it seduces with the allure of longing, intimacy, heated wordplay and crackling chemistry. DiPasqua really builds up the seductive sexual tension well to a steamy yet heartmeltingly tender degree. I just loved Ella's intellect and go get it persistence, wrapped up with endearing befuddling charm, as she reaches for bravery in the face of adversity and quite literally bamboozled and fascinated Lewis until he couldn't imagine life without her. A truly joyous tale that celebrates those who break free from the norm and display their extraordinary brillance by taking the harder path with such courage in the face of scorn, prejudice or dismissiveness. A truly fabulous series starter that I hope continues in the same bewitching vein of humour, sparkling wit, intimate honesty, unabashed originality in its characters and heated, oh so flush inducingly steamy, passion. This quick spicy read was one of my favourites in the Duke in a Box anthology and remains just as captivating the second time as two so deliciously come together (no pun intended ;-)) thanks to a snow storm tempting titillating close proximity and a sensual quest to arm oneself to administer a good portion of just desserts. Loved this story as Lewis and Ella shone so brightly together and made the perfect match!
~I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own~
Such a fun and romantic story of a little bit awkward mathematician spinster and a well know about the town rake.
I love the trope of shy spinsters asking rakes for tutelage in the romance/sex department, where it’s the experienced party that falls first and falls hard. And this story didn’t disappoint.
There was so much good humour, chemistry, and lovely tension between Sarah and Lewis. I loved her determination and charming obliviousness to Lewis’s growing attraction. And, of course, he first found the awkward bluestocking amusing, but then when the tension and chemistry exploded, he was definitely the first one smitten.
Ella has chosen to pursue a higher education in the sciences and mathematics. She's also active in the suffrage movement. She made a mistake and gave herself to someone that then stole her manuscript that she was going to submit for publication. Now, she wants to learn how to seduce a man in order to retrieve her work. Enter Lewis who frequents a club well known for its debauchery. A snowstorm happens and she ends up at his townhome overnight. At first he does not know who she is and vice versa. She goes by Sarah and he by Joseph. During their time together (about 2 weeks), conversations are had, truths are told, and feelings develop. We learn why Lewis hates Christmas and more info on the asshole who stole Ella's work. This had a wonderful resolution with the stealing asshole getting what is coming to him. Well paced and I liked both characters having bought into their romance.
I always enjoy reading Lila’s books! She never disappoints in her main characters and the storyline. Lady Ella, I absolutely loved her! She is a brave and intelligent young lady and she accomplished what she wanted with the gorgeous rake of a Duke! Lewis the Duke of Ansford was surprised to find a beautiful lady in his carriage! He just wanted to go home and spend Christmas alone, like he has been doing. But, Ella is a breath of fresh air for him and their attraction sizzles off the charts! Their sensual and erotic love scenes are deliciously written. Over the time spent together before she leaves they eventually develop feelings for each other. Towards the end of the book so much happens with Ella that made me happy for her! And then the Duke surprises her at the ball and so many beautiful words are spoken ❤️ This novella is an absolute must read, it’s well written and has a beautiful happy ending!
There were no dull moments. I admire the heroine's independence and zeal. The hero also executes an alpha energy that is not annoying.
Their story doesn't lack any element of a swoon-worthy romance and that's what I love about this. From the beginning, there's this palpable chemistry between the couple and they have this awesome situation that guided them towards each other's path. The steam? 8.5/10. The romance? A nine. The plot? A solid ten! I WISHHHHHH it was a full-length novel so I could be with this couple longer huhu. I finished this book in under an hour 😭.
Will definitely read more from this author. I swear!!!
(I read this as a part of a Christmas anthology entitled "Duke in a box").
Lila DiPasqua's novellas (and three books as well, from the Feiry Tales) are sweet and fuzzy as much as they're sensual.
While not part of her Feiry Tales sequel, this book has that fairy-tale charm. Set in Christmas, a mathematician asks a rake for help. But not just any sort of help... She wants to fool a man into giving her back her own research papers by trying to seduce him. Given Lewis's reputation, she decides on asking him for advice on the art of seduction. She follows him and ends up stuck with him because of a blizzard.
“Aside from a bit of your time, what would it cost you to aid me?” “My sanity. It’s already being taxed right now.”
A well written historical romance novella set in England in the 1880's. It covers the two weeks before Christmas and is fully of spicy scenes. A nice way to spend a couple hours reading.
Thanks to the author for a copy of this short story and this is my freely given opinion.
