I've been writing since I was a kid but it took awhile to get published-I had to work at improving my craft! Click Here was the sixth novel I'd written, the first to be accepted for publication. It went on to become a bestselling title for the Scholastic Book Fairs/Clubs, won the Colorado Book Award for Young Adult Literature, and was a 2008 Louisiana Reader’s Choice Nominee. I was excited and nervous to write Access Denied, the sequel to Click Here, because so many readers have written to tell me how much they loved it. But luckily my readers have really liked it - whew. Fact of Life #31 won the Colorado Top Hand Award and the Colorado Book Award for Young Adult Literature. My newest book, ROCK ON, which was so much fun to write. Other stuff about me: I'm a Co-Regional Advisor of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of SCBWI and enjoy giving back in that way. I love french fries and can't stand cheese so if you want to make me dinner, leave that stuff out of it!

Erin Swift is sure that the eighth grade will be a far better experience than her last school year.

In seventh grade - the Year of Humiliating Events (or YOHE as she likes to refer to it) - Erin's private blog became a very public one. Everyone at Molly Brown Middle School (and most of the high school students) read every humiliating detail. This year will be different. After all, if she survived her YOHE, she can survive anything, right?

Erin is surrounded by good friends: Jilly, Rosie, Carla, and Mr. F., the school janitor and family friend. She also has her good friend, Mark, her former crush who is still cute but still just a friend. And, he has the girlfriend to prove it.

This year Erin gets a new locker partner. Reede Harper isn't like any of Erin's other friends. She wears a lot of makeup, seems to know more about people than they know about themselves, and is full of mystery about herself. Oh, and she smokes, which makes her just the kind of girl that Erin would never hang out with. So, why is she so drawn to her?

As if it wasn't hard enough to deal with the social politics of middle school, Erin's mother still treats her like she's a child. She has to stay at home while her friends get to go to concerts and other fun events. And, she's not allowed to date, which makes it tricky since she has started seeing a boy from the ninth grade. There is also the hunky high school Junior that has been hanging out with Erin's older brother. And Mark always seems to be somewhere in the picture. But, they're just friends. Right?

As Erin struggles to gain a little more independence and control over her life, she finds herself struggling to make the right decisions and teetering dangerously close to another YOHE.

The sequel to CLICK HERE (TO FIND OUT HOW I SURVIVED SEVENTH GRADE), author Denise Vega has written a book that is just as enjoyable even if you didn't read the first book. The story will have you laughing, and crying, right along with the characters.

A 13 year old girl named Erin P. Swift is just a regular eighth grader. Her best friends name is Jilly. She has an older brother named Chris. This story is taken in the present day. There are many characters in this story including, Erin Penelope Swift, Jilly, Chris Swift, Mark Sacks, Mr. F, Mrs. F, Blake Thornton, Bus Boy (John), Reede Harper, Jeff Massey, Rosie, Kara, and Serena. This story is generally about an eighth grade girl who goes through stuff like, liking boys, dealing with sticky situations and other things like that. In the beginning of seventh grade Erin really liked this boy named Mark Sacks. She even wrote a “Super Secret” blog about him. Well that “Super Secret” blog didn’t turn out to be so secret. Everyone found out about the blog and she was so embarrassed! She wouldn’t have gotten Mark as her boyfriend anyway because he was dating Kara. Then at the beginning of eighth grade she wanted to start fresh. Mark was still dating Kara and she is still best friends with Jilly. Erin also is like a grandchild with Mr. F (the janitor) and Mrs. F. When Erin finally sees that she has no chance with Mark she starts to move on. Jilly matches her up with a guy named Blake Thornton. Erin really likes him and Blake really likes Erin. After awhile of dating Erin decides that her and Blake aren’t right for each other, so she breaks up with him. Then she sees one of her high school ,brother’s friend and she thinks he looks like such an angel. Jeff Massey. She thinks she might actually have a chance with him. WRONG! Mr. F. ends up in the hospital and Erin is absolutely devastated! She wants to visit him everyday but one day there was a high school party that Erin wanted to go to because the “angel” Jeff Massey was going to be there. Mrs. F. had called to see if Erin wanted to come and see Mr. F. because he wasn’t doing to well. But of course she couldn’t because she was going to that party. Erin didn’t want her parents to know about the party because she knows that they would say no. Well it turns out that the party was a total disaster. Her parents found out and she was grounded! That wasn’t the only bad thing, Mr. F. had died and Erin didn’t even get to say good-bye.

I thought that this book was really good because of the description of every person that they explained. Like we were saying in Language arts that we should “ show not tell” They really showed me each character and I could really picture each and every person. I also really liked how it was a cliff hanger at the end of every page, and every chapter. This book was laid out in a really cool way, it has very short chapters so that it could keep the reader reading ( I love those kind of books.) What I disliked is how I stayed up until 11:00 each night because I COULD NOT STOP READING! I would really recommend this book! I loved it!

