Named a USA Today Best Bet for Educators, this is a book that encourages grace through the smallest gestures. The inspiration for the kindness movement, Random Acts of Kindness is an antidote for a weary world. Its true stories, thoughtful quotations, and suggestions for generosity inspire readers to live more compassionately in this beautiful new edition.
This little tome contains dozens of acts of kindness in everyday life. Many of these acts are simple kindnesses and some represent grander acts of kindness....but all are accomplished without fanfare and demonstrate love for mankind. These simple acts of kindness and love are important in making the world a better place. It also includes quotes on kindness and love from many famous individuals. An uplifting read!
Uplifting short stories of kind acts done for others, inspiring for this season . Especially mindful considerations included at the end...keeping one's own cup refilled in order to continue the outpouring extended to others.
I unearthed this book and its companion volume, More Random Acts of Kindness, in a box from our storage unit. I sat down to (re)read both volumes last night and found inspirational stories of kindness and quotes to match.
I remember when this book was first published, in the mid-1990s, that there was a spate of people doing surprise kindnesses for one another. I would occasionally go through a toll booth to find that the person in the car ahead of me had paid my fare -- and I would pass along the favor. Somehow, in these difficult times (I would argue that this is when we need it the most), the idea of helping one another has gone out of favor. It's time for more folks to capture that spirit and reach out a hand. Highly recommended.
This is the perfect little book to read if you need something to lift your spirits and give you hope. “Random Acts of Kindness” is filled with different people’s anecdotes of acts of kindness done for them or acts of kindness they did for others. There are also kindness quotes at the bottom of each page, written by famous authors and philosophers. I thought it was so inspiring to read these short stories about kindness because it showed me how kindness has a rippling effect. One nice action out of the blue for someone else can make their day when they really need it. I hope that acts of kindness become less random and more regular, because I think the world needs them more than ever right now.
This is one I read regularly. It's a powerful reminder of how one should live, how simple it is to make life better for others, how lovely the world would be if we all remembered the simple things.
In this day and age of constant posting and bitching online, tabloid news sites (here's looking at you, Fox and NPR), every candy-ass whining about being offended, and everyone more involved with their stupid phones than any human beings, this book is more needed than ever. It'll change how you think, and may change how you behave as well. Brilliant concept, and one of my favorite pieces of non-fiction.
This book was assigned as required reading for a class on kindness I am taking through Advancement Courses. I teach 8th grade and will be bringing more kindness to my classroom and students in an effort to develop them into kinder humans. The book was okay, some of the acts of kindness gave me ideas for acts that my students can perform.
I started reading this book as part of my morning routine and I must say it definitely allows you to refocus your day as to what is most important - us spreading and sharing love amongst one another. A lot of the stories in this book detail how people sometimes go out of their way for others not expecting a thing in return. It has also help me to try to be more intentional on how I show up.
Short, pleasant collection of kind moments between strangers. This book is 30 years old and many of the suggestions simply don't translate well to today's society. I'm sure there are more current books now that have the same message and would be more relatable in current times. But, the concept of spreading good will is always a welcome message.
The book is very uplifting. I enjoyed reading about many kind acts and ideas that you can do on your own to help others. Everyone should read this book. But you also need to take care of yourself so that you can help others.
This book is short, sweet and filled with wonderful quotes and anecdotes about kindness. If you are struggling at all in finding kindness in your life, look no further than this book to point you in the right direction. I found a bounty of wisdom in its pages that I will keep with me going forward.
A very uplifting feel-good book with some relatable content that is a real quick read. The collection of stories will have you wanting to go out and make an immediate difference in the world!
A little gem of a book sharing true stories of people's encounters with random acts of kindness (they were either the givers or the recipients), as well as inspiring quotes about kindness and giving. This short book is super fast to read but full of ideas of what makes a random act of kindness kind and special indeed.
Had great inspiring stories and ideas...I felt it lacked something, but still trying to figure out what. Great concept. I love when people focus on putting more positive things into this world rather than the excitement and danger of some negative influences... Thank u
Everyone needs a simple reminder now and then to do good things for people.... Not because you'll get something in return, but just because you should.