I quite enjoyed this short story, which is the first of a new series by this author, but originally published in the Duke in a Box anthology.
This is the story of Lewis, the bored rake, and Duke of Ashford, who walls himself and his heart off from any other entanglements, and only engages in paid carnal pleasures at an anonymous pleasure house, rather than engage in any kind of relationships.
He seems to be feeling the emptiness of his life one night when he leaves his club to go home, after eschewing any of his usual pleasures, to be accosted by a strange woman, with an even stranger request. Lady Ella is a bluestocking spinster who is seeking an experienced rake to help teach her about seduction and carnal pleasure. She is a brilliant mathematician who was recently seduced and had her thesis stolen by a colleague and she has suddenly devised a plan to seduce it back at a Christmas house party they are both attending. She concludes that the man coming out of the pleasure club, Lewis., must be experienced enough to advise her.
Initially Lewis rejects her and her unlikely sounding plan, but they end up snowed in together at his townhouse.
This is a grumpy-sunshine, forced proximity, hidden identity that becomes quite steamy as Lewis gives into to his attraction to Ella and they engage in a short affair with each other. Lewis learns what it is like to actually have a relationship, short though it is, rather than casual encounters, and grows to enjoy speaking and spending time with Ella, and they open up to each other. But in the end, Ella leaves, with the plan to get her papers back, and Lewis is alone again, but the return to his normal life has suddenly lost appeal.
This is short, steamy, and a fun, fast read, with a sweet, sunny, brainy heroine who worms her way into Lewis's frozen heart.
I love Regency romances, especially ones like The Frosty Duke. They are delightful, steamy escapes, full of improbable circumstances, engaging, beguiling characters in uncomfortable but irresistible situations, and strict society rules that would make those of us living in today’s modern world choke at the harsh, unfair restrictions and punishments.
Ella is a spinster and was resigned to that fact for her future until a charming man came along. A charming man who was in fact a charming scoundrel who took not only her innocence but the mathematics paper she was intending to present. It’s hard enough to survive in the Regency man’s world, but when your work is stolen by a cheating con man, that’s just too much. She devises a plan to get her work back, but to do that she needs to improve her seduction skills. And for that she decides she needs a man to teach her. A man she selects at a local pleasure club.
That man is Lewis, Duke of Ansford. He may know what she needs to learn, but he’s a grump, a guy who doesn’t like holidays, personal relationships, happy times. He’s been alone for a while now and he wants to keep it that way. But once Ella and Lewis meet, maybe he’s not so frosty after all. She’s beautiful, not afraid to state what she wants – and not afraid to let her intelligence show, a rare woman in Regency times.
The Frosty Duke is funny, sweet, steamy with two people you love right away and a storyline that will keep you interested and entertained from start to finish. Thanks to author Lila DiPasqua for providing an advance copy of this charming novella. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
The Frosty Duke is an erotic historical romance novella set in December, 1885. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
I have this novella in “Duke in a Box: Twelve Steamy Historical Holiday Novellas”.
5+ stars
Lewis Joseph Ambrose, ninth Duke of Ansford, hates the Christmas holiday. The past two Christmases have brought heartache and loss so Lewis has made a concerted effort to distract himself, to forget about it.
Lady Luella Thorndal is the youngest of four daughters of the former Earl of Claverton. Unfortunately, her father and sisters have always told Ella that her strong intellect and tall stature have impeded her chances at love and marriage. Ella has has First and Second Class Honor degrees in science and mathematics, and she has written a paper she wants to submit to be published. Ella is a Heroine with gumption and her honesty is a delightful trait.
Lewis and Ella meet under strange circumstances however Ella’s congenial and honest disposition quickly eases the awkward situation. Their relationship sparks to life and it’s a delight to watch a bond develop between the two strangers, from where there was once suspicion and mistrust. Their conversations are meaningful. The way they connect with each other is genuinely and pure. Their sexy times are passionate, hot, and intense.
Secondary character Darius is a hoot. He adds depth to Lewis’ character.