This brings back so many memories...I read this a few years ago, and I loved it. Right now, it's still fantastic, but I still want more. Please Vega....

Yeah, anyways. The plot of this book was very real, about growing up and in middle school. Erin is a very real person that I can sort of connect to (love of basketball...no), and her relationship with Mark was so cute!

The sequel to my childhood comfort book that I apparently never read. Much heavier than I expected tbh, but I enjoyed reading more about Erin and her friends.

Hoping to not repeat the Year of Humiliating Events(YOHE) that was Erin P. Swifts 7th grade year she embarks on her 8th grade year with high hopes.

She meets her new locker partner Reede. Reede offers to “make-over” Erin’s looks. Erin can’t deny that she admires Reede for her seeming maturity and makeup savvy but at the same time she worries that Reede’s skills in the computer lab may usurp her own.

Mark is Erin’s best friend. They play basketball together, they tease each other. Erin had a crush on him the year before but now Mark has a girlfriend and so does Erin. Some of her other friends swear that they will turn out to be a Harry Met Sally couple.

Erin can’t seem to talk to her mother anymore. Her mother doesn’t seem to understand her. Erin seems to only be able to talk to her friend Mr. F the school custodian whom she shares many secrets with and gets good advice from.

When her brother brings over a total HOTTIE friend Erin thinks that she is in love. He makes her feel older than she really is. He is 3 years older than her and she is willing to risk friendships and parental disappointment to prove to him how grown up she is.

When tragedy strikes Erin finds out what truly matters in her world.

I really enjoyed this story. Working with Middle Schoolers I totally see all of the boyfriend/girlfriend events going on. Denise Vega really captured the essence of the Middle School community.

I now know why my mom only let me read the first book of this series when I was younger. The content is quite a jump from 7th grade to 8th grade. Miss girl is boy crazy and going after high school boys as an 8th grader and it’s just weird. At one point she and a junior are actively flirting. Like ew!

But her friendships and the relationships with the kids her age are spot on. There’s always going to be a cool party girl, a best friend you fight with, and enemies to friends scenario, friends to romance scenarios, heartbreak, and more. I was sad some of her friends established in the first book were just sort of background characters in this one like Rosie.

It’s also important to note this book is about the relationship with her mother as well and the bond and strain they have. I also wish her older brother was more active in keeping his creepy friends away from his little sister! Like 8th grade and junior is such a huge difference at this time. I was just so icked out.

It's a really good read! I have been dying to find this book since my childhood, and I am so excited to finally have it. I did not realize how much I had grown up until I read this book again, it is still my favorite, but Adult Lenses on a Child book is really funny.

This book was pretty heavy for a middle grade novel. There were a lot of mature themes, especially toward the end. I am very satisfied with this sequel, it was just as strong as the first book.

I very much enjoyed this sequel to Denise Vega's 'Click Here (to find out how i survived seventh grade)'. It was a fast and fun read, keeping me intrigued the entire way through. Erin Swift has finally overcome the YOHE (Year of Humiliating Events), and she is hoping that eighth grade will be different. She has all of her friends, including Jilly, her former best friend who is now back in her life. After their falling out in seventh grade, they found a way to be close again, and their relationship is a good one to watch in terms of character development through the story.

Erin also has a new locker partner/semi-friend named Reede, who is blonde, big-boobed, and on every boy's radar almost as soon as she walks into school. Every boy's radar except Mark Sacks, whom Erin goes through on again, off again feelings for over the course of her eighth grade year in this novel. She does, however, get her first boyfriend, her first break-up, her first over-the-top crush over an older guy, her first high school party, and a bunch of other emotional firsts as the novel goes on.

Still close with Mr. Foslowski, the janitor who befriended her when she started at MBMS (Molly Brown Middle School) in the seventh grade, she finds it hard to deal with life when he isn't always around to help her figure out how to face and embrace life.

This novel really does a fabulous job putting Erin's seventh grade year behind her while keeping remnants of it around so that she can see not only how she has matured over the last year, but how she still has to find ways to be stronger and more focused on what it is she wants. Her heart and her mind are sometimes at odds, but that often makes for the most conflict which keeps the story interesting and entertaining. Enjoy this story! I hope Vega continues Erin's journey into high school.

Access Denied is an exciting novel written by Denise Vega. The story takes place in the main character’s house, lives with her family. The story began
In Erin’s house. A problem arise when Erin was changing too warts her parents. The first thing Erin had to do was trying to discover if she had a crush on mark and if he had a crush on her too. Next, she forgot about mark and fell in love with Blake. Finally, Blake broke her heart, and left her all alone with her new attitude but because, of the relationship she had with Blake she was more confident about herself. In order to change Erin’s attitude back to normal she needed to have something realize what she did wrong, Erin heard that her favorite teacher died and that made her realize that she was so focused on herself that she didn’t even realize what happened around her. Lastly, Erin and Mark got together and, Erin was herself again.

The main character of the novel is shy. She is a nice person.
Erin treats the other characters nicely. Erin grows and changes throughout the story. At the beginning of the story she was too shy and didn’t have that much confidence, but because of what happened between Blake and Erin she totally changed, Erin becomes and act’s like a young woman in the story. From the actions of the main character the reader learns that you don’t have to change yourself to look for another perfect. All of this made the plot of the story understandable because it is about people and the reader could or could just a little relate to the story. The most exciting episode in the book is when she realized that she missed so many things and didn’t realize what was happening because, it is like a bomb !! All the information comes to you right away. However the most disappointing moment in the story is when she was jealous because it was only talking about other things. I think that 7th grade girl students would like this book.

REVIEW

Will Erin and Mark end up together or not? First Erin likes Mark and he doesn’t like her. Then Mark likes and Erin and she doesn’t like him. Lather Rinse Repeat. These two go back-and-forth so many times that it made me dizzy.

Erin is living down all the embarrassing things that happened to her in seventh grade. That story is covered in Click Here: To Find Out How I Survived Seventh Grade. I have not read the first book, but I was able to figure out what was going on just fine. One of the most embarrassing things was that Erin’s blog, and all it’s personal posts, had gone viral in seventh grade. This time around, Erin has her blog set to private and some of the posts are included in the book. They gave me a glimpse of the real Erin.

Aside from the Erin and Mark drama, there is a second plot going on with Erin’s lockermate, Reede. Now, I have to say that Reede is not the kind of girl you want as a friend. She is a rule-breaking trouble-maker and she tries to influence Erin in a bad way.

Access Denied is a good book but the plot was a little too predictable for me. Thank you to Little, Brown and Company for sending this book for me to review.

As nights tuck behind the skin underneath my eyes, I'm glad to be an insomniac at times. With all my spare time, I finished this novel in 6 hours and did not sleep a wink. Even without the case of insomnia, I would continue to attempt to stay up and finish it. With the drama packed beneath the cover of this book, it's hard to even sleep at all. I love unconsciously selecting a novel from young adults category and begin reading. Coincidentally, the novel happened to be a sequel to a previous book. Adolescents would love this novel from the cover to the synopsis on the back (if printed on a paper-back cover). The only downfall on this novel was that the grammar indicated towards the "online chats" and the "website" were a bit of a nuisance to read. I for one am not a fan of uncorrected grammar. I guess for specifically 8th graders and possibly other readers who might type the same way might not have the same difficulties with reading as I did. Maybe, being able to understand the character's perspective better. Other than that, I'm thrill and yet woeful to say that I have finish the novel. 5 STARS. c: Recommend to anyone who might love a little (definite understatement) drama to spice up their imagination and excitement.

erin finds herself in difficult situtations once again at molly brown middle school. but this time they are bigger, messier, and trickier.

the book stays so true to middle school drama and crushes. the whole i-liked-him-but-now-that-he-likes-me-i-like-this-other-guy type of thing. and with people breaking up and feelings sprouting and dieing someone is sure to get hurt.

but i also noticed how Erin's life took a serious turn. when she' faced with high school boys and parties, girls who smoke. and a hottie junior with a mustang, Erin has to decide whether she is going to stick with being the "goody=goody" she's always been or have more fun-and get in more trouble.

i really thought that there was no way the sequel to "click here" could live up to my expectations. not only did it do that, but it was even better! i found myslef nodding and smiling because it felt like someone was telling the story of my middle school experience. i fle t such a connection.

p.s.
didnt anyone else see the harry pottery type feel near the end? with the whole... Mr.F situation?... maybe its just me.

Wow...that's just about my description of this perfect amazing book!! I was a little weary, since it IS a sequel, but it's WAY better than "Click Here". I finished it almost exactly eight hours after I got it, and I wasn't even reading that whole time. I kept telling myself that I'd stop when it was getting really late, but I just couldn't stop reading it! The whole time, I just kept wanting to know more! Here's a brief summary:

Erin P. Swift is going into 8th grade at Molly Brown Middle School (MBMS) and the YOHE (Year of Humiliating events, aka seventh grade) is FINALLY behind her. But now she has other issues to deal with (including a first boyfriend, a first kiss, and a first break-up). Plus, Mark 'Cute Boy' Sacks has been acting strange. What's up with that?

I would definitely recommend this book!! It's AMAZING. The ending was one I was hoping for ever since I started "Click Here" almost two years ago! The author didn't wrap it up as well as she could have, but I still loved it!!! 5 stars!!!