Bluestocking Lady Luella is smart and beautiful, she can learn quickly and has degrees behind her. She's set on revenge against a former beau but there is just one little thing she'll need to learn- how to seduce a man. Lucky for her, she's done her homework and has chosen a man who frequents a notorious club for rakes as her teacher. Lewis, Duke of Ansford hates Christmas and just wants to go home. He never expected to have to deal with a madwoman hell bent on revenge, all the while remaining anonymous to him. And if that wasn't bad enough, now she's trapped in a snowstorm at his house asking him to teach her the ways of seduction. While this is a very short story and I wanted more, I found myself satisfied with just enough. This surprisingly is a very well written story that tells you what you need to know, has character development, and is entertaining throughout for being so short. Lila DiPasqua is a master at blending the romantic, spicy, and actually funny all into a neat little package. I was impressed. This is kinda insta-love since it is a novella but it doesnt feel that way. And the steam is off the charts! I really liked how humorous Ella is and she doesn't even have to try and Lewis despite being frosty at first, warms up to her fast. I cannot wait for more from this series. Highly recommend. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lewis, the male lead, is shocked to emerge from his club and find a female ensconced in his carriage, asking for his assistance/advice. Though he tries to send her on her way, the worsening weather and apparent blizzard mean he offers her sanctuary in his home. Ella, the female lead, is an accomplished mathematician whose work has been stolen by a man who seduced her. She’s determined to retrieve her work and serve justice to the perpetrator by returning the theoretical seduction. She just needs a little experience and tuition and she’s hoping Lewis will help…
This short novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy historical romance. I enjoyed Ella’s cleverness and her determination to claim justice against the antagonist. I empathised with Lewis’ perspective on the world and enjoyed watching his perspective change with Ella’s input. I enjoyed their intimate relationship that led to the stronger long lasting respect and relationship.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
This was a super steamy tale. It did have a plot but the focus was definitely elsewhere. Beautiful but bookish Sarah was seeking revenge on the man that nearly destroyed her. Stealing her virtue was the least of his crimes. The intellectual lady sets up an elaborate revenge plot the first step of which is for her to find a worldly man willing to tutor her in the art of pleasure. As luck would have it, the man who wandered into her snare was a handsome, brooding duke. What are the odds? Then, due to horrible weather before Christmas, the lady and the duke get snowed in at his London townhouse. I bet no one has any inkling of where this is heading! I did need to suspend my disbelief more than usual when I read this story. Nevertheless, it was amusing and fun to read. The characters were likeable and their conversations were often quite humorous. The affection developing between the two of them was obvious. I do advise caution though because the steam level will not be to everyone's taste. I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.

This was one delicious steamy read, the chemistry between Lewis & Ella was off the scale but it was also a tender love story, they talked they debated & most importantly she made him laugh. I loved how they fell in love. I devoured this beautifully written novella in a sitting – I loved it My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Wow what a steamy wonderful story. I was hooked from the first page. This isn’t your ordinary story. Yes, the main characters are a Duke and a Lady, but they don’t know that when they first meet. Lady Ella has stolen away in the Duke of Ansford, Lewis’, hired carriage after his visit to L’Anonyme. He’s in no mood to deal with a beautiful woman waiting for him in the carriage, let alone her offer of needing his help in the area of seduction. What proceeds is a hot and steamy romance between the two of them that can’t go any further than that, or can it?
I’ve only read a couple of this author’s books, but this one will lead me to reading more. It was a delightful story, with lots of hot romance, a villain to deal with and a love affair in the making just in time for the Christmas holiday. You need to add this to your must read books.
Christmas is already in the air with this quick, original and steamy read. Ella is no ordinary lady… that’s why she finds herself outside a pleasure house waiting to speak to one of the patrons about seduction! Lewis is in a foul mood, Christmas is a few weeks away and he hates the holiday. When an anonymous lady ambushes him in his carriage and wants to know everything about seducing a man he is at first annoyed and then intrigued by the mysterious lady. Ella is determined and relentless in her pursuit and Lewis finds himself enthralled and captured by her resilience even more when she discloses the real motivations behind her actions. When it’s time for them to part neither of them will be the same. That’s my first DiPasqua book and surely it won’t be the last.
Teacher-student relationship in all the naughtiest of ways. A mathematician and a duke meet in a hansom cab outside a sex club… Neither wants to share their identity. I was hooked from that opening scene on, and read this in one day because I could barely put it down. She wants revenge, he just wants to avoid the darned holidays. Him teaching her how to seduce another man, and her reactions to each discovery of how it all feels with him – delicious. Being snowed in for a few extra days just heightened the fun. I’m not generally a holiday romance reader, but with very little changed, this story could have happened at any time of years, and I really enjoyed it.