Access denied was an alright book with a very clique plot. It wasn't really anything unique or new. I felt like I've read so many other books with the same plot/story line. The girl likes a boy, the secret gets out, the whole school knows, and the boy doesn't like the girl back. However, half of this book is done in blog form, the main character, Erin Swift is the eighth grade blogger. In her blog she talks about the boys she likes, the drama that happens in school, basically things a normal eighth grader would talk about. This book had a very middle school drama feel to it. The drama isn't as mature as highschool drama but it's still boy related drama. I felt like this book was a little too childish for me even though I felt like it was at my reading level.
I would recommend this book to girls of the 9th grade or below. I feel like a sophmore would think this book is way too childish and the plot line would be too unmature. Although the book didn't reach my usual standards, it was a fun read and a good way to pass time. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is about a girl in high school. Her parents are super demanding and very bossy. Once her mom didn't let her go to a concert even though five other parents were going. Thats it for her. She is sick of all the rules her parents have for her like; No short skirts, No staying out past ten on a weekend, No unsupervised parties, No cell phone until college, and No nothing online (MySpace, Facebook, and no blogs.) To keep Erin from totally losing her mind she starts to keep a blog on the computer, to make her feel better. School was getting a lot harder for Erin. Her friends thought of her as the good girl who never broke the rules.
One night Erin's friend talks her in to going to a college party, but it doesn't go so well. Everone there was old and her and her friend were just freshman. Any way somebody at the party eas there that hate Erin, and her friend. They ended up calling their parents, and they come to pick them up. Lets just say Erin gets in HUGE trouble and is grounded for weeks. To find out what else happens you need to read the book!

I enjoyed this book a lot. it is about a girl who has typical teenage friend troubles but has her own way of solving them. I enjoy social dramas which is why I picked the book. The writing style is very good she os very clear and uses many details to describe what happens in the book. I like the way that she really uses the middle school lifestyle and incorporates it into the book so it is much easier to relate to. She used imagery so the bok was almost like a movie, I was able to picture exactly what was going on when it was happening. I would recommend this book for all teenagers or any on going in to 8th grade they should read the first one too.

Definitely a good book! I didn't read the first book, so I was a little confused at times, but I soon caught on and grew to love it.
I loved the Mark/Erin relationship. Somehow I truly do believe that they'll end up together forever, and go on to get married and have kids and whatnot. I really loved their relationship, because I think sometimes it's just meant to be.
I really didn't know what to make of Reede. It's obvious that she has.........issues. I'm glad that she and Erin made up in the end. I think Reede really helped Erin grow out of her shell and visa versa.
Altogether, a very good book.

Although this book is set during eighth grade, I was transported back to high school and all the drama that I experienced there (didn't have much drama in middle school). I didn't have any problem reading this book without reading the first in the series. I had occasional problems with the IM speak (not as fluent as others). Even though most of the book is light-hearted, Erin does suffer and grows as a person. I started crying when Mr. Foslowski died. The author is very good at bringing readers into the character's life and feel everything.

First of all, I didn't read Click Here so maybe my opinion would be different if I had read the first book. The first half of this book drove me crazy and I almost stopped reading it. The IM language and all of the acronyms were frustrating. The second half of the book got better and contained more of a plot, although many things were predictable. A lot of middle school girls should like this book about friendship and dating, it just didn't do much for me.

Erin P Swift is starting the eighth grade and has a blog... this means that Erin has a LOT to post about. When Erin goes through eighth grade she has her first boyfriend, her first break up, a tough new locker partner, and the same old strict parents who treat her like she is eight instead of an eighth grader. Access Denied is NOT written in all blog form but it does have some parts that have blogs and texting. By the way near the end of this book it gets a little sad but gets better!

I was totally excited I went to the library and saw this book which stood out from the others, and found out it was the SEQUEL TO CLICK HERE! I loved Click Here, and I was so happy:) I wanted Erin to have a guy at the end of Click Here, but I was satisfied when everything worked out in Access Denied. Because of my age group I can connect with Erin in more ways. Great for tweens, teens, and kiddos in or around the eighth grade.

I was right. Couldn't measure up to the first one. I felt that Erin acted like a total brat in this one and then went and tried to blame everything on other people. I thought the developement with Reede could have been a little more but overall I just didn't like it all that much. Mark was as adorable as ever! Loved the ending (that's why it got two stars) But Theres the problem with underage dating.. So there going to STILL be together in 6, 7 years?? Yup, my prob wiht This kind of YA Fiction.

Erin is too kind. She is always want to choose the right thing to do. But she doesn't because it is good being kind. But the right thing to do is sometimes be kind to yourself and do what's right for you. For example:" " I feel bad about Kara," I said switching the subject "She's really upset." This showed that she cared more about Kara's feeling then her feeling with Mark. Erin thinks just because Kara and Mark broke up she can't be happy with him. When Mark broke up with Kara for her.