Extremely well written, fast paced read. Full of steam, romance, intrigue, love with lots of twists. Ella is a math genius who let a one night stand steal away her research papers. So to get them back she waits in a carriage belonging to a Duke. Lewis is that said Duke. She wants to teach her how to seduce the thief so that she can get her papers back. Their time together is so hot and what he teaches her is fabulous. Ella and Lewis get their happily ever after and even teach the thief a lesson. Would offer more than 5 stars if it was allowed. would strongly recommend to everyone. I am an ARC and leave this unbiased, honest review.
My very first book of this author and I already love her! I loved the chemistry between the characters, which was over the charts, I loved the steamy scenes (very, very steamy!) and I loved the plot! It was intriguing and definitely a different and gorgeous approach to the “lovemaking lessons” trope. There were some very hilarious moments in this novella and a slight undercurrent of angst that I appreciated quite a lot. And of course a cold hero who’s melted by true love is my favorite hero EVER! A five star read if ever there was one! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Heroine asking hero to teach her art of seductions will always be one of my favourite tropes! I’ve read a handful of them and each is just as delightful as the other, if not more. This book is no exception! It’s only that I wish it were far longer as I love the chemistry and the tension buildup between the two. Love the genuine love that starts seeping out of their soul whenever they have a decent conversation in bed after their lovemaking. I just can’t get enough of these really! Since it’s meant to be a novella, I certainly wish there’d be an epilogue to end the story on a much sweeter note!
I'm Happy to Recommend This One! I love it when a female character bests another who has done her a wrong as is the reason for this story! And this is what Ella and her friends managed to do. This however was only the background story. The main one involves Ella and Lewis and what a delight they are. Their story was such an easy read. It had substance, was hot and really very entertaining. I read an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) supplied by Booksprout and this has been my voluntary review of the story
Tropes: brainy, sunshine spinster/grumpy rake Steam level: 4 (this is a hot one) Published originally in the "Duke in a Box" anthology
This is a short, super steamy, low angst novella. Both MC's are likable and their banter is fun. I actually would have loved if this had been longer, but everything is wrapped up pretty well. Recommend if you're in the mood for some non-dark erotica.
I received this novella from the author, but I previously read it as part of the "Duke in a Box" anthology. This is my voluntary review. Opinions are my own.
Lewis and Ella burn up the pages in this short story. Love that Ella is a mathematician (my specialty in school) and makes no excuses for being smart. She is just lovely. Lewis is a rake of all rakes. The liaison teaches Ella all she needs to know to seduce another man – for what purpose you ask? Well, that is the crux of the story. I read this as part of a previously anthology and re-reading it gave me all of the feels again. Also, found out this is the first in Lila’s new series. YAY!
This is a fun, entertaining, steamy novella. Lewis and Ella are interesting, entertaining, fun, relatable characters. DiPasqua packs quite a bit into the limited number of pages for this novella. The story is packed full with both the romance and the subplot – both of which are done well and enjoyable. These characters and their romance are very sweet and touching. Their romance fits them. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A short Christmas novella with a very sexually experienced duke and a young lady that wants to learn all he knows for revenge. It doesn't start out as seduction, but what she wants to know is really explained better by example. Snowed in at his home from a blizzard, Ella and the duke spend their days and nights together. With trust, humor and hot explanations, they fall in love. Revenge is sweet. Add this one to your Christmas TBR. Explicit sex.🔥 I voluntarily read reviewed a copy of this book gifted by the author.
The Frosty Duke by Lila DiPasqua is a hot story to warm up a chilly night! Ella and Lewis have combustible chemistry. I truly appreciated that DiPasqua wrote a strong and intelligent heroine who was equal to Lewis in every way. The steamy bits were well-written and fit the plot in my opinion. I’m usually not one for hidden identities, but she handled the trope well. The Historical Tidbit was the icing on the cake.
I received an ARC from the author. The opinions expressed above are mine.
I loved this story about Lewis and Ella. It’s steamy and I laughed out loud several times. I love strong, intelligent women and Ella is definitely that! She and Lewis are a really great match.
I’ve read this story before in the Duke in a Box anthology, but it was such a pleasure to read it again and enjoy every word Lila wrote.
“The first man who’d made her feel desire, and desired. Feminine. Accepted. For the first time ever.”
Lewis & Ella I enjoyed this short Christmas novella. My first DiPasqua. Ella is a mathematician that falls for a fellow collegue. A cad that steals her work. Ella wants to get her papers back before he submits and publishes them under his name and she is willing to risk her reputation to get them back but the only thing she loses is her heart. I loved Lewis and Ella's story. It has some of my favorite tropes. It is the perfect Christmas story.
